Pat McAfee Has Paid Over A Million Dollars For Those Aaron Rodgers Interviews

One of the defining features of Pat McAfee’s daily show is his ability to get sit downs with some pretty big names in the worlds of sports and entertainment. A new piece by Andrew Marchand of the New York Post dives into two of McAfee’s long-standing weekly guests, Aaron Rodgers and Nick Saban, both of whom get compensated for appearing on the show.

Rodgers makes appearances on the show that draw attention and, on occasion, scrutiny, especially when it comes to his thoughts on COVID vaccines. He used his most recent appearance to challenge Travis Kelce and former NIAID director Anthony Fauci to a debate over vaccines against himself and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. And thanks to Marchand — who received confirmation from McAfee — we learned that the future Hall of Fame quarterback has made at least seven figures from this arrangement.

Rodgers is receiving more than seven figures per year to come on the show each week, according to sources, while Saban is in that vaunted neighborhood.

“Aaron has made over $1,000,000 with us, for sure,” McAfee told The Post over direct message.

Per Marchand, this happens in part because McAfee dips into the lucrative, $85 million deal he signed when he joined ESPN. It’s worth mentioning that these are essentially appearance fees, and as Marchand notes, individuals being paid by outlets for exclusive interviews is not a new thing. And on the most recent episode of his show, McAfee addressed (and confirmed) the report directly, saying that he is simply compensating those who appear on his show and have helped him become successful.

“If somebody is gonna make money for us,” McAfee said, “that person is gonna reap the benefit from it.

“I am completely ok with everything that was said,” McAfee continued. “And I am completely ok being known as the guy that appreciates people’s time, effort, and things that happen for us.”

Still, even beyond the fact that Rodgers is getting compensated for appearances on an ESPN platform in which he spread anti-vaxx rhetoric, this does highlight the uniqueness of McAfee’s arrangement with the Worldwide Leader. The company has a gigantic journalism arm and a colleague of those folks pays for face-to-face time with the individuals they cover. Plus in the specific cases of Rodgers and Saban, the network has a financial stake in both the NFL and college football (particularly SEC football), and prominent individuals in both leagues whose words drive the discourse around them are getting paid to come on the network and say whatever they want, thereby playing a major role in shaping how ESPN covers those sports.

Who Is The Legendary Bass Reeves From Taylor Sheridan’s Upcoming ‘Lawmen’ Series?

The Taylor Sheridan-produced Lawmen is heading to Paramount+ next month, and this time, he’s tackling a real-life story.

Created by Chad Feehan, Lawmen tells the story of Bass Reeves, one of the first Black U.S. Marshals, and his various internal and external struggles with the intense job. The show stars David Oyelowo as the title character, alongside Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, Grantham Coleman, Demi Singleton, and Lauren E. Banks.

The real Bass Reeves was born into slavery in Arkansas in 1838. At some point during the American Civil War, Reeves escaped and supposedly stayed with various Native tribes in Oklahoma before returning to Arkansas. Because of his knowledge of the area and ability to speak several other languages, U.S. Marshal James F. Fagan appointed Reeves as the first Black deputy to serve west of the Mississippi. Eventually, Reeves became the deputy U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Arkansas before being transferred to Paris, Texas.

While working as an officer, Reeves killed 14 outlaws and claimed to have arrested 3,000 felons (including his own son!!). Reeves served in various parts of the Midwest before he retired at age 70 in Muskogee. He died at age 71 of a kidney disease.

Lawmen will chronicle the ferocious life of Reeves and how he managed to become one of the most “legendary lawmen in the Old West.” The series will debut on Paramount+ on November 5th.

Whoopi Goldberg Casually Revealed That She Met The Pope While Teasing ‘Sister Act 3’

Whoopi Goldberg has been missing from The View this week, and co-host Joy Behar has teased that the mysterious reason for Whoopi’s absence will be revealed soon. Well, now we know.

Goldberg revealed on Instagram that she’s in the Vatican City where she not only met Pope Francis, but might also be working on a little movie called Sister Act 3. While riding in the backseat of a car outside St. Peter’s Basilica, Goldberg called her Vatican trip “the most exquisite experience” before teasing a return to one of her most iconic roles.

Via Entertainment Weekly:

“Maybe, since you’re seeing everything, you’re figuring out what I’m doing here, but picture Sister Act and all the nuns standing here, waiting for the Pope to come out,” she teased. “Maybe that’s going to happen in the new movie. You don’t know. You never know, but we are in Rome, and I am in Vatican City. What could I be doing? Why could I be here? We’ll find out.”

After teasing Sister Act 3, Whoopi casually revealed her meeting with Pope Francis.

“So, yeah, remember I said I was here and we’re looking at all these different things? I think I forgot to mention, I met the Pope today,” Goldberg said. “It was pretty remarkable.”

As for the potential Sister Act sequel Goldberg has been working with producer Tyler Perry to get the film off the ground. Judging by her holy visit, there’s sure to be some big news on that front when Whoopi returns to The View on Monday October 16.

Bizarre optical illusion has people either seeing a car door or the beach

Ancient sage Obi-Wan Kenobi once remarked, “Your eyes can deceive you, don’t trust them.” Well, he’s right, kinda.

Our eyes bring in information and it’s our brain’s job to decipher the image and determine what we’re seeing. But our brains aren’t always correct. In fact, sometimes they can be so wrong we wonder if we are accurately interpreting reality at all.

After all, our brain can only label things if it knows that they are. If you lived on a deserted island your whole life and a cow showed up on the beach, you’d have no idea what to label it.

The latest baffling image that’s making people across the internet doubt their senses is a picture tweeted out by Twitter user nayem. “If you can see a beach, ocean sky, rocks and stars then you are an artist,” the comment reads.

But some people who see it also think it looks like a car door. What do you see?

beach, car door, rusty door

If your brain told you the picture is of a lovely evening laying on the beach then you’re definitely an optimist. But, according to the person who posted it, the photo is of the bottom of a rusted out car door. Not very romantic, is it?

art, comedy, sense of humor

Here’s what Twitter users thought about the illusion.

twitter trolls, twitter responses, twitter fights

This guy must be hungry.

viral images, social media, common questions

This guy is having flashbacks to 2015.

sense of humor, learning skills, spacial relationships

My wife surprised her coworkers when she came out as trans. Then they surprised her.

Society, pay attention. This is important.

My wife, Zoe, is transgender. She came out to us — the kids and me — last summer and then slowly spread her beautiful feminine wings with extended family, friends, and neighbors.

A little coming out here, a little coming out there — you know how it is.

It’s been a slow, often challenging process of telling people something so personal and scary, but pretty much everyone has been amazing.

However, she dreaded coming out at the office.

She works at a large technology company, managing a team of software developers in a predominantly male office environment. She’s known many of her co-workers and employees for 15 or so years. They have called her “he” and “him” and “Mr.” for a very long time. How would they handle the change?

While we have laws in place in Ontario, Canada, to protect the rights of transgender employees, it does not shield them from awkwardness, quiet judgment, or loss of workplace friendships. Your workplace may not become outright hostile, but it can sometimes become a difficult place to go to every day because people only tolerate you rather than fully accept you.

But this transition needed to happen, and so Zoe carefully crafted a coming out email and sent it to everyone she works with.

The support was immediately apparent; she received about 75 incredibly kind responses from coworkers, both local and international.

She then took one week off, followed by a week where she worked solely from home. It was only last Monday when she finally went back to the office.

First day back at work! I asked if I could take a “first day of school” type picture with her lunchbox. She said no. Spoilsport.

Despite knowing how nice her colleagues are and having read so many positive responses to her email, she was understandably still nervous.

Hell, I was nervous. I made her promise to text me 80 billion times with updates and was more than prepared to go down there with my advocacy pants on if I needed to (I might be a tad overprotective).

And that’s when her office pals decided to show the rest of us how to do it right.

She got in and found that a couple of them had decorated her cubicle to surprise her:

LGBTQ, coming out, work

Butterflies! Streamers! Rainbows! OMG!

And made sure her new name was prominently displayed in a few locations:

empathy, employment, understanding

They got her a beautiful lily with a “Welcome, Zoe!” card:

coworkers, mental health, community

And this tearjerker quote was waiting for her on her desk:

Oscar Wilde, job, employment

To top it all off, a 10 a.m. “meeting” she was scheduled to attend was actually a coming out party to welcome her back to work as her true self — complete with coffee and cupcakes and handshakes and hugs.

acceptance, friendship, relationships

(I stole one, and it was delicious.)

NO, I’M NOT CRYING. YOU’RE CRYING.

I did go to my wife’s office that day. But instead of having my advocacy pants on, I had my hugging arms ready and some mascara in my purse in case I cried it off while thanking everyone.

I wish we lived in a world where it was no big deal to come out.

Sadly, that is not the case for many LGBTQ people. We live in a world of bathroom bills and “religious freedom” laws that directly target the members of our community. We live in a world where my family gets threats for daring to speak out for trans rights. We live in a world where we can’t travel to certain locations for fear of discrimination — or worse.

So when I see good stuff happening — especially when it takes place right on our doorstep — I’m going to share it far and wide. Let’s normalize this stuff. Let’s make celebrating diversity our everyday thing rather than hating or fearing it.

Chill out, haters. Take a load off with us.

It’s a lot of energy to judge people, you know. It’s way more fun to celebrate and support them for who they are.

Besides, we have cupcakes.
