Janelle Monáe’s ‘The Age Of Pleasure’ Tracklist Has Features From Grace Jones, Nia Long, Doechii, And Others

We are now just days away from The Age Of Pleasure, the much-hyped new album from Janelle Monáe. That drops at midnight, and now, we finally know what the tracklist looks like. Monáe runs the show here, but along the way, she gets help via features from Grace Jones, Doechii, CKay, Seun Kuti And Egypt 80, Sister Nancy, Amaarae, and even actress Nia Long.

Monáe previously said of the album, “All the songs were written from such an honest space. Look, it never stops. Even with this album, this project. I’m just like, ‘You know what? It takes work.’ I have to learn things all over again. I have to practice. I have to… and thank God I love the songs. Yeah. So it’s always a fun thing to do to. It’s like starting on a blank canvas. So I hope that people feel that when they listen to the music, that they feel that when they come and counter with me when I’m around, I definitely have had an opportunity to evolve and grow and to tap into the things that bring me pleasure, the things that perhaps I should rethink and rework. Sometimes it really is just saying, ‘You know what? Let’s get back to the basics and also let’s honor the present.’”

Check out the The Age Of Pleasure tracklist below.

1. “Float” Feat. Seun Kuti And Egypt 80
2. “Champagne Shit”

The Wildfire Smoke From Canada Has Forced Chris Stapleton To Postpone A New York Concert

Things in New York City and surrounding areas are pretty intense right now. As massive wildfires in Canada continue to burn, smoke is making its way to the US, especially in and around New York. Chris Stapleton was supposed to perform at St. Joseph’s Health Amphitheater At Lakeview in Syracuse tonight (June 8), but now he’s been forced to reschedule.

A message from Stapleton’s team shared on social media yesterday reads, “Due to the ongoing air conditions in the greater Syracuse area, tomorrow night’s show at @StJosephsAmp will be rescheduled. All previously purchased tickets for the original date will be honored for the new date. We expect to have an update by mid-day June 9th.”

Stapleton’s concert isn’t the first event to be impacted by NYC’s current air quality. Jodie Comer was performing her one-woman Broadway show yesterday but had to stop the show due to breathing difficulties she was experiencing. Meanwhile, the Governors Ball festival is set for this weekend and organizers shared a note yesterday, saying, “We’re closely monitoring the air quality with weather experts and are in close contact with city officials. As always, the health and safety of New Yorkers is our top priority. At this time, the festival is continuing as planned. We are hopeful that conditions will improve in the coming days and are looking forward to a great weekend!”

Jamal Murray Broke Down His Two-Man Game With Nikola Jokic: ‘It’s A Trust And A Feel’

On Wednesday night, Jamal Murray and Nikola Jokic made NBA history as the first teammates to each post 30-point triple-doubles in the same game — postseason or regular season.

The two combined for 66 points, 31 rebounds, and 20 assists as they carried the Nuggets to a 109-94 win in Game 3 over the Miami Heat, reclaiming the advantage in the series after blowing a fourth quarter lead at home in Game 2. Murray, who struggled in that loss, bounced back in a big way by scoring 20 of his 34 points in the first half to help Denver wrangle control of the game from Miami by the halftime break. Jokic had a first half double-double, but really took over to start the third quarter as the Nuggets extended their lead and never gave it back.

The catalyst for Denver’s offense waking up was the two-man game of Jokic and Murray, as the two stars are as lethal as it comes working off of each other. Whether in pick-and-rolls or handoff actions, they are always in sync and are incredibly good at creating space for each other to thrive. After the game, Murray was asked about that two-man action and broke down how it has little to do with there being actual playcalls, but just “a trust and a feel” between the two stars to know what the other is going to do and what they want you to do.

It’s fascinating to hear Murray talk about how it’s not just reading how defenses are guarding their actions, but about how they’re also always in tune with how the other is feeling on the court. They know when one of them is dragging a bit and the other needs to pick up the slack, or if one’s feeling particularly aggressive or hot the other will look to make sure to feed them and keep that going. It’s the kind of partnership that can only come from years of experience, which is something Denver’s stars have that few others in the league can replicate.

It’s also why they are so hard to defend, because there isn’t often a specific play they’re trying to run when they work a pick-and-roll or handoff, but just reading and reacting — both to the defense and their co-star. Defending an action without a defined endpoint is incredibly difficult, and when they’re at their best, Jokic and Murray both have the patience to reset and run it again until they get the look they want. That was the case in Game 3 when they controlled the game on that end of the floor, and even with strong defenders in Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo doing their best, there’s just not much a defense can do when both have that good feeling.

Pup Release B-Side Tracks From Their ‘The Unraveling’ Album, ‘How To Live With Yourself’ And ‘Smoke Screen’

Pup released their album The Unraveling Of PupTheBand in April 2022, but spoiler alert: they haven’t unraveled at all. The group embarked on a co-headlining tour with Joyce Manor this March, and on Wednesday, June 7, they dropped two new singles.

“COUPLE NEW SONGS OUT TODAY, ‘How To Live With Yourself’ and ‘Smoke Screen.’ B-sides from ‘The Unraveling,’” the Toronto quartet posted to Instagram. “We like these songs, they’re only B-sides because we couldn’t agree on an album tracklist and we got into a big pissing match and ended up choosing songs based on what we thought would annoy one another the most. A flawless system, perfectly executed by grownup well adjusted individuals who are definitely not man-babies, never ever. Anyway, these songs are the casualties, hope you like em!”

Pup vocalist Stefan Babcock explained the inspiration behind “How To Live With Yourself” in a press release statement.

“This was the first song we wrote when we started working on our last album,” he said. “The first one is always the hardest — you tend to overthink everything — so we wanted to start with something simple and fun, something that we wouldn’t get too in our own heads about. This one feels like a classic Pup song to me, and while our goal for the record was to push ourselves out of our comfort zone and try new things, sometimes it feels good to write a catchy, miserable ripper that feels like it captures exactly what this band is about.”

Babcock offered the same insight for “Smoke Screen,” saying, “This song originated with a Nestor [Chumak] riff. He sent it around, and the thing was so slow that I thought he’d exported it wrong. But his idea was to do a song that was like the ‘sludgey’ version of Pup — something we’d never really done before. The more I listened to it, the more it grew on me. I remember in the height of the pandemic sitting in the backseat of my car at the Home Depot parking lot, anything to try and escape the house, and writing and recording all the lyrics on the spot.”

Nikola Jokic Had The First 30-20-10 Game In Finals History As The Nuggets Ran Away With Game 3

After seeing a fourth quarter lead evaporate in Game 2, the Denver Nuggets arrived in Miami for Game 3 of the NBA Finals looking to reclaim homecourt advantage from the Heat.

However, after Nikola Jokic carried the scoring load in that game with little help, he got the support he needed from his co-star Jamal Murray in Game 3. Murray had 20 of his 34 points in the first half, as he came out on a mission to quickly erase the memory of a tough shooting night, going to work in the two-man game with Jokic (who had a first half double-double).

The second half was quieter from Murray (until the late fourth as he helped Denver ice the win), but Jokic took the mantle as he went to work early and often, piling up stats, quieting the conversation about whether Miami had figured something out by trying to turn him into a scorer. He attacked one-on-one matchups, bullying Miami’s smaller defenders in the paint, while feeding teammates in the dribble-handoff game and when doubles came his way. The result was the first 30-20-10 game in NBA Finals history (his third of the postseason, with there being two others total in NBA Playoff history) and a 109-94 Denver Nuggets win.

Jokic (32 points, 21 rebounds, 10 assists) and Murray (34 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists) each notched triple doubles, making NBA history as the first pair of teammates to do that in any game, playoffs or regular season.

While they were spectacular they didn’t have to do it completely alone on Wednesday as they got help from an unlikely source. With Michael Porter Jr. and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope still struggling to hit shots (8 points on a combined 2-of-11 shooting), Christian Braun came off the bench and scored 15 on 7-of-8 shooting, most of which came in the late third and early fourth quarter to help the Nuggets push their lead out to 21.

Along with Braun’s energy boost off the bench on both ends, Aaron Gordon continued to give the Nuggets good minutes with 11 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists, doing a bit of everything. Denver still hasn’t found it’s three-point shooting touch, knocking down just 5-of-18 from deep in Game 3, but their dominance inside and ability to push the tempo in Game 3 was the difference. The Heat did make things interesting late, cutting the lead to as few as nine, but could never make the full push to really try and rattle Denver.

The biggest issue for Miami was going cold from three, hitting just 11-of-35 from deep, and while Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo (50 points combined) were more aggressive early attacking the rim, they were not particularly efficient (18-of-45 shooting as a duo). Denver’s defense did much better in the second half of limiting the breakdowns in communication, which kept Miami from getting as many wide open threes, and even when they did get those looks, the Heat struggled to knock them down. That allowed Denver to run off Miami misses, which kept the Heat out of their zone and gave Murray and Jokic the chance to go to work in the two-man game, picking apart the Heat with it.

Heading into Game 4, the biggest thing for the Heat will once again be knocking down shots both inside the paint and from beyond the three-point line. They cannot shoot 37 percent from the field and have a chance against this Nuggets team, especially because their misses are what fuels the Denver offense when they can get out and run (particularly since Miami isn’t giving Denver the turnovers they need to do that otherwise). For the Nuggets, when they stay connected and communicate defensively they’re able to frustrate the Heat, but that has to stay a point of emphasis as they did get lost at points on screening action, still having some trouble communicating switches and coverages. Offensively, they’ll hope that at some point Porter Jr. and Caldwell-Pope wake up and join the series, because if they do then it’s hard to see how Miami can slow them down.

Mike Pence Seems Very, One Could Say Naively Sure That Donald Trump Won’t Be The 2024 GOP Nominee, Again

On Wednesday, the newly Chris Licht-free CNN held another one of their town halls for Republican presidential candidates. (After all, it went so great the first time.) This time it was Mike Pence’s turn. Earlier that day, Donald Trump’s former vice president, who he (remorselessly) almost got killed, formally announced his campaign, which he did by slamming his former superior. Pence used his time to slightly back off (or dance around) some of his more bold attacks. But at the end, he made a confident, one could say naïve prediction: Donald Trump will not be the nominee — despite currently crushing it in the polls.

As CNN’s latest GOP town hall wound down, Pence reiterated something he’d said earlier: that no matter what, he’d support whoever became the Republican nominee in 2024. That seemed to contradict what he’d said during his campaign announcement, namely that Donald Trump should never, ever, ever be allowed back in the White House. To her credit, moderator Dana Bash pursued this line of questioning, asking him, “How can you say that you support him if he’s the nominee?”

But Pence had a smart answer at the ready: “Well, because I don’t think Donald Trump is going to be the nominee.”

Bash didn’t let it go, quickly asking him, “But what if he is?”

Pence was adamant, reiterating, “I don’t think he’s going to be the nominee.”

“But what if he is?” Bash pressed.

So Pence elaborated. “I have great confidence in Republican primary voters,” he said. “We have a field of strong and experienced candidates that grew up one today. And I truly do believe that people here in Iowa are going to recognize the challenges that we’re facing and understand that different times call for different leadership.

“The American people don’t look backwards. We look forward,” Pence continued. “And I truly do believe that, whatever the polls show, whatever the pundits are saying, that when the time comes the people of Iowa are going to take a fresh look at all of us that have stepped forward. I don’t think my old running mate is going to be the Republican nominee for president, and I’m very confident — very confident — that I’ll be able to support the Republican nominee for president of the United States.”

He then shrugged and said, “And I hope it’s me.”

Of course, Republican candidates and pundits and anyone from the pre-Trump GOP were saying much the same thing in 2015 and 2016: that the American people would reject the guy from The Apprentice. And the American people sure do look backwards. Trump’s slang, in 2016 and now, is about returning America to some perceived former glory.

In other words, in trying to appear confident about something that very well could happen — and if the polls from today hold into next fall, it’ll definitely happen — Pence looked even weaker than when he spent two-plus years not trashing the guy who, again, almost got him killed.

LANY Embrace The Difficulties Of A Worthwhile Relationship With Their ‘Love At First Fight’ Single

LANY’s unbreakable relationship with their fans is based upon their fearless, well-rounded approach to love songs, including “ILYSB,” “Malibu Nights,” “Ex I Never Had,” and “The Older You Get, The Less You Cry.” Drummer Jake Goss and singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer Paul Jason Klein are entering their I Really Really Hope So era by releasing the forthcoming album’s lead single, “Love At First Fight.”

The accompanying video finds Goss and Klein performing to an empty theater, in their robes. Goss’ drum sticks are enlarged toothbrushes. Klein is strumming an even bigger toothbrush as he softly sings, “Two months and twenty-four days / Toothbrush on the sink at my place.”

As the poppy soundscape escalates, Klein can’t help but dance like nobody’s watching — maybe it’s helpful that there is nobody in this theater — while delivering the contentious yet endearing chorus: “Under the moonlight, clenching your jaw / And that’s when I saw the fire in your eyes / Clothes on the floor, you stormed out the door / And that’s when I knew that I can’t live without you / It was sparks at first sight / But it was love at first fight.”

Goss and Klein finish performing “Love At First Fight” and put their hands up toward the manmade moon hanging over the stage. The curtain falls, but that’s not the end of the video. Klein returns to the stage with an acoustic guitar to play a different song, but he’s interrupted by an unidentifiable astronaut. The astronaut claps, stands up, and walks out of the theater into a blinding light.

In a statement, Klein said, “In a relationship, you learn a lot about a person from the first argument. It’s an indicator of the relationship’s trajectory and whether it’s going to work out or not.”

Klein opened up further about his songwriting process with People, saying, “It’s much less stressful just being honest, and you don’t have to keep up with a façade or a character. I find that I sleep better at night just telling the truth, and just writing about my experience.”

“Love At First Fight” is the first of four singles scheduled to drop ahead of I Really Really Hope So‘s September 29 arrival.
