Sombr’s ‘Crushing’ Is A Catchy Highlight From His Hotly Anticipated New Album, ‘I Barely Know Her’

Sombr is emerging as a star, with a profile big enough to land a Tonight Show performance slot.

It’s all coming together as he releases his new album, I Barely Know Her, today (August 22). Among the highlights is “Crushing,” an immediately catchy pop-rock number that’s a little The Killers-esque.

Sombr talked about new music in a recent interview, saying:

“There’s always a part of having ‘hits’ that puts pressure on you, but I try to block that out. Every time I’m feeling it, I remember why I got into it and why I made those songs [‘Undressed’ and ‘Back To Friends’]. I didn’t make them to have hits; I made them because I was feeling something and I needed an escape. I needed to pour my thoughts and feelings out, and when I put them out, I received so many messages and people telling me after shows that the music has been therapeutic for them, which is exactly what it was for me.”

Listen to “Crushing” above and find Sombr’s upcoming tour dates below.

Zach Bryan And Kings Of Leon Reunite For A Second Collaboration, ‘We’re Onto Something’

Before Zach Bryan and Kings Of Leon released their recent collaboration “Bowery,” Bryan called it the “honor of my life.” It was a Bryan song featuring Kings Of Leon, and now Bryan has returned the favor by hopping on another track, this time with the band having the primary credit.

Today (August 22), they shared “We’re Onto Something,” a breezy, harmonica-laden Southern rocker.

This comes shortly after Bryan revealed that a new project titled With Heaven On Top is due for next January. Earlier this year, Bryan also teased an album called Motorbreath, sharing some spoken-word audio from Matthew McConaughey in which he says, “This is not a film about a band. This is a film about a boy from Oklahoma, a boy who joined the Navy with a love of writing. That writing connected with people — a lot of people. This film is about a group of best friends taking a two-week motorcycle ride across America while recording one final major-label album. Oh, and the title of the film, you ask? Motorbreath.”

As for Kings Of Leon, they’re fresh off the release of their 2024 album Can We Please Have Fun. “Bowery” and “We’re Onto Something” are the band’s first new songs since the album.

The 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Lineup Word Search Is Live And Already Has Fans Ready For November

tyler the creator
Getty Image

For the past couple of years, Tyler The Creator — who never does anything the “normal” way, if he can help it — has shared the lineup for his Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival in a truly original and interactive way. Rather than sharing the flyer outright like any other music festival, he always gives fans a chance to figure out the lineup with the help of a word game. Last year, it was a crossword. This year, he’s trying something new.

The 2025 Camp Flog Gnaw Carnival lineup is being revealed via an interactive word search that went live a few minutes ago, and fans are already clamoring for not only the unscrambled lineup, but also, for November 15-16, when Tyler and friends will once again take over Dodger Stadium for what has become one of the best festivals in music.

On a cursory glance as I try to write this, I see Tems, 2 Chainz, Larry June & The Alchemist, and Samara Cyn — so, yeah, I’m already queueing up for tickets. You can check out the word search here, or wait a couple of hours, and the unscrambled flyer will likely be up at CampFlogGnaw.com. We’ll update this post when that happens, but in the meantime, down the rabbit hole I go.

‘Good Fortune’: Everything To Know About Aziz Ansari’s Directorial Debut With Keanu Reeves And More

Good Fortune top
YouTube

Aziz Ansari picked up some directing experience with his TV series Master Of None. Now, he has plied that trade to his feature film directorial debut with the upcoming Good Fortune.

He has quite the cast helping him towards rookie success, too. Aside from himself, he stars alongside Seth Rogen and Keanu Reeves, the latter of whom plays a meddling angel (a role apparently intense enough to leave him injured). For Ansari, Good Fortune is his first time acting in a movie in a long while: His most recent film credit before this (aside from a voice role in The Bob’s Burgers Movie and appearing as himself in the documentary The Problem With Apu) dates way back to 2014, with Date And Switch.

This comes after the movie that was supposed to be Ansari’s directorial debut, Being Mortal, was shut down due to an on-set complaint involving Bill Murray.

Ahead of the Good Fortune‘s release, keep reading for everything you need to know before it comes to theaters.

Plot

The official synopsis reads, “In Good Fortune, a well-meaning but rather inept angel named Gabriel (Keanu Reeves) meddles in the lives of a struggling gig worker (Aziz Ansari) and a wealthy venture capitalist (Seth Rogen).”

Ansari told Collider:

“Films that deal with issues about economic depression are a staple from Grapes Of Wrath to Trading Places. Given what’s happening these days, especially with all the modern elements involved, it felt ripe for us to do a film about today. I hope we pulled it off. I think we did?”

Cast

The cast is led by Seth Rogen, Aziz Ansari, Keke Palmer, Sandra Oh, and Keanu Reeves.

Ansari told Men’s Journal about how he got comfortable working with a star as big as Reeves, saying, “I was like, ‘Hey man, we got to hang out a few times, so I’m not freaked out being around you. You know what I mean?’ So he was like, ‘I get what you mean.’ So, we hung out, and he came over to my house. I made him Indian food, and we hung out for a while, and he told me all these stories. And then we went to dinner a couple of times, and I tried to really spend time with him to get to know him a little bit so I could become comfortable around him.”

Release Date

The film is set to hit theaters on October 17.

Chance The Rapper Wanders The Wilderness In His Meditative ‘Just A Drop’ Video With Jay Electronica

Chance The Rapper’s long-awaited album, Star Line, has finally arrived. The album is already garnering the sort of praise his first album, The Big Day, did not, with listeners proclaiming that the Chicago rapper is “back” — even though he never actually went anywhere.

The rollout continued today with a meditative video for “Just A Drop,” Chance’s reunion with New Orleans rapper Jay Electronica, and a return to the religious themes of their Coloring Book collab, “How Great.” The video sees Chance wandering the wilderness like Old Testament Hebrews as he implores the Man Upstairs for “just a drop of the blood.” It makes more sense if you grew up in Black church like Chance did, but it still displays his unparalleled rhyme prowess and undiminished chemistry between Chance and his collaborator, who recaps the trial of Jesus Christ in his own verse.

After canceling the tour for The Big Day back in 2019, Chance has announced his first official tour since then in support of Star Line. It kicks off in Houston on September 26th; you can find more info at Chance’s website.

Star Line is out now via Chance The Rapper LLC. You can find more info here.

Toro Y Moi Reimagines His Latest Album With ‘Unerthed: Hole Erth Unplugged’

Leave it to Toro Y Moi to put a unique spin on the modern deluxe album trend. Last year, he dropped Hole Erth, a nostalgic review of his suburban teen years with an odd combo of indie and rap sensibilities.

This September, he’s reissuing the project as Unerthed: Hole Erth Unplugged. As its MTV-inspired title suggests, the remix album will feature all-new arrangements of Hole Erth songs like “CD-R” and “Daria” — a la the Y2K favorite, Unplugged, which is fitting for an album so entrenched in that strange and magical time period.

In the press release, Toro explains why he went this direction, saying, “The idea to begin this project came while listening to Nirvana’s MTV Unplugged record. I love how the rearrangement brought out so many intricacies of their songwriting and gave context to the original recordings and the decisions made… Americana has always been a major theme in my music. I asked myself, what could be more edgy than Rap-Rock turned Alt-Country? Hole Erth and Unerthed was meant to be a dual album from the beginning, the vision is complete. Enjoy…”

In addition to the announcement, he’s released the first “unplugged” song from the upcoming project, “CD-R (unerthed).” You can check that out above.

BigXThaPlug’s ‘I Hope You’re Happy’ Trailer Teases His Darius Rucker Collaboration

bigxthaplug.jpg

In a little over 12 hours from this writing, Dallas rap star BigXthaPlug will release his third studio album, I Hope You’re Happy. The album drops after a month-long rollout that revealed the depths of its country music inspirations via singles with Bailey Zimmerman, Shaboozey, Ella Langley, and more. The title track was revealed to feature country pioneer Darius Rucker, and today, BigX gave fans their first listen to the collaboration via its trailer, which he posted on Instagram.

“I hope you’re happy with somebody new,” Rucker croons. “The way that I was when I had you / And I hope he won’t break your heart / And waste all your time / I hope you’re happy with the way you broke mine.” Meanwhile, the accompanying visual largely consists of a closeup on a laughing woman’s face, which ultimately resolves into a long shot of her sitting on the porch of a burning house — an impactful, if wildly unsubtle metaphor for the heartbreak described on the song.

Although I Hope You’re Happy features a slew of country artists, including Jelly Rolly, Post Malone, and Morgan Wallen, BigX won’t call it a country album. “I wouldn’t say my version of country music is country music,” he said in a recent interview. “It’s kind of mixing the two sounds. I’m rapping on a bunch of country-style beats, but it’s not just country. I’m not on there sounding like no cowboy; I’m rapping. I’m just doing it from a country standpoint.”

I Hope You’re Happy is out on 8/22 via 600 Entertainment/UnitedMasters. You can get more info here.

The Marías’ María Zardoya Will Explore Love With Not For Radio, A New Solo Endeavor

The Marías have been kicking ass over the past few years, but now the band’s María Zardoya wants to try something different: She just launched Not For Radio, a new solo endeavor.

Announcing the project on social media yesterday (August 20), Zardoya wrote:

“i made a solo project @notforradio

don’t worry, the band will be here forever. i love making music as the marías, and nothing will ever change that. but i wanted to challenge myself to make a project that resonated with me in a different way. there are layers to who we all are as individuals, and this is another layer of me, another flower in the garden. welcome to my alternate reality.”

She also shared an audio snippet titled “Message 1,” in which she says, “Hi, it’s Maria. Welcome to Not For Radio, my alternate reality. I wanted to explore on my own what it meant to love and to lose. I keep asking myself the question: Is love worth the pain? If there’s a pain that only love can cause, the ache of someone’s absence, of knowing that they once lived there, inside your home, tangible and tender, but now reside only inside your memory. I don’t know. What do you think? Is love worth the pain? I’m ready to find out.”

This comes days after Zardoya announced a new partnership with YSL Beauty.
