The Miami Dolphins made one of the splashier trades of the offseason when they went out and got former All-Pro corner Jalen Ramsey from the Los Angeles Rams.
Ramsey figured to immediately upgrade the Dolphins pass defense, which had its struggles at times in 2022, but the star defensive back will not be on the field when Miami opens its season against Justin Herbert and the Chargers in Week 1. That’s because on Thursday, Ramsey went down with a left knee injury while covering Tyreek Hill late in the day at Dolphins training camp and was carted off the field.
According to Adam Schefter, further testing on Thursday evening revealed there was enough damage to require surgery on his left meniscus, but that he had not damaged his ACL and was expected to return at some point during the season. Per Tom Pelissero, the minimum timetable for his return is 6-8 weeks, but a firm timetable won’t be known until after surgery.
Dolphins’ six-time Pro-Bowl CB Jalen Ramsey will undergo knee surgery and is expected to miss the start of the regular season with the injury that he suffered during today’s practice, per league sources. Ramsey’s ACL is intact, though, which is a positive. pic.twitter.com/oGLxJPDpo6
Ramsey, for his part, seems to be staying positive and in good spirits despite the disheartening news that he’ll have to wait longer than expected to make his Dolphins debut.
I’ll be back on that field stronger than ever… in due time! This SO minor for God’s child! I trust fully & know He got me! Im forever grateful to worship His name! I know my brothers gone hold it down until I’m back tho! 🩵
All told, it’s a better outcome than it could’ve been, but for a Dolphins team that will be dealing with passing attacks led by Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers in their division, having Ramsey out for any extended time will make things more difficult on their defense to hold up.
Hi, folks! Meet Emmett, the retired, motorcycle-riding nomad better known as “Old Biker Dude.”
On any given day that you have access to YouTube, you can follow along on Old Biker Dude’s ultra wholesome off-grid adventures, where he might show you how to bake a trout to perfection, show off his impressive solar-powered wagon or take in the majestic beauty of the surrounding mountains and trees.
For the longest time, almost nobody was following Emmett or his content. Despite posting regularly, his videos largely went unviewed.
Then a stranger completely turned things around.
Cole Caetano, better known as @karvetv on TikTok, regularly scopes out YouTube channels in need of support and shares them on his account to help them get views and followers. He also reposts videos of people doing kind acts. Just nourishing content all around.
Caetano came across Old Biker Dude, and shared this:
As usual, the repost worked. People were completely charmed by Emmett, and almost overnight, his following grew exponentially. Today he has 102,000 subscribers.
“ATTENTION: On July 24th, I suddenly began getting thousands of subs as the result of one of the kindest things anyone has ever done for me. A Tik Tok’r named karveTV featured me on his channel. I’m literally in tears as I sit here watching this. Thank you son.”
In TEARS. This is just too sweet.
As others were quick to point out, this endearing story really shows the power of TikTok being used for good.
Unlike other social media platforms, TikTok doesn’t require users to already have a following in order to go viral, which means creative, unique and even absurd content can quickly infiltrate the online zeitgeist. If you put out something that is entertaining, as Emmett clearly did, the odds of getting it to those who would appreciate it are far more likely. That’s why, for all its faults, TikTok can be a magical tool for human connection.
If you’d like to join Old Biker Dude’s ever-growing subscriber base, head over to YouTube.
And if you’d like to give Caetano some much-deserved love as well, follow him on TikTok.
When it comes to beer, there are few terms that make craft beer fans cringe more than “light.” It conjures up images of mass-produced macro beers with unfashionable, boring labels, low alcohol, and even less flavor. Beers that look like yellow fizzy water and taste even worse.
“Light beers often leave me wanting more,” says Ryan Pachmayer, head brewer at Yak and Yeti Brewpub & Restaurant in Arvada, Colorado. “I don’t particularly love light beers with rice or corn, it really strips the core flavor of the beer away and leaves you with an almost nothingness, and sometimes even a slight bite of alcohol, which is ironic given the low ABV of these types of beers.”
Pachmayer isn’t wrong for thinking this about light beers. This is because, for decades, that’s exactly what light beer was. Nothing more than bland fizz. Luckily, that’s beginning to change. Especially in the craft beer world.
And while they don’t all label their beers “light” on the bottles or cans, it doesn’t change the fact that many craft breweries are brewing beers that fit the style. We’re talking about lower-ABV, less-filling, refreshing beers that you can feel a little better about drinking as opposed to your mid-winter 14% ABV bourbon barrel bangers. The best part? Even though they are lighter, the best f them are full-flavored, balanced, and complex.
To find these light diamonds in the beer-drenched rough, we turned to the professionals who actually brew beer for help. We asked a few well-known brewers, beer professionals, and craft beer experts to tell us their picks for the best craft light beers on the market that are actually worth drinking.
The best light beer I have had in a long time is made by The Big Island Brewhaus. It was their Migoto Rice Lager. It is their interpretation of a Japanese-style dry lager. It’s a super session ale that has enough flavor to keep you wanting another one.
Tasting Notes:
It is very pale yellow in color with a light crisp malt character and a soft floral finish from the noble German hops they use. At 4.5% it is Infinitely drinkable.
Odell Brewing’s Lagerado is my pick. The usual best of the bunch still makes me wish they added more hops – Light lager should basically start at Helles-level bittering in my opinion. Enter Lagerado. An all-grain beer made by reliable Colorado standby Odell. I was on the panel that scored this beer for the Craft Beer & Brewing review, and after submitting a high score, I was delighted to find out what this beer was.
Tasting Notes:
It’s also only listed at 12IBUs, but it has a clear, slightly floral hop component to it, offering plenty of interesting hop balance and making me question my earlier Helles comment.
Lagunitas DayTime IPA is a great choice. While not technically a “craft” beer, it’s tough to beat the appeal of this light IPA. Light IPAs sometimes don’t have as much hop aroma and flavor as regular IPAs. Lagunitas managed to make one that was both light and flavorful.
Tasting Notes:
It’s easy drinking, hoppy, and balanced. Nice tart citrus-like mangos. Great depth of flavor for a lower-alcohol beer.
This is really a style I have very little experience with. However, leave it to Ben Potts at Second District BC in South Philadelphia to come up with an option. Big Skipper Table IPA is brewed with 100% northwestern 2-row malt and ‘a dash of cane sugar.’
Tasting Notes:
Hopped generously with Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops. It offers juicy grapefruit, mango, lightly dank notes. And it’s only 2.6% ABV.
The best light beer from a craft brewery is Lil’ Cinder. It is a great beer from Cinderlands Beer in Pittsburgh. It may only really make it around Pittsburgh but it’s wonderful if you can get it.
Tasting Notes:
A nose of sweet corn and citrus peel leads to a refreshing palate of cereal grains, honey, citrus peel, and aromatic hops.
Kalifornia Kölsch by Magnolia Brewing Co. Kalifornia should become a fridge staple; it’s a flavorful, crisp example of the style with an impressive emphasis on the malts. While not labeled as a light beer, the low ABV and easy-drinking nature absolutely qualify it.
Tasting Notes:
To wit: Oyster crackers rule the aroma, while hints of crisp red delicious apples and a whiff of oregano can be picked up in the background. Sweet crackers are also the first noticeable flavor, followed by apple/pear slices lightly dusted with cracked black pepper. While the herbal bitterness is a notch above what I’m used to for the style, it’s not off-putting at all, and the dry finish that wipes away everything save the crackery malts makes this one crushable kölsch.
Riner from Cervesa Guineu. One of the finest light beers ever made. This single hopped, 2.5% abv beer really defines the light beer style and hits on every mark.
Tasting Notes:
Light but flavorful, easy to drink but 100% exciting on the palate. It actually has a fair amount of bitterness but still is perfectly balanced. I could drink this beer every day.
Small Change Brewing The Future is Unwritten
Small Change Brewing
Frederic Yarm, USBG bartender at Josephine in Somerville, Massachusetts
Small Change Brewing Company makes an amazing dark Mild called The Future is Unwritten.
Tasting Notes:
Its light body and low alcohol content (3.1%) is countered by darker malt notes of chocolate and caramel that are so pleasing and refreshing to drink and elegantly matches the classic British session beer Mild style.
Fair State Brewing Cooperative KÖLD
Fair State Brewing Cooperative
Garth Beyer, certified Cicerone and owner of Garth’s Brew Bar in Madison, Wisconsin
ABV: 4.7%
Average Price: Limited Availability
The Beer:
KÖLD is Fair State Brewing Cooperative’s kölsch-style ale. This is an everyday beer. All-day beer. Again, and again kind of beer. The type of beer you want to keep in your fridge all the time.
Tasting Notes:
This is an example of a light beer done right. It has hint of fruitiness, very mild hop citrus flavor, and a tight, but pleasant bitterness.
Faction Brewing’s 1970s Lager is a great example of how craft breweries have gravitated towards lager. But not only is this a flavorful, balanced, well-made lager. It’s also a sessionable 3.9% ABV.
Tasting Notes:
Simple, balanced, and crystal-clear, this light lager scratches the itch for those growing weary of hop-overload and ready to discover the beauty of craft light lager.
In-N-Out’s Secret Menu is the Holy Grail of off-menu fast food eating. Thanks to its variety and ease of access — In-N-Out refers to it officially as the “not so secret menu” — ordering these dishes is common practice among In-N-Out regulars. Meaning that the staff doesn’t look at you crazy for asking for a “Flying Dutchman,” a “Tomato Wrap” or “Animal Style Fries.” It also helps to beef up one of the simpler base menus in fast food, with In-N-Out only having three different types of burgers (hamburger, cheeseburger, and double cheeseburger), fries, and shakes.
Simply put, without the secret menu, In-N-Out’s offerings are straight-up boring. Yawn-fest.
I wish every fast food restaurant had an official secret menu, it would make ordering complicated menu hacks a lot easier for the customers and staff. Let’s face it, people aren’t going to stop being interested in menu hacks, so you might as well just give them a list of the most popular ones. To offer you exactly that, we’ve set out to rank the whole In-n-Out secret menu from least to the most essential orders, creating the definitive guide to dining at the restaurant.
9. Root Beer Float
Dane Rivera
What Is It?
1/2 vanilla shake + 1/2 root beer
Tasting Notes:
I get it, the idea of a root beer float sounds like a real winner — root beer floats are delicious, after all. But this isn’t really a root beer float, it’s a milkshake with some soda poured on top of it. I could see this working if In-N-Out had a specific ratio for this order that they then mixed back of house to combine the ingredients into some sort of creamy delight, but in my experience, they don’t.
This drink is wildly inconsistent and the two components never really join one another harmoniously. The root beer sits on top of a thick layer of milkshake, which forces you to reposition your straw from high to low in order to get both components in your mouth.
Given how thick In-N-Out shakes are, you’ll have to hold the root beer in your mouth while simultaneously trying to bring the shake up through the straw. It’s disastrous.
A typical In-N-Out burger build (bread + sauce + onions + lettuce + tomato + cheese) without the meat.
Tasting Notes:
I know a million vegetarians will be mad at me for this one but I think In-N-Out’s Grilled Cheese is wack. My vegetarian friends swear by this one, but having had it, I’m convinced they order it because they don’t want to feel left out.
The Grilled Cheese is a vegetarian’s compromise “Oh I really want In-N-Out but you’re vegetarian? Let’s meet up after lunch!” “No no, it’s fine, I’ll get a grilled cheese!”
My issue with this menu item is that In-N-Out doesn’t put any effort into it, they don’t flip the bun inside out and grill the ends in butter Five Guys style, they don’t assume you probably don’t want lettuce and present you with a different default build, nothing! They just take out the meat from a regular burger and knock off about a dollar for the subtotal.
Admittedly, In-N-Out’s bread and cheese is great, and adding grilled onions and chili peppers will do a lot to elevate the flavors (this should be part of the default build), but I can’t help feeling like In-N-Out could do a little more to make this vegetarian-friendly menu item at least a little bit special.
The Bottom Line:
You have to take things into your own hands to make it edible — ditch the lettuce, ask for grilled onions and chili peppers, and ask for it “extra toasted.” As it comes, it tastes like a menu item that nobody put any thought or care into.
7. Protein Style Burger
Dane Rivera
What Is It?
A typical In-N-Out burger build without the bun.
Tasting Notes:
Here is the thing about the Protein Style Burger — you have to get a Double Double for it to be any good. In-N-Out’s burger patties are incredibly small and skimpy, so if you order a single cheeseburger Protein Style it’s hard to taste any of the meat and cheese as all of the savory salty flavors get drowned out by the crisp-yet-watery lettuce.
A Protein Style cheeseburger feels like a real compromise, but a Protein Style Double Double works incredibly well. Without the distraction of the bun, it intensifies the flavor of the other ingredients and becomes much easier to focus in on the incredible quality of the meat patties and cheese.
The only bad part of this burger is how messy it is. It will fall apart as you eat it, make you second guess certain ingredients (mainly the sauce), and will often feel like the best way to enjoy it is with a knife and fork, which is no way to eat a burger.
The Bottom Line:
Order a Double Double Protein Style and you’ll actually be surprised at how little bread adds to the flavor experience. That said, the mess of eating it may be enough to turn you away from this burger forever.
A typical In-N-Out Burger build with an additional layer(s) of meat and cheese.
Tasting Notes:
I get the temptation to order this, In-N-Out burgers are relatively small, but I think everything in the build is portioned perfectly for a Double Double. This makes the 3×3, 4×4 or however high you want to go, taste slightly off-balance.
The higher you tower this burger the less flavor you get out of the onions, sauce, lettuce, and tomato, diluting the experience and replacing it with salt and beef. It’s dry and I think overall it weakens everything that makes a Double Double one of the best cheeseburgers in all of fast food. Admittedly, it looks insanely delicious, but it messes with the delicate balancing act that the OG nails.
The Bottom Line:
I recognize the temptation, but the more meat and cheese you pile onto a burger, the more it just starts to taste like salt and ground beef. A great burger is more than that.
5. Neapolitan Milkshake
Dane Rivera
What Is It?
Vanilla + Chocolate + Strawberry milkshake.
Tasting Notes:
While In-N-Out has the thickness of its shake down, the flavors have always come across as a bit too muted. The chocolate taste like echoes of chocolate, not rich and indulgent like a chocolate milkshake should taste. The strawberry is refreshing but a bit too intense and sweet, and the vanilla is almost flavorless. But mix them all together, and you have hands down In-N-Out’s best beverage.
The strawberry really dominates the overall flavor, but its intense sweetness is tamped down with creamy and chocolatey elements that make it come across as complex and interesting. The different flavors bloom across your palate offering something a bit different with every sip.
The Bottom Line:
In-N-Out’s best milkshake and in the running for one of the best milkshakes in all of fast food.
Two hamburger patties housing two pieces of American cheese.
Tasting Notes:
Like the Protein Style, the keto-friendly Flying Dutchman puts extra focus on the flavors of the meat and cheese. It’s beefy, savory, and incredibly salty and will melt in your mouth before you’re even done chewing it.
The best way to elevate this burger is by adding grilled onions into the mix. I’ve heard some people swear by ordering this “animal style” (mustard grilled patties, pickles, and extra sauce) but I’ve never personally ordered it because it sounds like a mess.
The Bottom Line:
Keto-friendly and incredibly beefy and savory. It’s similar to the protein style but with more intense flavors courtesy of the lack of watery lettuce.
3. Tomato Wrap
Dane Rivera
What Is It?
A typical In-N-Out burger build with the bun swapped out for four tomatoes.
Tasting Notes:
Clearly, In-N-Out regulars can’t get enough of swapping out the bun for something else. I’m surprised I haven’t seen anyone order an onion burger yet (a whole grilled onion serving as the bun might make that work!). What I like about the Tomato Wrap over the Protein Style and Flying Dutchman is the enhanced sense of umami this much tomato infuses into each bite.
In-N-Out has some of the best tomatoes in all of fast food, they’re always juicy and ripe — so much so that you don’t even need the sauce to make this an enjoyable meal. Each bite is bursting with a mix of salty and savory flavors, with the umami elevating and intensifying the flavor of the beef.
The Bottom Line:
The way the mix of flavors coat your tongue is something everyone should experience. This is a keeper!
2. Animal Style Fries
Dane Rivera
What Is It?
Fries + melted cheese + grilled onions + sauce
Tasting Notes:
In-N-Out fries get a lot of sh*t, which has always puzzled me because if you have a problem with fresh potatoes that are peeled and cut in-house and cooked to order, the problem isn’t the food, it’s you!
Are they the best French fries in fast food? Absolutely not, but they’re delicious so long as you add salt and pepper. But the best way to enjoy In-N-Out’s fries is without a doubt ordering them Animal Style.
Piling Thousand-Island style secret sauce, caramelized onions, and melted American cheese on top of a bed of fries creates forkful after forkful of bliss for the tastebuds. It’s tangy, slightly sweet, deep and savory, buttery and fragrant, and salty. Add chopped chilies to the dish and you get a bit of mild heat to pull it all together.
The Bottom Line:
If you’ve somehow convinced yourself that In-N-Out fries are bad give them a second chance and order them Animal Style. You’ll be treated to a medley of flavors that are downright addictive.
1. Animal Style Double Cheeseburger
Dane Rivera
What Is It?
Two mustard grilled meat patties + two slices of American cheese + lettuce + pickles + tomato + grilled onions + extra sauce
Tasting Notes:
Each bite is a mix of rich beefy flavors, salt, and tang courtesy of the mustard grilled patties. The initial tang is followed by a touch of sweetness from the caramelized onions and a bit of earthy / brine-y complexity from the juicy pickles. It is quite literally the In-N-Out burger experience, elevated.
My personal hack for this burger is adding chilis, which adds a very mild almost sweet spice to the mix, helping to deepen the flavors and making the aftertaste a little more pleasant and addicting. But vinegar-soaked chilies aren’t for everyone, so I decided to rank this burger as it comes — which is still very delicious.
The Bottom Line:
If this is your first time at In-N-Out, you have to order your burger Animal Style, especially if you’re visiting from out of state. There is a reason this chain has achieved legendary status and unfortunately, those reasons aren’t always apparent to outsiders who don’t know about the secret menu.
The Cincinnati Bengals have made the Super Bowl and AFC Championship game the last two seasons, as Joe Burrow’s emergence at quarterback has allowed them to take a leap into being a perennial contender in the AFC. Burrow has thrown for over 9,000 yards in the last two seasons, with 69 touchdowns to just 26 interceptions, cementing his place as one of the NFL’s brightest young stars.
Coming into the 2023 season, expectations are once again high in Cincinnati, largely due to Burrow’s presence under center. However, as has become an all-too-familiar sight at the start of training camp this year, Burrow is the latest high profile player to suffer an injury, this time to his lower right leg as he pulled up scrambling to his right and went down.
Shortly after, the injury cart was brought out for Burrow who didn’t seem to be putting much if any weight on that right leg as he hopped onto the cart.
It is incredibly unfortunate to see Burrow leaving practice this way, but it does come with the caveat that at training camp guys are much more likely to get carted off for a lesser injury than in a game. That’s both out of precaution and also because getting to the training room at many camps requires a much farther walk than at a stadium or practice facility. Hopefully this is one of those cases and this is a cramp or a muscle tweak and not something worse, but Bengals fans will be holding their breath until we get official word on the severity of Burrow’s injury and a potential timeline for his return.
Bengals coach Zac Taylor called it a “calf issue” in his talk with reporters after practice.
Zac Taylor says it was a calf issue for Burrow. They’ll know more soon.
Esther Wojcicki has earned the right to tell people how to raise their kids. She’s an educator, journalist and bestselling author of “How to Raise Successful People” who has raised three daughters—two are CEOs and the other a doctor.
Susan Wojcicki is the CEO of YouTube, Anne Wojcicki is the co-founder and CEO of 23andMe and Dr. Janet Wojcicki is an anthropologist and epidemiologist who works on HIV progression and obesity risk in children.
In “How to Raise Successful People” Esther Wojcicki says the secret to success is the result of “TRICK”: trust, respect, independence, collaboration and kindness. In a new article she wrote for NBC Chicago, she boiled that down to one rule, “Don’t do anything for your kids that they can do for themselves.”
“Parents need to stop coddling their kids,” she continues. “The more you trust your children to do things on their own, the more empowered they’ll be. The key is to begin with guided practice: It’s the ‘I do, we do, you do’ method.”
The “I do, we do, you do” method is used by teachers to gradually give students new responsibilities. The teacher first demonstrates the task, then they do it with the student and finally, the student does it alone.
u201cSisters Anne Wojcicki, CEO of 23andMe, and Susan Wojcicki, CEO of YouTube, are ranked among Americau2019s top women entrepreneurs nhttps://t.co/En8Vin9Zl7 #SelfMadeWomenu201d
Wojcicki says that parents can start with their children by asking them to make their beds, pick their own outfits and to help with dishes and making dinner. It’s funny that every child is raised by a parent who cooks them meals, but an astonishing number of them grow up having no idea how to boil water. Why? Because nobody bothered to get them involved.
As the old saying goes, “Give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day. Teach him to fish and he’ll eat forever.”
u201cFor all you parents out there. nYou may want to do something “unpopular” while raising your kids, “How to Raise Successful People” author Esther Wojcicki says. https://t.co/GEkHHnN5q5u201d
— NBC10 Philadelphia (@NBC10 Philadelphia) 1667227982
“The idea is to teach them how to cope with what life throws at them,” she writes. “One of the most important lessons I taught my daughters is that the only thing you can control is how you react to things.”
Wojcicki’s rules are a reaction to the modern trend of helicopter parenting, which is “overly focused on their children” where parents “take too much responsibility for their children’s experiences and, specifically, their successes or failures.” This can result in children who grow into adults with lower self-confidence and self-esteem, poor coping skills, increased anxiety and a sense of entitlement.
Simply put, when children are too dependent on their parents, they become ill-equipped to deal with real-world challenges. So when parents think they’re helping their children, they are actually setting them up for failure. Is it any wonder why we live in an age where more and more people suffer from crippling anxiety and depression? The world is a lot scarier when you’re not properly equipped to deal with everyday problems.
“When you trust kids to make their own decisions, they start to feel more engaged, confident and empowered,” Wojcicki writes. “And once that happens, there’s no limit to what they can achieve.”
While, at first, this dramatic change in parenting may seem difficult for parents who have a hard time letting go, it’s an opportunity for them to grow. “What I realized, through a lot of conscious effort, is that parenting gives us perhaps the most profound opportunity to grow as human beings,” she writes in “How to Raise Successful People.”
We all know parenting can be tough, but if there’s one thing that makes the roller coaster of emotions totally worth it, it’s seeing our children’s faces light up with joy.
Children’s smiles are infectious, and not in the scary pandemic kind of a way. There’s simply nothing better in this world than the face of a bright-eyed little human beaming with happiness, which is why a recent TikTok trend has people grinning from ear to ear themselves.
The premise is simple: The parent asks the kid to record them dancing to Taylor Swift‘s “Love Story” with the screen facing away from them (under the guise that the parent dancing needs to see themselves). So instead of recording the parent dancing, it’s actually recording the kid’s face watching them.
And oh, the love and joy on these kids’ faces is so, so sweet to witness. Watch:
The end did it for me 🥹😭I birthed such a sweet, loving and encouraging little boy!! #momtok #toddlersoftiktok #taylorswiftchallenge #lovestorychallenge #boymom #toddlermom
Seriously, seeing close-ups of kids’ joy should be a daily thing.
Had to jump on the trend! Love this beautiful girl!
Of course, part of the beauty of having kids is you simply never know what they’re going to do. While some youngsters gaze lovingly at their parents while they dance, others have a … well … different reaction. Check out this girl’s facial expressions:
Hilarious. And because this is the internet, naturally someone had to do the TikTok trend with their dog. Gotta admit, Ellie’s toothy grin is pretty darn cute as well.
TikTok trends can sometimes be strange, annoying or problematic, but once in a while one comes along that brings people together in surprisingly delightful ways. Seeing people’s kids’ pure enjoyment watching their parents being silly is simply the best.
Adolescence is a harrowing time for body image and self-esteem all around, but few milestones are as universally daunting as finding a prom dress. Whether it’s due to budget constraints, not being able to find a dress that fits, or both, what should be a fun event is often viscerally dreaded.
This was certainly the case for Summer Lucille. Lucille told Today.com that growing up, “if you weren’t skinny, there weren’t many options, and it was devastating for me because I’ve always loved fashion.”
She recalled, “I went to my prom looking like a church lady in a suit dress with a jacket because it was the only thing that fit. It was a very sad period in my life.”
Wanting to ensure a more positive experience for others, Lucille opened up her plus-size-only dress shop, Juicy Body Goddess, in 2016. The boutique, based in North Carolina, features mostly Lucille’s own designs of formal dresses up to a size 6X.
Juicy Body Goddess really started gaining traction when Lucille set up a TikTok account sharing truly joyful interactions with customers as they try on different styles.
Besides having an eye for fashion, Lucille is a masterful hype woman, making others feel beautiful with her enthusiastic, heartfelt praises. She clearly loves what she does. Here’s one of many, many examples:
Juicy Goddess’s TikTok presence is how 18-year-old Elyse Monroe found out about the store. Monroe and her family drove nearly six hours for a consultation, determined to find the perfect dress.
Lucille shared with People that Monroe was initially “nervous and shy,” but after trying on a sparkly, form-fitting purple gown, everything changed.
“When she got into that purple dress, she lit up,” Lucille told People.
There was still a budget problem, however. Monroe’s family could only afford to pay $400. The dress was $700.
Thankfully, Lucille had one more surprise up her sleeve.
A now viral TikTok video shows the Monroe family approach the register, asking how much the dress would cost.
Lucille can be heard saying, “This dress is $700…but it’s free.”
Yeah, as you can probably expect, this leaves the teen and her family a bit emotional. Watch below:
The video has had an overwhelming number of responses. Many commiserated with their own painful prom memories and applauded Lucille for her generosity. Some were even inspired to perform their own act of kindness by donating. Lucille told People that since posting the video, there has been $12,000 worth of gift card purchases. Yowza.
This is such an amazing example of what can happen when we celebrate uniqueness, spread generosity, and prioritize making everyone feel worthy of praise.

House fires are devastating for families. In a matter of minutes, you could lose all of your belongings and a place to live, or worse, you could lose loved ones. A family in Phoenix, Arizona, recently found themselves facing the reality of their own home in flames. Claudia Jimenez told CBS News that she woke up trapped in her burning apartment with her two daughters, with nothing to do but yell for help in the hopes that someone would hear her.
The mom’s screams were answered by Joe Hollins, a homeless man who was camping nearby with his wife. Hollins didn’t hesitate to try to find a way to help. With no way out and the fire department still nowhere on the scene, Jimenez had to trust the stranger who was standing below.
“He was right underneath and he was like ‘Yes, throw your daughters out, I’m going to catch them, I’m going to get them,'” Jimenez told CBS.
So the terrified mom did what any mom would’ve done to save her babies—she tossed them one at a time out the window. And just as he’d promised, Hollins caught them. Valerie, who is just a year old, was dropped to safety first, then 8-year-old Natalie made the two-story fall into Hollins’ arms. The family dogs were next out the window before it was time for Jimenez to make the jump.
After some coaxing, the mom made the leap, and Hollins again made the catch, saving everyone in the house. When everything was said and done, Hollins saved the entire family and the dogs. Soon after Jimenez jumped to safety, the fire department showed up to put out the blaze.
Multiple families lost their home that night, but thanks to Hollins, the Jimenez family didn’t lose their lives. In an effort to help Hollins after saving this family, a GiveSendGo was created and people can donate here. A GoFundMe was also created for the young mom and her daughters, and people who would like to help can do so by donating here.
If you ask the hero, he’s no hero at all. He told CBS News that anyone in his shoes would’ve done the same thing. Hollins was in the right place at the right time, and because of his willingness to help, he saved an entire family. You can watch the entire interview below.
Costco has earned a passionately dedicated following thanks to offering a plethora of quality items at cheaper prices. Legendary cakes, generic products that truly rival their name-brand counterparts, the eternal $1.50 hot dog and soda meal combo…the list goes on and on.
Seemingly anything can be purchased at this magical place without breaking the bank. Even destination honeymoons.
Budget-savvy TikTok creator Avery Perkins recently shared with her thousands of followers how she and her fiancé John Weakley were able to save $1000 on a decadent honeymoon package thanks to Costco Travel.
Actually, make that $1300 with the bonus gift card they received.
Costco Travel is a lesser-known member perk that curates vacation packages at a heavily discounted rate. That includes hotels, cruises, theme parks, rental cars, airfare and more. Basically, it’s the same bulk-buying concept as purchasing 50 rolls of toilet paper, only applied to galavanting across the globe.
In an interview with Insider, Perkins shared how she and Weakley had heard of Costco Travel but never actually used it until they began planning their honeymoon trip to island of St. Lucia in the Caribbean. The vacation package they settled on was going to cost them $8,700.
Their pastor, who had just returned from a trip to Italy, recommended they try booking through Costco. There they found a resort package identical to the one they had seen elsewhere for $1000 less.
Shocked, Perkins called the hotel to make sure this was the real deal. It was.
“I called the resort itself and I said, ‘Hey, is this legit? Is there some caveat or do I need to listen to some presentation or something to save this money?'” Perkins told Insider. “They’re like, ‘No, not at all. Actually, we can’t beat it. The moment you bring up Costco, we just bow out and say, look, we can’t price match it, so just go ahead and book through Costco.”
Hence why Perkins posted her TikTok, because people “are not giving Miss Costco Travel the attention she deserves.”
Of course, this option does come with a few caveats and might not be for everyone.
For starters, Costco Travel doesn’t use low cost-carriers like JetBlue or Spirit, meaning you could possibly get a better deal on a package that does offer flights with those airlines. Similar situation for rental cars—it only books through Alamo, Avis, Budget, and Enterprise—and hotels as well.
Plus, as of right now, Costco Travel only seems to have packages in a handful of states, along with Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean and Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Europe, Fiji, Tahiti and maybe a few “additional destinations.” Still lots of options, but not all the options.
Regardless, it’s great to know that at a time when so many of us are having to be very budget-conscious, the excitement of travel doesn’t have to be inaccessible.
