On her latest single, “Free My N***a,” Sexyy Red follows in the vein of Mariah Carey’s festive classic “All I Want For Christmas Is You.” The St. Louis native’s sole holiday wish is to see her love freedom from the carceral system. As fans wait for more details about the rapper’s forthcoming Hood Hottest Princess Deluxe project, this track could taste what’s to come.
Before Sexyy Red states her desires, she’s joined in the song’s introduction by her child, who echoes the missing of their father. Then, it’s time for Sexyy Red to make her case.
“Say he facin’ time, hell yeah, I’m a Skype somethin’ / Soon as he come home from the pen’, I let him bite somethin’ / That’s my baby, hell yeah, we in love / First day home, let him shoot up the club / Heard that n**** on the fifth floor, let me kite him / When I don’t hear from my n****, I write him / He a bad boy, I don’t care, that’s how I like ’em / Yeah, free my n**** ’til it’s backward,” she raps.
Sexyy Red has achieved what she’s put her mind to thus far, so securing her boyfriend’s release could be an objective reality.
Jokes about family Thanksgiving dinners dominated the timeline this week, but a very serious dinner might have occurred under the radar. On Wednesday, November 22, Pop Crave posted that Lady Gaga and will.i.am “were spotted leaving a restaurant” in Los Angeles after a reported four-hour dinner. According to NME, said dinner occurred on Tuesday night, November 21, and also involved Gaga’s boyfriend, Michael Polansky, and “a mystery woman.”
Shortly thereafter, photos began circulating on X (formerly known as Twitter) showing Gaga and will.i.am each holding very large and mysterious folders.
It is tangential evidence, at best, but that is all the evidence that some people needed to presume that Gaga and will.i.am must be cooking up new music. To be clear, there is no confirmation that the two chart-toppers are working on music — or anything at all — together. If they are, however, it would mark their first publicly released collaboration since will.i.am co-produced and co-wrote “Fashion!” from Gaga’s 2013 album, Artpop. Gaga’s most recent solo full-length release was Chromaticain May 2020, followed by a subsequent (oft-delayed) supporting tour.
“She has ideas and [is] an idea factory,” will.i.am told TMZ around their single’s arrival, adding, “I could only imagine that Britney is sitting on a plethora of songs that she’s done with different producers. I’m pretty sure her and Pharrell probably have stuff that was unreleased.”
Thanksgiving dinners are mostly back to normal now after some pandemic awfulness, but this year saw another unexpected guest: the rise of anti-obesity medication like Ozempic, which some love and some hate. The good news: Such drugs curb people’s ravenous appetites. The bad: What do those taking it do for a holiday centered around binge eating? For The Daily Show’s Ronny Chieng, this problem perfectly sums up his adopted nation.
“This is the most American story ever,” Chieng said during a segment on the show’s episode Wednesday night. “Big Pharma created a drug to help Americans eat less, and now they’re having anxiety over what they’re going to do on the eating holiday.”
Chieng did see one silver lining. “I will say Ozempic is great for people whose parents can’t cook,” he explained, imagining such people saying, “No, mom, I’m not hungry because of the Ozempic. It’s not because your dry turkey tastes like sh*t.”
He concluded that those on the drug can “focus on the real meaning of Thanksgiving: Friends, family, and remembering the time the Pilgrims and the Native Americans shared a meal and watched the Super Bowl and nothing bad ever happened after that, ever.”
Chieng, who was born in Malaysia and grew up in both Singapore and America, also explained what Thanksgiving looks like to an outsider, saying he “still can’t believe is a real holiday.” He added, “I asked someone what happens on Thanksgiving, and he said, ‘Uh, we all get together and eat.’ And I was like, ‘So it’s dinner?’”

SNL used to be in the movie business. After Wayne’s World became one of the biggest hits of 1992, the sketch show spent the next decade making decidedly less successful films. There were ones about the Coneheads, the ambiguously androgynous Pat, Stuart Smalley, the Roxbury guys, Mary Katherine Gallagher, et al. The last one was MacGruber, which bombed hard but has since become a cult classic. Maybe if it had made bank we would have gotten one for another beloved character, which sounds…amazing?
In an interview with Las Culturistas (as caught by Deadline), Seth Meyers revealed that at some point there was talk of doing a movie about Bill Hader and John Mulaney’s Stefon, the “city correspondent” who would grace Weekend Update with absurd stories of NYC’s nightlife. Meyers was not going to be one of the stars, he said, “because I knew it was going to be Stefon and James Franco or whoever.”
But Meyers knew who it would open: Stefon, after wrapping up one of his segments, would ask Meyers to join him for a night out on the town.
“And I’m like, ‘All right, one night,’” Meyers recalled. “And then you would do these super-fast cuts of he and I at all these crazy clubs. That would be the opening montage, and then it would end with me in a body bag, and Stefon would say, ‘He’s dead!’ Then the splash: Stefon: The Movie.”
Um, can they still make this? Hader has really stretched his legs in his post-SNL life, especially with Barry, which went to some truly jaw-dropping places. Surely he could do a film where Stefon offers viewers a tour of the seedy underbelly of the Big Apple.
Alas, it’s probably not to be. Earlier this year Hader told The New Yorker that he’s just not interested in a Stefon movie. He spoke about the uncertainty he felt after leaving SNL.
“It’s this weird combination of being open, but also clearly knowing what you don’t want. Like, nah, I don’t want to do a Stefon movie,” he said. “It didn’t work as a sketch! That’s why it was on ‘Weekend Update.’ And the reason people liked it is because I kept laughing.”
But don’t fret: You can always watch supercuts of Stefon’s many fine SNL appearances, starting here:
Last week, Cassie and Diddy reached a settlement regarding her lawsuit that accused him of sexual assault. Now, though, Diddy is facing two new lawsuits from other women.
As NBC News reports, Joie Dickerson-Neal filed her suit in the New York Supreme Court yesterday (November 23). In it, she accuses Diddy of drugging her via a drink she left unattended at a restaurant where they were having dinner together, in 1991. He then allegedly took her to a place where he was staying, where he sexually assaulted her.
The lawsuit also alleges Dickerson-Neal is a “revenge porn” victim, as Diddy allegedly recorded the alleged sexual assault and showed it to others.
Dickerson-Neal’s filing said it was Cassie’s lawsuit that “forced her to face his assault again.” Ultimately, the lawsuit accuses Diddy of assault and battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, sex trafficking, and revenge porn. She is seeking compensatory damages for mental and emotional injury, distress, pain and suffering, and injury.
In response to Dickerson’s lawsuit (which was filed under the New York Adult Survivors Act before its expiration on November 24), a Diddy spokesperson told XXL, “This last-minute lawsuit is an example of how a well-intentioned law can be turned on its head. Ms. Dickerson’s 32-year-old story is made up and not credible. Mr. Combs never assaulted her, and she implicates companies that did not exist. This is purely a money grab and nothing more.”
Rolling Stone also reports about a different new lawsuit filed against Diddy. The alleged incident at the center of the complaint is said to have taken place in 1990 or 1991, when Diddy and singer-songwriter Aaron Hall alleged took turns raping the Jane Doe plaintiff and her friend.
The lawsuit claims of an incident that took place at Hall’s apartment after an MCA Records-hosted event, “While at Hall’s apartment, Jane Doe was offered more drinks and was coerced into having sex with [Sean] Combs. After Combs finished doing his business, Jane Doe laid in bed, shocked and traumatized. As she was in the process of getting dressed, Hall barged into the room, pinned her down and forced Jane Doe to have sex with him.”
Days later, Diddy allegedly visited the home where Doe and her friend were staying and got violent: “He was irate and began assaulting and choking Jane Doe to the point that she passed out. Combs was searching for Jane Doe’s friend because he was worried that she would tell the girl he was with at the time what he and Hall had done to them.”
If there were ever any point when you wished you could be at two places at one time, that would be the annual Reading And Leeds Festival. Lana Del Rey, Blink-182, Fred Again.., and more are set to dazzle the UK crowd as headliners between August 21 and 25, 2024. As usual, the event will be simultaneously split between two locations. For Leeds, that’s Bramham Park, whereas the Reading portion will take place at Richfield Avenue.

Fair warning: Steven and Ian assumed they would be in a turkey coma this week, so they banked an episode ahead of time in order to fully enjoy their Thanksgiving celebrations. Hopefully, they did not miss any world-changing music news. If they did, just assume that the guys were killed in some music-industry related mishap. Keep their memory in your hearts!
The upside of this is that Steven and Ian are finally inducting some new albums into the Indiecast Hall Of Fame after an endless eight-month hiatus. Steven decided to pick three albums from one year: 1988. His choices include deathless classics from The Go-Betweens, The Waterboys, and The Smithereens. Ian meanwhile cast a wider net, picking albums from a range of eras including the 1990s (Grant Lee Buffalo), the 2000s (Elbow), and the 2010s (Restorations). It was an incredibly serious and honorable ceremony enjoyed by all!
New episodes of Indiecast drop every Friday. Listen to Episode 165 here and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. You can submit questions for Steve and Ian at [email protected], and make sure to follow us on Instagram and Twitter for all the latest news. The Dallas Cowboys bludgeoned the Washington Commanders on Thanksgiving, as they ran away with a 45-10 win over their rivals. The play of the game came late in the fourth quarter when DaRon Bland housed his fifth pick-6 of the season, setting a new NFL record with Jim Nantz providing an incredible call of the moment.
Just prior to that, the Dallas offense had put up its fifth touchdown of the afternoon, as Dak Prescott hit KaVontae Turpin up the seam for a 34-yard touchdown to make it 38-10 midway through the fourth quarter. At that point, the game was out of hand and the Cowboys decided it was finally time to break out their planned celebration of pulling turkey legs wrapped in foil out of the Salvation Army kettle in the back of the end zone and enjoying a little midgame snack.

What makes the celebration funnier is that the Cowboys had a “two or three day” discussion of whether they’d get flagged or the coaches would go for it, but when Dak brought it up to Jerry Jones and Mike McCarthy before the game, they were in for it — provided they didn’t do it too early. Prescott explained they considered it after CeeDee Lamb’s TD to go up 31-10 early in the fourth, but were confident they’d get one more to truly ice the game on the Commanders.
Dak Prescott said he brought up the turkey leg celebration to Jerry Jones before the game and the Cowboys owner liked the idea pic.twitter.com/AcDQAJZUnZ
Not only did they have to get Jones and McCarthy’s blessing and be patient by waiting until they were sure the celebration couldn’t come back to haunt them by doing it too early, they also had to have turkey legs stashed in each end zone, meaning the Salvation Army Kettle in the other end zone also had a to-go bag stashed in it.
I’m not sure I’d call it rock bottom because this is the Washington Commanders, but having your arch-rivals hide turkey legs around the stadium for a touchdown celebration and then be confident they could wait for their fifth touchdown of the game, not their fourth, to break them out is fairly embarrassing. It was a terrific Thanksgiving football moment (for non Commanders fans) and I hope the Cowboys continue trying to up the ante on Thanksgiving food themed celebrations going forward. Maybe next year they can put cranberry sauce in a Gatorade cooler and dump that on Mike McCarthy.
