Drake Will Welcome Bras — Not Phones And Glasses — To Be Thrown At Him On The ‘It’s All A Blur Tour’

Janelle Monáe demanded that the public stop policing their areolas at Essence Fest 2023. Drake is taking it further regarding the stage rules for the It’s All A Blur Tour. The “Search & Rescue” rapper is aware of the alarming new concert trend of hurling items at entertainers. In an attempt to meet ticketholders in the middle, Drake declared that he would welcome bras — not phones and glasses — to be thrown at him.

During the tour’s Chicago show, the recording artist asked the crowd, “Can we set a new stage rule for the tour?”

He then followed up, saying, “If you’re going to throw things up here, just make it bras only. Just know! Like I don’t need new cell phones, new sunglasses — I don’t need nothing. I just need titties. Things that cover titties. That’s all I need.”

In response, a fan in the crowd shouted something to the effect of “There’s some over here,” and the rapper quickly turned around to yell, “Where?”

The compromise might force venues to raise the minimum age of patrons. However, looking on the bright side, it will undoubtedly change the mood in the venue to a much perkier energy.

The Fridge Showdown Showed Cousin Richie’s True Emotional Evolution On ‘The Bear’ In Season 2

It’s easy to wince when the conversation turns to 40s guys like Richie Jerimovich (Ebon Moss-Bachrachon) on The Bear having a hard time with change and the feeling that they’re being replaced. Remarks, acts, or policies designed to shame, harm, or halt progress often seem to follow as they lash out. Unsurprisingly, this can cause those statements of fear and insecurity to lose their emotional power as an invitation for empathy.

Richie isn’t trying to stop progress, though. He’s trying to stay in the flow, gritting his teeth and willing his way to relevancy. His big dumb heart is in the right place when he overcompensates, trying to take charge and get things done during a messy renovation that’ll turn The Beef into an upscale spot worthy of a Michelin star. But Richie’s a narcissist, so of course he assumes that his is the only way when it comes to dealing with a mold problem and that The Beef’s neighbor won’t mind if they siphon some electricity from them. That last bit is a typical Richie move, signaling at this second season’s halfway point that he’s the same reliably dim, disruptive, comic relief character that he was in the first season. But by the final moments of the season finale, we understand that Richie might be the emotional core of The Bear and a cautionary tale in a nice suit.

This season’s 6th episode, ‘Fishes,’ is all about family trauma. Jamie Lee Curtis is going to get trophies for the work she does as the Berzatto family matriarch, Donna, in the episode (which is set 5 years in the past). Ditto Jon Bernthal for his return engagement as Carmy’s (Jeremy Allen White) brother, Mikey. Together they and a slew of other guest stars (Bob Odenkirk, John Mulaney, and Sarah Paulson) firmly establish the tumult that Carmy was raised around, how some people tried to keep him clear of the blast radius, and the blend of PTSD and people-pleasing that have the kitchen prodigy all twisted up inside. Off to the side, though, there’s a full helping of heartbreak coming from Richie and his efforts to ease the worries of his then-pregnant wife, Tiffany (Gillian Jacobs), by begging Jimmy (Oliver Platt) for a job and then providing an overly sunny view of his chances of getting said job before he gets bailed out (Platt is, as always, outstanding).

We know, of course, that Richie and Tiffany’s marriage falls apart eventually and that he is, essentially, stuck in place, trying to be a good dad and hoping to win his wife back without much hope.

When Richie finds out, in episode 7, ‘Forks,’ that Tiffany is getting remarried, we feel like we know how this is going to go. He was already feeling like he was fading away at work, especially after being exiled. But while he lives out that anger for a second, he finds rope at rock bottom leading him up toward inspiration and illumination around the idea that he can make people happy, not just fed while working at a restaurant.

‘Forks’ is a brilliant stand-alone episode that sets up Richie’s part in the intricately choreographed actions of the season finale. In that episode, it’s friends and family night, a kind of final stress test/soft launch for the new restaurant and Richie is confidently keeping the beat in the kitchen after everything that could go wrong does. It’s impressive and the cap on a story of professional redemption, but it’s not the true GOAT moment for the character and actor Ebon Moss-Bachrachon. That comes after he sees his “cousin” Carmy’s girlfriend, Clare, leave the kitchen shattered after overhearing Carmy’s explosion of anger over daring to allow himself a pinhole of light and love in the dark of his obsessive career goals.

It can be easy to see the suit and the confidence, the skill and personality on display, and look at Richie as a changed man. And in a lot of ways, he is, but he surely realizes (as we should) that work was all he had at the start of the season and it’s all he has at the end. He’s just better at the job now. This is still a guy who lost something big when he lost his wife and a daily presence in his kid’s life. Something irreplaceable. That’s a hard-learned lesson and one he’d probably like to spare others from learning, and so he and Carmy argue with fire and bile and it’s ugly, but it’s also kinda beautiful.

Nothing levels you more than a fight with the people who love you and know you. They’re unfazed by the flexes and the bullshit. They know the weak spots and they go for them over and over again. It’s not fair, it’s love and hurt combining to cause the maximum amount of pain and maybe, just maybe, the maximum impact.

Carmy is a mess through all of this, only able to see the events of that night and the last few weeks as a failure (even though Richie and the kitchen managed to pull it off without him) driven by what he has to define as selfish behavior to poison the well and scare himself away from relapsing into Clare’s arms. He’s a literal caged animal and reacts as such. Richie is, well he’s Richie, so he gives it right back, but there’s something else going on.

Richie calls Carmy by his mom’s name because he can’t “let something good happen” and Carmy calls Richie a loser and a leach –expressways to each man’s deepest insecurities. Carmy says he’s the reason Richie is able to support his kid and Richie gets right back to the point of his argument by saying, “At least I’ve got a kid, you don’t have shit!” It’s mutually assured destruction with the red buttons getting smashed by each side. But Richie stands in. He takes it, repeating, “I fucking love you” near the end.

Richie’s willing to take everything Carmy has if it means he might get through to his cousin because that’s what you do when you love someone — you stand in and you try to tell them if they’re about to step on a rake. And Carmy is stepping on a rake, as he seems to realize later when he plays back Clare’s voicemail.

That Richie is able to take all these blows without throwing up his hands and walking away, wounded and pissed off, is the true demonstration of all the character has accomplished this season. He knows who he is and what he’s about as sure as he knows everything he’s lost and what he’s trying to hold onto — his purpose, his kid, his family, which includes Carmy and everyone at The Bear. Forget why he’s in Van Halen, he’s in the band, the band needs him, and he wants to stay.

Meatball Ron DeSantis Is Reportedly Tanking Florida’s Tourist Economy Thanks To His ‘Unfriendly Political Environment’

Ron DeSantis has already been slammed by both Republicans and Democrats for his “anti-woke” feud with Disney, which has already threatened job creation in the state of Florida. Now, a new report paints an even broader picture of DeSantis’ impact on the Sunshine State’s tourist economy.

According to Visit Lauderdale, formerly known as the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, conventions are bailing on Florida thanks to the “unfriendly political environment.” Some organizations even went so far as to specifically name DeSantis as their reason for canceling.

Via South Florida Sun Sentinel:

“We were so close on this one,” reads the notes on the entry for the 2024 National Family and Community Engagement and Community Schools Conference, which needed more than 2,000 rooms and has bailed. “But, group decided to pull out of Florida due to concerns about what the Governor is doing in the education/schools and that he will likely run in 2024. They do not want to lose attendees due to this.”

Under the explanation for a nationally funded Mississippi-based organization that deals with health care workers, the reason simply reads: “Governor DeSantis.”

Other groups cited the “assault on diversity and equity and inclusion” by DeSanits as their reason for pulling out, and Visit Lauderdale CEO Stacy Ritter said the loss of conventions will be disastrous for local economies.

“From an economic standpoint, this is very harmful. We saw in 2020 what happens when visitors stay away — people lose their jobs,” Ritter told the Sun Sentinel. “By not coming here, the residents of our county, whose values align with these organizations, get hurt. Minority, women and LGBTQ+ businesses rely on visitors for their existence. Staying away hurts those very people.”

Dominic Fike Was Almost Fired From ‘Euphoria’ Because He Was ‘So F*cked Up’ On Drugs During Scenes

Now that The Idol has reached its ignominious end, attention is likely to return to its co-creator Sam Levinson’s other controversial show, Euphoria, which has also received its fair share of negative press lately. While many of the reports about troublesome behind-the-scenes behavior have revolved around the treatment of its female stars, it looks like their male counterparts weren’t exempt from scrutiny.

In an interview with Zane Lowe, singer-songwriter Dominic Fike, who plays Elliot on Euphoria, said he was nearly fired from the show for his drug use. “I was so f**ked up during a lot of that show,” he said. “I was reprimanded for it. I almost, you know, got kicked off the show.”

He even admitted that Levinson — himself no stranger to substance abuse issues — got him a “sober coach,” but that it didn’t work as planned. “Sam [Levinson], the director and writer, got me a sober coach, somebody to be there all the time,” Fike said. “It did not work.”

Fike released his second album, Sunburn, today after releasing the singles “Ant Pile” and “Mama’s Boy.” The album only contains one feature: The rock band Weezer. Fike also made a splash with his contribution to the Across The Spider-Verse Soundtrack, “Mona Lisa.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene Apparently Refuses To Let Anyone Inform Her About Getting Booted From The House Freedom Caucus

This week, the House Freedom Caucus finally broke its silence on whether or not it had voted to expel Marjorie Taylor Greene over her spat with Lauren Boebert and continued allegiance to House Speaker Kevin McCarthy. According to reports, the Georgia congresswoman was in fact ousted during the secretive vote.

Publicly, Greene has yet to acknowledge the situation, and she’s reportedly doing the same behind closed doors. House Freedom Caucus members have attempted to contact Greene to let her know she’s been booted, but she’s reportedly refused to answer the phone before and after the vote.

Via Axios:

“She was unresponsive and resisted and refused efforts to meet with or talk with Chairman Perry, and so the vote was held without that conversation being held,” the HFC board member said. “It’s my understanding that after the vote took place by the general membership, that she also refused to meet with or talk with Chairman Perry — I suspect it was somewhat like someone refusing to be served legal documents.”

According to Axios, Greene was ousted by an “overwhelming vote” thanks to her being an extra special member to deal with.

“She was unique among the Freedom Caucus members in her attack on other members of the Freedom Caucus during the speaker battle, who shared a different view than hers with respect to now Speaker McCarthy,” the board member said.

It also didn’t help Greene’s case that she “rarely” came to meetings or participated in House caucus activities over the past six months. Her attacks on Boebert and backing McCarthy’s debt ceiling bill were the final nails in the coffin.

Janelle Monáe Keeps The Hedonistic, Barely-Clothed Party Going In The New ‘Water Slide’ Video

Janelle Monáe’s latest album is called The Age Of Pleasure, and indeed, Monáe has been enjoying a pleasurable age. That was most evident in May, when she shared the video for “Lipstick Lover,” a visual full of butts and bodies and kissing and dancing and all sorts of other means of people enjoying their time. Monáe dropped a new video for “Water Slide” today and it features more of the same.

The whole video has a very similar vibe to the “Lipstick Lover” clip, with a bunch of people wearing not much clothing as they enjoy moving, swimming, singing, dancing, and each other. Like “Lipstick Lover” before it, “Water Slide,” both the song and the video, are the perfect embodiment of summertime fun.

In an interview from back in May, a simple statement from Monáe succinctly encapsulated the entire vibe of The Age Of Pleasure: “I’m much happier when my titties are out and I can run around free.”

Chris Christie Feels Pretty Darn Sure That Trump Will Face Jail Time If He Goes To Trial On Those Classified Document Charges

Chris Christie stopped by CNN this week where he painted a dire picture of Donald Trump‘s legal predicament as the former president faces a damning federal indictment for his mishandling of classified documents at Mar-a-Lago.

Jake Tapper asked Christie if there’s hope for an acquittal by taking the charges to court in Southern Florida where Trump won during the 2020 election and could easily find a friendly jury. The former New Jersey governor, who has experience as a U.S. attorney, called the move a “real roll of the dice” particularly because the former New Jersey governor believes Trump “knows he’s guilty.”

Via Mediaite:

Basically, the way most U.S. attorney’s offices handle that is, if you plead, we can work with you in terms of whether you have to go to jail or not on some of the charges that he’s talking about here. If you make the case go to trial, if you force us to go and put the witnesses on stand and the judge to take the time and the jury to take the time, and you’re prosecuted and convicted, then it’s almost certain that you would face jail.

Christie also shot down the suggestion that politics would influence the jury.

“I never found a jury — and we did 130 political corruption cases during my seven years. I never found a jury, Jake, that was focused on politics,” Christie said. “And even if they have certain points of view or prejudices — we all do — they really take it seriously when the judge says, you have to put that aside and judge this only based on the facts that are presented here in this courtroom.”

Jon Hamm Plays A Bushy-Mustached, Paranoid Office Worker In The Bizarre-Looking ‘Corner Office’ Trailer

If Office Space represented the 1990s feeling about office work with its slacker sarcasm rooted in ennui, Corner Office seems to join the modern riff alongside Severance where uncomfortable weirdness and surrealism dominate the zeitgeist.

In the film, directed by Oscar-winning short film director Joachim Back, Jon Hamm plays an office drone named Orson who discovers a secret, gorgeously-appointed hidden room that no one else seems to be able to see. Instead, they watch their colleague stand and stare at the wall down the hall for hours on end.

If it weren’t a comedy, it would be a psychological thriller.

The pacing, the awkward comedy, the surreal nature of the office with its high-stakes nonsense rules brought into stark relief. It’s all magical, but the best part is how earnest Orson’s paranoia is. Instead of seeming bewildered and confused about the possible realities (he’s crazy, or there’s really a secret room), he’s intent on there being a cover-up and plays every line of dialogue and action accordingly. Hamm is a stellar pick for the cast, and not just because that mustache is outrageously wonderful on him.

The movie also stars Danny Pudi and Sarah Gadon. Corner Office hits theaters on August 4th.

Swifties Are Swooning Over Photos Of Taylor Swift With Selena Gomez, Haim, And More Spending The 4th Of July Together

Taylor Swift is as independent as ever. Earlier this year, she and Joe Alwyn, her longtime boyfriend, broke up. Then, it was reported that she was dating Matty Healy, until they went separate ways as well.

She was a little too busy to make a post for the 4th Of July, but she got around to it today (June 7). On Twitter, she shared wholesome photos with Selena Gomez, the Haim sisters (Alana, Este, and Danielle), and friends. “Happy belated Independence Day from your local neighborhood independent girlies,” she wrote, adding the emoji with sunglasses. “See you tonight Kansas Cityyy.”

The photos were well received, as “Taylor Swift And Selena Gomez” was a trending topic on Twitter following Swift’s post.

The “Anti-Hero” singer is in the midst of The Eras Tour, which keeps becoming bigger and bigger as she adds more dates and as it makes its way toward grossing one billion dollars.

Meanwhile, Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) is out today, and it features a collaboration with Fall Out Boy on “Electric Touch” as well as one with Paramore’s Hayley Williams on “Castles Crumbling,” the latter of which fans are speculating is about the 2009 VMAs incident involving Kanye West. Rapper Drake jokingly congratulated her on the release, sharing a photo of himself with a lookalike and writing on his Instagram Story, “Congrats on the drop sis. Dialed In.”
