James Harden Skipped Sixers Media Day In His Continued Effort To Get Traded

With Damian Lillard and Jrue Holiday being traded to the Bucks and Celtics respectively, the Eastern Conference is now loaded at the top, with those two teams as the heavy favorites to meet in the conference finals.

The rest of the East will look to ruin those plans, but health-pending, there is a clear talent gap between those two and the other playoff hopefuls in the conference. The Philadelphia 76ers are among the teams with designs on a deep playoff run, as they want to finally get Joel Embiid past the second round barrier that has existed his entire career thus far. The problem is, their second-best player is currently pushing his way out, as James Harden, hurt by the lack of long-term extension offer this summer, picked up his player option and immediately demanded a trade.

Harden is trying to push his way to Los Angeles, but the Clippers don’t really have much ammunition to go get him and aren’t willing to part with their best young players (namely Terance Mann) to pursue him. The rest of the league isn’t particularly interested in Harden as a rental, and the Sixers aren’t willing to trade him for pennies on the dollar. The result is a stalemate that, unlike the Lillard situation in Portland, has not been resolved as media day gets set to begin in Monday.

When Joel Embiid and the rest of the squad arrive for media day, Harden won’t be with them as he continues to apply pressure for them to trade him — with it certainly seeming like he’ll miss the start of camp as they head to Colorado for some altitude training.

As Bobby Marks noted, Harden refusing to participate could eventually lead to him having to deal with the Withholding Services section of the new CBA that could prohibit him from being a free agent, as well as being subject to fines.

We know Harden is more willing to get uncomfortable than most star players and isn’t particularly concerned about the financial ramifications in the immediate with fines. However, the inability to get into free agency next summer could cause him some problems and might result in him joining the team at some point, but that brings an entirely different potential for problems if he is not engaged.

What Did Kanye West Say About Cardi B?

Did you know that Cardi B is an Illuminati plant?

At least, that’s what Kanye West seemed to think in leaked video clip that has gone viral on Twitter (which I, personally, am never going to call “X”). In the clip, Kanye says, Cardi B is a plant by the Illuminati… She doesn’t write her raps. She’s just there to sound as ignorant as possible. She’s literally replaced Nicki Minaj purposely… She thinks it’s a blessing from the universe, it ain’t no f*cking blessing.”

Now, it’s important to take all this with a grain of salt. Kanye’s hair and clothing in the video suggest that it was shot sometime in 2018, when he was in the middle of his “bipolar is my superpower,” communing-with-nature-in-Wyoming era. You may recall that a documentary was being shot around that time and he also had some not-so-nice things to say to his onetime collaborator Chance The Rapper. He’s also known being somewhat… let’s just say “erratic” — both before this clip and more recently.

Likewise, since the video was shot, Kanye has worked with Cardi B (and Lil Durk) on her 2022 single “Hot Sh*t.” Cardi herself reminded followers that ‘Ye has also been plenty complimentary of her mic skills as well, posting a clip from Kanye’s 2022 interview with Jason Lee of Hollywood Unlocked in which he contradicts the above statements. “I’ve always believed in her since she was on Love & Hip-Hop: New York,” he said.

Is it “Oochie Wally” or is “One Mic,” Kanye?

John Oliver Could Not Wait To Make Up For Missing Out On Lauren Boebert’s ‘Beetlejuice’ Scandal During The WGA Strike

Heck yeah, the late night shows are starting to return to the airwaves following the conclusion of the WGA strike. The still-hostless The Daily Show will return on October 16, but before then, we shall see Jimmy Kimmel, Seth Meyer, and Jimmy Fallon hit their respective stages. As well, Last Week Tonight roared into action this week, and guess who had a lot to catch up on regarding a certain Beetlejuice groping scandal?

That would be host John Oliver, of course. HBO’s merrily abrasive jester shelved the hoodie again to address the strike’s resolution and also deep-dive into prison health care, but he could not help but turn his attention to how Lauren Boebert fondled her Democrat Bar Guy in the middle of a crowded theater also attended by families.

Oliver attempted to quickly put the subject to rest by summing up the Boebert antics while he insisted, “I don’t want to get into that.” Oh, but he did.

Oliver tried to switch back to discussing Italian PM Giorgia Meloni, but he had to interrupt himself and get this out of his system: “It was Beetlejuice, by the way! That. Was. The. Musical.” The audience was clearly loving this diversion as well, and then Oliver went to town:

“Lauren Boebert was watching… [chuckles] it was a torrid production of Beetlejuice: The Musical. I just need you to know that. I’m not saying it would be appropriate to engage in high-school freshman-era hand stuff during a production of any musical. I just want to be clear, this wasn’t one of the more sexually explicit ones like Spring Awakening or Rocky Horror or Cats. This was Beetlejuice … I’m just saying, if you’re gonna get your nipples tweaked and your pipes squeaked, save that sh*t for Fiddler like a goddamn adult.”

It’s good to have John Oliver back. You can watch the clip below.

John Oliver Kicked Off His ‘Last Week Tonight’ Return By Taking The Studios To Task For Dragging Out The Writers Strike

With the writers strike officially over, Last Week Tonight returned on Sunday where John Oliver wasted no time calling out the studios for not negotiating a deal with the writers (and actors) sooner. The fiery late night host spent the bulk of his remarks praising writers and the WGA for holding strong over the past five months, but Oliver could not hold back his anger at how long it took for the AMPTP to do what it should’ve done from the very start.

“So the Writers Guild went on strike and thankfully won, but it took a lot of sacrifices from a lot of people to achieve that,” Oliver said via The Hollywood Reporter. “And while I’m happy that they eventually got a fair deal and immensely proud of what our union accomplished, I’m also furious that it took the studios 148 days to achieve a deal that they could have offered on day f*cking one. But hopefully, this might encourage others, from auto workers to Starbucks baristas to health care providers, whether they are in unions or would like to be, to find power in each other.”

Oliver also took time to praise the writers for powering through the arduous ordeal that was well worth the effort.

“It was an immensely difficult time, not just for them but for everyone else working on this show and many others who could no longer do their jobs,” the Last Week Tonight host said. “And to be clear, this strike happened for good reasons. Our industry has seen its work severely squeezed in recent years. You’ve probably seen stories about writers and actors whose work you may even recognize, routinely not making enough to qualify for health insurance or afford basic needs.”

In a show of solidarity, Oliver wished for the best for the still striking actors to “take what the writers achieved and leverage it to win fair contracts for themselves too.”

“Because the truth is, it takes many people working really hard to make film and TV, all of whom deserve a piece of the pie and for the actors in particular, they cannot come back to work soon enough,” Oliver said in conclusion. He then turned his attention to plowing through all of the news stories he missed including King Charles coronation, the Titan submersible, and of course, Lauren Boebert’s Beetlejuice groping scandal.

“This was Beetlejuice. A show that is quite loudly about death,” Oliver quipped. “I’m just saying, if you’re gonna get your nipples tweaked and your pipes squeaked, you save that shit for Fiddler [on the Roof] like a goddamn adult.”
