‘The Daily Show’ Guest Host Sarah Silverman Says Mike Johnson’s Anti-Porn App Is Not Only Weird But It Sounds Like A Security Threat, Too

When Mike Johnson was named Speaker of the House the other week, no one had any clue who he was, and not only because of his generic name and looks. We know a lot about him now. He holds, shall we say, some wacko extremist views even for today’s wacko extremist. Along with believing early humans had dinosaur pets, there’s also this one: He and his son use a program in which they can monitor each other’s porn habits (or lack thereof). Sounds normal and not creepy! It also sounds like a possible security threat, noted Sarah Silverman.

The comic was back to guest-hosting The Daily Show on Monday, and she couldn’t help but devote significant real estate of her opening to Johnson’s use of Covenant Eyes, which alerts a chosen person whenever you visit a pornographic site. The idea, of course, is to shame that person into never doing it, which sounded weird to Silverman.

“If Mike Johnson doesn’t want to encourage his son to masturbate, why did he name him Jack?” she joked. “You should meet his other kids: Tug and his daughter Fingerblast.”

Silverman questioned the program’s effectiveness with young men. “I’m sorry, there’s no way this app is going to stop people from masturbating, especially 17 year old boys,” she told the crowd. “Seventeen-year-olds don’t need porn. They can jack off to anything. His dad must be like, ‘He really doesn’t look at porn at all, he just spends all his day browsing Ann Taylor Loft.”

She then had some advice for Johnson: “Seriously, don’t use an app to find out if your son is masturbating. Just do it the old-fashioned way: See if his sock shatters like an icicle.”

Silverman then spoke with correspondent Michael Kosta, who argued that having an anti-porn guy as Speaker is perfect.

“Mike Johnson is the kind of guy you want holding the Speaker’s gavel. For one he’s got two free hands, we know that,” Kosta said. “Secondly, do you know how much you can accomplish when you’re not wasting all your time massaging the pig snout? Plus, this gives him that pent-up, near-bursting energy that says, ‘I’m a soft breeze away from exploding all over this carpet.’”

Kosta even suggested that this bizarre news could be a win for the current president, who’s hurting at the polls right now. “He can be the politician who’s into porn,” Kosta said. “He already kind of has the look, you know? He’s got the slicked-back hair He drives a Corvette. He’s always squinting like he just saw something he likes but he doesn’t know why.”

But Silverman brought up a possible security issue. “This website is monitoring everything Mike Johnson looks at. That could include sensitive classified information,” she argued.

“Yeah, but that’s the price we pay for moral rectitude,” Kosta shot back. “Sure, Russia could hack into Covenant eyes and get access to our nuclear codes. But I sleep a little easier at night knowing Mike Johnson isn’t seeing what’s happening to our nation’s stepmoms.”

You can watch Silverman’s Daily Show opening in the video above. The Johnson business begins around the 4:30 mark.

Just before the clip ends, Harlow’s line “I’m vanilla, baby” is played.

Do You Have To Watch ‘Captain Marvel’ Before ‘The Marvels?’

The Marvels Brie Larson Captain Marvel 2
Marvel

This weekend brings The Marvels, the 33rd film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the third in Phase Five. It’s the fourth to feature Brie Larson’s Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, who this time teams up with two fellow heroes: Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau and Imam Vellani’s Kamala Khan, aka Ms. Marvel. As with all MCU titles, you have to have seen — or least read up on — a number of films and shows to grok the plot of The Marvels. Does that include Captain Marvel?

The answer is: Yes, it does. Despite a title referring to three characters, it’s the sequel to Captain Marvel, which in 2019 because the first MCU title centered around a female character. That film introduced the title character to the MCU, showing her backstory as an U.S. Air Force pilot who becomes a member of the elite alien military unit Starforce. She also befriends Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury, who later summons her to help out with the events shown in Avengers: Endgame.

Larson’s Captain Marvel later appeared in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

Captain Marvel isn’t the only thing to watch before buying a ticket to The Marvels. WandaVision is the show that introduced Parris’ Monica Rambeau, who’s actually the daughter of Danvers’ late friend Maria Rambeau. You’ll also have to have seen the show Ms. Marvel, which debuted the titular character. On top of that, the recent Secret Invasion follows Nick Fury, who’s prominently featured in The Marvels and got into some misadventures you need to know about.

Marvel recently revealed that they’re starting a line of movies and shows that aren’t connected to the MCU and therefore don’t require any homework viewing.

Captain Marvel hits theaters on November 10.

Who Produced Dua Lipa’s ‘Houdini’ Single?

Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa’s next musical era is on the horizon. This year, the singer’s focused her efforts on her onscreen career, with an appearance in the blockbuster Barbie, with the spy film Argylle in the pipeline. But she’s still found time for her music. After seeming to tell the public that her major comeback was set for next year, Dua Lipa teased her forthcoming single. Last week, she confirmed its release date: November 9.

So who produced Dia Lipa’s “Houdini” single? According to Pop Crave, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker is behind the upcoming track. On Monday, November 6, the platform shared the claim on its official X (formerly Twitter) page.

The rumor was initially birthed in August, following a deep dive with Kurt Soller for The New York Times’ T Magazine:

“The next record will still be pop, she says, lest her ‘fans have a meltdown.’ She doesn’t want to ‘alienate’ them, although she’s developing a new sound that may be informed less by the house and disco beats beneath songs like ‘Physical’ and ‘Hallucinate’ than by 1970s-era psychedelia. She’s working with a smaller group of songwriting collaborators, supposedly including Kevin Parker of the Australian psych-rock band Tame Impala, a rumor she all but confirms by denying: ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about,’ she says, then looks away and laughs a little. Lipa’s dressed — almost studiously — in pop star-off-duty drag: Ugg slip-ons, baggy white jeans, an old Elton John T-shirt, a few diamond-encrusted hoops in each ear.”

Dad wonders if he was in the wrong for not allowing his tween daughter to wear a pushup bra

Striking the balance between protecting kids and oppressing them is an age-old dilemma for parents. Perhaps this goes double for fathers with daughters, for even the best of intentions to shield their young girls from the darker aspects of adulthood can lean into sexism.

Take this well-meaning dad for example.

In a story posted to Reddit’s “Am I The A**hole?” forum, the father—and police officer—shared that he got the “cold shoulder” from his family after telling his 12-year-old daughter she couldn’t wear a push-up bra.

According to the man’s account, his wife, who “developed fairly young” herself, bought the push-up bra without his knowing. When he found out, he was “furious,” explaining that he had always limited their daughter’s use of tank tops for fear that “some sick person would see her that way.”

Meanwhile, his wife seems to have a completely different stance, having “always been of the mindset that women should not have to conform or hide due to men’s poor behavior.”

AITAH for telling my wife and daughter I do not want her wearing a pushup bra?
byu/Careless_Argument_51 inAITAH

And while the father agrees with this in theory, writing, “I get my daughter wants to feel good in her own body, and looking in a way that makes one personally happy goes with that,” he still felt they should be taking some harsh realities into consideration.

This disagreement eventually led to a fight.

“My wife told me I should not police what our child wears that is what breeds resentment, and I also should not be sexualizing our daughter they are just clothes. I called my wife naive if she thinks a pushup bra and a tank top are just clothes with all the creeps running around. I even showed her our sex offender registry, and this is where she flipped and said I am teaching our daughter to live in fear, while she is trying to teach her to feel empowered by her body and choices,” he wrote.

The dad would later give an update that he offered a compromise to “slowly integrate more adult-looking clothing” but that it was ultimately seen as “an aspect of control” and therefore rejected.

dads, parenting

Eventually he doubled wound on all his points, declaring that “a 12-year-old does not need a pushup bra to feel cute, I am not telling her to be ashamed, but I am telling her sadly we live in a world where women are still viewed as nothing but slabs of meat to some.”

“We can wish all we want, but in common sense, certain actions and attire bring about more attention, and more attention increases one’s likelihood of getting the attention of a person that may harm,” he concluded.

As far as what other people thought, most sided with the mom and daughter, noting that despite his altruistic goal, the father was sending the wrong message.

“Your wife is trying to raise your daughter to love herself and to dress for her own enjoyment,” one person wrote. “Your wife’s approach is more likely to result in your daughter feeling confident and comfortable in her own skin. Your approach is more likely to teach your daughter that she has to hide herself to avoid getting hurt. It will also teach her that if she does get hurt, it’s her fault for not hiding herself.”

Another honed in on the father’s strict tank top rule, saying, “you’re the one sexualizing your daughter, and teaching her to be ashamed because she possesses a body. Please let your wife handle all this because you SUCK at it.”

Still, not everyone thought he was in the wrong.

via GIPHY

One person commented, “You’re worried about her safety. I understand. Mom is trying to make her comfortable in her own skin. No one is trying to hurt her self-esteem. However, 12 is too young for a push up bra. She can get bras that are less geared to kids, however she’s still a kid. She’s only 12. She shouldn’t have to not wear the tank tops she likes, she should be able to wear what she likes, in an age appropriate matter. If you don’t have daughters, you won’t understand. She’s 12. She doesn’t need the pushup bra, but dad you need to stop policing her clothing.”

Another argued that “the whole point of a push up bra is to create fuller boobs and make cleavage. That type of bra is definitely sexualizing the 12 year old. It’s whole point is to make a woman’s boobs more appealing.”

Virtually no aspect of parenting is easy, but navigating tween girls through puberty in a way that actually serves them is particularly challenging.

On the one hand, the sexualization of young girls is an ongoing issue, one that negatively impacts their mental health and self esteem. On the other hand, sexual awareness is something that begins at an early age (as early as infancy, according to the National Center on the Sexual Behaviour of Youth) and young people will continue being curious about their bodies well into puberty, and beyond.

What’s more, teaching young girls that any unconsented sexual attention is due to their choice of clothing is an outdated and misguided form of victim-blaming, as illustrated by the famous “What Were You Wearing” exhibit, which shows the often conservative attire women were wearing when assaulted.

Parents do their best to keep their children safe. And sometimes there’s no easy answer as for how to make that happen, especially if the “safe” route means instilling a sense of shame into young kids. Often the only way to come to more informed decisions is to have difficult conversations, and kudos to the parents willing to have them.

Popular life hack has people putting their toilet paper in the refrigerator

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, people took toilet paper—especially its availability—for granted. Everyone who experienced those hectic days probably has a new appreciation when they roll down the aisle of their local supermarket and see fully stocked shelves of TP.

A new trend shows that people aren’t only appreciating their toilet paper but finding new ways to use it that go beyond its traditional use: keeping toilet paper in their refrigerators. The most common reason is that it is an effective and affordable way to keep them smelling fresh and clean. It seems that TP’s absorbent qualities go far beyond the bathroom.

The new practice has been popularized on TikTok, where most new life hack trends seem to be springing up these days.

In late September, TikTok user @Ezenwanyibackup shared a toilet-paper-in-the-fridge hack, and it received over 1400 views. The hack involves creating a paste out of baking soda and applying it to the top of the roll. “Now, just stick it in your fridge,” the TikTokker said. “This simple hack is going to neutralize all the smell and moisture that messes up your fridge, keeping your food fresh and tasty for way longer.”

@ezenwanyibackup

Just put a roll of toilet paper in your fridge, and you won’t have that problem anymore! #ezenwanyibackup #foryoupage #homemaderemedies #healthy #homemaderecipes #foryou #diy #naturalrecipes #recipe #fypシ゚viral @ezenwanyibackup @ezenwanyibackup @ezenwanyibackup @This Recipe @Queen ezenwanyi1

Smartfoxlifehacks has also helped promote the new trend in kitchen cleanliness with his video, where he shares how he keeps toilet paper in his fridge. He recommends that people change their rolls every 3 to 4 weeks. He claims the “trick” comes from the hotel industry because the toilet paper “absorbs odors.”

@smartfoxlifehacks

Another TikTokker, @Drewfrom63rd1, has a unique use for the toilet paper in his fridge. He chills it and then uses it as an ice pack to keep his food cold. “You can use this as an ice pack,” he says, putting a roll out of his fridge. “It does really work. It lasts about 8 hours.”

@drewfrom63rd1

House Digest explains why toilet paper is so effective at keeping your fridge smelling fresh.

“For obvious reasons, toilet paper is designed to be extremely absorbent,” Brooke Younger writes at House Digest. “However, it doesn’t just absorb liquids on contact; it can also pull them from the surrounding air. If you’ve ever touched your bathroom’s toilet paper roll after a steamy shower, you might notice that it feels a bit damp. Placing a clean toilet paper roll in your fridge will absorb some of the internal humidity and, with it, those stinky particles.”

The site adds that toilet paper can also help keep dark, damp parts of your house, such as a closet or basement, stay fresh, too.

The toilet paper hack is effective, and it’s also a great way to save money. The average roll of TP costs about $1, which is much cheaper than a refrigerator deodorizer that can set you back about $10.

Now, for the sake of all the people who love this hack, let’s hope that word spreads so that no one gets any side-eye for having stacks of TP in their fridge. But we should also hope it doesn’t become so popular that people start hoarding toilet paper again. That wasn’t fun the first time.

Couple buys new house and finds abandoned dog tied to a tree by the old homeowners

Molly, an adorable, affectionate 10-year-old pit bull, found herself tied to a tree after her owners had abandoned her.

According to The Dodo, Molly had “always been a loyal dog, but, unfortunately, her first family couldn’t reciprocate that same love back,” and so when the house was sold, neither Molly nor the family’s cat was chosen to move with them. While the cat was allowed to free roam outside, all Molly could do was sit and wait. Alone.

Luckily, the young couple that bought the house agreed to take the animals in as part of their closing agreement, and as soon as the papers were signed, they rushed over to check in.

In a TikTok video, April Parker, the new homeowner, walks up to Molly, who is visibly crestfallen with teary eyes. But as soon as Parker begins cooing, “Baby girl…you’re gonna get a new home,” the pitty instantly perks up—all smiles and tail wagging.

“We are going to make her life so good,” Parker wrote in the video’s caption. “She will never be left all alone tied to a tree.”

@geaux75 The people that sold our house to us left behind their 10yr old dog they had since it was a puppy. I was so stressed we wouldnt get the house and something bad would happeb to her. We are going to maje her life so good. She will never be left all alone tied to a tree. 😭😢@roodytoots ♬ Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God) [2018 Remaster] – Kate Bush

The video has been seen upwards of 4 million times. Countless people commented on how enraging it was to see a dog treated so carelessly.

“I’ve had my dog since she was 7 weeks old. She just turned 10 a few days ago. I literally cannot imagine doing this,” one person wrote.”

Another added: “The tears in her eyes…she doesn’t understand why they could just leave her, it breaks my heart. People like that shouldn’t be allowed to be pet owners.”

Subsequent videos show Parker freeing Molly from her leash and introducing the sweet pup to her husband, with whom she was instantly smitten. It’s clear that this doggo was both relieved and elated to be taken in by her new family.

Since being rescued, Molly has accompanied her new mom and dad everywhere.

@geaux75 Replying to @ohitscourtney ♬ Lucky Girl – Carlina

“She’s sticking to our side,” Parker wrote. “She won’t stop following us around. It’s so sweet.”

Parker has created an entire TikTok channel documenting her newfound pet’s journey, aptly named “Molly’s New Life,” showing Molly enjoying warm baths, plenty of treats, cuddles…all the finer things in life.

But what Molly seems to enjoy most of all is car rides:

@geaux75 Taking Molly to get a treat! Stay tuned!! #mollysnewlife #goodgollymissmolly ♬ original sound – Mollysnewlife 🐾🐕💗

And in case you’re wondering, the kitty is doing well, too, though it still prefers to stay outdoors.

Molly also has two indoor cat siblings who instantly welcomed her into the family. The video below shows one of them, Joofus, comforting a trembling Molly with kisses during a thunderstorm.

@geaux75 We had a big storm this morning and Molly was having a hard time. Joofus got on the bed and started comforting her. It was the sweetest thing. They got snuggled up and Molly went to sleep. Animals are amazing. #mollysnewlife #petsarefamily ♬ I Won’t Let Go – Rascal Flatts

It seems that Molly has gotten the safe, loving home she’s deserved all along.

We know that animal abandonment is fairly common. According to The Zebra, almost 4 million dogs are either given up to shelters or abandoned each year. And still, it’s really hard to fathom how humans can treat such innocent creatures with such blatant disregard when they provide so much pure joy.

Thankfully, there are folks out there like the Parkers who know that taking care of animals like Molly is one of life’s most precious offerings.

Stay up-to-date with the rest of Molly’s journey by following her on TikTok.

Career coach’s ‘Dinner Table Test’ is a simple way to determine if you need a new job

When we do the same job every day, sometimes it can be hard to put things into perspective. We can become accustomed to high-stress levels or too easily accepting of a day-to-day grind that isn’t very fulfilling.

Career coach Madeline Mann has shared a simple test on TikTok that helps people understand whether they are in the right job or should start looking for greener pastures. She calls it the “Dinner Table Test.”

Mann is the creator of Self-Made Millennial whose coaching program has helped thousands of people land roles at major companies such as Netflix, Google, Goldman Sachs, Deloitte, NBC Universal, Amazon and more.

She shared the test in a video that has over 9,000 views.

Here’s a test to know if it’s time to change jobs. It’s called the Dinner Table Test, did your job pass?

@selfmademillennial

Here’s a test to know if it’s time to change jobs. It’s called the Dinner Table Test, did your job pass? Make sure to follow for more career tips! #jobsearch #careercoach #careeradvice #business #jobmarket #jobtips #businesstips

“When you sit around the dinner table with your loved ones or hypothetically imagine yourself doing so, and your loved ones ask you how your day was at work, for the majority of those meals, would you be effusive about your day?” Mann asked. “Or, would you typically say something negative?”

Note that she says the “majority” of those meals. Because everyone is entitled to have the occasional bad day at work. However, if every day is a bad day, then you’ve definitely failed the test.

If most of the time you are excited to share the highlights of your day, then you’ve passed the test. That could mean sharing why you enjoyed spending time with your time with coworkers, the joy that comes with working on an engaging product, or feeling satisfied that the work you did was valued or helped others.

But if the first things that crop up are the clients who give you headaches or the boss who keeps piling more work on your desk than you can handle—it’s time to think about getting a new gig. “If the majority of things you say about your job around the dinner table are negative, it’s time to revise your resume and find a new job,” Mann explained.

Mann’s test is sure to resonate with younger workers, MIllennials and Gen Zers, who seem to have a different philosophy towards work than older generations. Younger workers place a high priority on having a healthy life-work balance and want jobs that are more than just a paycheck.

They also can develop an unrealistic idea of what to expect from work after watching other people’s social media feeds where all they share are the positive aspects of their jobs.

Younger generations are also unafraid to look for new opportunities. They know more than anyone that the job market is turbulent and there’s nothing wrong with being on a constant job search.

“These generations are used to economic turmoil and the roller coaster conditions of the labor market,” Andrew Seaman, managing editor for jobs and career development at LinkedIn, told CNBC. “A lot of younger workers understand that their jobs aren’t secure, and they might have to find a new one tomorrow — that kind of attitude can breed confidence in a person, because they’re prepared for the worst outcome.”

Arnold Schwarzenegger Fed A Donkey During His ManningCast Appearance

arnold schwarzenegger donkey manningcast
ESPN

Arnold Schwarzenegger is the latest famous person to spend some time during a Monday Night Football broadcast chilling out with Peyton and Eli Manning. Schwarzenegger joined the two for their ManningCast broadcast of the matchup between the Los Angeles Chargers and the New York Jets, presumably because he is a well-documented person who rooted for the Chargers once.

Anyway, because he joined the two, Schwarzenegger got the chance to discuss stuff, and also things. And at one point, Schwarzenegger was joined by a special guest — no, not a person, it was instead his donkey, Lulu, who you may remember from the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Look at how happy Arnold is to give Lulu a treat! And watch Peyton’s face, because while Eli tries to talk through this like it’s a normal thing — he even makes a joke about how the donkey and Peyton look the same while they’re eating before sending them to break — the future Hall of Fame inductee sat there with a stunned silence and look of shock on his face. I hope Lulu enjoys getting a little something to eat, and then gets to head over to the couch and enjoy a good football game.

Kayleigh McEnany Is No Fan Of The Unflattering Trump Courtroom Sketches: A ‘Travesty’ That ‘Looks Nothing Like’ Him

Kayleigh McEnany
Fox News

On Monday, Donald Trump took the stand in his New York fraud case. It did not go well. (Although he thought it did.) On top of enraging the judge and almost getting thrown out, the former president was also at the mercy of another courtroom fixture: the sketch artist. The drawings from the trial — news cameras were not allowed in the room — were, to put it mildly, unflattering. Among their critics were one of his former employees-turned-enemies.

Per Mediaite, on Monday’s episode of The Five, Kayleigh McEnany, Trump’s fourth and final press secretary, put aside her beef with her former employer to rail against the treatment he’s received.

“Keep doing what he’s doing,” she said after being asked if she had any advice for Trump. “Look, I would advise them to ask for a better sketch artist because that does not look like my former boss there.”

McEnany also railed against New York Attorney General Letitia James for calling Trump a “conman” and “carnival barker,” saying, ““This is a travesty of justice.” She added, “And that sketch is a travesty too. It looks nothing like Trump.”

Here’s the sketch that left McEnany steamed.

Honestly it’s not even the worst of the Trump sketches. Here’s some more.

Trump is surely unhappy with the sketches, just as he was surely unhappy with previous ones, which didn’t make him look so hot either. He’s not the only member of his family peeved at their courtroom sketches: His eldest son, Don Jr., told the sketch artist to make him look “sexy,” and he was nonplussed when he got one that made him look, in his words, like “Kermit the Fricken Frog.”
