Video of two 90-year-old sisters saying goodbye shoots straight to the heart

A video making the rounds online is reminding us all that love transcends all time and distance.

94-year-old Barbara Carolan of Seabrook, Massachusetts, hadn’t been able to see her 90-year-old sister Shirley, who lives in Nevada, since 2020.

When it became clear to Barbara that she might not have much time left to spend with her beloved sister, she prepared to make the 2,700-mile cross country trip to say goodbye.

“They waited so long to see each other, and if you don’t know if you’re going to see someone again, you know, especially siblings, it must be really hard,” Barbara’s granddaughter, Stephanie Atkinson Shively, told told her local news outlet WMUR.

Shively volunteered to ride alongside her grandmother and document the trip. In a TikTok video, which has been seen over 13 million times, we see Barbara and Shirley getting emotional while reminiscing.

“We had a wonderful, wonderful time,” Barbara tells Shirley through tears.

“If we don’t see each other [again] on this earth, we’ll see each other in heaven,” her little sister assured.

“You betcha!” Barbara sobs. “You betcha.”

Watch the video below, aptly captioned: “Hug your sister.”

Needless to say, viewers were struck by the sweet moment.

“There needs to be a category on this app for videos that are guaranteed to make you cry cuz dammit I’m tired of randomly balling my eyes out!” one person wrote.

Another added, “It’s not good bye, it’s see you later. I imagine when we pass, it’ll be like going home. And never again will we have to be separated from the ones we love.”

Shively shared several other moments from the journeys, including some pictures of the sisters when they were younger. But the ‘last tearjerker’ showed grandma Barbara waving goodbye as she made her way back home.

There’s a bit of comic relief in this one, as Barbara yells “until we meet again!” and gets “WHAT?!” from Shirley, having to repeat herself a few times.

All in all, just a beautiful, heartwarming reminder to savor our lives, and all the loved ones in it.

Now go hug someone.

Baby has perfect faces while pretending to be a ‘tall woman’ on her mom’s shoulders

Cartoons and TV shows always made it look like stacking three kids on top of each other under a long coat could fool anyone. “Move along folks, nothing to see here. Just an abnormally tall man with the face of a toddler,” is the vibe those scenes gave off and somehow the trick almost always worked.

But it’s really not something that’s ever come up in real life. No rogue kindergarteners attempting to get into a bar by hiding under a long overcoat. It seemed like one of those things you’d encounter more often growing up, you know…like the quicksand problem that plagued the country. Children are simply much more supervised than cartoons would have you believe. But just because there’s supervision doesn’t mean there can’t be shenanigans.

TikTok user, Messi Ross uploaded a video of her toddler pulling the old stack people to pretend you’re an adult gag. Except, mom was in on it.

Well, technically since she’s clearly a toddler, it’s not like she could pull it off on her own. Ross hoisted her toddler daughter up on her shoulders to go shopping and hilarity ensues. As they walk through the store looking like a very tell lady with a tiny head, the baby’s facial expressions somehow matched up with her mom’s actions.

Tyla uploaded the video on Facebook with captions making the video even more hilarious. Commenters are enjoying the silly shopping experience, too.

“This remind me of a movie The Little Rascals stymie and Spanky dress as gentleman went to take out loan,” one person writes.

“I would die of laughing if I saw this in person. So cute and funny,” another says.

“This is so adorable!!! Put a big smile on my face!!! Thank you!!!,” one person writes.

After doubting the paternity of her best friend’s son, woman begs her to get a DNA test

Sometimes, the quest for the truth can push people to make extreme choices, especially when not knowing the answer eats away at them daily. Such is the story of Reddit user FooFooBunnyLa, who was so concerned over the identity of her best friend’s child that she forced her to get a paternity test.

Her best friend had a son with a man she claimed was a one-night stand, so she raised him alone. As the child grew older, FooFooBunnyLa started to get suspicious.

“The issue is this: this kid looks EXTREMELY like my husband like to an insane degree,” FooFooBunnyLA wrote on the Reddit AITA subforum. “The hair color, eyes, face, everything. He’s even been out with my friend and her son, and people have mistaken him to be the dad before. Needless to say, for three years now, I’ve had my suspicions, but I haven’t said anything. My husband is also close to my friend, and the timeline works out. We were all living almost in the same neighborhood around the time she got pregnant.”

Over the years, the resemblance began to gnaw away at the woman, and her friend wouldn’t show her a picture of the child’s biological father, no matter how much she asked.

distressed woman, sad woman, depressed woman

The situation was suspicious. The child looked a lot about her husband, and her friend wasn’t forthcoming with any evidence to prove otherwise. To put the issue to bed, the friend took the DNA test. The results would have enormous ramifications for everyone involved.

“Long story short, my friend got a paternity test but said our friendship is over,” FooFooBunnyLA wrote. “The test says my husband isn’t the father. I feel so ashamed to lose my friend, but I thought my husband would slightly understand since even he sees the obvious resemblance between him and this kid. But he has moved out for the time being, and I’m worried this is the end of our marriage.”

The woman asked the online forum if she did the right thing.

“I honestly felt like I had no other choice,” she confided. “The resemblance was unavoidable and it was eating at me so much that no amount of therapy could help. I thought my husband would understand my fears most of all given my history with past cheating exes.”

depressed woman, paternity tests, woman in chair

The woman received over 1400 responses, and nearly everyone agreed that she was wrong in the situation.

“Wait so you thought your supposedly cheating husband would just casually comment on his love-child like ‘oh gee honey doesn’t he look just like me’ to his already paranoid wife?” Toyworker, the most popular commenter, wrote. “Why the f*** would he do that if he was actually guilty? Why the f*** would either of them indulge you if they actually cheated?”

However, one commenter noted that if the woman successfully caught them with the test, people’s opinions of her would differ significantly.

If the results had come back positive, I think it would be mostly … praise for trusting her instincts,” DCPhoto78 wrote.

Ultimately, asking for the test ruined both relationships regardless of the outcome. Her friend and husband were sickened by the accusation, which created a point of no return for their relationship with her. Even if she were correct, the lying and the infidelity would have also caused severe and irreparable damage to the woman’s relationship with her friend and husband as well.

If FooFoo BunnyLa had to do it all over again, would she ask for the test?

Psychologist breaks down the real reason we love true crime, and it’s blowing people’s minds

Unlike the murder victims it centers around, there seems to be no end in sight for true crime, and the cult-like following it inspires. One in three Americans consume true crime content—be it in the form of a podcast, movies, television series, books, even online forums and videos—at least once a week. Thirteen percent of those folks would even say it’s their favorite genre.

But just what is it about this pop culture juggernaut that has us hooked? Danger and suspense? Mystery? Our fascination with the dark side of humanity?

Perhaps. But according to one psychologist, there’s another insidious reason lurking in the shadows of our subconscious.

While appearing on a recent episode of “The Mel Robbins Podcast,” Dr. Thema Bryant told viewers:

“If your idea of relaxing before you go to sleep is watching three episodes of ‘Law & Order,’ I would encourage you to think about, ‘Why is trauma relaxing to me?’”

Driving the point home, Bryant follows up with, “That’s what it is. It’s harm, crime violation, attacks, and that’s what’s going to soothe me into my bedtime.”

Bryant explained that her clients who engage in this activity often say they enjoy it because it feels “normal and familiar.”

In other words, some of us might be crime aficionados because of unresolved trauma.

@melrobbins If your idea of “relaxing” before bed is watching a few episodes of Law & Order (or any other #truecrime show), listen up. This was just ONE of the many incredible mic drop moments 🎤 and knowledge bombs 💣 that @Dr Thema Bryant drops on the #melrobbinspodcast. Listen now!! 👉 “6 Signs You’re Disconnected From Your Power and How to Get It Back: Life-Changing Advice From the Remarkable Dr. Thema Bryant” 🔗 in bio #melrobbins #podcast #trauma #traumatok #healing #bingewatching ♬ original sound – Mel Robbins

“Some of us grew up in high stress, so people mistake peace for boring,” she said. “And it’s like, to come home to yourself, you have to lean into the discomfort, because it’s gonna feel unfamiliar.”

Bryant’s perspective was a bit of a mic drop moment online, with several true-crime fans coming to some shocking self realizations.

“[And] this was the moment I realized . . . I haven’t watched [‘Law & Order: Special Victims Unit’] since I went to therapy and started healing,” another person wrote. one person wrote on TikTok.

“Gut drop…Off to journal,” wrote another.

Over on Youtube, folks had a similar reaction.

via GIPHY

“Ouch! Hit home! Never ever thought about that. Wow!” exclaimed one viewer.

Still, others weren’t so sold on the theory, and attested that there was much more nuance to their intrigue.

One person argued “The trauma isn’t relaxing to me- it’s the justice the characters/real people often get that I never did in my own life.”

Or maybe, a few suggested, people listen to true crime simply for its distinct monotonous timbre.

“I really thought it’s because of the boring solemn tone of the show, the soothing voice of the narrator,” one person quipped.

There might be other components at play as well. According to YouGov.com, over half of all American true crime consumers say it not only gives them a better understanding of the justice system, but it makes them more empathetic as well—which goes against the common sentiment that the genre desensitizes people to violence and makes them overly fearful or paranoid.

As any good detective knows, all motivations are worth considering. I think we can all agree that it’s always interesting to contemplate why we do the things we do. Whether that’s committing a crime, or using one to go to sleep.

What Are The Ice Spice Dunkin Donuts Munchkin Drink Nutritional Facts?

Ice Spice’s recent partnership with Dunkin Donuts has taken the internet by storm — particularly for its interesting ingredients. For those who are unfamiliar with the drink, the coffee chain blends a few of their pumpkin munchkins into their frozen coffee before topping it with whipped cream and caramel.

Some on social media have also dissected the drink’s nutritional facts, as it clearly contains a lot of sugar. Users were also shocked by the blending and creation process.

Here’s what to know before going to get it.

According to Dunkin Donuts, the calorie count for the various sizes of the Ice Spice drink are: 590 for a small size, 830 for a medium, and 1080 for a large. With each drink, they also adjust the ingredient level and how many munchkins are blended in.

While the exact nutrition facts haven’t been updated for the coffee chain in a few months, Popsugar was able to estimate some other stats. The publication points out that a small size would have around 44 grams of sugar, based on the previous information provided about how much the syrups and munchkins are.

This number would then obviously increase when adjusted for the larger sizes.

Can Hasan Minhaj Win Back His Audience’s Trust?

Comedian Hasan Minhaj’s greatest infraction as a storyteller isn’t one he committed against his audience by telling a few fibs. That’s if it even counts as an infraction at all.

Nuance is required to process revelations in The New Yorker about Minhaj fabricating details in both his Homecoming King and King’s Jester Netflix specials to amplify the wow factor of some of his stories.

To be fair, most comedians are going to cut their personal revelations with filler and hyperbole to better fit their stories into certain narrative boxes and themes. Some will also play around with an audience’s assumption of who and how they are. Exaggerated personas and statements are a tool. I don’t think Sam Kinnison was always yelling in the ’90s or that Bo Burnham spent the pandemic alone and hermitesque, do you?

Doing what Minhaj did: making up a story about his daughter having to be rushed to the hospital because he and his wife thought the child had been exposed to anthrax at a time of heightened concern over death threats against him? That’s exaggeration on steroids, but is all fair in the name of art and storytelling if the goal is to land on the emotional truth of that moment (to borrow some of Minhaj’s phrasing from his interview in the New Yorker piece)? I’m not sure, but also, was that the only goal?

There’s a sad irony in that the moral of his latest special (The King’s Jester) was that Minhaj wanted to put family above clout chasing. He expressed that when we spoke at the time.

“Candidly, when my marriage was going through those really tough spots, it was a realization that I came to and that my wife and I talked about, and it was like, “What really matters here?” And I care so much more about Beena [his wife] than I do Deadline articles.”

We know now that some of those “tough spots” weren’t quite as they were presented (such as the anthrax scare), but I believe the overall sentiment. I also still love the special, again, because I am going to believe the overall theme. The thing is, it would be easy to not, and that’s because of this unforced error.

Hasan Minhaj is a truly great visual and comedic storyteller, and not just because some of his signature stories have been rooted in these fantastical things where he’s right there at the turn of history or in the crosshairs. The personal moments in King’s Jester about trying to have a kid and dealing with the polluting effects of fame are masterful, human, hilarious, and thought-provoking. But were they enough?

You could open a whole other wing of this article examining whether it’s a lack of confidence in the material, in himself, or in the marketplace that led Minhaj to think he needed to inflate his stories or himself to make this special truly pop and aid his career goals. That’s okay, by the way. Everyone’s supposed to act humble and #blessed when good things happen in their career and they get what they want, like it’s all accidental, but it takes planning, ambition, and choices. Minhaj just made some questionable ones, though I suppose that’s a matter of perspective.

It’s easy to sit here and say the same impact would have been felt if, when talking about death threats, he did so without the twist involving his daughter. Ditto the danger felt with his meeting with the Saudis at the Embassy. Does the story work if that happens a month after the news dropped about the murder of reporter Jamal Khashoggi instead of the day of? Yes, but would either of these stories have blown up like they did without those details? That’s not justification, it’s understanding the motive. The point, however, is that in choosing to amp up or conjure stories, Minhaj was still clout-chasing… in the special about how he didn’t see as much value in clout-chasing.

Listen, Hasan Minhaj is going to be fine. More than. His profile always seems to be rising. Cancellation is a mostly made-up term that describes what happens when a sex pest has to play sold-out clubs instead of sold-out arenas for a few months. This doesn’t come close to comparing. Minhaj will get work, maybe not Daily Show work (he’s been rumored to be the favorite to replace Trevor Noah as perma-host after a tremendous guest host stint), but work.

Maybe his next special will be all about this moment, a double down on his response in The New Yorker, his hubris, his ambition, and what he learned from it all. Comedy fans and critics (myself included) clamor for that kind of personal storytelling and vulnerability (as evidenced by the response to Minhaj’s previous specials from critics, myself included), so in a way this almost feels like call and action. We’re always begging for more interesting, uniquely personal, and revelatory comedy, and now we’ll get exactly that.

Hasan Minhaj: The Storyteller

Hasan Minhaj: Trust Me

Hasan Minhaj: To Tell The Truth

Again, not justification. There are earned consequences here. No matter what Minhaj says and how powerfully and effectively he says it, it’s all going to hit just a bit differently with a vapor barrier of doubt lingering over everything, making us question if he’s being real with us or not for a long while. And that’s the thing that sucks the most about this.

Of all Hasan Minhaj’s skills as a comedian, it’s his ability to connect with an audience that has always been the most supernatural. Great storytellers don’t necessarily need great stories, they’re great storytellers because they can read the back of a cereal box in a compelling way. But none of it matters if they can’t get an audience to connect with them because people don’t trust them.

One final question with all of the above in mind: if someone gets praise/awards/attention for something that they later get in trouble for, but the consequences pale in contrast to the rewards, is it all worth it? I guess it all depends on what you were chasing: the clout or the connection.

The National Announced Their New Album ‘Laugh Track’ At Their Homecoming Cincinnati Festival And It’s Coming Out Very Soon

While it’s only been a few months since The National dropped their album, First Two Pages Of Frankenstein, it seems they’ve been hard at work on another. Tonight the band kicked off their Homecoming 2023 Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Across the two festival days, fans also get to hear either High Violet or Trouble Will Find Me played in full. They can catch other acts tomorrow like Pavement, Snail Mail, Weyes Blood, and more. Tickets are still available for 1-Day General Admission for Saturday here.

And they had a special announcement in store: unveiling that their new album, Laugh Track, is on the way. It will also drop sooner than most expected, arriving Sunday night at midnight — or Monday morning, technically.

While not much else is known about The National’s new record yet, those attending the first night received a truly welcoming surprise.

First Two Pages Of Frankenstein dropped back in April, featuring collaborations with Phoebe Bridgers, Sufjan Stevens, and Taylor Swift. They then headed out on a worldwide tour, including a stop at Madison Square Garden with Patti Smith as a surprise guest. The National’s tour dates are continuing in Europe through early October.

“Even though we’d always been anxious whenever we were working on a record, this was the first time it ever felt like maybe things really had come to an end,” lead singer Matt Berninger shared previously.

Drake Used A Picture Of Halle Berry For ‘Slime You Out’ And She Said It Was ‘Not Cool’ Without Permission

Just a few hours after Drake dropped his “Slime You Out” collaboration with SZA, actress Halle Berry has some thoughts. Specifically, she took to social media after finding out the Canadian rapper used her photo to promote the track without permission.

The photo is of Berry covered in slime, which actually happened at the 2012 Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards. Her Instagram post was a simple photo that read: “Sometimes you have to be the bigger guy… Even if you’re a woman!”

Berry then replied to a fan who flat out asked her what she thought about it — and she did not hold back. “Didn’t get my permission,” she said. “That’s not cool I thought better of him!”

“Hence my post today,” Berry added with a second comment. “When people you admire disappoint you, you have to be the bigger person and move on.”

After the news broke, fans on social media pointed out that it’s not even used as the actual single cover, but Drake’s For All The Dogs album art is. Still, others get where she’s coming from. “The wild part is that Halle Berry probably would’ve been cool with Drake using her photo if he would’ve just asked,” wrote one user.

Check out Halle Berry’s comments about being used for Drake’s “Slime You Out” below.
