(WARNING: Spoilers for the most recent Power Book IV: Force episode will be found below.)

The Power Universe will take over our TVs for the next few months with a string of shows, and it began with the second season of Power Book IV: Force. That season is now complete, and through its ten episodes, we watched Tommy Egan (played by Joseph Sikora), Diamond, and CBI rise the ranks in Chicago’s drug dealing game to take the position as a top distributor in the city. Now that they are at the top, we’ll have to see if they can hold on to it.

Will There Be A Power Book IV: Force Season 3?

Power Book IV: Force has yet to be renewed for season three, but it may be some time until the renewal becomes official. This is different than the renewal for season two which came halfway into season one. During an interview with Uproxx following the season two finale, Joseph Sikora hinted at what viewers can expect with season three. “I can tell you this: there are going to be twists and turns and appearances from people who you may not be expecting to pop up in season three,” he said. “I’m as excited as you are.”

‘Power Book IV: Force’ season two is now available to stream on STARZ.

‘A.A. For Masturbators’: Bill Maher Can’t Stop Mocking Creepy Christian House Speaker Mike Johnson’s Porn-Monitoring App That He Shares With His Teen Son, For Some Reason

c7690a6a7d7dd558aec9374b86443bf3.jpg

Bill Maher appears just as weirded out (and kind of fascinated) by creepy Christian new GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson as many of us (and Sarah Silverman) are. As Maher noted on his show last week, the anti-anal crusader Johnson is a “combination of an election denier and the preacher from Footloose” who is now third in line to the presidency. And things with Johnson got a lot creepier this week when video surfaced of him boasting about how he and his teen son monitor each others’ porn-watching activities. Good, wholesome North Louisiana father and son fun!

Last night on Real Time, Maher devoted a good bit of his monologue to this recent development.

“(Johnson) has an app…called Covenant Eyes. It’s basically A.A. for masturbators,” an astonished Maher noted. “It’s for people who don’t want to masturbate — God knows why — you get on this app and then you have an accountability partner who monitors if you look at porn, gets a notice…You know who Mike Johnson’s accountability partner is? His 17-year-old son!”

Maher then quipped, “Yeah, my dad just took me fishing.”

He added, “So this 17-year-old kid is just sitting in class and, “Oh, dad’s watching anal again.” This is his life?! I think this is a much better deal for the father than the 17-year-old.”

You can watch the clip below:

In other Mike Johnson news, he’s apparently flying a Christian Nationalist flag outside his new office, his time as Speaker is already descending into chaos, and the White House is preparing for him to fail. So maybe he’ll have more time to not crank his hog with his son very soon.

A mom whose 19-yr-old died by suicide has a vital message for parents about marijuana today

Laura Stack’s son Johnny lost his life to suicide three months ago when he was just 19 years old. Though she says the grief of his death is “still fresh,” Stack took to Facebook to share something that happened three days before Johnny died, hoping it will help other parents whose kids may be at risk.

She wrote:

“On Sunday, November 17, 2019 around 5:30 PM, he came over for dinner. He lived in our condo a couple miles down the street and would often pop in for a home-cooked meal. This evening, he was a bit agitated but lucid. ‘I need to tell you that you were right,’ he told me. ‘Right about what?’ I asked. ‘Right about the marijuana and the drugs. You told me weed and drugs would hurt my brain, and it’s ruined my mind and my life. You were right all along. I’m sorry, and I love you.’ He died by suicide three days later.

Stack explained that Johnny had “dabbed” since he was 15 or 16. “Do you understand the difference between smoking pot (and some edibles) and dabbing high-THC wax, shatter, or butter?” she asked. “Most of my friends look at me blankly when I say these words and say, ‘I’ve never even heard about this.’ If you don’t know what cannabis extracts are, and you have children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces and nephews between the ages of 14 and 24, PLEASE keep reading.”

“I am NOT talking about those of you who are supporters of legal recreational marijuana for adults over 21 years old—it’s your life—do what you want,” Stack clarified. “I know some people who take it successfully for specific medical purposes, so please don’t write comments in my post about my personal experience. I’m specifically talking about illegal usage by children and young adults under 21, whose adolescent brains are still forming. You may be thinking, ‘C’mon, Laura, it’s no big deal – it’s just pot.’ ‘Pot’s legal, so it must be safe.’ Or ‘I did pot when I was a kid, too, and look, it didn’t hurt me.’

Well, have you recently studied TODAY’S pot, and have you personally seen its effects on your children like I have?”

Stack explained why today’s recreational cannabis is so different:

“First, the tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a crystalline compound that is the main active ingredient of cannabis that gives the ‘high,’ is extracted out of the cannabis so that it’s nearly pure. THC is the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis. Then a butane torch is used to heat the crystals (similar to beeswax) or oil in a ‘rig’ (just google it), or a vaping device with a heating element called a dab pen can be used. Forget the ‘grass’ or ‘papers’ that were rolled in the 70s and 80s. The pot we grew up with (10% or less THC content) is HUGELY different than today’s high-concentrate extracts (often 80% THC content or higher).”

She also explained why young people tend to be affected more by these high THC concentrations, and that the earlier they start the more likely it is that they’ll develop a disorder.

“The brain is still developing through a person’s 20s, and psychotic disorders typically develop in the late teenage years. During brain formation, heavy cannabis use has been shown to have a negative effect on the formation of neural pathways. It can also lead to heavier drug use. While the vast majority of marijuana smokers never experience CIP, researchers have found that the earlier and heavier someone starts dabbing, the more likely it is that they will develop a disorder at some point (often years later). We must educate our children when they are young (10-12 years old) and use hyper-vigilance in the early teen years, which we found was much easier before the age of 16, when they could drive. We couldn’t lock him up or monitor him 24/7. Keep talking and keep trying!!

The harmful combination of a still-forming mind, high-potency THC products, and a high frequency of use = Cannabis-Induced Psychosis. Yes, that’s a real diagnosis (or High-THC Abuse – Severe). Repeated CIP incidents can trigger schizophrenia or other mental illness, and even when the cannabis is withdrawn, the psychosis doesn’t go away. This is what happened to my beautiful boy. When he died, the toxicology report showed he had ZERO drugs in his system. He wasn’t depressed, neglected, drugged, or unloved. He was psychotic, paranoid, and delusional by the time he reached 19, and he refused the anti-psychotic drugs that he now needed, because he thought he wasn’t sick (common to schizophrenia).”

It’s so easy to think that marijuana use isn’t that big of a deal, especially since some states have begun legalizing the drug for recreational use and many people see it as “natural.” But the mild, laid-back high many people picture with pot use is not the reality of many of today’s marijuana products or methods. Parents need to be aware of the dangers cannabis-derived drugs pose to their children’s mental health and educate them as early as possible.

Stack included the following links to articles and studies backing up what she’s learned about today’s THC products. These are things we all should read and share, as this knowledge and awareness could literally save someone’s life.

Artist captures how strangers react to her body in public and it’s fascinating

Artist Haley Morris-Cafiero describes herself on her website as “part performer, part artist, part provocateur, part spectator.” Her recent project, titled “Wait Watchers” has elements of all her self-descriptors.

In an email to us, Morris-Cafiero explained that she set up a camera in the street and stood in front of it, doing mundane activities like looking at a map or eating gelato. While she’s standing there she sets off her camera, taking hundreds of photos.

Later, she looks through them and sees what is happening around her. Morris-Cafiero finds that people are often looking at her body, or commenting on it with their gaze or body language, at times even appearing to mock her.

“I then examine the images to see if any of the passersby had a critical or questioning element in their face or body language.”

“I consider my photographs a social experiment and I reverse the gaze back on to the stranger and place the viewer in the position of being a witness to a moment in time. The project is a performative form of street photography,” she writes.

Her work has been exhibited across the U.S. and abroad.

body shaming

She also published her book, The Watchers, which shows her photo collection and includes comments made to her about her body from passerby.

You can see that even people in positions of authority, like this police officer, feel comfortable mocking her just for being out in public.

Though she’s not looking at the people around her, Morris-Cafiero’s photographs capture a split second in time that really crystalizes how people relate to one another on the street and the judgment she receives from strangers.

In galleries, with the words beside them, the photos are even more pointed. She also includes the positive words she receives from people who have experienced discrimination for their size or any other aspect to their body that is consistently bothered by the dominant culture.

Though we all theoretically know that people, women in particular, are discriminated against for their size, seeing it captured in photographs is gut-wrenching:

The project has gone viral as people identify with Morris-Cafiero’s experience, which means a lot of people relate to being stared at and commented on by folks who should mind their own business. Does that include you? You can check out more of her incredible work here.

Gay choir teacher breaks down when his class gives a surprise performance at his wedding

Christopher Landis, a choir director at Hingham Middle School in Massachusetts, didn’t tell his students he was engaged to Joe Michienzie three years ago. According to Inside Edition, whenever they asked who Michienzie was, Christopher would say, “That’s Joe. He’s my friend.”

Landis kept his relationship a secret in front of his students because he wasn’t sure how their parents would react. Sadly, even today, LGBTQ people still have to be discreet about their personal lives in some professions.

This is sad for the teachers who have to stay closeted and also for the LGBTQ students who miss out on having a positive role model.

However, somehow the secret got out and two mothers of Landis’ students, Margit Foley and Joy Foraste, approached Michienzie to see how they could get the students involved in their wedding.

“At the end of the summer, Margit and I heard he was getting married. He’s the best teacher, and he’s got this great energy, and he makes every school function fun. We thought, wouldn’t it be awesome to do something for his wedding?” Foraste said according to The New York Times.

The women emailed the other choir parents to see if their children could perform at their teacher’s wedding rehearsal dinner.

“We hoped we’d get at least 15 kids to do it,” Foraste said. But 50 of the 70 kids in the chorus said they’d be there to support their teacher’s wedding. They secretly rehearsed for four Sundays in a row at a local library so Landis wouldn’t catch a whiff of the plan they hatched.

The doors and signage on Hingham Middle School in Massachusetts.

The kids and their parents kept the secret for four months before the big day and had to get off school and travel 30 miles to the event. Landis had no idea what was about to happen but he felt something was up when people at the dinner started picking up their phones.

Out of nowhere, 50 kids filed into the room, songbooks in hand. After Dona Maher, a colleague of Landis’, banged out the first few notes of the French National Anthem on her keyboard, the kids began to sing the word, “Love.” It was the perfect song for the occasion, “All You Need Is Love” by the Beatles.

Video taken by the bartender at the event shows Landis unable to hold back the tears as his kids sang their hearts out. It was a beautiful moment of acceptance for a teacher who wasn’t sure if his kids and their parents would understand his love for his husband-to-be.

After the performance, Landis turned to the crowd with a huge smile and said, “These are my kids.”

“It was so wonderful for the kids to see him with his family and his close friends, and they saw him as a person, not just their teacher,” Foraste told The Patriot Ledger. “They saw how much it meant to him. He immediately started crying and the kids started crying. It’s something they’ll never forget.”

People are loving Drew Barrymore’s live reaction to her first perimenopause hot flash

It feels safe to say that many, if not most people hail Drew Barrymore as the “Queen of Candid.” She can seemingly talk to absolutely anyone about anything in a way that’s consistently warm and authentic.

That even goes for when she experiences her first hot flash in front of a live television audience, apparently.

While speaking with guests Jennifer Aniston and Adam Sandler on her talk show, Barrymore abruptly appears flustered, fanning herself and removing her jacket.

Without missing a beat, she says, “I am so hot, I think I’m having my first perimenopause hot flashes.”

“Oh, I feel so honored!” Jennifer Aniston quips as she fixes Barrymore’s mic, which is a sweet moment in and of itself.

“I’m so sorry!” Barrymore continues, laughing through it all. “Do you feel this?!” she says, placing Aniston’s hand just below her neck. “Or maybe I’m just excited!”

@drewbarrymore I either had my first perimenopause hot flash or got really exciting! Maybe both? @thedrewbarrymoreshow ♬ original sound – Drew Barrymore

Sandler, then reaching for Barrymore’s palm, assures her, “Yeah you got a hot hand.”

“Well, I’m so glad I have this moment documented!” Barrymore exclaims.

One viewer on TikTok gushed, “I don’t know that I have ever heard a celebrity talk about a hot flash in the moment. Thank you for being so real.”

Another echoed, “Drew, we have a whole generation (X) entering the change. Let’s normalize it. Just wait until you’re soaked with sweat, then cold lol.”

One person commented on the exchange between Aniston and Barrymore, noting how refreshing it was to see two “beautiful, authentic, powerful women my own age to look up to.”

Only a week prior, Barrymore had again been an unofficial spokeswoman for perimenopause when she sat down with Gayle King of “CBS Mornings” to share more of her personal experiences, including having a period “every two weeks.”

“One doctor also just told me this could last, in the worst-case scenario, 10 years. And I was like, ‘I will never make it 10 years like this!’” she told King.

@cbsmornings How did Drew Barrymore know she was in perimenopause? She tells Gayle King and Nikki Battiste one of the main symptoms she experienced. Watch their full conversation tomorrow on #CBSMornings. #drewbarrymore #gayleking #menopause #perimenopause #fertility #health ♬ original sound – CBS Mornings

Considering that every woman who lives past their 40s will probably go through at least some version of this—even earlier, for some—one would think that there should be more conversations about this pivotal life chapter. Maybe then it wouldn’t be so daunting.

Or at the very least, there might be less stigma around it. As Barrymore eloquently put it in her interview, “The way menopause has been branded is, ‘You’re old, you’re done.’ That’s not it.” Instead, she feels that in reality, “more women in their 40s, 50s, and 60s are looking so attractive, feeling so vibrant, living their best lives.”

Imagine that—life getting better as you grow older. What a radical thought.

Guy shares the reason viral gym videos need to end, and it’s so spot on

Gyms are communal spaces where people can come to improve their health, fitness and/or overall well-being.

However, it’s no secret that many gyms have also become a production studio of sorts where influencers can set up a tripod to demonstrate the most cutting-edge squatting technique or where the average Joe can take that obligatory gym selfie to prove that the workout did, in fact, happen.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with either of these activities. However, they have sparked a new kind of behavior in gymgoers where they feign extreme frustration if folks walk from one machine to the next or grab a piece of equipment and, heaven forbid, enter the frame.

Take for instance a video shared to Reddit by u/ASTATINE_628, where we first see several cuts of a young woman at the gym, seemingly perturbed that people are continuously walking through her frame in her video.

The clip then cuts to a guy who breaks down what’s wrong with this scenario in a very clear and concise way.

“This sense of entitlement has gotten out of hand,” he said, noting that “for you to get upset because there’s people simply in your video going about their workout, not bothering you, minding their own business, is ridiculous.”

To act like she owns the gym.
by u/ASTATINE_628 in therewasanattempt

He certainly has a point. Of course, when personal space is actually being infringed upon, like when someone is facing harassment, that’s a different story. But in this case, as the man stated, there is no wrongdoing by simply existing.

The man then summed it all up with a short and sweet reminder about common decency. Or maybe not-so-common, since we’re needing reminders.

“Unless your name is on that gym, your filming is never a priority over other people. They pay the same gym membership that you do. If you can’t film responsibly, if you can’t respect other people in a shared space, you don’t belong filming at all,” he said.

Really, this behavior stems from something larger than modern-day gym culture. We film ourselves a lot these days, and often in public. This has undoubtedly caused a shift in how we view personal boundaries in the outside world, with both positive and negative effects.

On the one hand, it can be fun and self-esteem-boosting to treat your life as one big video diary. On the other hand, we bring strangers unwillingly into our orbit, treating them as punching bags, entertainment, or, in the case of the miffed gymgoers, nuisances. We vainly stop treating other people like fellow humans sharing life on this crazy blue planet. No video seems worth forgetting that.

Even for those who have never set foot into a gym, and never will, this is a poignant reminder to not lose our humanity as our relationship with social media grows. It’s perfectly fine to tap into “main character energy.” Let’s just keep in mind that really, we’re all part of the same story.

What Happened To Mireya In The ‘Power Book IV: Force’ Season 2 Finale?

'Power Book IV: Force' 208 Mireya
STARZ

(WARNING: Spoilers for the most recent Power Book IV: Force episode will be found below.)

Power Book IV: Force came to a close with the release of its tenth and final episode in season two. The finale was an epic one as it showed Tommy Egan (played by Joseph Sikora) evading death on his way to making CBI a top distributor of the Cartel in Chicago. Now, CBI is right beside Miguel’s Insane Princes crew and that will make for a big clash in season three with the initial pieces being laid in the season two finale. One of those involves Mireya, who Miguel discovers is in a relationship with Tommy. Infuriated by this, he calls Tommy from her phone to let him know he won’t be seeing her for a while.

What Happened To Mireya In The Power Book IV: Force Season 2 Finale?

Back in episode seven of season two, Jenard was seated in his car outside of Tommy’s apartment when he saw Mireya walk up to his door. As they embraced and kissed, Jenard took a picture of their intimate moment with the knowledge that he could use it against Tommy. Well, in the season two finale, that moment came. With help from Shanti, Jenard anonymously sent the picture to Miguel.

In response, Miguel calls Tommy from Mireya’s phone and he gets the confirmation of their relationship when Tommy answers the phone affectionately. Miguel inquires about Tommy’s upcoming trip to Barcelona with Mireya while burning the two plane tickets that Tommy gifted her. Miguel promises Tommy that he will “never” see Mireya again, and though Tommy demands to know “where the f*ck” Mireya is, Miguel hangs up the phone with no answer. Just like that, the scene is set for an epic battle in season three.

‘Power Book IV: Force’ season two is now available to stream on STARZ.

‘The Marvels’ Is Completely S**tting The Bed At The Box Office

The Marvels Brie Larson Captain Marvel 2
Marvel

Well, perhaps superhero fatigue is a real thing. Also, the reviews were pretty meh to not good. Perhaps it’s a combination of both, but whatever the reason, the masses are not flocking to the box office to see The Marvels.

Reports the Hollywood Reporter:

Based on Friday earnings of $21.5 million, the Marvel Studios and Disney superhero tentpole is headed for a domestic opening of $47 million to $52 million to rank as the worst start in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The box office stink bomb could mark the nadir of Kevin Feige’s reign — it stands to be the Disney/MCU’s lowest opening weekend box office ever. Interestingly, the Rotten Tomatoes audience score is pretty good, perhaps signifying that the (likely) hardcore Marvel fans who are seeing the movie are actually liking it, which is something our Mike Ryan alluded to in his review — it’d be appealing to hardcore Marvel fans only.

Even though there are some fun scenes with The Marvels trio, I’d be hard-pressed to recommend this to anyone who isn’t an MCU superfan. Again, even *I* was a bit lost with the latest in the Kree and Skrull political relationships — I felt lost by it all and I’ve seen every movie. I bet a pretty straightforward plot involving the main three characters would have gone a long way.

In other news, Netflix’s The Killer dropped yesterday and is very good, as is just about everything from David Fincher.

Lil Yachty Believes Hip-Hop Is In A ‘Terrible State’ And Cites Several Things To Support His Opinion

The 2024 Grammy Awards nomination list continues to stir up fierce debates online. These discussions are incredibly sharp in hip-hop spaces, considering the genre celebrated its 50th anniversary in August. Although Drake is the most nominated in the rap categories with a total of four nods (Best Rap Performance, Best Melodic Rap Performance, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Album), artists and fans alike aren’t pleased with what works are being spotlighted.

Yesterday (November 10), Lil Yachty, who was notably absent from the nominees lists, was asked to share his thoughts on the current state of hip-hop. According to Complex, he was frank during Rolling Stones’ Musicians on Musicians event, saying it is in “a terrible state.”

“Hip-hop is in a terrible place. The state of hip-hop right now is a lot of imitation. It’s a lot of quick, low-quality music being put out. It’s a lot less risk-taking, it’s a lot less originality…People are too safe now. Everyone is so safe. I’d rather take the risk than take the L,” Yachty declared to the Brooklyn crowd.

Lil Yachty greatly respects many rap artists, including his longtime friend/collaborator Drake, J. Cole, and Tyler The Creator. But he has been vocal about how the genre is viewed and the limitation placed on rappers, which pushes artists out to regain their creative freedom. Lil Yachty’s latest psychedelic rock-infused album, Let’s Start Here, was his way of breaking out of that music box.
