Mom shares ‘secret’ note she slipped to the pediatrician about daughter’s weight

There is a growing trend online and in therapists’ offices that is a backlash against the toxic positivity of the body positivity movement: body neutrality. This new perspective takes a neutral view of our bodies and encourages people to stop saying they are “good” or “bad,” “ugly,” or “gorgeous,” but that they just are.

“Body neutrality means taking a neutral perspective towards your body, meaning that you do not have to cultivate a love for your body or feel that you have to love your body every day. You may not always love your body, but you may still live happily and appreciate everything your body can do,” Very Well Mind writes.

Mother Caroline Hardin shared a great example of body neutrality on TikTok recently. In a post that received over 100,000 views, She shared a note she secretly handed to her daughter’s pediatrician at a recent appointment.

“Trying something new at the pediatrician will report back how it goes,” Caroline began in her video before revealing a handwritten note she gave to the doctor.

The note reads:

“Doctor. When discussing my child’s weight and/or BMI, please refrain from using qualitative words like ‘good’ or ‘bad.’ We have managed so far to keep a body-neutral and body-positive environment for her childhood, and I appreciate your cooperation in preserving that for as long as we can.”

The unfortunate underlying message to the note is that Caroline’s daughter will one day have to exist in a world where her body is scrutinized. Every opportunity the mom has to delay that eventuality is a positive step for her development.

In a subsequent video, Caroline noted that the visit to the doctor went off perfectly.

Replying to @Caroline we will continue to take it one year at a time but we made it through this year’s checkup unscathed! #bodyneutrality #bodypositiveparenting

“We made it back home, and I’m happy to report that it went really well. The nurse made no comment when she was weighing my kid,” Caroline recalled. When the pediatrician popped in, she had a growth curve without any numbers that she was able to show to Caroline and her daughter. The doctor even used an age-appropriate way of describing the daughter’s health. “Your body is growing exactly how it wants to grow. Hooray!” she said.

“There were no discussions about restricting sugar or restrictions at all,” Caroline added. “So, my kids’ takeaway was that the doctor noticed her nail polish and that she got to tell her she has 8 friends.”

The video received much praise from women who wished they could have enjoyed a body-neutral childhood. “You legit just healed some of my soul. Thank you for this!!!” katmc52384 wrote in the comments. “Looovvveee this. Couldn’t figure out how to head it off without embarrassing my kid. Thank you!!” Carter added.

Caroline is happy that she found a way to take her daughter to the doctor without introducing her to the pain of body stigmatization. She also shared a way for parents everywhere to address a tricky situation without their children being alerted to our culture’s toxic perceptions of bodies and beauty.

That Cole Bennett-Directed Drake Video Has Finally Arrived, And It’s For ‘Another Late Night’ Featuring Lil Yachty

Hours before For All The Dogs arrived, Drake set the table by releasing “8AM In Charlotte” alongside an adorable video co-starring his nearly six-year-old son, Adonis, who happens to be the artist of the album’s cover art. And tonight (October 6), Drake served fans some dessert to cap off an eventful release day: The video for “Another Late Night” featuring Lil Yachty, directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett.

Bennett directed and edited the three-minute video, shot in Maple Ridge in Vancouver, Canada. It has a Christmas-adjacent theme. A Christmas carol is the first sound we hear, followed by someone saying, “Christmas came early.” Christmas lights are everywhere, fully coating a luxurious car, while Lil Boat and Drake’s bars beam bright into the night.

On October 1 — the 10-year anniversary of Lyrical Lemonade — Bennett detailed his first-ever collaboration with Drake while visiting with Kids Take Over — putting fans on high alert.

“Drake had a few off-days in Vancouver, and he wanted to shoot a video while he was out there,” the prolific director said. “We’re working on a few different projects right now, one of which was to knock something out in Vancouver. With an artist of his size, you have to be aware of — you know, just, we looked at a few locations in Vancouver, it was a little hot. … The Maple Ridge location felt the most tucked away and ducked off, and it was surrounded by trees, and it just felt like the safest place to do it.”

He added, “I’ve known [Drake] for a few years. We’ve talked about working for a few years now, and I just knew it was gonna be when the time was right. I was supposed to do the ‘Search & Rescue‘ video.”

While this marks the first time Bennett and Drake have professionally linked, Bennett previously directed Lil Yachty’s videos for “Poland” and “Strike (Holster).”

Drake celebrated For All The Dogs by performing his It’s All A Blur Tour at his hometown Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena, where he’ll return for another show on Saturday night (October 7).

What Is Sufjan Stevens’ Sexuality?

Sufjan Stevens’ private life has become public in the lead-up to Javelin, his latest album released on Friday (October 6). In late September, Stevens shared that he’d been hospitalized and diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that caused his hands, arms, and legs to go numb — robbing him of the ability to walk. On Friday, Stevens’ admirable vulnerability was yet again on display when, for the first time, he gave an intimate glimpse into his love life and sexuality.

JAVELIN is out today,” Stevens captioned an Instagram post. “Thank you for listening. I love you. This album is dedicated to the light of my life, my beloved partner and best friend Evans Richardson, who passed away in April. He was an absolute gem of a person, full of life, love, laughter, curiosity, integrity, and joy. He was one of those rare and beautiful ones you find only once in a lifetime—precious, impeccable, and absolutely exceptional in every way.”

The photo shows Richardson smiling while relaxing in bed.

Stevens continued in the caption, “I know relationships can be very difficult sometimes, but it’s always worth it to put in the hard work and care for the ones you love, especially the beautiful ones, who are few and far between. If you happen to find that kind of love, hold it close, hold it tight, savor it, tend to it, and give it everything you’ve got, especially in times of trouble. Be kind, be strong, be patient, be forgiving, be vigorous, be wise, and be yourself. Live every day as if it is your last, with fullness and grace, with reverence and love, with gratitude and joy. This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Thank you. I love you. XOS”

It is no one’s place to speculate about Stevens’ sexuality. It would be irresponsible (and disrespectful) to project any label onto him, other than brave.

Javelin is out now via Asthmatic Kitty Records. Find more information here.

20 years after her father’s death, ‘daddy’s girl’ receives a letter from him on her wedding day

Freya Rosati, 32, from Buckinghamshire, England, received the most incredible gift on her wedding day: a letter from her father, who had passed away 20 years ago. Freya “loved” her father’s card, making her feel like he was “really there” on the momentous occasion.

In 2002, Freya’s father, Philip Hargreaves, a pub landlord, was having constant indigestion. Tests revealed he had terminal esophageal cancer and just six months to live.

Freya is a confessed daddy’s girl, and she and her father did everything together. He took her to dance lessons, and they would play games together and watch movies. When Phillip learned that his days with his daughter were numbered, he got to work writing 9 letters to be given to her throughout her lifetime.

Eight of the letters were given to her on her birthdays, and one was written for her wedding day. “He wrote me cards every birthday up until my 18th, then one for my 21st, and a final for my wedding day. But the wedding day was the most important one,” Freya said.

Phillip passed away at 53 when Freya was just 11 years old. On the day that she married her love, Michael, Freya’s mother, Theresa, 68, read the letter her father wrote her and shared how she was instrumental in getting him to write. The letter was a fantastic way to make her dad present during the ceremony and was a perfect father-of-the-bride speech.

“Once he was very ill, I bought a selection of cards and helped him to write them for [inaudible] and Freya to receive on their birthdays and on their wedding day,” Theresa said. “I have the last one today for Freya, and she would like to share it with you to include her dad on her special day.”

The letter had a simple and powerful message. It takes strength to make a marriage work, but Freya is more than up to the challenge.

Bride receives message from her dad on wedding day, 20 years after his death

I wish I could be standing next to you, the proudest dad in the world, to walk you down the aisle to the man you love, and to the next chapter in your life. Today is your day, enjoy everything about it. Laugh and cry. Be happy and confident.

Face everything full-on. You will then succeed in your life together. You gave me some of the proudest moments in my life with your sense of humour, intelligence, understanding, and caring nature. Don’t ever change. Love you forever, dad.

The letter wasn’t her father’s only contribution on the wedding day. She wore a diamond necklace that he gave her as a gift on her big day. All in all, Freya thinks her dad would have approved of her big day.

“My dad would’ve loved that wedding – just hearing his words, I can imagine him saying them to me,” she concluded.

Phillip’s heartfelt letter to his daughter is a powerful reminder that our days are numbered. Never miss an opportunity to tell the people in your life how much you love them because you never know when you won’t be able to anymore.

We Finally Got The Dare Remixing A James Murphy Track, As The Prophesy Foretold

In August 2022, The Dare (real name Harrison Patrick Smith) described his music as “cheeky, fun, sexy, and punk” in an interview with Uproxx’s Carolyn Droke. Others often describe The Dare’s music as resembling LCD Soundsystem, making his latest offering — the first since his The Sex EP from May — all the more satisfying.

On Friday, October 6, Lol Tolhurst (of The Cure) x Budgie (Siouxsie & The Banshees and The Creatures) x Jacknife Lee shared The Dare’s remix of “Los Angeles” featuring James Murphy, perhaps known best as a member of LCD Soundsystem. “Los Angeles” first arrived in July as the title track of Lol Tolhurst x Budgie x Jacknife Lee’s upcoming album.

“Joan Didion said, ‘The city burning is Los Angeles’ deepest image of itself,’ The Dare said in a statement about the remix. “It’s a total honor for Budgie, Jacknife, Lol, and James to let me set their work on fire.”

The remix emits manic energy from the start, the sort of charged sonic motor necessary for such a confrontational song with bold proclamations like “Los Angeles eats its children / Los Angeles eats its young / Los Angeles, she don’t need water / Los Angeles just needs guns.”

Per press release, “More music from The Dare is imminent.”

Listen to The Dare’s remix of “Los Angeles” above, and check out his upcoming live dates below.

Coi Leray Indulges Her ‘Playboy’ Fantasies In Her ‘Players’ Video, For Which We Had To Wait Nearly A Whole Year

Coi Leray empowered people everywhere with her undeniably catchy “Players” single last November, leading to equally as fun remixes with Busta Rhymes and Tokischa. Since then, “Players” has been certified platinum and busted several Billboard charts, Leray released Coi, and she engaged in beef, squashed that beef, then sort of re-engaged in it again with Latto — all before dropping a video for “Players.” That finally changed on Friday, October 6.

“‘PLAYERS’ OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO OUT NOW !!!!!!” Leray posted on Instagram alongside several heart and flower emojis. “#sorryforthewait this sh*t is ICONIC [two flame emojis].”

And she’s not wrong. The cinematic video begins with a highlight reel of Leray’s rise to dominance — depicting a risqué photoshoot for a Playboy magazine cover — as she says, “See, me, I love breaking the rules. I do what the f*ck I want, when I want, where I want, and I keep God first, always. So I make sure I move with grace. This is chess, not checkers. While they prayin’ on my downfall, I’ll never let my crown fall. Keep it playa, baby.”

Once the song starts, we see a confident and very stylist Leray step outside only to be met by throngs of paparazzi and fans. She’s leading boardrooms, posing for the cameras, hopping on a private jet, letting loose on a yacht, and leading the charge at the nightclub. In other words, anyone who watches should feel like immediately slamming shut their laptops (or chucking their phones) and actualizing their every fantasy.

Olivia Wilde Shared A Post Calling For Taylor Swift To Date A Climate Scientist, So People Dunked On Her For Dating Harry Styles

Most people wait months to introduce whomever they’re dating to friends and family, expertly delaying the inevitable echo chamber of unsolicited opinions. Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce do not have that luxury, as everyone (including inanimate objects like the Empire State Building) has chimed in on whatever is going on between them romantically.

This week, the NFL issued a statement, Rachel Zegler defended Swift, and a former White House staffer said Swift is “the only person who can” beat Donald Trump in a presidential election. (Sorry, Taylor can’t come the White House phone right now. Why? Because she’s already the de facto President Of Chiefs Kingdom.) Olivia Wilde has joined the chat — acknowledging Swift’s unparalleled influence as our climate’s last hope.

On Thursday night, October 5, Wilde took to her Instagram Story to re-share an X (formerly known as Twitter) post from the Dutch actor Katja Herbers reading, “I wish Taylor Swift was in love with a climate scientist.”

@oliviawilde on Instagram

Before we get to the irony of Wilde’s repost, it should be noted that Herbers’ take on the situation didn’t end there. “All Swifties hurriedly googling ‘climate emergency,’ she wrote on X, followed by, “Taylor would join her scientist at an end fossil fuels rally and the world would be saved.”

Now, back to Wilde: People online are giving the actor and director the side-eye because her most recent ex (or, at least the most recent person the public was aware Wilde dated) is Harry Styles, who famously is not a climate scientist — though he does often dabble in activism waters and make the world better in other ways. Not to mention, Styles briefly dated Swift a decade ago.

“I get it but like also…who is Olivia Wilde to say sh*t,” one person named Jennifer posted on X. “I don’t remember Harry Styles restoring the ozone when they were dating.”

“The stupidest thing @oliviawilde could do after breaking up with Harry Styles is daring to mention Taylor Swift,” reads another post from a user named Myla. (Styles and Wilde split late last year.)

Separately, Jessica Barrera pointed out the hit Wilde’s reputation took around the controversial rollout of Don’t Worry Darling, the September 2022 film she directed and in which Styles co-starred alongside Florence Pugh. Wilde was alleged to have not been, erm, the most supportive presence for Pugh, as reports surfaced that the two had “a screaming match” while filming, and Wilde believed Pugh was “f*cking Harry,” according to the ex-nanny of Wilde and Jason Sudeikis. (Sudeikis and Wilde denied all of the nanny’s claims.)

Swift is used to her love life — or any aspect of her existence — being placed under the microscope and dissected by millions of strangers, but the point is that she shouldn’t have to get used to that. Moral of the story: Can we please let women date whomever they please without placing the expectations of the (literal) world on their shoulders?

For now, the NFL will continue to leverage every ounce of Swiftian power to its advantage.

What Did Drake Say About His Stomach Problems?

Few people can relate to Drake’s career achievements, but we know we share at least one thing in common with the record-breaking chart-topper: A stomach ache can still bring him to his knees.

On Friday, October 6, Drake finally released his For All The Dogs album, and, as is the case with every Drake project, the rest of the day was consumed by people dissecting everything about it. But Drake fans might want to especially savor this ritual because For All The Dogs could be his last drop for a while.

“I probably won’t make music for a little bit,” Drake said on his Table For One show on SiriusXM’s Sound 42. “I’mma be real with you. I need to focus on my health, first and foremost, and I’ll talk about that soon enough. Nothing crazy, but I want people to be healthy in life, and I’ve been having the craziest problems, for years, with my stomach.”

He added, “I need to focus on my health, and I need to get right, and I’m gonna do that. […] I have a lot of other things that I would love to focus on, so I’m going to lock the door on the studio for a little bit. I don’t know what ‘a little bit’ is. Maybe a year or something. Maybe a little bit longer.”

In February, Drake told Lil Yachty that he had started contemplating what his rap retirement may eventually look like, and an excerpt of what he had to say then can be read below:

“I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit. I feel like a lot of people that I’ve watched as the years have gone on, it’s a really addictive, competitive space, and oftentimes, you’re addicted to the competition itself. And so, sometimes it’ll baffle you. Like, why are these people still making attempts at trying to present in the space? And then you’ll realize, like, their needs and desires and their soul was probably fed for so long off of being a guy or the guy that they can’t let it go.

I guess what’s left for me is just to find a way to gracefully — like, I’m not ready now, but to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely interesting and hopefully cherished by people, and then to find the right time to say, ‘I can’t wait to see what the next generation does.’ I’ll still be around to work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to force myself to compete.”

Drake’s It’s All A Blur Tour with 21 Savage is winding down, with hometown dates at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena tonight (October 6) and tomorrow (October 7). See all of his remaining dates here.
