‘Princess Bride’ star Mandy Patinkin shared a moving detail about the film with a grieving woman

There was an emotional exchange on TikTok between two people who lost their fathers to cancer. One was actor Mandy Patinkin, the other was TikTok user Amanda Webb.

Patinkin currently stars on “The Good Fight” but one of his most famous roles is Inigo Montoya in the 1987 classic “The Princess Bride.” In the film, Montoya is a swordsman who is obsessed with confronting a six-fingered man who killed his father.

Webb recently lost her father Dan to mantle cell lymphoma. She had heard a rumor that Patinkin used his father’s death from cancer as motivation in a pivotal scene where he confronts the six-fingered Count Rugen (Christopher Guest) in a duel.

Rugen tells Montoya he will give him anything he wants after being bested by Montoya who passionately replies, “I want my father back, you son of a bitch.”

Webb’s father was a big fan of Montoya’s performance in the film so she reached out to TikTok to learn if the rumor was true.

“I saw on the internet the rumor that when Mandy Patinkin said that line, he was thinking of his own father who had passed away from cancer,” Webb said while crying. “And it was a very raw emotion. Ever since then, it’s kind of really stuck with me.”

Patinkin, who is a TikTok user, heard that the woman had reached out to him and he gave a heartfelt response.

“First of all, your dad is taking care of you,” he said. “Secondly, it is true, 100% true. I went outside in this castle and walked around and I kept talking to my dad.”

“The minute I read the script, I knew, I said to [his wife], I said, ‘I’m going to do this part because in my mind, if I get the six-fingered guy, that means I killed the cancer that killed my dad and I’ll get to visit my dad,” he said.

“That moment was coming, and I went and I played that scene with Chris [Guest], and then I went back out there and talked to my dad,” Patinkin said.

He then told Webb that she has the power to talk to her father, too.

“And so, you can talk to your dad anytime you want, anywhere you want,” he said. “If you could somehow let me know your dad’s name because I say prayers for anyone I’ve ever known. Now I feel like I know you, and therefore I know your dad, and I will list his name in my prayers every day, and they make me feel like they’re with me, wherever I go, and I’d like your dad to hang out with me.”

Webb responded with a video where she’s so emotional she can hardly speak.

What is ‘body grief’? Women share what it’s like to mourn their former selves.

It was only yesterday when a friend and I (two women in the 30-to-40-year-old range) were having a conversation, and this friend made more than one wistful comment about being “skinny and sexy” once upon a time.

Her self deprecating jokes were so casual and nonchalant that actual sadness underneath was almost unnoticeable. Almost.

Except I did notice it, because I have it too. That same sense of unease at being a different size that my former younger self. I have it, my friend has it, and nearly every adult woman has it to some degree.

Now we even have a name for it—”body grief.

Author Jayne Mattingly, who first coined the term, defines body grief as “the universal experience of disillusionment, sorrow, and loss that comes with simply existing in a body.”

Body grief basically sums up all the anger, loss, frustration, sorrow, and general sense of mourning that so many women feel from the “loss” of their former body, and the former self it represents.

Body grief can manifest in a myriad of ways—growing older, having children, chronic illness or injury, disability, reactions to medications, huge life changes, trauma, stress. And while it often denotes weight gain, plenty of women who lose a lot of weight can feel body grief too.

Sami Rose, an Australian-based counselor and body image coach, spoke about her own challenges with body grief, especially after reaching her goal weight, then gaining the weight back.

“I’d spent all of my teens and all of my 20s having this number in my head, and this body in my head, that I thought was gonna solve all of my problems,” she said.

@sami.rose_ Replying to @eneesece letting go of the thin ideal can be really difficult, and its okay to miss your old body or old life, but i hope this strategy helps shift your perspective 💖 #bodyacceptance #bodygrief #bodyimagecounsellor #counsellor #bodyimagecoach ♬ original sound – Sami Rose • Counsellor + Coach

After losing about 55 pounds, getting all the compliments from her friends, even being told that her abs were “goals,” Rose was still left with the same insecurities. For her, body grief meant “letting go of the thin ideal” and “griev[ing] the notion of what a good body meant to me.”

Rose’s experience is not uncommon. Countless women are sharing their stories of body grief in a new TikTok trend titled #bodygrief, which has reached nearly 880,000 views.

Women like Aleah Elizabeth, who went from being “super skinny” most of her life to gaining 60-70 pounds after taking birth control.

@aleahhelizabeth Its hard ass thing to go through #gainingweight #beingskinny #fy ♬ original sound – aleahelizabeth💗

“I thought I was gonna be a happy girl because the boys like girls who are thick,” she said. “But as I kept gaining the weight, I literally hated my body more and more and more…And then you gain so much weight and everybody around you notices it and talks about it, and then starts to make you feel bad about it. It is the worst thing I think I ever went through in my life.”

Or Eliana Hope, who, two months into postpartum, cried in an REI store after realizing “the body that used to take me up mountain trails is now stretched and loose in all the places it used to be strong.”

Honestly, the list goes on and on.

@olivepfox Some thoughts on body grief and reconciling disability #crps #crpsawareness #complexregionalpainsyndrome #crpswarrior #chronicpain #disabled ♬ original sound – olive fox

And just what are we supposed to do about this body grief? For starters, Rose suggests writing down a list of all the things you appreciate about yourself that are completely unrelated to your body.

“I think that can be really special in just rebuilding your identity and proving to yourself that you’re more than just a body,” she says. “That your appearance is a part of you, but it’s not the most important part of you.”

But also, like with all forms of grief, sometimes sharing what you’re going through in a safe space with other people who have been through it, or are going through it too, really helps you process those difficult feelings. And that’s why this TikTok movement is so important. No one should have to go through it alone.

Denzel Curry And Kenny Mason Aren’t ‘Sked’ On Their New Collab

Denzel Curry continues to come through with the heat. Today (September 15), Curry has dropped his new single, — a collab with Kenny Mason called “Sked.”

The song’s title is a pronunciation of the word “scared,” and Curry makes it known that he’s not afraid of any opps. But rather, they’re the ones who should be on alert.

“I said what I said, b*tch, you sked, b*tch, you sked / I don’t go to sleep without a Glock by my bed / I don’t say no names ’cause them boys might be the feds / I’m about my family, God, business and my bread / And I said what I said, b*tch, you sked, b*tch, you sked,” raps Curry on his verse.

Mason then pops in, reiterating the message, making it known that he’s not here for any funny business.

“Gimme the loot, shoot, bullets at enemy troops / I got more arms than a centipede but he still’ll get beat like he sendin’ me loops,” raps Mason.

In the song’s accompanying video, Curry becomes a work of art through colorful animations. The video is about a minute shorter than the actual song, and Mason and his verse are absent from the video.

J Balvin And DJ Khaled Reimagine An Usher Classic On Their New Collab, ‘Dientes’

J Balvin is closing out the summer with a banger, and this time, he’s reimagining a classic. On his new single, “Dientes,” Balvin joins forces with DJ Khaled and Usher to add a fresh Latin spin to Usher’s 2004 hit single, “Yeah.”

The song features almost the same instrumental as “Yeah,” but with a sped-up bass loop, and the addition of new drums, giving the song a more thrilling, rushing vibe.

On the song, Balvin finds himself hypnotized by the vibrance of a lady he meets.

“You and I have something pending / You arrived and changed the vibe / Wveryone looks at you / The dark disco, and you shine / You’re in yours and I’m in mine,” raps Balvin.

The addicting chorus, “Enséñame los dientes,” which means, “show me your teeth,” is sure to have fans smiling.

Additionally, Usher drops a new verse of his own, giving this collaboration — as well as his own song — fresh new flair.

In the accompanying video, Balvin, Usher, and Khaled are seen dancing on a colorful floor, jamming out with fans, juxtaposed with scenes of pure Latinx joy in the streets. A throwback magazine cover featuring Usher displays just how well he and his music have aged.

Margot Robbie Revealed Kate McKinnon’s Weird ‘Barbie’ Character Was Inspired By David Bowie

If the movie’s soundtrack was of any indication, Barbie was heavily influenced by music, which, in a way, posed itself as a main character in the record-breaking film. In a new featurette for Barbie (filmed before the SAG-AFRTA strike), the cast and crew of the movie revealed that a notable character was inspired by a legendary musician.

Margot Robbie revealed that the Weird Barbie character, played by Kate McKinnon was based on David Bowie.

“Greta described Weird Barbie in the script as a cross between David Bowie and a hairless cat,” said Robbie in the featurette, which was first shared by Entertainment Weekly. “It is so strangely accurate.”

While McKinnon’s character’s hair appears to be a bit tattered and her face drawn on, Gerwig noted that this was an indication of a well-loved toy.

“Weird Barbie is truly the Barbie you’d play with too much,” said Gerwig. “You’d brush out her hair and then you decided you want to cut it, then you’d see what happens if you light it on fire and draw all over her face. You put her in the splits and try to change her clothes. I had this idea like, ‘Well, we have to have a Barbie that represents that fate of so many Barbies’. I wanted her to be funny and wise.”

Barbie is available to watch now via digital and video on demand platforms.

Gen Z and Millenials reveal their red flags, and here are the folks who aren’t getting dates

The numbers are stacked against young men when it comes to finding love on dating apps. They outnumber women 2 to 1 on the platforms, making the competition pretty tough. A new study finds that they’ll make things even harder for themselves if they admit to listening to the “Joe Rogan Experience” podcast in their profiles.

A new poll by Change Research surveyed 1,033 registered voters between 18 and 34 to ask about their political leanings and dating preferences. It discovered that women’s biggest red flag when looking for a relationship is a date revealing they’re a MAGA Republican, with 76% of women saying it’s a turnoff. The second biggest red flag for women is people who “have no hobbies” (66%), and the third is those who say “All Lives Matter” (60%).

Fifty-five percent of women say it’s a big turnoff for potential partners to listen to the Rogan podcast. They also have a problem with people who “refuse” to see the “Barbie” movie (53%).

When it comes to men between the ages of 18 and 34, the biggest turn-off is people who identify as “communist” (64%), and they also have problems with those who have no hobbies (60%) as well as MAGA Republicans (59%).

Other turnoffs for men include being interested in astrology (41%) and saying “All Lives Matter” (41%).

Interestingly, people with no hobbies are a big red flag to people of both men and women. The common assumption is that people with no real hobbies or interests will rely on their partners to bring fun into their lives. Also, a lack of hobbies can mean a person lacks passion and may not have many personal goals.

When it comes to having too many hobbies, both men and women agree that it isn’t a big problem. The poll found that only 8% of women believe that having too many hobbies is a red flag and 6% of men agreed.

change research, dating red flags, dating green flags

When it comes to green flags in a relationship, both men and women overwhelmingly agreed that they are very interested in potential partners who read. Ninety-five percent of women and 91% of men saw reading as a green flag. So, if you’re crafting an online dating profile, you may want to show some photos of you reading a book or list some of the books you’ve read recently.

They also agree that they are interested in people who research the best deals and rates before buying things. Eighty-eight percent of women listed being a smart consumer as a green flag, and men were close behind at 85%. Men (63%) and women (51%) also agreed it’s a green flag when someone looks better in person than in photos online.

change research, dating red flags, dating green flags

Those of you looking to be in the dating pool during the upcoming presidential election should know there is a discrepancy between the genders regarding political affiliation among the 18 to 34 crowd. Although most people in this age range are moderate to liberal politically, there is a significant difference between genders.

Frasier Crane Returns To Boston For Some Beer In Paramount+’s ‘Frasier’ Reboot Trailer

Have your tossed salads and scrambled eggs been lacking lately? It’s okay, it’s been a while since Frasier has been around to make his snooty remarks, but he’s back, baby! The Frasier reboot is heading to Paramount+ this fall, and we finally have a new look at Frasier Crane as he makes his triumphant return to Boston. Isn’t it great to go where everybody knows your name?

Kelsey Grammer once again stars as Frasier (it’s been a long time coming) who heads to Boston to surprise his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), who seems a little reluctant to bond with his father. The cast also includes Nicholas Lyndhurst as Frasier’s pal Alan, Jess Salgueiro as Freddy’s roommate/love interest Eve, and Anders Keith as Frasier’s nephew David. Here is the official synopsis:

Same Frasier. New skyline. The new series follows Dr. Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) in the next chapter of his life as he returns to Boston with new challenges to face, new relationships to forge, and an old dream or two to finally fulfill. Fraiser has re-entered the building!

What are some Boston-centric things that Fraiser will get up to after all this time away? Perhaps he will make a stop by a certain bar to see what Ted Danson is up to these days. Or hit up Fenway park? Maybe it’s too soon.

The first two episodes of Frasier will premiere on Paramount+ on Thursday, October 12th.

Don Jr. Is So Very Extremely Mad That He’s Trending On Twitter Due To ‘Crackhead’ Hunter Biden Being Indicted

Donald Trump Jr. must feel like he can’t win. Like much of the far right, he’s obsessed with Hunter Biden’s laptop, and he recently grew very frustrated that the “coke in the White House” led to a bunch of Don Jr. jokes. This talk usually follows his animated manner of speaking during cable news appearances and his occasional glassy-eyed and twitchy rants, too.

On Thursday, it seems that the eldest boy signed himself up for a good time when reports came down about Hunter actually being indicted, not for the laptop but on felony gun charges. According to NPR, this is the case because a pending plea deal collapsed, and now, the 2024 election could be marred by yet another criminal trial. From NPR:

Special counsel David Weiss charged Biden with three counts: two for knowingly making false written claims that he was not an unlawful user of, or addicted to, any stimulant, narcotic drug or other controlled substance when purchasing a firearm. There is another charge for illegal possession of a firearm. This is in connection with a gun he bought in 2018.

What a mess. Again, Don Jr. must have been ecstatic at the news, yet he appeared crestfallen to find that he was the presidential son who is trending. “You can’t make this stuff up anymore. Hunter Biden gets indicted yet somehow I’m the one that’s trending here on Twitter,” he complained. “[S]ame thing happened when they found coke in the White House last month. It had to be mine, not the most famous crackhead in America who was actually there.”

Don Jr. also had a little conspiracy theory about another Trump indictment coming soon.

However, not everyone sees the same subjects trending on Twitter, and theoretically, the “what’s happening” algorithm shows topics based upon your previously-engaged topics. So, Don Jr. might not really be “trending” as much as he believes, but it’s still notable that he’s pitching a fit. A few snowflakes began flying in response…

When Does Ahsoka Take Place In The Star Wars Timeline?

With Ahsoka riding high off a wave of positive reactions to its latest blockbuster episode featuring Barbie star Ariana Greenblatt as a younger version of the titular character, an understandable question is just when does the new Disney+ series take place in the Star Wars timeline.

First introduced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series, Ahsoka spent the considerable bulk of her adventures in a time between the prequel films Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith. The character later appeared in the follow-up animated series, Star Wars: Rebels, which takes place just a few years before the original Star Wars movie A New Hope. However, things take a jump in Ahsoka’s new live-action series.

Like The Mandalorian, the events of Ahsoka occur roughly five years after Return of the Jedi. The Emperor has been seemingly defeated, and the Empire has been reduced to factionalized remnants as the New Republic has become the governing force in the galaxy. As both Season 3 of The Mandalorian and Ahsoka establish, that transition is tenuous at best.

Imperial remnants are determined to restore the Empire to its former glory, and that mission is at the center of Ahsoka, as the titular Jedi contends with dark forces bent on finding the ruthless Grand Admiral Thrawn. Should he return, the cunning Imperial strategist could prove a grave threat to the fledgling New Republic.

Ahsoka streams new episodes Tuesday on Disney+.

Cardi B Thinks Joe Budden ‘Has An Issue’ With Her After His Harsh Criticism Of ‘Bongos’

Joe Budden may have finally gotten a plaque for his big hit of the 2000s, “Pump It Up,” but it seems he’s still better known for his biting criticism. His latest target is Cardi B’s new single “Bongos,” which features Megan Thee Stallion and a dembow beat that showcases Cardi’s Latin roots. However, Budden didn’t think much of the song, prompting Cardi to muse on Instagram, “I just feel like he has an issue with me.”

On the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast, the former rapper said “Bongos” sounds like “a science project” and criticized it for being formulaic (despite the song sounding like little else in hip-hop). “This beat is undeniable because it’s already worked,” he allowed, but said, “We gonna put two of our biggest women rappers on it, talking they normal s*it, but I don’t think this song is gonna work at all.”

He then went a step further, declaring, “I hate the song. It’s not better than any of the songs like it. ‘WAP,’ ‘Up,’ it’s not better than Cardi B [features]. This is Cardi getting ready to follow-up her debut album… They not gonna spend the money to keep this rolling into the fourth and first quarter… This sounds like two women who can’t make a song.” This is a 180-degree reversal from his previous comments about Cardi (although they were consistent with comments about Megan`).

In response, Cardi pointed out her belief that Budden is being hypocritical; while he’s always quick to deman other artists’ work, he takes offense at any criticism of his own work and business ethics. “It was beyond the critique of ‘Bongos,’” she noted. “When Mal and Rory say f*ck sh*t about you, you get so defensive and you want to clear it up. You came at Taxstone because Taxstone said something about you. You expect people to understand you and you expect people to take your side.”

Cardi’s not the only rapper to have issues with Budden. In 2019 and 2020 he feuded with Logic until apologizing in the wake of Logic’s revelations about suicidal thoughts. Last year, Budden said he hated Earl Sweatshirt’s new album, to which Earl responded by laughing at him, attributing his vitriol to bitterness that his own music has done … well … horribly. He also apologized to Megan Thee Stallion over making insensitive jokes about her getting shot by Tory Lanez.

And hey, at least none of those rappers were ever accused of violently beating women or sexual harassment of former employees. I’m also willing to bet he’s wrong about “Bongos,” which was never meant to be “WAP” in the first place.
