Last week, Yaya Bey released her first song “merlot and grigio” for artist-forward label drink sum wtr. What we didn’t know at the time is that it would be our first listen to her just-announced album, Do It Afraid.
“I wrote this album from the most vulnerable parts of me, which contrary to what many people want to believe about me, is not my trauma but my desire to love, to feel joy… to be free,” Bey wrote in a statement.
She continued, “In this life, pain and loss are promised to us; it takes real courage to dance in the face of the inevitable. To savor the now and make it beautiful. I come from a people who are masters at this. Onlookers like to make a spectacle of us. Rob of us of our nuance. But the truth is we are brave, resilient, and joyful. I made this album for us. May we continue to do it afraid.”
Watch the video for immaculately smooth single “dream girl” (in which she sings “I’m like your favorite song”) above. You can also check out the Do It Afraid album cover and tracklist and Bey’s upcoming tour dates below.

James Gunn made it known that he doesn’t work with a-holes, which means that both John Cena and Idris Elba must be pretty good guys. The Suicide Squad castmates‘ newest characters, however, might be a-holes and definitely cannot stand each other in the action-comedy movie Heads Of State. Cena portrays U.S President Will Derringer with Elba as UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke, and they’re not exactly fans of each other but determined not to screw up diplomatic relations between their two nations.
Based upon that information alone, Amazon MGM Studios’Heads Of State might be the movie that we need right now. Add in Priyanka Chopra Jonas as the agent assigned to protect both their butts when they fall into peril and Jack Quaid as some kind of groovy arsenal keeper, and the ingredients for one-liner success appear to be in place. You can watch the high-octane trailer above, and here’s a handy synopsis:
[W]hen they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary-who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces-they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Ultimately allied with the brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world.
Heads Of State also co-stars Paddy Considine, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, and the always fantastic Carla Gugino, and July 2 is the day that the film lands on Prime Video. Just in time for fireworks.
It’s not a stretch to call “APT.” one of the biggest songs from a K-pop artist ever. Rosé and Bruno Mars‘ drinking game hit spent 12 weeks at the top of the Billboard Global 200, fifth most for any song ever, and in the United States, “APT.” has lingered in the Hot 100 for 25 weeks. That makes it “the fourth-longest-running hit in Hot 100 history by any K-pop act,” according to Forbes. (She’s only behind Jimin, BTS, Psy, and Fifty Fifty.)
“APT.” will almost certainly be a highlight of Blackpink’s upcoming tour, but before then, Rosé recently made a surprise appearance at a Coldplay concert in Seoul, South Korea, to perform the song. Chris Martin filled in for Bruno Mars, singing the “it’s whatever, it’s whatever, it’s whatever you like” part.
In an interview with i-D, Rose discussed her reaction to “APT.” becoming such a massive hit. “It’s so random — I knew it would shock people, I knew people would want to dance to it, but I just didn’t know that everyone would jump on it so quickly after the release, because we teased it so last-minute,” she said. “I’ve been very overwhelmed with all the love, and I’m very grateful.”
You can watch Rosé perform “APT.” with Coldplay here.
Charli XCX supported her hit album Brat last year on the Sweat tour, a co-headlining run with Troye Sivan. Those dates wrapped up in October 2024, and not long after that, she launched the Brat tour. All the dates so far have been overseas, but in Austin, Texas last night (April 22), Charli kicked off her US run.
The setlist (via setlist.fm), naturally, is primarily focused on Brat and the remix album Brat And It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat, with 16 of the 22 songs coming from those releases. Also represented are Pop 2, How I’m Feeling Now, Vroom Vroom, the Barbie soundtrack cut “Speed Drive,” and Charli’s Icona Pop collaboration “I Love It.”

Taylor Swift, in case you missed it, is wealthy: Forbes currently has her net worth estimated at $1.6 billion. At 35 years old, this made her the youngest self-made woman billionaire in the world. Now there’s been a shake-up: Swift still has all her 0’s, but she just lost that aforementioned superlative.
The new youngest self-made woman billionaire, as Forbes recently reported, is Lucy Guo. The 30-year-old co-founded the company Scale AI in 2016, when she was just 21 years old. Guo left the company in 2018, but she still owns an estimated 5-percent stake in Scale AI, which is now worth an estimated $1.2 billion.
Meanwhile, Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon recently discussed the origins of his collaborations with Swift, saying, “Aaron [Dessner] was going on Instagram Live and just playing stuff he’s been working on, because I think we just needed to share. And Taylor heard it. Again, all the glory goes to Taylor for hearing, as a songwriter, what music she wants to make, but those songs are Big Red Machine demos at their core. […] To me, it was very much like seeing Taylor enter our whole universe. Of course, there’s no one bigger and we all bowed down to her, you know. But to see her come into that, it was almost like I couldn’t stop blinking.”
Lorde’s long-awaited musical return will not reach the public until Friday (April 25). As a special thank you for their patience, today (April 22) Lorde wanted to treat supporters to a live teaser of her forthcoming single “What Was That.”
Lorde surprised fans with a pop-up event at New York City’s Washington Square Park. Just before it could begin, Lorde claimed the New York Police Department shut the gathering down. Despite the disruption, Lorde managed to power through. In a video shared by Stereogum (viewable here), Lorde made it to the park and previewed her upcoming song, “What Was That.”
The impromptu performance received a rave response from the packed audience. Users online also shared their approval.
Following her guest appearance during Charli XCX’s Coachella 2025 set, Lorde shared an audio message with fans. “I just wanted to say hi because everything is about to change and these are really the last moments where it’s just us, which is crazy [laughs]. But so right, I’m so ready,” she declared. “I didn’t know if I’d ever be able to say that, but I am. I’m so thankful for your patience. I’ve felt your love, I’ve felt you right there. And yeah, this is gonna be crazy. You have no idea [laughs]. OK, I love you so much. I’ll talk to you soon.”
Lorde’s single “What Was That” is out 4/25 via Universal. Find more information here.
Although music lovers still have a ways to go until this year’s induction class is announced, the fan votes have been tallied. According to Stereogum, today (April 22) the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame revealed Phish won the 2025 fan vote.
Phish fans cast a total of 330,000 votes. Behind Bad Company followed Phish with 281,000 votes. In third place was Billy Idol with 260,500 votes. Cyndi Lauper (237,000 votes) and Joe Cocker (234,000) round out the top five artists.
Although the fan vote only counts for a minor part of the overall votes (that power remains with the 1,200 recording artists, music historians, and other industry professionals). Still, Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame fan vote winners have a strong history of being inducted. Notable inductees to win the fan vote include Chicago, Tina Turner, and Kiss. Ironically, in 2021, Jay-Z landed in last place but still managed to gain entry into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame.
View the projected 2025 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame fan vote final count below.

Dasha and her denim riding boots are stomping towards Stagecoach 2025. While attendees are looking forward to performances from the “Didn’t I” singer as well as headliners Zach Bryan, Jelly Roll, and Luke Combs, Dasha has something special lined up.
During a sit-down with People, Dasha revealed her next record is on the way. But instead of releasing snippets online, Dasha will debut her song “Give Me a Second” live at Stagecoach 2025.
When asked about the forthcoming tune, Dasha hinted at its overall vibe. “It’s just super fun, upbeat, and the lyrics are so real,” she said. “I like having a really fun time showing my personality in my lyrics, and this song is the perfect one that sums it up.”
She continued: “It’s not my next single or anything. I really wanted to include it in the set because of how much fun it is to perform. We’re literally opening the show with it.”
Although Dasha says the song is just an appetizer rather a full-on marketed release, fans are excited nonetheless. Dasha also confirmed supporters should expect a two EP from her this year.
Dasha is set to perform on Saturday, April 26 on the T-Mobile Mane Stage. To view the Stagecoach 2025 click here.
