Damian Lillard Was On An IG Live While Will Smith’s ‘Miami’ Played In The Funniest Coincidence Of The Offseason

The Portland Trail Blazers decided to take the No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft on G League Ignite guard Scoot Henderson, and depending on what you believe, this might mean that Damian Lillard is going to seriously weigh asking out. Of course, there’s no guarantee this is going to happen, and Lillard has even said he expects to start next year in Portland.

Regardless, there is a line of thought that Lillard has no interest in a youth movement and wants to compete, which has led to speculation that his time with the Blazers may be running out. One team that is reportedly preparing for that to happen is the Miami Heat, which are constantly star-hunting and view Lillard as a potential fit. That’s nothing more than rumors at this point, but in a pretty unfortunate twist for Lillard, an Instagram Live broadcast on Friday made headlines because of the song playing in the background: “Miami” by Will Smith.

According to Sam Amick of The Athletic, Lillard is currently in Paris and this song came on at a club. Amick spoke to Lillard’s agent, Aaron Goodwin, who explained that this was quite the unintended turn of fate.

“The music was just a coincidence,” Goodwin said. “Damian’s not disrespectful. He’s not an instigator, so he’s not going to do anything out of character. There would be no reason for him to do that. That’s why he laughed (in the video). It’s a funny coincidence that a DJ would put that on.”

There have been a whole lot of weird twists and turns with Lillard’s future this offseason, but I will confidently say this is, so far, the weirdest.

Celine Dion’s ‘Titanic’ Theme Song Got A Streaming Boost After The Submarine Tragedy

Celine Dion is seeing a significant boost in streams for none other than her Titanic soundtrack contribution, “My Heart Will Go On,” following the news of the Titan submersible accident involving those who went down trying to see the ship’s wreckage.

Dion, according to TMZ, has seen a jump of over 500,000 listens to the song in just a few days.

Unfortunately, those aboard the Titan submarine were reported to have passed away after the US Navy found acoustic data that was “consistent with an implosion or explosion in the general vicinity of where the Titan submersible was operating when communications were lost,” according to the Associated Press.

Debris from the Titan was also eventually found to confirm their fates.

After the spread of the initial disappearance broke last Sunday, James Cameron, the director of Titanic, has since shared his thoughts about the similarities between both incidents.

“I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself — where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship, and yet he steamed at full speed into an ice field on a moonless night, and many people died as a result,” Cameron said to ABC News, as he has traveled to the Titanic site over 30 times.

Dion herself has not commented on the song since it made headlines.

Lizzo Is Giving Back To Her Houston Alma Mater With A Special New Scholarship For Black Music Students

As part of her Juneteenth giveback series, Lizzo announced a special new Sasha Be Flooting scholarship, complete with a $50,000 donation, in order to give back to Black music students attending the University of Houston — which is her alma mater.

“Today is very close to my heart, near and dear to home and a milestone for me,” Lizzo shared in an Instagram video. “It is for any young Black student from Houston, Texas who has applied to go to University of Houston to study at the Moores School of Music. That was me just a couple years ago, a young Black flute player who just needed a scholarship and someone to believe in them. Now I get to pay it forward.”

“We’ll be announcing who is the winner of that prize very, very soon,” she added.

Ahead of her scholarship announcement, Lizzo also teased it with a separate throwback Instagram post of herself playing flute during her Houston college days.

Fans in the replies of Lizzo’s post were admiring her dedication to giving back to where she came from. “As a former flute player you have no idea how much I admire you and look up to you,” one fan wrote. “I got accepted to the University of Houston (not studying music) and I love that you went there as well!”

“I wish more artists would do this,” another added. “Because it would make college so much more accessible.”

In addition to donating to the school, Lizzo has also given $50,000 to “Black-led grass roots businesses and organizations,” including the Sphinx Organization, Black Girls Smile, and the Marsha P. Johnson Institute so far in the series.

Cardi B’s Peacock Tattoo: The History Behind The Massive Design

As of last November, Cardi B had 13 known tattoos, according to Popsugar. While some of the rapper’s designs are dedicated to her two children, including a face tattoo of Wave’s name, the cryptic nature of her other tattoos might have casual fans wondering why she got them.

She has two massive designs on her body. The first is her most recent: a giant stream of flowers and butterflies that goes from her thigh to her upper back. Cardi got this one done, at least when it was revealed, around May 2020, courtesy of Jamie Schene.

Schene also reportedly touched up the second of Cardi’s giant tattoos, as she has a large peacock on her other leg and hip. The original piece was tattoed in 2010 before Cardi decided to add more colorful feathers and a butterfly addition — just to match her other leg.

“So after ten years I gave my peacock tattoo a makeover. This whole week I been takin hours of pain getting tatted,” Cardi previously captioned a photo of her touch-up. After a decade, the update made the tattoo a lot more vibrant than it originally had been.

As for the meaning of Cardi’s peacock tattoo, the Bronx rapper has never confirmed exactly why she got it — compared to other names tattooed on her that are more straightforward in meaning. However, considering the colorful nature, it simply might just be a representation of her fun and energetic personality.

Check out the photo of the tattoo above.

Ilsey has announced her debut album, From The Valley, which will arrive this fall. To give listeners an idea of what to expect, she also shared another single, “No California.” The ’70s-inspired track opens the album and sets the tone with folksy, carefree energy.

From The Valley comes from a deep dark valley of the heart,” Ilsey said about the album in a statement. “A drive through that winding valley of self-doubt, longing, delusion, and ultimately hope, trying to find a way back home.”

Some moments from history are almost too funny to be true. People shared their favorites.

Everyone reacts to tragic news differently. It all depends on a number of factors: Who is involved, how did it happen, how close are we to those who suffered and how did we learn about the news in the first place?

In some tragic situations, people have found that responding with humor, even very dark humor, is the best way to process tough information. Moments that might seem insensitive might in fact just be a perfectly natural part of the grieving process. And as time passes, it often gets easier to make light of some of the darkest of times.

History is no exception.

Think of jokes about the Lincoln assassination. In fact, you’ve probably heard a million COVID jokes already and maybe even some at your own expense.

And really, no matter the stomach you have for tragic humor, it’s undeniable the internet has completely changed the way we react to historical events. Everyone is allowed a take—what’s tragic to one is comedy to another. We can’t even agree on what facts are anymore, let alone what might be funny.

However, there are certain obscure moments of the past that can elicit a universal chuckle from anyone. Had these instances happened today, they surely would have broken the internet. But as it stands, they remain untouched.

We have Reddit user u/crooked_yellow to thank for this history lesson since they asked: “Which event from history will always be funny?

King Taejong, whose claim to fame is literally trying to cover up falling off a horse

Ancient Korea had special recording officials, whose job was to record everything. They were considered separate from the government, so the emperor of the time wasn’t allowed to give them orders or tell them not to record something.

Of course, some emperors would try anyway.

On one occasion, an emperor fell off his horse while hunting. The recorder nearby wrote it down. The emperor insisted that it be removed from the record, and even tried to have the report destroyed.

This lead to some nonsense as the emperor kept destroying their work, but the recorders kept copying it and hiding it in increasingly obscure places. And of course, recorded the whole thing as it happened.

A few hundred years later, and the only thing that emperor is famous for is trying to hide the fact he fell off his horse.” —@lankymjc

Victor Lustig, the con man who sold the Eiffel Tower…twice

Okay, one might find it distasteful to marvel at a guy cheating people out of money, but the man was passionate about his hobby. He even made a list of 10 Commandments for would-be swindlers. So, you know, giving back to the community…right? And he was good at his job. Perhaps even more noteworthy than making a pretty penny off a tourist attraction is Lustig‘s famed Romanian Box the printed fake currency and conning Al Capone himself out of $5000.

As @bard-security astutely put it, “Victor Lustig is a freaking legend.”

Except instead of dying, the monkey just kept climbing up the rope. Because it was a monkey.

As the story goes, Xerxes tried to build a bridge across the Dardanelles to get to Greece faster. Alas, a storm destroyed the bridge. ‘”Infuriated with the sea,” Xerxes ordered his soldiers to punish it by whipping it with chains 300 times and poking it with red-hot irons. Handcuffs were also tossed into the water to symbolize the sea’s submission to his authority.

And last but not least:

President Jimmy Carter getting attacked by a rabbit while paddling around in a rowboat.

“The president was minding his own business rowing around a small pond and fishing when a rabbit left the shore and swam deliberately towards the boat, apparently crazed. Carter splashed the rabbit with water, driving it away from the boat. According to Press Secretary Jody Powell:

‘Upon closer inspection, the animal turned out to be a rabbit. Not one of your cutesy, Easter Bunny-type rabbits, but one of those big splay-footed things that we called swamp rabbits when I was growing up.

The animal was clearly in distress, or perhaps berserk. The President confessed to having had limited experience with enraged rabbits. He was unable to reach a definite conclusion about its state of mind. What was obvious, however, was that this large, wet animal, making strange hissing noises and gnashing its teeth, was intent upon climbing into the Presidential boat.’

Staff back on shore initially didn’t believe the president’s account, but a photographer managed to capture the moment:

Will Olivia Rodrigo Go On Tour Soon?

Olivia Rodrigo is just a few weeks away from dropping her new single, “Vampire,” which is highly-anticipated as the suspected first preview from her sophomore album. While little is known about the track or album yet, there is a high probability that with this era, Rodrigo will be hitting the road once more.

The pop star’s last tour was for her debut album, Sour was fully sold out, with the final date being held in London last July. In November, she also made a brief appearance to cover Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony.

Given Rodrigo’s popularity and the size of the venues, many fans struggled to get tickets through Ticketmaster at face value or reasonable prices on Stubhub — as resale costs were boosted from the demand.

If Rodrigo does tour at all for the new album, it seems making the leap to larger venues would be the best option. This could include ones like Madison Square Garden (which she already has performed at, by making an appearance at Billy Joel’s residency) and similar capacity sizes across the country.

However, it will still be a while before fans would likely catch her live, as Rodrigo would have to announce the tour dates at least a few months in advance. And the music would come first.

Until then, we’ll see what Rodrigo has in store with the “Vampire” release.

British toddler develops an American accent from watching Ms. Rachel videos

In the not-so-distant past, there was a phenomenon of American children speaking in British accents thanks to a cute little cartoon about a family of pigs. Peppa Pig and her jokes at Daddy Pig’s expense had American toddlers sounding like they were on holiday from England. And now, America is returning the favor (muahahaha).

Turns out the accent-changing mystery is now happening in the other direction, thanks to Ms. Rachel, every little kid’s favorite content creator. A mom took to TikTok to reveal how her newly talkative toddler sounds strangely American despite being born and raised in the United Kingdom.

Kelly Convey lives in London with her two children, one of whom is 21-month-old Bea, who traded in her British accent for one that sounds much less fancy. (Fancy if you live in America, but I suppose if you live in the U.K., it’s not fancy at all.)

Convey uploaded a video of Bea saying words like “ears,” “more,” and “zebra.” But instead of the more soft-sounding letters that her mom uses, Bea uses harder consonants and longer vowels like Ms. Rachel. Rachel Accurso is the star of the popular YouTube channel, “Songs for Littles” where she not only teaches children the pronunciation of words but sings songs about a variety of topics.

Accurso started “Songs for Littles” after she realized how difficult it was to find appropriate programs to help her own child who had developmental delays. The show took off and the mom and former teacher has become a viral sensation teaching children how to speak all over the globe.

American Parents in the comments of Convey’s video joked about how this was payback for American kids developing British accents.

“Peppa Pig got Uno reversed by Miss Rachel,” one person wrote.

“This is payback for Peppa Pig,” another commenter said.

“Payback for Peppa Pig and Bluey giving them British and Australian accents,” one person joked.

“Well you just got Peppa Pig’d,” someone said.

Even Ms. Rachel chimed in on the comments saying, “I’m sorry,” complete with a crying laughing emoji and a blushing one with three hearts around its face.

The YouTube star also recorded herself watching Convey’s video of Bea’s new accent.

“I’m sorry, Kelly! 🥴 Flashing back to when I thought a little girl’s parents were British because of her accent. They were American. It was Peppa!,” Accurso wrote in a comment under her own video.

Bea even got to see herself next to Ms. Rachel when her mom showed her the video Accurso uploaded.

Who knew part of raising children in today’s world would mean deciphering what accent they’re speaking in during any given week. Whether it’s Bluey giving kids an Australian accent, Peppa Pig and the Octonauts giving children a British accent or Ms. Rachel giving kids an American accent, it proves children are quick studies.

When no one showed up to a 5-year-old’s birthday, her quick-thinking mom saved the day

Five-year-old Willa Fitzgerald was super excited to celebrate her 5th birthday party at Hat Creek Burger Company in Keller, Texas, on June 17 with a group of friends from school. However, 20 minutes after the party started, no one had shown up.

“I’m thinking to myself, no, this cannot be what’s happening. As a mom, the last thing I want is for my daughter, for the first time ever at 5 years old, to experience that type of social rejection — honestly, that’s what it is,” Willa’s mom Alexa told WFAA.

Mid-June is a busy time of year for many families and it’s understandable if a lot of the invitees were busy or on vacation. But Alexa later recalled on Instagram that 30% of the invitees RSVP’d yes, so she assumed there would be enough for a small party. Sadly, they didn’t show up.

Fearful that her daughter’s birthday would become a disaster, the mother of three young children made a last-ditch effort to get the party started. She reached out to the Keller neighborhood group on Facebook to see if anyone would like to stop by and celebrate with Willa.

It was a long shot, but telling her daughter that no one showed up to her birthday party would be incredibly difficult.

“If anyone has young kids and looking for something to do right now, no one showed up to my daughter’s birthday party. It’s her first (and likely last) party. We’d love to celebrate with you,” she wrote to the group.

She hoped a few kids would show up with their parents, but that wasn’t the case. The Facebook group delivered in a big way. Within minutes, people began to show up at the restaurant to wish the young girl a happy birthday. “The entire restaurant was packed with families who refused to let my daughter celebrate alone,” Alexa later posted on Instagram. The table went from empty to every seat being taken.

Grandparents, empty nesters, teenagers, and even total strangers showed up to wish Willa a happy birthday. “All walks of life showed up for my baby girl today,” Alexa said, according to WFAA. “It was incredible.” Many of them even brought gifts, which is pretty impressive on such short notice.

Some of the last-minute guests quickly became Willa’s new friends, and they invited her to their birthday parties.

The gesture by the local community was all the more important for the family because they had only lived in Keller for two years and had no family in the area to come to the party.

“I just want to say thank you to all of the people who came today to be with us,” she wrote on Instagram. “You not only showed up for my little girl, but for me as well. You picked me up and encouraged me forward when I felt like I had failed as a mom. Thank you.”

She added the hashtag, “It takes a village.”

“Those parents better be ashamed of themselves,” one of the top commenters wrote. “That’s truly disheartening. BUT, a village was needed and a village came.”
