‘Napoleon’ Doesn’t Have A Post-Credits Scene But There’s Still A Sweet Moment Worth Sticking Around For

Napoleon Joaquin Phoenix
Sony

Considering Napoleon is a historical epic from Ridley Scott, and not a Marvel movie, the film doesn’t end with a post-credits scene. However, it does present a mystery for anyone who stuck around until the very last minute. Namely, a dedication to “Lulu.”

As for the identity of Lulu, Decider may have deciphered the message at the end of the Joaquin Phoenix film, and it’s a surprisingly sweet moment from Scott who has spent most of the film’s press firing off dismissively hilarious and cranky responses to people calling out Napoleon‘s questionable historical accuracy. (And don’t get started on the French.)

Via Decider:

It appears Lulu is the name of a dog that was owned by Ridley Scott. A 2014 Hollywood Reporter article about industry pets noted that RSA films, the production company founded by Ridley Scott and his brother Tony Scott, allowed employees to bring pets into the office and let them roam free. The article mentioned that Ridley Scott’s dog, named Lulu, would come into the office when Scott was in town.

Unfortunately, the Lulu mystery isn’t entirely solved. Decider notes that there isn’t any more publicly available information about Lulu since the 2014 article. There’s a likelihood that Lulu has passed, but there’s also a chance that Lulu is still alive and kicking and Scott just wanted to shout her out. Perhaps he’ll let everyone know in a pithy response to some critic.

Napoleon is now playing in theaters.

Melissa Barrera Was Fired From ‘Scream 7’ After Expressing Support For Palestine And Criticism Of Israel On Social Media

Scream star Melissa Barrera was fired from the horror franchise due to her social media posts about the Israel-Hamas war. Variety reports that the actress, who played Sam Carpenter in the fifth and sixth films, has frequently expressed support for Palestine (where over 12,000 people have been killed since early October) on Instagram; she was also among hundreds of actors, writers, and performers who signed an open letter to President Joe Biden calling for a ceasefire.

The Los Angeles Times has more:

In the last 20 hours or so, Barrera has shared videos on her Instagram, expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people. Barrera has shared posts urging the public to call their representatives in support of a cease-fire… One post she shared from another Instagram account declares: “At the end of the day, I’d rather be excluded for who I include, than be included for who I exclude.”

In response to Barrera’s firing, Scream VII director Christopher Landon wrote, “This is my statement: 💔 Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.” The post has since been deleted on X.

Variety reports that Spyglass Media Group, the production company behind Scream, “initially declined comment,” but “a spokesperson offered a statement later in the afternoon to clarify that the actor was fired because her posts were seen as antisemitic.” The statement reads, “Spyglass’ stance is unequivocally clear: We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

The seventh film in the Scream series — which is now down two leads after Neve Campbell didn’t get the salary she deserves — does not have a release date.

‘The Witcher’ Creator Doesn’t Sound Too Surprised That Henry Cavill Decided To Leave The Show

The Witcher Season 3 Henry Cavill
Netflix

It’s been a little rough for The Witcher lately. The (former) leading man Henry Cavill announced he was exiting the series last fall, and fans were distraught and a little confused, especially after rumors swirled that Cavill left to be Superman (this turned out to be false). At least we get some more Hemsworth content out of it, though.

Andrzej Sapkowski, author of the book series, recently spoke at Vienna Comic Con where he revealed that Netflix doesn’t really ask for his input while crafting the series. Sapkowski visited the set, saying, “Oh well, the set was tremendous, tremendous, awesome,” Sapkowski gushed, before adding that he doesn’t get to contribute much to the live-action adaptation. “But no, maybe I gave them some ideas, but they never listen to me. They never listen to me. But it’s normal, it’s normal. ‘Who’s this? It’s the writer, it’s nobody.’” Considering his attitude, it is not surprising that Cavill stepped down, as it seems like Netflix wanted all of the creative control.

Cavill famously had similar views about the show straying far from the source material. In a 2021 article, Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich told The Hollywood Reporter that Cavill was always trying to stick to the book. “A lot of the notes he was sending to me were about Geralt’s dialogue — could he, first of all, say more,” Hissrich said. “Everybody came out of season one laughing and loving Geralt’s fuming. But Henry was saying that when you read the books you spend a lot of time in Geralt’s head. So how can we put that on the page?” Unfortunately, they never quite figured it out, so Cavill went on to bigger and better things.

It seems like these frustrations, paired with the hope of returning to Superman, was enough for Cavill to exit the series after season three, when Liam Hemsworth will step in those snazzy hunting boots for season four. He is familiar with those.

Is Machine Gun Kelly Changing His Name?

Machine Gun Kelly made headlines this week after a video taken at GQ‘s Men Of The Year party found him asking the photographers to solely refer to him as “Machine.”

“Instead of Machine Gun, can you just hit me with Machine next time?” he said.

He also posted it to social media with the same caption — no thoughts, just Machine. This raised questions if he was changing his stage name and dropping the “Gun Kelly.” Now, fans have an answer.

Right now, Machine does plan to keep the full Gun Kelly part of his name, according to Entertainment Weekly. The publication points out that it might have started as a bit from comics Chad & JT, who attended one of MGK’s concerts with a giant sign asking him to change his name.

This caught the musician’s attention on stage, who apparently had no idea what they meant. Chad & JT then explained, jokingly, that they felt his name encouraged machine guns.

Since the video of Machine surfaced, the comedic duo also felt that he had taken their advice.

As for fans, they are both getting in on the joke and speculating if this is the start of a new album era for MGK.

“I think it’s pretty sick that he doesn’t want to be associated w machine guns any longer,” one user commented.

Jason And Travis Kelce Love The Swifties For Helping Send Their Song To No. 1 On The iTunes Chart

Last week, Jason and Travis Kelce did something Taylor Swift has achieved a bunch of times in her career: sent a song to No. 1 on the US iTunes chart. On November 16, the Kelce brothers’ “Fairytale Of Philadelphia,” a new take on the Pogues’ “Fairytale Of New York,” occupied the top spot on the download chart. Jason and Travis know that this happened thanks in part to Swift’s enthusiastic fans, and they’re grateful for the support.

On a fresh episode of their New Heights podcast, Jason explained, “We owe a big thanks to one group in particular, besides the 92 percenters [New Heights fans], and that’s the Swifties, ’cause the Swifties came out. I sent out one tweet when it got to 8, and I got like 85 tweets from Swifties across the world saying, ‘Oh, you think 8’s good? We’re taking this to No. 1!’ And they did [laughs]. It’s a powerful group, it’s a powerful group of people.”

Travis added, “Thanks Taylor, appreciate you, and thank you to the Swifties, thank you.”

The song has had success beyond iTunes, too: Yesterday, it was revealed that “Fairytale Of Philadelphia” has made it onto the Billboard charts. Currently, the song is No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart, as well as No. 5 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales chart.

Jimmy Kimmel Thinks Marjorie Taylor Greene Just Came Up With Her ‘Dumbest’ Idea Yet

Marjorie Taylor Greene has said a lot of dumb things, like when she claimed “what happened to Israel could happen to America because our country has been invaded by millions of people from over 160 countries.” And let’s not forget about the “Jewish space lasers.” But Taylor Greene might have made her “dumbest” statement yet this week, according to Jimmy Kimmel.

“Marjorie Taylor Greene, not a bright woman. She says very stupid things on a daily basis. But her new idea might just be her dumbest yet,” the Jimmy Kimmel Live host said during Tuesday’s episode before playing a clip of the Georgia Republican demanding a new committee to look into what happened on January 6th. “Oh, so she wants to make a January 6th committee to investigate the January 6th committee and do January 6th all over again, I guess,” Kimmel cracked. “It’s brilliant.”

Kimmel also poked fun at her new book, MTG, which Donald Trump pretended to love (sorry, MTG, it ain’t going to happen), but everyone else hated. “Did she need to write a book? Couldn’t we have given her some crayons and a Denny’s placemat and got that out of her system?” he said.

No Dreams Are Coming True As Daryl Hall Has Filed A Lawsuit Against Hall & Oates Bandmate John Oates

Currently, there appears to be some tension between Daryl Hall and John Oates — members of Hall & Oates, best known for classics like “You Make My Dreams (Come True),” “Maneater,” and “Rich Girl.” New reports and court filings indicate that at the moment, Hall is suing Oates.

The news was initially reported by Axios Nashville reporter Nate Rau on November 17, who tweeted, “Members of the beloved pop rock duo Hall & Oates are locked in mysterious litigation. Daryl Hall filed a lawsuit yesterday against John Oates in Nashville Chancery Court. At least for now, all of the filings in the litigation are under seal.” He added, “Based on captions for the filings in the chancery clerk’s system, a business trust is at the center of the dispute.”

Philadelphia Magazine later expanded on the report and shared a link to the lawsuit listing on the Nashville chancery court website. The case type is listed as “Contract/Debt,” and on November 20, summonses were issued to John Oates, Aimee Oates, and Richard Flynn, the later two of whom are listed as co-defendants and “Co-Trustee of the John W. Oates TISA Trust.”

It’s not currently clear what the lawsuit is about, and neither Hall nor Oates have shared any sort of public statement about it.

In 2014, the two spoke about their relationship in an interview with The Guardian. Hall noted, “We get along just fine. We weren’t — and aren’t — very much alike: we have different interests. But the differences aren’t important, what’s important is what we share — and that’s music.” Oates said, “Daryl and I are more like brothers than actual friends. We’re very different as people, but we have this incredibly strong musical bond. He is creatively unsatisfied and that drives him forward. He’s very smart, and, in my opinion, has one of the greatest popular voices of all time.”

A Fox News Contributor’s Attempt To Drag Biden By Buying A Super Expensive ‘Woke Turkey’ Backfired Spectacularly

Fox News
Fox News

Thanksgiving prices usually aren’t cheap, and they certainly weren’t last year. But guess what? Inflation has slowed in recent months, and according to the American Farm Bureau Association, a Thanksgiving dinner for 10 is down 4.5% from last year. Turkeys themselves are down 5.6%, with the average price for a 16-pound bird being $27.35. But you know who’s not happy about that? The Fabio-hosters at Fox News, who’ve nevertheless tried to cry Chicken Little despite the sky being more or less fine, at least in this regard. Alas, one contributor’s attempt to own Biden was about as successful as the disastrous turkey drop from the classic Thanksgiving episode of WKRP in Cincinnati.

It all started with Monday’s show, when former GOP representative Jason Chaffetz — known for repeatedly hounding Hillary Clinton with investigations, and for getting mad at Triumph the Insult Comic Dog — tried to claim turkey prices were through the roof, despite them not being so.

“I mean, we went to go buy a turkey today,” Chaffetz railed on a Kayleigh McEnany-hosted episode of Hannity. “It was $90 for a turkey! It’s all a choice by Joe Biden. That is what Bidenomics is!”

Many people, unfortunately, wondered where on earth Chaffetz — a former congressperson with Fox News money — was shopping for turkeys. So, on Tuesday, he did what all self-respecting Republicans when faced with the errors of his ways: He doubled down.

In a Twitter/X post, Chaffetz showed a picture of his turkey. But it wasn’t some regular Joe Butterball turkey. It was a “premium young turkey” from an upscale store. Embroidered on it were the words “thoughtfully raised on sustainable family farms.” It didn’t cost him $90. It cost him $114.02, because it was five bucks a pound and weighed nearly 23 pounds. Doesn’t sound like your average prole bird.

If Chaffetz’s intention was to silence his haters, he failed miserably.

On the upside, that’s probably a very tasty bird — provided Chavettz actually knows how to cook it right, preferably with a dry brining to make the skin extra crispy. Happy Almost Turkey Day, everyone!

Nicki Minaj And Ice Spice Accomplished A Coveted ‘Jeopardy’ Feat, But Still Left One Contestant Stumped

ice spice and nicki 2023
Alex ‘Grizz’ Loucas

Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice have maximized the joint slayage this year. Back in April, the two released a remix of Ice’s “Princess Diana” from her debut EP, Like…?. Then in June, the two released “Barbie World,” their collaboration from the Barbie soundtrack.

“Barbie World” has since earned the ladies nominations for “Best Rap Song” and “Best Song Written For Visual Media” at the 2024 Grammys. Still, despite the song and its artists’ prolific presence, there are some people who still don’t know who they are.

Today (November 21), in an episode of Jeopardy, the song was and one of the rappers was used in a prompt on the show.

“Ice Spice and this singer whose fans are called Barbz are fittingly on the Barbie soundtrack with ‘Barbie World,’” read the prompt.

Of course, any Barb would instantly know that the answer is, in fact, Minaj, however, the contestant didn’t seem to be privy in Barb-speak.

The contestant answered, “Who is Aqua?” only to be corrected and told that the answer was Minaj. Though, the contestant wasn’t too far off. The song “Barbie World” features a prominent sample of Aqua’s hit single “Barbie Girl.”

But perhaps a Jeopardy shout-out is another feat the two rappers can add to their resume.

People share the quirkiest things their pets do and it’s both hilarious and heartwarming

Pets are good for many reasons, from companionship and comfort to security and snuggles. But they can also be highly entertaining members of the family.

One saving grace during the pandemic was getting to spend lots of time with our pets and witnessing all of their silly, quirky antics all day long. How many times have you wished you could hear what was going through your cat or dog‘s brain as they do things that defy logic. The cat who likes to chew on people’s hair while they sleep—why? The dog who spins around in a circle ten times before relieving themselves—why?

The reason animals do what they do may be a mystery, but that doesn’t make it any less enjoyable to hear about their silly habits. We asked our Upworthy audience to share the quirkiest things their pets do, and people delivered big time.

Check out some of the hilarious things people’s pets do, as well as the heartwarming memories of furry friends who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge:

“My dog is obsessed with toilet paper rolls. Whenever there’s an empty one in the trash, she digs it out. Then she carries them around the house or takes them outside and puts them under her ‘tree of recyclables.’ — Michelle C.

puppy watching TV

“Memorizes commercials with dogs in them by their song. If she hears the song start she comes running in from another room to attack the TV.” – Angela S.

“My Border collie hates numbers. We’ve tested it with loads of words and then randomly throw in a number and he goes crazy. He knows his numbers up to 100, I’m not sure where the habit developed from but he hates numbers so much we avoid saying them. 😂” – Holly L.

“My puppy steals bras and socks on laundry day and runs around the house with them.” – Maggie M.

One of my dogs (big lab mix) was scared of the kitchen floor. I had to lay a carpet runner from the carpet to the back door so he could get out. Sometimes he would get stuck in there and freeze.I had to physically slide him across the kitchen to the carpet. I loved him.” – Katie D.

cat lounging on the back of a sofa

“My cat always watches the water go down when I flush the toilet. Literally jumps up on the seat to watch it go down the pipe. 🤷🏼♀️” – Tara L.

“My cat Westley loves spinach, broccoli, cucumber, bell peppers and squash. If I’m preparing any of them he goes berserk begging for a piece. When I give it to him he carries it off under the dining room buffet to eat it. Always finding broccoli florets down there.” – Amy D.

“I just lost my girl Puffin. Every night she’d snuggle in the little crook in my arm like a stuffed animal and sleep there with me all night. She was terrified of plastic bags and would run and hide when we changed the bins. She also loved waiting for me to get out of the bath sitting on the side of the tub waiting as long as it took for me to get out.” – Dallas T.

“Although my baby Jerome is no longer with us, he LOVED the swivel barstools. He would get as far away as possible and make a hard run to them, jump up on them and spin. He got up to about 5 or 6 revolutions.” – Bonnie G.

pug sleeping on a pink stuffied unicorn

“She gets upset if I sneeze and rushes to my side crying as if she thinks I’m either in pain or hurt (cat).” – Patty B.

“My dog thought his collar was his clothes. If we took it off for any reason, he would run and hide until we put it back on. He also would never go outside without a leash. He would stick his nose out of the door and sniff the air, but as soon as his leash was on he was raring to go. Still miss him. Goldens are the best.” – Mike R.

“We lost our little Zoe kitty three week ago 💔 but she LOVED to watch stuff boil on the stove. If I was cooking, she wanted to be picked up so she could watch. 🥰 She also enjoyed her ‘coffee’ every day that my daughter gave her. Zoe’s coffee was a minuscule dollop of Rediwhip and she would sit so perfectly and wait patiently for her coffee. 🥹” – Julie S.

“My dog likes to spill her food all over the floor (knocking it out of her bowl) so she can eat it piece by piece across a larger surface. We like to say she doesn’t like her food to touch.” – Nicole A

cat sitting in a silly position

“Mine hunts worms. He sniffs them out, gently digs them up, rolls on them, pulls them out a little, rolls on them some more and then may or may not eat the smoothed worm.” – Amy S.

“My female mini dachshund sits on her older brother’s (male dachshund’s) head like it’s a little stool.” – Dirk B.

“I would always put our undies at the bottom of the laundry basket because our pug would stop at nothing to dig them out and run thru the house. But, only when we had company. Not to mention he was so short, he’d often trip over them. He was a pervert.” – Twila P.

“When my dog was alive, he did not like to leave his ‘droppings’ in sight. So, he would back his rear up to the nearest bush, go, and then cover what he could with dirt. Also, once, when I was detained too long, and had left him in the house, he squeezed (he was a Keeshond, medium sized dog) thru the cat door, and did his business in the cat sandbox. I didn’t teach him any of these things….” – Judy J.

big-eyed pug in a yellow beanie

“My grand fur baby Scratch would often get up on the piano while my granddaughter was playing it. Now, Scratch plays the piano for treats. Often for short periods but sometimes he plays for several minutes. He does this on his own looking for the treat reward but will also do it on demand when you ask him to play the piano he will. He brings us such joy.” – Kim F.

“We have a plot hound. We keep an old towel by his dish because ever since he was a puppy if he doesn’t feel like eating right away, he takes the towel & covers his food until he is ready to eat.” – Pat B.

“First dog ate all the backs out of all my right shoes. Never ever left shoe. Cat only drank running water. We had to leave a faucet dribbling all the time. Current hound has figured out how to open a clam shell plastic container and eat whatever is in there without breaking the seal.” – Sandy L.

“My cat loves my husband’s dirty socks. He sleeps on them, rolls on them and sometimes he bites them and tries to kill them. He is a little weirdo!” – Leona C.

“One cat crawls under blankets and throw rugs, the other cat stands on top of her and looks like she’s surfing as the below cat wiggles.” – Kathleen B.
