Taylor Swift Is Bringing ‘The Eras Tour’ To Movie Theaters With A Huge New Concert Film

Without a doubt, the biggest concert tour of the year has been Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour; Uproxx’s Philip Cosores caught a concert earlier this year and in his review, he called it “the most impressive stadium show ever conceived.” The unfortunate fact is, though, that not every Swift fan will be able to experience the tour live. However, Swift is now offering the next best thing: an Eras Tour concert film.

The movie, simply titled Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, is getting a full-blown theatrical release and is set to hit screens on October 13. The official announcement was made on Good Morning America today (August 31).

Swift also wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “The Eras Tour has been the most meaningful, electric experience of my life so far and I’m overjoyed to tell you that it’ll be coming to the big screen soon [smiling emoji] Starting Oct 13th you’ll be able to experience the concert film in theaters in North America! Tickets are on sale now at http://taylor.lnk.to/TSTheErasTourFilm. Eras attire, friendship bracelets, singing and dancing encouraged [heart hands emoji] 1, 2, 3 LGB!!!! (iykyk)”

The film’s page on the AMC Theaters website notes the movie will run for 2 hours and 45 minutes. AMC Ticketholders will get a free mini poster, while the theater is also selling collectible cups and popcorn buckets.

Swift also had some fun with ticket prices: Adult tickets cost $19.89, while children and seniors get in for $13.13.

How Germany’s ‘Master Interrogator’ relied on kindness and empathy during WWII

Imagine it’s WWII. You’re an American fighter pilot (thank you for your service) and a prisoner of war (eek).

Your interrogator walks in, and instantly your mind begins to prepare you for the torture that lies ahead. Will you be kicked, whipped and beaten? Forced to stand for hours on end until you give the enemy crucial intel? The anticipation alone is excruciating.

Suddenly, your interrogator says, “What would you like for lunch?”

This would be your treatment if questioned under Hanns-Joachim Gottlob Scharff, “Master Interrogator” of Germany’s Luftwaffe branch, who’s unconventional techniques surprisingly reveal the power of kindness.

Scharff never sought out a military career, but a series of seemingly fated events led him to one nonetheless.

A businessman at the time, Scharff had been vacationing in Germany in 1939 when the war broke out and he was forcibly drafted into the army. His wife would help him avoid fighting on the front lines by vying for him to work as an interpreter.

It wouldn’t be long before Scharff would unintentionally move up the ranks. After two of his superiors died in a plane crash, he landed the position of lead interrogator.

Unlike his peers and predecessors, Scharff was opposed to obtaining information through physical or psychological abuse. Instead, he relied upon friendliness and empathy. He regularly took prisoners out to lunch and on luxurious nature walks, and he even offered them baked goods made by his wife. It was essentially more of a wooing than an interrogation.

In addition to the friendly approach, Scharff would also never press for information and perpetuated an illusion of knowing all the information already (which included acting unsurprised whenever a prisoner might reveal new intel). The last component of his strategy involved casually presenting a claim to see if the prisoner would confirm or deny it, otherwise known as the confirmation/disconfirmation tactic.

All these tricks proved incredibly effective. Not only was Scharrf highly successful at getting information (one prisoner famously remarked that he “could get a confession of infidelity from a nun”) he also managed to save the lives of multiple American pilots in the process. He even remained friends with one after the war.

His methods were so successful that following WWII, he was invited to give lectures in America, and he became a major influence on U.S. interrogation techniques.

One last fun fact: America is where Scharff would end up retiring, where he would take up creating mosaics—a passion he once had as a young boy. If you ever find yourself at Cinderella’s Castle in Walt Disney World, you might find one of his works.

Cinderella, Disney World

Not in Florida anytime soon? You can also find some of his work at the California State Capitol building, Los Angeles City Hall, and several American universities like Dixie College in Utah and the University of Southern California campus.

You know what they say—you catch more bees with honey than you do with vinegar. Getting the desired result from another person is often more easily achieved by being kind and understanding, both in times of war and in everyday life.

Ellie Goulding’s ‘Face Is Intact’ Despite An On-Stage Firework’s Best Efforts, So That’s Good News

The show will luckily go on for Ellie Goulding, who is scheduled to perform at Superbloom Festival on Saturday, September 2. The singer avoided disaster last Sunday, August 27, during her set at Victorious Festival in Portsmouth, England when she walked a little too closely to on-stage pyro exploding upward.

A TikTok user named Emilia Hollands posted a video of Goulding dancing freely on stage while singing “Miracle,” her March single with Calvin Harris. A firework shoots up and appears to hit her. It sounds like Goulding briefly paused singing to say, “Ah, f*ck!” but didn’t let it stop her beyond that. The TikTok reads, “Ellie Goulding gets hit by a fire work [sic] then continues to sing.”

“Miracle” took on new meaning when Goulding relayed she avoided injury. “To those asking I am ok!” she wrote on her now-expired Instagram Story (as captured by Billboard and Pop Crave). “Pyro didn’t hit me directly in the face. Face is intact. Love you thank you x”

Goulding is semi-fresh off releasing her fifth studio album, Higher Than Heaven, on April 7 — home to her single “Easy Lover” featuring Big Sean. Around the same time, “Miracle” enjoyed two weeks at No. 1 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart.

Jimmy Kimmel Swears He Was Planning To Retire Before The WGA Strike Began, But Has Since Decided Against It

The two strikes that have brought Hollywood to a standstill have had some unintended consequences. Shows have been abruptly cancelled. Movie releases have been delayed. For Jimmy Kimmel, the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes wound up putting the kibosh on something he swears he’s been wanting to do: retire.

As per Entertainment Weekly, Strike Force Five, that new super-sized podcast comprised of late night talk show kings, debuted its first episode, allowing Jimmys Fallon and Kimmel, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver to talk about, among other things, how they’ve been dealing with being off-air. Kimmel had the most dramatic story of them all.

“Are you guys getting stir-crazy? Are you ready to go back to work?” Kimmel inquired of his cohosts. “Because as you know, I was very intent on retiring right around the time where the strike started, and now I realize, like, ‘Oh yeah, it’s kinda nice to work.’ You know, when you are working, you think about not working.”

But not everyone bought Kimmel’s story. “Come on,” Meyers interrupted. “You are the Tom Brady of late-night hosts. You have feigned retirement…”

“I’m Tom Brady without any rings, yes, or fingers,” Kimmel quipped.

Meyers asked him, “Are we to take you at your word, that you were seriously considering this?”

Kimmel assured Meyers he was “very, very serious” about throwing in the towel, adding that he’d even floated the idea past some colleagues. But obviously it’s not to be, as having spent four months not working has shown him what not working permanently is really like.

During the episode, the hosts also talked about why they set up their podcast to begin with. “The last time there was a writers’ strike, there wasn’t a lot of communication between the late-night hosts,” Kimmel explained. “And as a result, there was a lot of nonsense that went on, so Stephen suggested we get together and we talk through our issues and whatever we’re dealing with.”

Kimmel also expressed solidarity with his teams. “The reason we’re doing this is because we are financially supporting members of our staffs,” Kimmel said. “There are hundreds of members of our staffs — writers, you name it. Everyone that works on a TV show is out of work right now, and so all the money we make for this show goes to them.”

Joe Biden Took The High Road When Discussing Mitch McConnell’s Troubling ‘Freezing’ Incidents (Unlike How A Certain Ex-President Would Have Reacted)

On Wednesday, just over a month after Mitch McConnell suffered a disturbing freezing-up episode, it happened again. Eerily, this time it happened as he was being asked if he would run for office again. The incident prompted some to call on the Senate Majority Leader, now 81, to resign. But when asked about it, despite frequently being at loggerheads, President Joe Biden took the high road.

While wrapping up a press conference, Biden addressed the elephant in the room. “By the way, I just heard literally coming out and Mitch is a friend, as you know — not a joke,” he told reporters. “Well, you know, people don’t believe that’s the case, but we have disagreements politically, but he’s a good friend.”

Biden said he was going to check in with him, but admitted he was a bit fuzzy on the details, adding, “I don’t know enough to know.”

Both Biden and McConnell are from another age, when lawmakers from different parties — even those in key places in power — found ways to get along. Biden has many reasons to potentially dislike McConnell; for one thing he’s openly bragged about unfairly blocking Obama from replacing Judge Antonin Scalia’s seat on the Supreme Court in 2016. But for Biden, here the personal outweighed the political.

It’s also a stark contrast from what Donald Trump, who openly hates McConnell (and says racist things about his wife), would say about his health issues had he won re-election. The former president has yet to comment on his second such episode.

In related news, Biden also discussed working with Ron DeSantis, a potential (albeit, now, unlikely) rival in 2024, on helping Florida with Hurricane Idalia. Biden had good words about him, too.

“No, believe it or not, I know this sounds strange, especially how the nature of politics today. But, you know, I was down there when the last major storm,” Biden said. “I spent a lot of time with him walking from from community to community, making sure he had what he needed to get it done.”

He added, “I think he trusts my judgment and my desire to help. And I trust him to be able to suggest this is not about politics, is about taking care of the people of this state.”

Nebraska Volleyball Set A World Record For Attendance At A Women’s Sporting Event With 92,003

On Wednesday evening, the Nebraska women’s volleyball team got set to play Omaha in a very different setting than they were used to. Volleyball is wildly popular in Nebraska, and the Huskers decided that after selling out their arena they should try playing a game inside Memorial Stadium, which is getting set to be filled on Saturdays for football.

The result was one of the most incredible scenes you’ll see this year in sports, as 92,003 packed their way into a football stadium to watch a women’s volleyball match, setting a new world record for the most people to attend a women’s sporting event of any kind, anywhere.

It’s incredibly cool and the clips from the match are pretty wild, as it’s an absolute sea of red in the crowd, with stands built up next to the court and then the normal football seats packed as well.

Unsurprisingly, the Huskers dominated the match, as the No. 4 team in the country rolled through the first two sets, winning both at 25-14 a piece. It was quite the showing both from the team and gave the Nebraska faithful a good reason to have made their way to a record-setting evening. The pressure is now firmly on Matt Rhule and the Nebraska football team to give those same fans something to cheer about the next time they head to Memorial Stadium, now that they’ve gotten a refreshed taste of what dominance can look like in that building.
