There aren’t too many records this week on The Chi as Pastor Jackson’s funeral and the tearful moments take precedence over it. In episode seven of season six, titled “Long Live,” we see that Papa, of course, and Bakari are most affected by Pastor Jackson’s death. Papa is initially frustrated with Bakari as the former knows that it is Douda’s crew who is responsible for the murder. Papa later takes out his anger on Kenya, but he seems to settle down by the end of the episode. The death also takes a toll on Bakari who shows his emotions in more ways than one in this episode.

Elsewhere, Kevin prepares for his move to Los Angeles, Jemma and Maisha’s rift grows now that Gianna is in the picture thanks to Jemma’s managerial interest in her, Keisha goes to therapy and discovers a harsh reality about herself and her mother, and lastly, Emmett and Keisha are closer than ever to a breaking point following Pastor Jackson’s death.

We hear this record around the 12:58 mark as Keisha arrives at a barbershop to meet Nuk. The two then go into a back room where Keisha asks Nuk to make sure that she, Emmett, and their family will always remain safe. Nuk promises to protect Keisha, but not Emmett, something that Keisha refuses to be okay with.

Genesis Denise Hale as Maisha — “B*tch”

This song plays around the 25:03 mark as Maisha records a track that is seemingly directed at Jemma. It comes after the two get into an argument at the studio following Jemma’s late arrival to their session. Maisha learns that Jemma is late because she met with Gianna, something that greatly upsets Maisha.

Lalah Hathaway, Kole & Ariza — “The Energy”

Lalah Hathaway’s record plays around the 34:46 mark as Emmett helps Kevin pack up for his move to Los Angeles. Kevin shares that he’s excited for the move and the two express that they’ll miss each other. Kevin thanks Emmett for his support and says he’ll always look at him like a big brother.

Amari Noelle as Gianna — “Damn Right”

Around the 38:20 mark, Gianna’s track plays as Jemma listens to it as she helps Jake with her hair. She says she likes the track, but Jake downplays it, saying it “sounds like everything else on the radio.” Jake warns Jemma about working with Gianna as he fears that Gianna’s intentions may not be strictly music.

Gavin Williams — “AL 2 Final Now”

We hear this record around the 40:39 mark as Douda plays a game of chess with Zay watching. Zay questions when he’ll be taught the game, and resorts to saying that he’ll figure it out on his own. Douda uses that as a lesson for the duo to always be willing to figure things out on their own. He also reminds them that they’ll have to sacrifice their queen in certain situations in order to win.

Alonda — “Never Stay Mad”

This song plays around the 41:55 mark as Victor returns home to see all the home decor improvements that Fatima has made. It pushes Victor to ask Fatima if she is ready to start a family with him. She initially has doubts which include the FBI’s investigation into him and his political career, but Victor assures her that he will not leave her alone in the task of raising their family. Fatima agrees to have further conversations about their future family.

Donny Hathaway/David Michael Wyatt — “For All We Know”

David Michael Wyatt’s take on Donny Hathaway’s “For All We Know” plays around the 47:17 mark as the funeral service for Pastor Jackson begins. Douda and his crew try to make an appearance but they’re quickly turned away. Papa gives a tearful speech about his father and how he will remember him.

We saw it coming for a couple of episodes, but Pastor Jackson’s death at the end of episode six still came as a shock in season six of The Chi. Episode seven picks up in the aftermath of his passing as we’re met with a grieving Papa who is struggling to get a hold of feelings after his father’s death. He lashes out at Bakari for his connection to Douda, who is behind Pastor Jackson’s as either Nuk or Zay are behind the killing. He snaps at Kenya who is simply doing her best to be there for him in this harsh time. In the end, Papa is able to collect himself and deliver a powerful speech at Pastor Jackson’s funeral, one that truly honors his father. He also showed love to Bakari, and as for Kenya? Well, we’ll have to see how that plays out next week.

Elsewhere in this episode, Kevin prepares for his move to Los Angeles and has a heartfelt conversation with Emmett as they pack things up. Speaking of Emmett, he and Keisha get closer and closer to their breaking point as she fears the worst for her family following Pastor Jackson’s death and demands that he quickly finds a way to cut ties with Douda. Keisha also has a big breakthrough during therapy where she learns about the meaning behind her controlling tendencies as well as her mother’s view on parenthood. Bakari is left to pick up the pieces in his life after Pastor Jackson’s death who was someone he viewed as a father. It appears an end to his work with Douda is coming in the near future. Lastly, there’s a growing rift in Maisha and Jemma’s music relationship and it’s all thanks to Bakari’s sister and rapper Gianna whom Jemma has taken a musical liking. Though, Gianna’s intentions with Jemma may be different which has Jake on edge.

Here are some of the biggest takeaways that we have after season six’s seventh episode, “Long Live”:

Pastor Jackson’s Death Is Unfortunately The Shift The Community Needed

In many cases, unfortunately, death is an occurrence that can cause someone or a group of people to make a change that is long overdue. We see it in the latest episode of The Chi as Papa reflects on his father’s influence on him in a speech during his funeral. It’s agreed upon, though unspokenly, that Douda is behind Pastor Jackson’s death and it appears that it crossed a line that’s left many saying enough is enough. Keisha is now desperate for detachment and distance from Douda and Emmett has to scramble to make it happen. Bakari seems ready to sever ties with Douda and the rest of his crew. Victor will surely make a move of his own as well. This community allowed Douda to operate as he pleased and they just dealt with the consequences, but it seems like everyone has reached their breaking point which isn’t good for Douda, but great for everyone else.

Emmett And Bakari’s Escapes Will Come At A Big Price

Emmett and Bakari are both plotting their escapes from Douda, with Bakari’s coming right on the heels of Pastor Jackson’s death. Bakari is well aware that Nuk or Zay had something to do with it, so much so that he threatens Nuk with a gun after hearing the news. Emmett’s plan to break free from Douda is underway and they made an agreement to split ways so long as Emmett can buy himself out of Douda’s deal, something that will cost a lot of money for Emmett. Overall, both Emmett and Bakari will have to give up a lot and risk the same amount to break free from Douda. For Emmett, it’s in the literal sense with the money he’ll have to pay back and Bakari will either have to fight his way out of it and complete an insanely risky task. Either, both better be ready to do all it takes to break free if freedom is truly what they seek.

Keisha’s Need For Control Is For Her Surival

Keisha had a huge breakthrough in therapy during this episode. She and her therapist came to the conclusion that her need for control comes from seeing her father make all the decisions in the house without having any consideration for the things her mother wanted. Keisha is also hit with the harsh reality that her mother did not want to have children when she was younger, despite her being happy and loving Keisha and Kevin in the present day. Returning to the point of control, Keisha realizes that this same control comes alive in more ways than one in her relationship with Emmett, but it appears that it’s for her survival more than anything.

Her kidnapping, which still has a traumatic effect on her, was one of the last moments she wasn’t in control so now she has to ensure she has some control over her day-to-day life to ensure she isn’t in that type of danger again. Douda’s presence in their lives makes that matter hard, which is why she tasked Emmett to quickly take care of it. When it seems like he isn’t making progress fast enough, she takes matters into her own hands and meets with Nuk. Emmett isn’t happy with this move and Keisha doesn’t seem to care that he’s upset. What they’ll both soon realize is they’re best in control when they’re on the same page and can work together, as Keisha’s therapist mentioned.

Victor Might Be Underestimating Parenthood

Victor is ready to start a family! He’s extremely in love with Fatima and wants to take that extra step in their relationship. He consults with her friends before asking her, and when he does, she’s a bit taken aback by what he says. She’s always wanted a family and never thought the opportunity for one would present itself, and though she’s ready, she has questions for Victor. She asks about his FBI investigation into Q’s death and whether or not his political career will affect his ability to be an active parent and a supportive partner in raising their future child. Victor brushes off the investigation and assures her that his political career will not be a distraction, but truthfully, I don’t think he really thought about all that parenthood would require from him. Though his desire to take his relationship with Fatima to a new level is admirable, the desire isn’t enough. Some level of preparation and planning has to be in place to ensure that parenthood is not a burden for both Victor and Fatima.

After dropping a cinematic visual in which the two play lovers, SZA and Justin Bieber have shared a new version of “Snooze.”

The new version is a stripped down acoustic imagining of the S.O.S. cut, on which SZA’s vocals remain the same as the ones on the original. Bieber comes in on the second verse, also singing the lyrics of SZA’s original.

Elsewhere, the two harmonize, giving the song a sweet, cozy touch.

Last year, SZA teased a “SZA summer” at the Met Gala, teasing that her album, S.O.S. would be out that summer. Though the album didn’t arrive untiI that December, it manifested into something great for the singer. The song “Kill Bill” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and has since been her most successful single to date. She earned another top 10 single with the original version of “Snooze,” which has since peaked at No. 7.

In addition to Bieber, the song’s accompanying video features a cameo from Benny Blanco, who is seen eating French fries off of SZA’s backside.

Tomorrow (September 15), SZA and Drake are dropping a new collaboration, “Slime You Out,” which will surely end this SZA summer on a high note.

The Philadelphia Eagles beat the Minnesota Vikings 34-28 on Thursday Night Football, moving to 2-0 on the young season as they look to make their way back to the Super Bowl for the second straight year.

While it hasn’t been as dominant a start as Philly fans hoped to the season, with one-score wins over the Patriots and Vikings, it’s still an unblemished opening two weeks. Leading the way on Thursday night was the Eagles rushing attack, as D’Andre Swift ran for 175 yards and a touchdown, following the lead of Jason Kelce and the dominant Philly offensive line. After the game, Kelce and Jalen Hurts (who had 2 rushing touchdowns himself) joined the TNF postgame crew on Amazon to talk about the win — Kelce also conveniently has a documentary about he and his brother, Travis, that just released on Amazon.

As the conversation went on, Tony Gonzalez couldn’t resist using the documentary and his daughter as cover to ask Jason the question on everyone’s mind regarding the Kelce family: Are the rumors about Travis and Taylor Swift dating real? Jason, unsurprisingly, was not about to confirm anything about his brother’s dating life, especially with the biggest pop star on the planet, on a national broadcast, dancing around the question and making a rather incredible call back to his brother’s dating show “Catching Kelce.”

Jalen Hurts gave Kelce an early opportunity to laugh, which I think helped him gather his thoughts on how best to give a non-answer to that question. Jason denied he has any idea as to what his brother is doing in his love life before somewhat awkwardly landing the plane by saying he’s sure Travis will have fun and they’ll just see what happens “with whoever he ends up with.” It’s not a firm denial, but also certainly not confirmation of the rumors, so for now we’ll just have to keep listening to where the gossip winds blow with updates on the Travis-Taylor rumors.

We are a just about a month out from Offset’s second solo album, Set It Off. Ahead of the album, Offset has shared a new single, “FAN.”

On “FAN,” Offset has come to terms with his circle growing smaller, and keeping around a select few who have demonstrated loyalty to him.

“Now I’m over it, thank God I’m over it / Tired of stressin’ about what I can’t control / I think I’m better on my own,” he sings on the song’s opening verse.

As the song details the beginning of a new chapter in Offset’s life, the video symbolizes a rebirth for the former Migo.

In the video, the city is in a state of disaster, as riots break out. Still, Offset remains confident in himself, as he channels one of his idols, Michael Jackson. Offset recreates several moments of Jackson’s career, including reenacting the movie theater scene from the “Thriller” video and posing for his own versions of Jackson’s album covers.

Elsewhere in the video, he is seen dancing in the street, wearing a suit and white gloves, similar to those of Jackson’s wardrobe.

Tonight (September 15), Diddy dropped his much-anticipated R&B album, The Love Album: Off The Grid. On the new album is “Another One Of Me,” a scorching collaboration with 21 Savage, French Montana, and The Weeknd.

This song is particularly special, as Diddy previously teased the song as the last collaboration of The Weeknd’s music career. On the chorus, The Weeknd gives us an empowering, confident farewell.

“Another one of me won’t come around again,” he sings on the song’s chorus, marking the beginning of the end of Abel Tesfaye’s run as The Weeknd.

Elsewhere on the song, the three rappers each deliver verses in which they thrive in their affluence and timelessness, and while The Weeknd may slowly be stepping away from the spotlight, French, 21, and Diddy aren’t letting their reign let up just yet.

The song was first previewed in a Beats commercial last year, sparking much anticipation for the collab.

In the accompanying music video, the four heavy hitters are seen in a digital kingdom, holding the wreckage together as the spit rhymes and deliver vocal bars.

Canadian pop sensation Tate McRae is gearing up for a new era. Tonight (September 15), she shared her new single, “Greedy,” which features her tapping into her confidence, and detailing a sense of self-love she’s fought hard for.

Throughout the song, McRae lets a man know that she’s not going to play any games or put up with insecurity.

“I would want myself / Baby, please believe me / I’ll put you through hell / Just to know me / So sure of yourself / Baby, don’t get greedy / That sh*t won’t end well,” sings McRae on the song’s chorus

In the song’s accompanying video, directed by Aerin Moreno, McRae is seen in an empty hockey arena. Joined by dancers, who, alongside McRae, deliver killer moves choreographed by Sean Bankhead, McRae shows out she’s pulling out all the stops for her upcoming musical endeavors.

“I’m beyond excited to drop ‘Greedy’ and share this new chapter of my music with the world,” said McRae in a statement. “I wrote ‘Greedy’ about having the confidence to know what you want. I feel like this is the first time where people are seeing a feistier and more playful side of me. This song is so unexpected, and I cannot wait for everyone to hear it.”

Doja Cat’s new album, Scarlet, drops next week — but tonight (September 15), she’s shared a scorching new single. Her latest, “Balut,” features her addressing rumors about herself, and setting herself apart from her peers in the game.

On “Balut,” Doja dismisses the rumors about drug use and reminds the haters of her fire pen game that got her this far.

“Is it coke? Is it crack? Is it meth? / What the f*ck do she put in them hits? / I’m the sh*t, you a real piece of sh*t / I am needed, you a real needy b*tch I’m competing, you are incompetent,” raps Doja on one of the song’s verses, over a downtempo, lo-fi beat.

On the song’s chorus, she lets us know just how easily this rap game comes to her. “It’s like taking candy from a baby,” she says.

While this particular album era has proven controversial for Doja, her talent has shown to outweigh her antics. Scarlet’s second single, “Paint The Town Red,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week, making it the first rap song to top the charts in 2023.

A saying in modern-day Hollywood goes something like this: The best American actors are Australian. Over the past two decades, Australian actors have taken over Tinseltown, including “Barbie” star Margot Robbie, Hugh Jackman, Nicole Kidman, Chris and Liam Hemsworth, Samara Weaving, Naomi Watts and Eric Bana.

Many actors have played American characters so often that people in the States have no idea they are Aussies.

Margot Robbie’s American accent is so good that she was cast to play the quintessential American woman, “Barbie,” in this summer’s biggest hit film. She proved herself by playing various American characters, from Harley Quinn to Sharon Tate.

The actor was even the subject of a backlash from Americans who think she should stop using an Australian accent in interviews.

But if you watch footage of her from one of her first acting gigs in the Australian soap opera “Neighbours,” there’s no mistaking that she’s from Dalby, Queensland, and grew up on the Gold Coast.

Prime Video recently shared a clip of her and Liam Hemsworth on the soap opera in 2008 that shows just how strong both actors’ accents were before coming to Hollywood. Hemsworth starred as Josh Taylor on “Neighbours” from 2007 to 2008, and Robbie played Donna Freedman from 2008 to 2011.

Some may attribute Robbie’s strong accent to her character, but that doesn’t appear to be the case. Robbie has admitted that her accent was so strong during that time that the producers on “Neighbours” asked her to tone it down.
