Report: The Niners Are Trading Trey Lance To The Cowboys For A Mid-Round Pick

The Trey Lance era in San Francisco has finally come to a conclusion. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Niners are trading the former No. 3 overall pick to the Dallas Cowboys for a mid-round pick just days after Sam Darnold was named the backup to Brock Purdy.

Despite trading three first-round picks to move up and select Lance in 2021, the Niners never saw him play a full season, and he’ll leave the team after playing in just eight games. A season-ending leg injury in Week 2 last season led to a series of events that saw Purdy, a seventh-round pick in 2022, ascend to the starting quarterback position. Lance entered training camp competing to win the starting job, or at least come away as the clear backup, but he could not beat out Purdy or Darnold, the latter of whom San Francisco signed this offseason.

The Cowboys will pay a small price to take a chance on a talented young quarterback that hasn’t had many reps at the NFL level. Dallas has a clear franchise quarterback in Dak Prescott, while backup Cooper Rush led the team to a 4-1 record last season. Lance will have to earn his way onto the field if he’s going to play, but will escape the pressure of being the guy San Francisco envisioned him being and gets the opportunity to learn from Mike McCarthy, who has a history of developing young quarterbacks.

The Latest Bronny James Update Indicates He Should Be Able To ‘Return To Basketball In The Very Near Future’

Bronny James, the eldest son of Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, went into cardiac arrest earlier this year while playing basketball. A true freshman student-athlete at USC, James received an outpouring of support in the aftermath of the incident, and his father eventually announced that he was doing well while he was on the road to recovery.

It’s been a few weeks since LeBron gave that update, and on Friday evening, we got a bit of good news regarding his ability to play basketball going forward. In a statement from a family spokesperson, the cause of the incident was announced, along with the fact that Broony is expected to be able to return to the court “in the very near future.”

After a comprehensive initial evaluation at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center led by Dr. Merije Chukumerije and follow-up evaluations at the Mayo Clinic led by Dr. Michael J. Ackerman and Atlantic Health/Morristown Medical Center led by Dr. Matthew W. Martinez, the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) has been identified. It is an anatomically and functionally significant Congenital Heart Defect which can and will be treated.

We are very confident in Bronny’s full recovery and return to basketball in the very near future. We will continue to provide updates to media and respectfully reiterate the family’s request for privacy.

Obviously, the most important thing here is that Bronny will be able to recover from this, but it’s great to hear that he’ll be able to resume his basketball career sometime down the road. The former 4-star recruit is projected to be a first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Green Day Gave A ‘Nimrod’ Makeover To Trump’s Mugshot For New Merch That Will Benefit A Good Cause

It’s been a wild week for mugshots, as both Rudy Giuliani and Trump’s have both surfaced.

Because of this, Green Day decided to get in on the joke — never one to shy away from political statements. Taking a more comedic tone on it all, the band replaced their classic Nimrod cover with Trump’s mugshot behind the word instead.

Fans can now buy the shirts, as the band revealed on Instagram. And they’re going to a good cause in the wake of other recent news. n

“Good Riddance. The ultimate Nimrod shirt is available for 72 hours only. Limited edition shirt proceeds will be donated to T̶h̶e̶ ̶G̶i̶u̶l̶i̶a̶n̶i̶ ̶L̶e̶g̶a̶l̶ ̶D̶e̶f̶e̶n̶s̶e̶ ̶F̶u̶n̶d̶ [crossed out] @greatergoodmusiccharity, which brings food to those affected by the Maui wildfires,” they captioned.

However, despite the band literally having an album called American Idiot, people in the replies were (somehow) surprised by the move. “Stay out of politics Green Day,” one user wrote.

Meanwhile, fans had thoughts as well. “Everyone in the comments shocked that Green Day dislikes Trump,” another person added, in response to the comments that were against the move.

Bill Murray And Kelis Have Reportedly Ended Their ‘Whirlwind Romance’ After Just A Few Months

It truly has been a record summer for breakups. Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn. Rauw Alejandro and Rosalía.

And now, just in case anyone out there was still rooting for these two, sadly Bill Murray and Kelis have reportedly broken up, according to the US Sun.

“Kelis and Bill were — and still are — very fond of each other but things just ran their course,” a source told the publication about what happened between them.

“They both have busy schedules and after a whirlwind romance decided to go their separate ways. They hope to remain friends but also plan to get on with their lives,” they added.

Neither of their representatives commented on the matter and really never quite confirmed they were together. Kelis, after not fully giving fans a straight answer back in June, recently denied that she was with him with a simple, “ugh , no !”

Earlier this summer, Murray and Kelis had been supposedly connected after he had attended one of her London concerts. Sources at the time also told the US Sun the two were staying together in a hotel and initially hit it off in the US.

The publication cited that they bonded over recently losing loved ones: Kelis with her second husband in March of 2022 and Murray with his brother Ed and estranged wife.

However, sadly, it’s reportedly over now, and fans won’t see him jamming out to “Milkshake” any time soon.

Businesses can succeed while still being ethical—just ask Warren Buffett

Warren Buffett isn’t just rich. He’s known for being ethical, straightforward, and wise. And also generous. Not just with his money but with his ideas.

Buffett straight up spelled out how he makes decisions on how to invest in and acquire businesses in a public letter sent to his shareholders. To be clear: His instincts and insights are what have made him such a rich man. And that’s what he’s sharing so openly with the world.

These are the six factors Warren Buffett says he considers when he’s making big business decisions.

Maybe they could help the rest of us think through some tough decisions in our own lives? Let’s see.

Maybe you, too, are investing billions of dollars. Or, uh, maybe not. But the day-to-day choices you have to make about life could be just as tough — and important. So let’s see how his lessons could apply:

1. It’s gotta be a big choice and a big win.

Buffett says he prefers to acquire “large purchases (at least $75 million of pre-tax earnings unless the business will fit into one of our existing units).” Aka, go big, go bold. Not everything has to be huge, but in tough times, sometimes doing the big, scary thing is how you reap the big, amazing reward.

2. The decision has to create value for you consistently and currently.

None of this “it’ll pay off in the distant future” or “it just needs some elbow grease” stuff. Whatever you’re choosing, make sure it’s valuable and has concrete, real-life impact. Or, as Buffett says, the acquisition must have “demonstrated consistent earning power (future projections are of no interest to us, nor are ‘turnaround’ situations).”

3. The decision will benefit everyone who’s invested in it, and it won’t leave anyone hanging.

Buffett wants “businesses earning good returns on equity while employing little or no debt,” aka no one who’s put time/effort/money/love into said life choice (or business move) will come out at the end with less than what they started with. Makes sense, right? Basically, don’t screw people over with the choices you make. Have some heart and fairness.

4. Everything necessary for success should already be in place.

Buffett mentions that there must be “management in place” and that his company “can’t supply it.” Invest time and energy in things that are solid and have demonstrated reliability. That is, “don’t build the ship while you sail it.” Why? According to Buffett’s logic, when making huge decisions, if the part that keeps makes the end result of your decision sustainable is already there, that’s a very good sign.

5. The decision may be hard, but the terms should be simple.

Buffett wants simple businesses, saying — in his awesomely straightforward way — “if there’s lots of technology, we won’t understand it.” Life isn’t always simple and there’s certainly a time for complexity, but the lesson here is a good one: If you’re making a huge choice, don’t overcomplicate it.

6. The options are clear and available.

Buffett refers to this availability, basically saying that the company has to have a price on it already and that his firm doesn’t “want to waste our time or that of the seller by talking, even preliminarily, about a transaction when price is unknown.” I take this to mean that the choice is a clear action. No negotiations necessary.

Bingo.

Now I’m not saying that this well-to-do investor has all the answers just because he has all the money, and I know it’s a little out there to think of these investment acquisition tips as something you can apply to your own, non-billionaire life. But think about it. Fearlessness? Fairness? Preparation? These are some helpful themes we could all probably take a few lessons from.

So next time you’re making a big decision, think about them. In a world where financial literacy isn’t exactly the norm, looking at how financial greats make their decisions could be an interesting thing to try. Who knows? It might help you.

Elephants in India can find care and compassion from humans in their very own hospital

India’s first elephant hospital, the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital, opened in the Hindu holy town of Mathura, located in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh.

Injured, sick, rescued, and elderly elephants now have a home to receive the care that they need. The facility is run by non-profit Wildlife SOS. Wildlife SOS also runs a conservation and care center near the newly opened hospital, and is currently home to 22 elephants.

The Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital was designed with the needs of our four-legged friends in mind. The 12,000-square ft. facility contains x-ray, thermal imaging, and ultrasound machines, tranquilization devices, a hydrotherapy pool, an in-house pathology lab, and quarantine facilities.

The hospital will even enable remote patients to receive care. “Our hospital has center with very portable kind of machinery,” explains Geeta Seshamani, Wildlife SOS co-founder. “So if an elephant is hit-and-run very far away anywhere in North India, we can go there and we can take care of it on site itself.”

“The hospital is something really special because for centuries India has used its elephants and abused them,” added Seshamani. “Today, for the first time, we can offer them a place where we can heal them and take very good care of them.”

elephants, religious symbols, wildlife, abuse

Among those abused elephants who will find a safe haven at the Wildlife SOS Elephant Hospital will be elephants who were abused in captivity, elephants who were turned into tourist attractions, and elephants who were involved in freeway accidents.

“These elephants go through a lot of abuse, brutality, cruelty in order to be ridden,” Wildlife SOS co-founder Kartick Satyanarayan said in a BCC interview. “And through that process, they develop abscesses, internal problems, back problems, all kinds of health issues that need to be addressed.”

Between 50 and 60 percent of Asia’s wild elephants reside in India. Just 20 percent of domesticated elephants call the country home. With such a large elephant population, conservation should be at the forefront, especially since India’s elephant population is on the decline. In 2012, India’s elephant population was 29,391 – 30,711. By 2017, it had fallen to 27,312. World Wildlife Organization estimates there are as few as 20,000 in 2022.

Elephants are highly revered as both cultural and religious symbols in India, however they have been subjected to brutal mistreatment.

Some fall victim to the wildlife trade, while others are mistreated by mahouts (caretakers). Others are poached, poisoned, or electrocuted.

“I think by building a hospital we are underlining the fact that elephants need welfare measures as much as any other animal,” Seshamani told Reuters TV. “That captive elephants are not meant to be used and abused but instead have to be given the respect which an animal needs if you are going to be using the animal.”

Zach Bryan Is A Must-See Phenomenon

Since the beginning of the pandemic, for these years when touring was non-existent and then heavily altered, one of the prevailing musical narratives has been artist growth and sustained momentum. Shelved albums lost their moment, while someone like Taylor Swift went into high production to come out the other end into a new career peak.

Then there are people like Zach Bryan, whose career was taking off just as the world was closing down. After going viral with a YouTube video in 2017, he offered up his debut album in late 2019 and just kept releasing music at a feverish pace. He’s now released four full-lengths — his latest, a self-titled affair, is out today — along with two EPs, a live album, and numerous singles. Just in Los Angeles, he went from a 2,000-cap room to an arena in a year, while turning up in homes on several episodes of Yellowstone as both soundtrack and performer. He’s become one of the fastest-rising and most exciting stars in music, all while barely granting an interview or playing to many of the typical industry games.

This was apparent in IRL fashion at Staples Center on Wednesday — still not calling it Crypto.com Arena, sorry/not sorry — with a sold-out show that saw fans wearing their finest hats and boots. And while the wardrobe might have matched a typical country outing, his music and the show are anything but traditional. The audience sings along to literally every song in a Swifftian manner — maybe the link here is recent prolific production, or maybe it’s just great songwriting — while the decision to perform in the round gave the large space a sense of intimacy that is rarely felt on a large scale. For his part, Bryan pulled out all the stops, beginning the show by acknowledging the birthday of the venue’s most famous alum, Kobe Bryant, and later inviting Maggie Rogers to perform their standout “Dawns” together.

A lot has been written and said about country music’s current chart dominance, and how much of it is centered on political dog whistles, layup covers, or, you know, Morgan Wallen. But Zach Bryan is a different breed, doing things a different way. “Something In The Orange” is a legit country radio hit, but he seems more along the Kacey Musgraves/Sturgill Simpson path in terms of fan appeal, centering his music above all else in the manner of Chris Stapleton. These are all arena-level country stars who don’t fit into an easy box, people who idolize Willie and Waylon and Patsy. But, he also is drawing fans from the post-stomp-clap Americana realm, sometimes evoking a similar sonic territory as Ryan Adams, just without the asshole connotations.

All that is to say that Zach Bryan is a lot more than America’s next great country singer or songwriter, he’s a must-see phenomenon with appeal that transcends genre. In concert, it’s infectious and instantly apparent. He didn’t perform a single song off the new album of Wednesday night, despite it being two days from release. He’s literally turning out the tunes faster than he can support them. And while during the pandemic it became difficult to know what streaming sensations had real-world appeal, Bryan has left nothing ambiguous. He’s a bona fide star, and he’s only burning brighter.

Check out some photos from Zach Bryan in Los Angeles below.

Selena Gomez Used An Infamous ‘Sex And The City’ Break-Up Tactic In Her Latest Video

Who is your favorite Upper East Sider who hangs out with older men, has cool outfits, and loves Samantha Jones? That’s Selena Gomez in Only Murders In The Building, of course, but perhaps you were thinking of that other show. It’s okay, sometimes there’s sex in the building and murders in the city. That’s how life works.

Gomez recently released a new single, aptly titled “Single Soon,” a catchy pop track about being single and heading out on the town, but the music video features a nod to a notable Sex and the City moment.

At the beginning of the video, Gomez is sneaking out of the apartment of her alleged partner, leaving behind a familiar yellow post-it that says “I’m sorry I can’t Don’t hate me.” Sound familiar? Like your heart is breaking at brunch all over again???

The move was a nod to a season six episode of Sex and the City when Carrie is broken up with via the same note. The breakup went down in Sex and the City history as one of the cruelest/silliest moments of the show, though it was integral to the plot. Before dropping the video, Gomez also posted a TikTok of herself using a Samantha Jones sound bite –which Kim Cattrall herself “approved.” What would Che Diaz say?

The rest of the music video features Gomez out on the town with her pals, and no, Steve Martin and Martin Short did not show up to party. But there’s always next time. Check out the video below.

Oliver Anthony Finds It ‘Funny’ That ‘Rich Men North Of Richmond’ Was Played At The Republican Debate: ‘I Wrote That Song About Those People’

Oliver Anthony, the overnight star whose song “Rich Men North Of Richmond” has accidentally become an rallying cry for the conservative movement, remains nonplussed at the song’s success among the more unsavory elements of the nation’s political participants. After the song was played to open the Republican Presidential debate on Wednesday night, the bashful musician posted a video to YouTube admitting that the song’s use during the debate was “funny.”

After some preamble explaining his current circumstances and musing about how “dirty” the music industry apparently is from his outsider’s perspective, he addressed the debate situation head-on. He expressed frustration that the song had taken on such a political bent over the past few weeks and politicians trying to use him for clout.

“It was funny seeing my song at the [Republican] presidential debate, because I wrote that song about those people,” he admitted. “So for them to have to sit there and listen to that, that cracks me up. It was funny seeing the response to it. That song has nothing to do with Joe Biden — it’s a lot bigger than Joe Biden. That song is written about the people on that stage — and a lot more, too. Not just them, but definitely them.”

While he hates to see the song being “weaponized,” and doesn’t enjoy being used as a political prop, his heart seems to be in a decent enough place, despite everything (both sides-ism and demonizing welfare recipients — the same people who are experiencing food insecurity — isn’t reeeeeally the solution here, bud, no matter what Fox News tells you).

You can see the full video up top.
