The Jets Will Start Tim Boyle Over Zach Wilson For Their Black Friday Game Against The Dolphins

For weeks, Jets fans have been pleading with Robert Saleh and the organization to do something at quarterback other than continuing to trot out Zach Wilson, who has continued playing as one of the NFL’s worst quarterbacks in his third season in the league.

Sunday’s loss to the Bills appeared to be the breaking point for the Jets, as they could only muster six points in what became a 32-6 loss to their division rivals. After their first two drives went nowhere in the third quarter, Wilson finally got replaced by Tim Boyle, who didn’t have any more success than Wilson, as he went 7-of-14 passing for 33 yards and an interception. Still, the Jets are trying to do something different and on Monday, word broke that Boyle would be getting his shot as a starter this week when the Jets face the Dolphins on Black Friday in a standalone primetime spot on Amazon.

Having to face a Dolphins team that has been absolutely bludgeoning the bottom-half of the league this season is not exactly a friendly welcome to the starting lineup for Boyle, but it will provide at least an attempt at changing things up for the Jets. The real issue for New York isn’t that they haven’t given the other bad quarterbacks on the roster a chance this season, but that they refused to make a trade to bring in one of the better backups floating around the league. Joshua Dobbs is the obvious example with what he’s provided Minnesota since arriving from Arizona, but Jacoby Brissett and others would’ve give them at least a competent game manager to possibly pair with their stout defense.

Instead, they stood pat at the deadline and now will trot Boyle out as something of a sacrificial lamb to the fan base to prove there isn’t a better QB on the roster, when the issue is that they didn’t bother trying to upgrade that once Rodgers went down.

Snoop Dogg Fans Feel Both Betrayed And Impressed After His Viral ‘Give Up Smoke’ Post Turned Out To Not Be About Weed

Snoop Dogg Solo Stove
Solo Stove

Snoop Dogg quit smoking weed… at least that’s what he had the world believing last week with a viral social media post that read, “After much consideration & conversation with my family, I’ve decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time.” The post had some fooled, while others figured his specific use of the term “give up smoke” indicated this was actually just a lead-in for some sort of smoke-free product marketing campaign.

It turns out that’s just what it was: Today (November 20), Snoop revealed the whole viral situation was just a teaser for an ad, for Solo Stove, a smokeless fire pit company. Now that the dust (eh, smoke) has settled, people are sharing reactions online (as of this post, Snoop is the No. 1 trending topic on X, aka Twitter), and they have so far fallen into a couple different genres.

There are those who can’t believe they were fooled/those reflecting on the people who were fooled. Lil Duval chimed in, tweeting, “Snoop had all yall talking about ‘im about to stop smoking too’”; Rappers like Meek Mill and Coi Leray discussed quitting weed after Snoop’s post.

Then there are those who have to give it up for Snoop and Solo Stove and their uber-successful marketing campaign. Ice T even weighed in, tweeting, For all you MFs that hit me up saying ‘Ice! You heard about Snoop?!! He stopped!’ And I said….’Wait for it.’ Lol. Snoop is too cold. I love it.”

All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

bnm
Getty Image/Derrick Rossignol

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Drake unexpectedly come through with a new drop and André 3000 do the same. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters.

Drake — “Evil Ways” Feat. J. Cole

Quite a week for fans of the duo of Drake and J. Cole! First the rappers came through with a new video for “First Person Shooter,” then they dropped a whole new collab on For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition, the upbeat and self-laudatory “Evil Ways.”

André 3000 — “I swear, I Really Wanted To Make A “Rap” Album But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time”

André 3000, the former Outkast member and one of the most beloved rappers of his era, has finally returned. Perhaps disappointingly to some, though, his new project, New Blue Sun, is completely rap-free and is instead an instrumental, flute-focused project. Once you get over the lack of bars, though, New Blue Sun is an interesting and sonically adventurous listen.

BIBI and Becky G — “Amigos”

Worlds collided last week when K-pop star BIBI and Latin music hero Becky G linked up on “Amigos,” which is stylistically more in Becky’s realm but sees both artists flex their strengths.

Tate McRae — “Exes”

McRae (the one from Saturday Night Live this past weekend) is on top of the world right now. Aside from SNL, she just announced a new album, unveiled a 2024 tour, and dropped “Exes,” a pure-pop new single that sees her moving on from old flames.

Daft Punk — “Lose Yourself To Dance (Drumless Edition)” Feat. Pharrell Williams

Like Daft Punk but can’t stand all that pesky drumming? Good news: The defunct French duo just released a “Drumless Edition” of Random Access Memories, which might sound like an odd thing to do, but it’s a good way to explore classics like “Lose Yourself To Dance” in a new context.

Bleachers — “Alma Mater”

A non-debut self-titled album is a big statement, and that’s just what Jack Antonoff’s Bleachers are doing with their newly announced LP. They sought assistance from Lana Del Rey to usher the album into the world with “Alma Mater,” a mid-tempo, meditative number.

The Smile — “Wall Of Eyes”

Radiohead has been quiet in recent years, but Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood’s side project The Smile has been prolific, with a debut album in 2022 and a second on the way next year. The new LP, Wall Of Eyes, was announced last week, when they also shared the eerie title track.

Sabrina Carpenter — “Cindy Lou Who”

We go back to the same holiday songs every year, but Carpenter has a batch of new ones on her new Fruitcake LP. She invokes the iconic How The Grinch Stole Christmas on “Cindy Lou Who,” a brief, evocative, and emotional ballad.

Tyla and Travis Scott — “Water (Remix)”

South African singer-songwriter Tyla has had a breakthrough year in 2023 thanks to the success of her single “Water.” Now she’s given the track an additional boost by recruiting Travis Scott to contribute to a smooth new remix.

MJ Lenderman — “Hangover Game (Live)”

Wednesday’s MJ Lenderman just dropped a fantastic live album, And The Wind (Live And Loose!), and he told Uproxx of what goes into a good concert LP, “I think it’s energy. A lot of energy goes into it. When I mean ‘energy,’ I’m talking about, ‘Was the audience having fun? Was the band getting along?’ Stuff like that. Because some of my favorite live albums are not necessarily played the best. The band’s not playing their instruments the best, or it’s not in tune. So I think it’s a lot of, ‘Does it sound fun? Do you wish you were there?’ That kind of thing.”

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

ASAP Rocky Was Literally (And Hilariously) At A Loss For Words When Someone Else Made Rihanna Laugh

ASAP Rocky couldn’t stop laughing when playfully jogging away from a TMZ reporter who struggled to keep pace and eventually threw up, as captured in a video posted by TMZ on October 31. Rocky looked like he wanted to throw up when he heard someone else making Rihanna laugh at the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix over the weekend.

On Saturday night, November 18, Fenty Cop posted the now-viral eight-second clip on X (formerly known as Twitter). In it, Rocky begins to answer an off-camera interviewer. Two words in, he abruptly pauses with an alarmed look on his face. A woman’s laugh can be heard off-camera, and we’re presuming it was Rihanna based on how quickly Rocky’s antennas were activated. He looks truly befuddled while his eyes dart around the room. “What the f*ck is that?” he asks with a nervous smile. “What was that?”

The reactions to Rocky’s reaction are equally entertaining.

Rihanna and Rocky were mainstays throughout the weekend’s festivities — delivering plenty of viral content.

At one point, Complex asked Rocky about what he and Rihanna could create if they collaborated together at Puma.

“If me and my lady was to collaborate, what could we team up and just f*cking smash and go crazy on?” Rocky responded. “I think we do a real great job at collaborating and making children. I think that’s our best creation so far. Nothing is better. […] I mean, we had a third designer come and help — a ghost designer named God, you know, and shaped everything, and we had these beautiful angels. So, that’s the best collaboration.”

Rihanna and Rocky welcomed their first child, RZA, in May 2022. Rihanna confirmed her second pregnancy while performing the Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show this February. She gave birth to Riot, their second son, in August.

What Happened Between Diddy And Cassie?

diddy 2022

Last week, Diddy was sued for $30 million by his ex-girlfriend Cassie, who alleged that the music mogul had repeatedly abused her throughout their decade-long relationship. Since then, Diddy and Cassie have settled the lawsuit for an undisclosed amount, leaving fans to wonder just what happened between them. And although it seems unlikely that we’ll ever know now, here is a quick timeline of what happened recently to keep you up to date.

Diddy And Cassie Date: 2007 – 2018

Everything that’s happened recently stems from the couple’s relationship from the late aughts until the late 2010s. Meeting in 2007 soon after the release of her debut single (and biggest hit to date) “Me & U,” Cassie and Diddy were frequent features of gossip magazines throughout their relationship, with one incident involving the police being called to her house during a breakup dispute. They broke up for good in 2018.

Cassie Sued Diddy: November 16, 2023

On Thursday, November 16, Cassie filed suit against Diddy in a Manhattan Federal Court, accusing him of abuse and a 2018 rape, around the time they broke. Cassie said she only filed now because the Adult Survivors Act was about to expire. The New York law allows people who say they were victims of sexual abuse to file civil suits after the statute of limitations has expired. In the lawsuit, Cassie said that Diddy coerced her into hiring male prostitutes so he could watch her have sex with them, beat her routinely, plied her with drugs, and cut her off from friends and family in an effort to control her.

Diddy And Cassie Settle Lawsuit: November 17, 2023

Reports of the NYPD investigating Diddy were quickly debunked but Diddy still settled with Cassie less than 24 hours after the lawsuit was filed. Diddy’s lawyer issued a statement saying, “Mr. Combs’ decision to settle the lawsuit does not in any way undermine his flat-out denial of the claims.” This was in stark contrast to his calling the lawsuit a shakedown just a day before, claiming that Cassie was “seeking a payday” or else she’d write a book about their relationship, which he called “blatant blackmail.”

Cassie, meanwhile, explained the settlement in a separate statement, saying, “I have decided to resolve this matter amicably on terms that I have some level of control. I want to thank my family, fans and lawyers for their unwavering support.”

How Many Episodes Are In ‘Fargo’ Season 5?

Fargo Season 5 Jon Hamm
FX

Fargo Season 5 arrives this week, and with it, comes a new tale of Midwestern crime but with the added bonus of Jon Hamm as a rugged sheriff with a penchant for nipple rings. Oh, and Stranger Things star Joe Keery plays his son “Gator,” so clearly, this season has everything.

With a whopping 10 episodes, Fargo Season 5 will follow Hamm’s Sheriff Roy Tillman as he tracks down Dorothy “Dot” Lyon played by Ted Lasso‘s Juno Temple. Dot and her husband are up to their neck in debt thanks to Dot’s past, which forces them to turn to Dot’s disapproving mother-in-law Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh) who’s coincidentally the CEO of the largest debt collection agency in the country.

Like all things Fargo, absolutely nothing goes as planned, and Hamm’s nipple ring-wearing sheriff and his son Gator find themselves with a full plate as Dot’s world comes crashing into town.

Here’s the official synopsis:

The latest installment of Fargo is set in Minnesota and North Dakota, 2019. After an unexpected series of events lands “Dorothy ‘Dot’ Lyon” (Juno Temple) in hot water with the authorities, this seemingly typical Midwestern housewife is suddenly plunged back into a life she thought she had left behind.

Fargo Season 5 premieres November 21 on FX before streaming the next day on Hulu.

Cade Cunningham Gave A Blunt Assessment Of The Pistons After Their 11th Straight Loss: ‘We’re Bad’

The Detroit Pistons have lost 11 consecutive games after a somewhat promising 2-1 start to the season, most recently getting demolished by the Raptors, 142-113 on Sunday in Toronto.

The loss to the Raptors was, by far, the most lopsided during the losing streak and added to the frustration building in Detroit. For much of their winless streak, the Pistons have been somewhat competitive with six losses by single digits. That allows you to believe you’re on the precipice of shaking free of a skid, but Sunday’s performance in Toronto laid bare how far the Pistons have to go.

After the game, star guard Cade Cunningham offered up his assessment of where the Pistons are, saying bluntly “we’re bad,” and says the team has to be able to address that and be honest in identifying the areas they’re struggling so they can make requisite improvements, via James L. Edwards III of The Athletic.

“We got to be realistic about the situation,” Cade Cunningham said. “It’s hard to just be like, ‘We’re good, we’re good,’ you know what I’m saying? Because we’re bad. We have to address that. We have to address what we’re not good at. Address it with not only our words but on the court, in the huddles.”

It’s good the Pistons have a young leader like Cunningham who is willing to take this kind of honest approach. As Edwards explains, Cunningham and Isaiah Stewart have taken the leadership roles in the Pistons locker room and have kept them together during their losing streak, but are also not afraid to challenge their teammates. Cunningham went on to call the effort level in Toronto “unacceptable” for a young team that should be hungry and scrapping every night. A young team needs that kind of accountability, but they also have to respond to it and we’ll see if the Pistons can find a way to do that sooner than later (getting healthier would, of course, help the cause considerably).

Things won’t get much easier for the Pistons in the immediate as they are on a back-to-back against the Nuggets back in Detroit on Monday night, but at the least we’ll see if they can pick up their intensity and attentiveness with the defending champs in town.

Which ‘Cobra Kai’ Characters Will Receive A Spinoff?

Cobra Kai Season 5
Netflix

Netflix’s Cobra Kai will wrap up with a sixth season in 2024, and from there? Well, there’s a new The Karate Kid movie on the way from Sony, which apparently will be working with an altogether different cast (that’s definitely a choice). Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz previously revealed that he and his co-showrunners (Hayden Schlossberg and Josh Heald) are not involved, but over the years, Hurwitz has indicated that he’s open to more of this franchise. As well, star Ralph Macchio has made it clear that he’s into the idea of expanding the Cobra Kai arm of the Miyagiverse with more movies, and the idea of spinoffs has been tossed around here and there as well.

So, who would receive a spinoff if one or more happen? Thomas Ian Griffith jokingly suggested a Terry Silver romcom while speaking to us, and yes, I would watch that, but it also seems likely that a spinoff could focus on a character’s new dojo. And if the franchise wants to stick with the “underdog rises” spirit, they could go with Jacob Bertrand’s Hawk. I mean, sure, there have been a lot of underdog characters on Cobra Kai, but none have truly come full circle and embodied both villain and good dude quite like Hawk has done. I can also see Netflix wanting to do an offshoot with Robby (Tanner Buchanan) and/or Tori (Peyton List), since they both harbor fanbases.

As for a concrete answer, no one has let that slip yet, but here’s what Heald recently told Collider:

“We will never give actual closure when it comes to anything. We love working in the ‘Cobra Kai’ universe, so there’s always potential to revisit that world. We’re certainly thinking about other ideas within the Miyagi-verse, and it’s only a matter of time before we figure out exactly which direction we’re gonna head. […] We’re really excited about Cobra Kai Season 6. We’re gonna go out with a bang, and it’s gonna be an amazing experience for fans of the franchise.”

Heck, the Miyagi backstory could also work as a movie. The possibilities are truly endless in an ensemble show with so many beloved characters. For now, however, we wait for the “biggest and baddest” season to arrive, so that viewers can binge it all and be mad while waiting for more news. Fun!

Will Taylor Swift Be At The Chiefs Game Against The Eagles?

Taylor Swift Chiefs October 22
Getty Image

The Kansas City Chiefs are hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Monday night, November 20. The Super Bowl LVII rematch will double as a Kelce family affair, as Chiefs All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and his brother, All-Pro Eagles center Jason Kelce, will once again share a football field. Arrowhead was also supposed to be the site of the first-ever meeting between Kelce’s parents and Taylor Swift’s parents, as exclusively reported by Entertainment Tonight on November 15.

However, Swift will no longer be at the Chiefs-Eagles game on Monday night. This might be the rare instance in which someone is bummed to be missing out on scheduled family time during Thanksgiving week.

On Saturday, November 18, Swift was forced to postpone her The Eras Tour concert in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from Saturday to Monday, November 20.

“I’m writing this from my dressing room in the stadium,” Swift wrote and posted to her since-expired Instagram Story. “The decision has been made to postpone tonight’s show due to the extreme temperatures in Rio. The safety and well-being of my fans, fellow performers, and crew has to and always will come first.”

Despite Swift recently acknowledging she is “never beating the sorcery allegations,” she cannot physically be in two places at once, so her rescheduled Rio show will prevent her from supporting Kelce at a game for the fifth time this NFL season. It is unclear whether Donna and Ed Kelce will still meet Andrea and Scott Swift at the game, however.

Kelce and Swift soft-launched their relationship when Swift attended the Chiefs’ 41-10 beatdown of the Chicago Bears on September 24, and we have all lived so many lives since — from ketchup and seemingly ranch to Swift’s “Karma” lyric change and Kelce’s resurfaced tweets.
