For a while, “Netflix” was almost synonymous with “streaming” and it became the standard for online watching and binging. It was, for a while, the only site out there (and the only place that had new episodes of Degrassi for a few years) but over the years, many other streamers began popping up. Almost too many! And now, Netflix is losing steam. Maybe they should have kept up those little red envelopes after all.
Hulu, Netflix’s cooler but bratty younger cousin with a slight attitude, is on track to beat Netflix, thanks to its combined power with Disney. According to new stats, (reported by Deadline) 35 of the 100 most popular streaming titles in Q3 were on Disney+ and Hulu, compared to just 29 Netflix titles. Max came third with 18, while Amazon clocked in with 11 titles. Maybe they need some more Bosch spinoffs.
But that’s not the only triumph: next year, Hulu/Disney is expected to surpass Netflix’ library with 9,578 combined titles. That’s about a thousand more than Netflix, though those numbers are subject to change as more and more shows disappear from streaming. It’s like a fun game trying to watch your favorite shows! But it isn’t fun.
Disney+ is currently in the process of buying out Comcast’s stake in Hulu and becoming its full owner. For those of you not interested in combining your Only Murder rewatch and your Loki marathon, it should be noted that the two will also exist separately.
It’s not that confusing when you realize that it’s just one of six verticals that Hulu/Disney have whipped up. Soon you’ll have a Hulu tier for every day of the week. Meanwhile, Netflix is still just Netflix.
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert has been enjoying a bit of a break, but the program is back in full force this week. New episodes resume tonight (December 11), so here are the musical guests for this week’s shows.
Olivia Rodrigo — Monday, December 11
Rodrigo has been all over late-night TV in the past, but this week will mark her first time doing Colbert. Her Late Show debut comes after a massive year that saw her serve as Saturday Night Live musical guest this past weekend and release her new album Guts earlier in the year.
Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit — Tuesday, December 12
Isbell, meanwhile, has been on Colbert a handful of times since 2016. He and his 400 Unit released their latest album, Weathervanes, this June.
Also appearing on the episode will be The Color Purple star Taraji P. Henson.
Beyond Monday and Tuesday, no musical guests are currently scheduled to appear on The Late Show this week. On Wednesday the 13th, Colbert’s guests will be DC cinematic universe mainstay Jason Momoa and Leo co-writer and co-director Robert Smigel. Then, on Thursday the 14th, he’ll chat with Barbie director Greta Gerwig and All Of Us Strangers star Andrew Scott. There is no new episode of The Late Show set to air on Friday the 15th.
Meryl Streep just shattered a Golden Globes record previously held by, well, herself. The actress already held the record for the most Golden Globe nominations when she locked down her 30th nom for Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Florence Florence Jenkins in 2013.
With her latest nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role on Television for Only Murders in the Building, Streep is now up to 33 nominations, according to the Golden Globes official website. However, it should be noted that Streep has only won eight times at the Golden Globes, so even though it’s Meryl we’re talking about, a win isn’t always in the bag.
Streep joined the hit Hulu series in Season 3 as Loretta Durkin, an aspiring Broadway actress and a love interest for Martin Short’s Oliver Putnam. During her time on the murder mystery show, Streep belted out a song called “Look For the Light” that racked up accolades for the actress, including from one of the song’s writer Sara Bareilles.
“It’s always nice when you know who you’re writing for because you can sort of tailor something to play to someone’s strengths,” Bareilles said in a press release promoting the song’s digital release. “There was so much tenderness in her vulnerability. She let that speak through her singing.”

Eating at Taco Bell is a truly unique experience. I’m not going to sit here and tell you it’s the greatest Mexican food your money can buy. That would be absurd. I’m also not going to proclaim it as the greatest fast food restaurant. But for what it is… well, it’s the most Taco Bell ever to Taco Bell in the history of Taco Bells.

This, it turns out, is a pretty hard question to answer, even for us — an outlet that has ranked the menu in several different iterations. At a place like McDonald’s, I can break that entire menu into a functional five-item meal, but at Taco Bell, any of what we consider the best dishes (except for one) could be considered a whole meal. So while this list won’t function as that perfect single meal of different menu items, we think you can’t go wrong with any combination of the picks below. Grab any combination of two, or three, or hell, get all five, and tell us we’re wrong!
We’re also going to take this time to plead with Taco Bell to bring back the Beef Mexi-Melt, the greatest discontinued item on the menu. We don’t want to have to keep making our own (even though ours is better). Anyway, here are the five most essential menu items from Taco Bell.

Why It’s Great:
If I had to choose a single dish to represent the entire Taco Bell experience, I’d choose the Crunchwrap Supreme. The dish is a greatest-hits collection of Taco Bell flavors: you’ve got the savory beef, the salty and satisfying nacho cheese sauce, and the crunch of fried corn tortilla, all wrapped in a giant warm grilled tortilla. Oh yeah, and there are some tomatoes and lettuce in there too.
Sure, the veggies seem like throwaway ingredients, but they provide an additional element of texture to this already very textural dish and sort of cleanse the palate from the more intense flavors.
The Bottom Line:
One single bite of a Crunchwrap Supreme should tell you everything you need to know about what makes Taco Bell a favorite for so many people.
Beefy Five-Layer Burrito

Why It’s Great:
Biting into a Beefy Five-Layer Burrito is incredibly satisfying. Each bite strikes a perfect balance between beefy flavors and cheese — it’s savory, delicious, and simple. It’s not the biggest or most substantial burrito, but that works in its favor because it means you can order something else, like a crunch taco!
The full burrito is loaded up with beef, beans, cheese, a layer of nacho cheese sauce smeared across the tortilla, and sour cream. It’s pretty easy to elevate this dish too — ask for it grilled and it’ll ensure all the shredded cheese inside melts and will add a nice crunch to the tortilla.
The Bottom Line:
A cheesy beefy masterpiece.

Why It’s Great:
Considering I think this is the best single taco on the entire Taco Bell menu, it would be crazy not to include the Crunchy Taco on this list. For me, it is the menu item that comes to mind when someone says “do you want to go to Taco Bell?” whether or not I intend to order one. It simply is Taco Bell to me — it is to the brand what fries are to McDonald’s.
I love everything about this taco, it’s simple, consisting of a peppery fried corn tortilla, greasy ground beef, lettuce for texture, and cheese all in perfect proportion. Also, it serves as the perfect canvas for each of Taco Bell’s sauce packets, as well as the hot green and red sauces, which make for fantastic dips.
The Bottom Line:
Taco Bell at its most straightforward and glorious. You can easily order three to five of these and leave completely satisfied.
Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunch

Why It’s Great:
The concept of the Doritos Cheesy Gordita Crunch is similar to the Beefy Five-Layer Burrito but executed way better. Think of this as a mini-Crunchwrap with better cheese in a less overwhelming form factor.
The build consists of a Doritos Nacho Cheese flavored taco shell loaded up with ground beef, a medley of three kinds of cheese including salty mozzarella, nutty Monterey Jack and sharp cheddar, spicy ranch sauce, and lettuce all wrapped in a thick flatbread. Each bite is wonderfully cheesy and beefy with a hint of very mild spice on the backend.
That flatbread wrap helps to make the dish come across as way. more satisfying than a single taco.

A mini/ cheesier Crunchwrap.

Why It’s Great:
If the Crunchwrap Supreme and Crunchy Taco are perfect representations of Taco Bell’s main flavors, the Mexican Pizza is an encapsulation of the brand’s innovative approach. It’s the sort of dish that you’re only going to find at Taco Bell and to this day, remains one of the most unique options.
Think of the Mexican Pizza as less of an actual pizza and more like a giant nacho chip. Between two thin fried tortillas sits a layer of beef and beans. The fried exterior is then topped with a sweet enchilada-like red sauce with a melted blend of cheeses, and diced potatoes.
Each bite is beefy, salty, and earthy with a mild spice on the backend. Unlike most dishes at Taco Bell, the tomatoes make a difference here — providing an occasional burst of fresh tomato flavor.
The Bottom Line:
A giant nacho that provides the perfect ratio of beans, meat, cheese, and sauce in every bite.
In the great words of modern muse Kim Kardashian: Nobody wants to work these days! Sure, we’ve got doctors and teachers, but we need people who are willing to sacrifice themselves for the hardest job out there: hosting the Golden Globes.
Historically, it’s not an easy task. The Globes’ reputation has tanked over the years, and nobody wants to step up to the proverbial plate and tell a few stale jokes in front of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest. It wasn’t always so bad, but it seems like the golden years are behind us, and the award ceremony is scrambling to find a host.
According to CNN, Chris Rock declined to host the upcoming ceremony, which will take place in January. Rock famously has bad luck with award shows, so we don’t blame him for that. But it seems like the people behind the Globes are struggling to find anyone at all. Comedian/actress Ali Wong allegedly declined to host, meanwhile, Will Arnett, Sean Hayes, and Jason Bateman also turned down a hosting offer. Hopefully, Ricky Gervais has kept his promise to stay away from the broadcast. We’ve already been through enough this year.
Considering that the ceremony will be broadcast on CBS, it would make sense if a Paramount+ or CBS star steps into host. Maybe that’s how we can get Yellowstone’s Kevin Costner to make his reluctant return to our screens! Or maybe Matthew McConaughey wants to take over that, too.
In the new Sam Esmail movie, Leave the World Behind, an apocalyptic cyberattack wreaks havoc on the globe causing humanity’s increasing amount of tech-related products to turn on them. In one scene, that includes a flock of self-driving Tesla cars that basically trap Julia Roberts in a deadly game of Frogger.
Because Elon Musk has skin thinner than paper, he saw the clip posted to Twitter and couldn’t resist chiming in. However, the alleged genius completely missed the point of the scene.
“Teslas can charge from solar panels even if the world goes fully Mad Max and there is no more gasoline!” Musk enthusiastically wrote in the replies of the Leave the World Behind clip.

Here’s the thing though: That scene has absolutely nothing to do with Tesla’s battery life or charging capabilities. If anything that information makes them even more deadly in the clip, which is a riff on the dangerous nature of their self-driving capabilities. The feature was already bad enough in real life where the cars have notoriously experienced difficulty detecting children. Throw in a cyberattack and hoo boy.
But, hey, at least they’ll never run out of (killing) power. Thanks, Elon!

Most episodes of “Saturday Night Live” are scheduled so the funnier bits go first and the riskier, oddball sketches appear towards the end, in case they have to be cut for time. But on the February 4 episode featuring host Pedro Pascal (“The Mandalorian,” “The Last of Us”), the final sketch, “Lisa from Temecula,” was probably the most memorable of the night.
That’s high praise because it was a strong episode, with a funny “Last of Us” parody featuring the Super Mario Brothers and a sketch where Pascal played a protective mother.
In “Lisa from Temecula,” Paul, played by Pascal, takes a few friends out for dinner, played by Punkie Johnson, newcomer Molly Kearney and breakout star Bowen Yang. The trouble comes when Johnson’s sister Lisa, played by Ego Nwodim, orders her steak “extra, extra well done.”
The sketch is a play on the notion that it’s a faux pas to order well-done steak, especially in a fancy restaurant. However, Lisa doesn’t care and won’t tolerate “one speck of red” on her steak.
The sketch is one of the rare moments on “SNL” where things are so funny that the cast breaks character. Pascal has difficulty getting through his lines and Yang has to cover his face because he can’t stop laughing. But Nwodim only has one small break in the scene and keeps it together as the sketch’s comedy core.
“Lisa from Temecula” got a lot of attention on social media and Nwodim later thanked the sketch’s writers Alex English, Gary Richardson and Michael Che.

The general sale for both the North American and European/UK legs is scheduled for Friday, December 15, at 9 a.m. local time.
