‘Rap Sh!t’: All The Funny, Wholesome, Good, And Bad Sh!t From Season 2, Episode 1

'Rap Shit' 201 Aida Osman as Shawna
MAX

(WARNING: Spoilers for this week’s Rap Sh!t episode will be found below.)

Weekly episodes of Issa Rae’s ‘Rap Sh!t’ are filled with funny sh!t, wholesome sh!t, good sh!t, and some bad sh!t — all in just 30 minutes. After each episode, we’ll recap the episode and highlight each of these moments for you which you can check out below.

Rap Sh!t is back for season two and we’re reconnecting with the girls ahead of their first-ever tour. In episode one, Shawna and Mia are days away from hitting the road as an opening act for Lord AK, but there are a few loose ends they need to tie up first.

Shawna is a person of interest in a fraud investigation that’s connected to the hotel she worked at (remember her “flee” from the officers in the season one finale?). On the flip side, Mia has to make sure someone can watch her daughter Melissa when she’s on tour, and while she initially thought it’d be her friend, she’s left to ask Lamont to watch Melissa for a couple of weeks after her friend is unable to commit to the full month.

The episode also gave a new glimpse into the relationships in Shawna and Mia’s lives. We see that Shawna’s family resents her over her rap career, something that gets worse when she informs them of the fraud investigation. There is also the possibility that there’s something in the air with Shawna and Francois, but that’s unlikely as Shawna and Maurice are still going strong. On the flip side, Mia and Lamont get back on good terms, but it’s strictly platonic for the time being. Elsewhere, tensions are still high between Mia and her mother following her mother’s interaction with Melissa in season one.

Back to the main point of this week’s episode: tour! Shawna & Mia’s excitement for tour is thwarted a bit when they learn that they can only perform one song in their opening slot for Lord AK and it can’t be “Seduce & Scheme,” their biggest song. They’re also told that it’s unlikely that they’ll be paid for the tour. Nonetheless, Shawna & Mia, against Duke’s advice, decide to join the tour in what could be the biggest moment of their career thus far.

Wholesome Sh!t

Lamont

'Rap Shit' 201 Mia Lamont
MAX

Lamont and Mia have always had a rocky relationship, even after the birth of Melissa. Despite this, the two seemed to get things together to close season one. Unfortunately, as Mia’s own rap career started to elevate, it seemed to be too late too late for Lamont in the romance department. She would eventually cut things off with Lamont in favor of a potential new romance with a rapper named Cash to close season one.

Now, in the first episode of season two, it seems like things between Cash and Mia didn’t pan out well. That hasn’t stopped Lamont from initially having ill feelings towards Mia after their breakup, but he also hasn’t let it interrupt the relationship he has with Melissa. In the season two opener, we see multiple instances of Lamont stepping up and doing things out of love for Melissa and Mia. He’s there to watch her for the two weeks that Mia needs while she’s on tour. Later on, he gives Mia a going-away gift for her tour and even when she tries to make a romantic move on him, Lamont turns it down while promising to still be by her side in her time of need. Altogether, Lamont’s growth is clear and it’s a wholesome thing to see.

Funny Sh!t

Shawna, Mia & Reina

'Rap Shit' 201 Mia Reina Shawna
MAX

This week’s episode kicks off with Shawna and Mia meeting up with Reina as well as Francois and Duke to shoot the video for the “Tongue” remix. Shawna, Mia, and Reina are in a pink-lit kitchen with a bunch of baking utensils and they’re tasked with being sexy while making use of the baking items. Mia and Reina have no issue with the task, but Shawna can’t seem to get the hang of it. Instead, what we get are awkward moments of Shawna struggling to seductively stir a pot and “drop it low.” Maybe not good for the video, but it’s funny enough for us viewers.

Good Sh!t

Shawna & Mia

'Rap Shit' 201 Shawna & Mia
MAX

It’s time for tour! Shawna & Mia are just days away from hitting the road for their first-ever tour as a supporting act for Lord AK. The duo hit a bit of an obstacle when Francois informed them that not only would they only be able to perform one song during their opening slot, there was also no guarantee that they would be paid for their performances. It was frustrating news for Shawna & Mia, and though Duke advised that they attempt to force Francois’ hand to give them more, Shawna & Mia decided against it as they viewed this tour as another growing pain on their path toward stardom. So just like that, Shawna & Mia signed on to the tour to make their music dreams come true.

Bad Sh!t

Shawna & Maurice

'Rap Shit' 107 Maurice & Shawna
MAX

If you remember at the end of the season one finale, it appeared that Shawna was apprehended by police officers. With season two, we know that she was not arrested, but just questioned by authorities through an ongoing fraud investigation that’s connected to the hotel where Shawna and Maurice worked. As we know, Shawna and Maurice had an operation that involved using the credit card information of people staying at the hotel to make purchases for themselves and others. It appears that the law has caught up with them, but Shawna promises Maurice that she did give any information about him or their operation to the police.

Despite this, Stanley, Maurice’s friend who was in on the operation, isn’t so convinced. The episode concludes with Stanley informing Maurice of his meeting with the police that’s set for the next morning. Stanley warns Maurice that he will not hesitate to throw Shawna under the bus if he has to. Though he tries to hide it, Maurice is worried and it doesn’t seem like things are looking too good for him and Shawna.

New episodes of ‘Rap Sh!t’ are available on Max on Thursday at 3am EST/ 12 pm PST.

Sarah Silverman Gleefully Celebrated Tuesday’s Stunning Abortion Rights Wins On The ‘Daily Show’

In case you have not heard, Democrats and abortion rights were the big winners in Tuesday’s elections, which made some Fox News people really sad. Voters in Ohio essentially set the right to have an abortion in stone, the latest in a series of stinging rebukes from voters across America, including conservative-leaning states.

“This should be a major wake-up call on the abortion issue for us,” GOP consultant Stephen Lawson told NBC News. “The only way to expose the Democrats’ support for late-term abortion is for us to articulate a more empathetic, moderate approach on the issue…Until we do that, we will keep seeing the same result.”

Not surprisingly, comic Sarah Silverman — who when we last checked in on her was just as weirded out by creepy new GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson as the rest of us — opened the Daily Show with some jokes about the stunning defeats that the right-wing suffered on Tuesday night.

“Democrats were the big winners last night, which means all those human sacrifices were worth it,” Silverman quipped. “Shout out to my fellow Illuminati members, we did it…After the results rolled in, I got an email from Nancy Pelosi that wasn’t even asking for money. It just said, ‘Sarah, I am so wet right now!”

You can watch the segment above.

Frank Ocean Previewed New Music For The First Time In Almost Two Years On His Instagram Story

frank ocean

Frank Ocean caught a lot of heat — heat that Justin Bieber did not feel was justified — for his abbreviated headlining set at Coachella in April due to “a serious ankle injury after being involved in a bike accident,” which caused Ocean to pull out of the second weekend and reportedly cost Coachella millions of dollars. But there was a silver lining: Ocean casually threw out that he might release a new album soon-ish. (Ocean’s last album was 2016’s Blonde.) On Wednesday night, November 9, he added fuel to that fire on his Instagram Story.

In true Frank Ocean fashion, the Instagram Story is vague. It shows a super close-up screenshot that is not distinguishable, but make sure the volume is up because it would appear Ocean just teased unreleased music for the first time since December 2021 (as chronicled by Pitchfork), when he played a nine-minute untitled track on his Apple Music Blonded Radio channel, which returned again in July 2022.

The new clip on Ocean’s Instagram Story falls squarely within his signature sonic palette that might best be described as “lazy river vibes” and anecdotal lyricism. He sings about “assumptions” and “educated guesses,” boundaries as obstacles, and wanting to “see all your sides / And your heart’s been tangled in barbed wires / You can hand that to me / I can handle it.”

Frank, please take your own advice. You can hand new music to us. We can handle it.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Got An Incredibly Weak Ejection For Taunting After Dunking On Isaiah Stewart

giannis antetokounmpo isaiah stewart
Twitter

The Milwaukee Bucks have not gotten off to the start many expected when they traded for Damian Lillard, as they’ve looked fairly pedestrian on offense despite pairing Dame with Giannis Antetokounmpo and have been a disaster at times on defense. Despite that, they’ve still managed to go 4-2 in large part because Dame and Giannis are good enough to overcome overall struggles.

On Wednesday night, the Bucks played host to the Detroit Pistons and were cruising along with what looked like it would be one of their more comfortable wins of the young season, right up until the 9 minute mark of the third quarter. That was when Giannis, who already picked up a T earlier in the game, went coast-to-coast and threw down a dunk over Isaiah Stewart, giving Beef Stew a little bit of the business before turning and hitting the “too small” gesture as he jogged back up the court. That somehow earned him his second technical, to Giannis and the Bucks dismay, and he got tossed.

This is a particularly weak taunting technical out of context, as we see guys do things like this pretty regularly and Giannis certainly doesn’t seem to cross any lines. Beyond that, when you consider this is a superstar already with one technical, there’s no way you can give him his second for something this soft. That’s the guy everyone in the building paid to come see and to eject him, he needs to do something particularly egregious. Quickly yelling in someone’s face and then doing the “too small” gesture doesn’t fall into that category, and this just shouldn’t happen.

While most thought it was a dreadful ejection he Pistons took advantage of the situation, going on an extended 51-28 run to turn a 13-point deficit into a 10-point lead in the mid-fourth quarter (the Bucks would pull back late to win thanks to Dame’s brilliance on offense), as Giannis getting tossed took one of the two most impactful defenders off of an already shaky Bucks defense.

Nikki Haley Straight Up Called Vivek Ramaswamy ‘Scum’ During A GOP Presidential Debate After The Swarmy Pharma Bro Criticized Her Daughter For Using TikTok

Nikki Haley Vivek Ramaswamy Scum
NBC News

Oh hey did you know that there’s another GOP debate taking place tonight? (Sans Donald Trump, of course.) Well, there is! One that’s being hosted by NBC News and not Newsmax or WackyPillowGuy.com or something. And we have fireworks already, it seems, as former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley — who’s been enjoying a bump in the polls of late — broke out the knives for super-annoying-guy-at-the-dinner-party/ex-shady pharma bro Vivek Ramaswamy.

Reports The Guardian:

When it came the entrepreneur’s turn to talk about his policy on TikTok, Ramaswamy referred to Haley and said, “In the last debate, she made fun of me for actually joining TikTok while her own daughter was actually using the app for a long time, so you might want to take care of your family first.”

Haley shot back. “Leave my daughter out of your voice,” she said. And as Ramaswamy went on, she dismissed him, saying “you are just scum.”

You can watch the clip of the stunning moment below:

Hoo boy. Imagine Haley’s daughter, Rena, somewhere out there watching the debate and suddenly the swarmy pharma bro in the race is dragging you to try to take your mom down a peg or two. We say she and Eminem join forces to perform an anti-Vivek diss track.

How Much Are Bonnaroo Tickets?

2018 Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival Stage
Getty Image

The 2024 Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival is slowly taking shape. On Wednesday, November 8, the festival’s organizers posted an update on how much tickets will cost to attend the event scheduled for June 13 to June 16, 2024, back in Manchester, Tennessee.

The full explanation for an increase in Bonnaroo ticket prices can be read below:

“Bonnaroo is incredibly important to each and every one of us who works to make it happen each year, and we know how special this experience is to you. We are proud of this community that we have built together. In the spirit of the Roo community and communication, we wanted to give you a heads up as we prepare for the annual presale.

Ticket prices are going to look different this year, and here’s why:

When you purchase your presale tickets, you’ll see a new price that includes all fees upfront — the only additions at checkout will be your chosen shipping option and your locally applicable sales tax.

For the first time in more than a decade, we’re also making a notable base price increase. This increase will still be far less than inflation over that time. The cost of producing this magical world has increased and our goal is to be as transparent with you as possible. To continue to deliver the quality experience you have to come to love and appreciate, prices need to go up just slightly.

The Farm is truly the most magical place on Earth and 2024 is going to be an incredible year. We can’t wait to see you next summer!”

Bonnaroo has yet to disclose how much 2024 tickets will be, but for reference, tickets to the 2023 festival ranged from $299 for four-day general admission to $1,250 for a one-day platinum (as relayed by Consequence). For now, the official Bonnaroo website prompts potential attendees to sign up to receive text or email updates “about the presale, lineup, tickets, and more for 2024.” There is also an option to book a hotel.

What Time Does Dua Lipa’s ‘Houdini’ Come Out?

Dua Lipa November 2023
Getty Image

The COVID-19 pandemic had only just begun when Dua Lipa dropped Future Nostalgia, her chart-topping and Grammy-winning sophomore album, in March 2020. It goes without saying that we’ve all been through a lot since then. It also goes without saying that we deserve another Dua Lipa album. Luckily, Lipa agrees and plans to release DL3 (placeholder title) in 2024. The rollout appears to be starting on Thursday, November 9, with “Houdini.”

The single will come out in London, where Lipa resides, at 11 p.m. GMT, as confirmed by Lipa on Instagram last week, and Pop Crave was kind enough to post the global time conversions:

For US fans, “Houdini” will become available on Thursday, November 9, at 3 p.m. PST and 6 p.m. EST.

Additionally, earlier this week, Lipa announced “three surprise launch events for ‘Houdini’ in London, Los Angeles, and Tokyo.” The events are billed as “Catch Me Or I Go…,” which begs the question: Is that an Easter egg for Lipa’s album title hiding in plain sight?

“The first one’s going to be in my hometown, London, this Thursday!!!” Lipa wrote across her social media accounts on Monday, November 6. “I’m going to be inviting down some of my fans from the UK and around Europe, so keep your eyes peeled.”

The “Houdini” Los Angeles and Tokyo events are scheduled for November 14 and November 20, respectively.

Dua Lipa is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Tyler Herro Left Heat-Grizzlies With An Ankle Injury After Stepping On Jaren Jackson Jr.’s Foot

tyler herro
Twitter

The Miami Heat have been up-and-down to start the 2023-24 NBA season, but one constant for them has been the play of Tyler Herro. After seeing his name put in trade talks all offseason, Herro has remained in Miami so far and has looked pretty good, putting up career-best numbers across the board and giving the team a shot in the arm on the offensive side of the ball.

Unfortunately for Herro and the Heat, his night came to a premature end on Wednesday as Miami traveled to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies. Herro attempted a runner and landed on the foot of Jaren Jackson Jr., which led to him rolling his ankle. He was clearly in pain, and while he was able to make his way to the locker room without any help, he hopped to the back on one leg.

It did not take too long for the Heat to rule Herro out for the remainder of the game.

The good news for Miami is that both Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo were able to play on Wednesday, so they still had their stars as they took on Memphis. Still, Herro’s ability to bring a punch on the offensive end of the floor is quite important for the Heat, and losing him for an extended period of time would be a tough pill to swallow.

When Do Bonnaroo Tickets Go On Sale?

Bonnaroo 2023

Last week, the annual Bonnaroo Music And Arts Festival confirmed it will return to Manchester, Tennessee from June 13 to June 16, 2024. This year’s festival featured Kendrick Lamar, Foo Fighters, and Odesza as headliners, and while the powers that be at Bonnaroo are still tight-lipped about the 2024 headliners, logistical information is beginning to trickle out.

On Wednesday, November 8, the Bonnaroo Instagram account posted an update on ticket prices, which can be read below:

“Bonnaroo is incredibly important to each and every one of us who works to make it happen each year, and we know how special this experience is to you. Bonnaroo’s official website has a tab for tickets, displaying the message: “Be the first to know about the presale, lineup, tickets, and more for 2024!” Below it are prompts to sign up via text (for US numbers only) or email. For now, that’s the only direction related to when tickets will go on sale, but especially eager fans can go ahead and book a hotel here.
