Michelle Zauner Is Looking For Somebody To Play Her In The ‘Crying In H Mart’ Movie With An Open Casting Call

The world of Michelle Zauner’s Crying In H Mart started as a relatively intimate thing, but it just continued to grow. The Japanese Breakfast musician wrote an essay for the New Yorker, which landed Zauner a book deal to expand on the essay. Zauner released the memoir in 2021 and it was a major success that ended up being one of the year’s most talked-about books. Not long after the book came out, it was announced that Crying In H Mart would be adapted into a movie.

It was previously revealed that Will Sharpe (also known as Ethan on The White Lotus) is set to direct the movie.

How Long Is The New ‘The Little Mermaid’ Movie?

Gone are the days when you could pop into the movie theater for a quick afternoon showing of your favorite animated feature because now movies are big events that need to take up nearly half of your day and require a bathroom break. But it’s fun!

The latest blockbuster to make a splash on the big screen will be the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid which hits theaters just in time to make your Memorial Day weekend memorable. The original 1989 animated film clocked in at an hour and 25 minutes of singing, swimming, and dancing (both humans and fish alike) but the 2023 remake seems to have more of a story to tell.

This year’s Mermaid will run 2 hours and 15 minutes, according to the AMC website, meaning there is another full hour of aquatic adventures and evil sea witch shenanigans. It will be hard to time your bathroom breaks with all of that water imagery, so be prepared.

The Little Mermaid stars Halle Bailey as the protagonist who wishes to live above water, where there are people and, more importantly, an absence of sea wenches. The evil Ursula is played by Melissa McCarthy, while Eric will be portrayed by Jonah Hauer-King, which is a great name for a prince. Daveed Digs, Awkwafina, Javier Bardem, and Jacob Tremblay also star.

You can catch The Little Mermaid in theaters on May 26th.

Bill Maher, For Some Freaking Reason, Has Declared Joe Rogan To Be ‘Our Generation’s Larry King’

Bill Maher has heaped a huge amount of praise on Joe Rogan. During the latest episode of Maher’s podcast, the Real Time host gushed to Kathy Griffin that Rogan is basically “our generation’s Larry King.”

“He’s not looking for a fight and he is willing to open the mic to people,” Maher said to Griffin. “Even the ones that the establishment of some kind or another says, ‘How dare you let that person speak?’”

While Griffin argued that Rogan basically is “establishment” due to his broad reach and massive audience, Maher continued to speak glowingly of the controversial podcaster.

Via Mediaite:

What Joe does, he kind of opens that mic like Larry did. Elon Musk will do that show and like the biggest people in the world because they know of the reach. And I just think also Joe earned that. It’s like this is just a regular guy smarter than the average bear, but is not gonna be intimidated first of all by you saying, don’t platform this guy or don’t listen to this and will let anybody speak and usually has a common sense view of it, of his own.

Eventually, Maher came back down to earth and offered at least one bit of criticism about Rogan. Emphasis on “bit.”

“You know, he’s a little to the right of where I am on things,” Maher conceded. Dang, dude, don’t hold back.

The Celtics Are Out Of Explanations (And Excuses), So What Comes Next?

After getting outworked at home by the Miami Heat and falling in a 2-0 hole, the Celtics entered Sunday night as, theoretically, the desperate team. The reigning Eastern Conference champions faced a must-win situation, given the NBA has never seen a team come back from 3-0 down to win a series, and promptly came out and laid an egg.

Game 3 was the Celtics worst performance of the playoffs. It was a failure at every level, but seeing both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown no-show a game of that magnitude was particularly noteworthy. The two combined to go 12-of-35 from the field (1-of-14 from three-point range) for 26 points in the biggest game of the season, before being pulled after three quarters with Miami up 30. Their inability to meet the moment stood in stark contrast to the Heat team on the other side, which seemingly only gets better as the lights get brighter.

There is a disconnect in Boston right now that no one can figure out. First year head coach Joe Mazzulla took responsibility after Game 3 for not having the team ready to play, saying it’s on him to put together the right plan and get them all on the same page. That this team, with a core that’s been to four conference finals in five years, needs to be properly motivated by the coach to get up for a Game 3 down 2-0 is a problem in and of itself. That Mazzulla couldn’t do it shows the cracks in the foundation that Brad Stevens and company have been trying desperately to paper over.

Jaylen Brown called Game 3 “embarrassing” and said it’s a collective issue, not wanting to point fingers — which is what I would also not want to do when many of the fingers would be pointing at me. He seemed as baffled as anyone how the team (including himself) played as poorly as they did. He and Jayson Tatum both said the team has to come out and play with “some pride” in the next game, which is, again, not a great thing to have to strive for down 3-0 in the conference finals against a team you were, on paper, much better than.

It was clear after Game 3 that Boston is out of explanations and excuses. It’s one thing to lose to a team with three championships like the Warriors, or to be the young team on the rise that takes its lumps against a LeBron-led Cavs team that won the East every year. Those are the kinds of losses that can be viewed as lessons to learn from. Losing in this fashion to an 8-seeded Heat team operating at a theoretical (albeit, not in practice) talent deficit, is not one of those. That’s the kind of thing that leads to significant changes in an organization.

It has to be noted that what Miami has done this postseason, particularly against the Bucks and Celtics, has been nothing short of astounding. Their shot-making has been at a level no one could’ve predicted coming in, knocking down 46 percent of their threes in eight games across those two series (falling back to earth in between against the Knicks).

Jimmy Butler seemingly hits every big shot he’s asked to, but he’s not alone. Bam Adebayo has found another gear offensively that has been critical to punishing defenses that try to collapse on Butler. Kyle Lowry has regained his form of old after a dreadful year-plus in Miami, giving them another guard capable of creating for others. Gabe Vincent, Max Strus, and Caleb Martin have each been phenomenal on both ends of the floor (outplaying their much more highly regarded role-playing counterparts in Boston), and Duncan Robinson, after a year-plus on the bench, has been revived and is just back to his bubble ways, knocking down seemingly everything.

However, what Miami is doing also shows what Boston is lacking. Every player on Miami looks like they are playing with supreme confidence, and they’re doing so because of the way they feed off of Jimmy Butler (and to a slightly lesser degree Bam Adebayo). Caleb Martin explained as much after Game 3, pointing out how it’s impossible not to be confident when the guy playing better than anyone in the playoffs is extending that trust to you.

There is none of that happening in Boston, where confidence is waning, in large part because the team’s stars seem unsure of themselves and the rest of the team. Tatum and Brown don’t have that same trust in the “others” and it shows up in the biggest moments. This is a team that’s struggled all year with holding fourth quarter leads, regularly allowing teams to claw back into games as their halfcourt offense stalls out. Their stars tend to get tunnel vision, trying to shoulder the load themselves to drag the team out of the mud. At times it works, just ask the Sixers who watched Tatum pile up 53 points in Game 7 to get the Celtics to this point, but what can also happen is they just spin their tires and sink deeper.

We’ve seen that play out in this series in the moments where Miami starts to grab hold of the game, Boston simply cannot produce enough to keep up. The third quarter of Game 1 (25 points), fourth quarter of Game 2 (22 points), and the third quarter of Game 3 (17 points) have been the three most important quarters of the series, and Boston simply has not been up to the task on either end of the floor.

Whenever this series ends, and it certainly seems like that will happen soon, Boston will enter the offseason with pressure as high as its been in some time to make serious changes. To this point, the Celtics have been patient with their young core and seemed ready to reap the rewards of that approach coming off of a Finals appearance last year. There has been ample chatter over the years about breaking up the Tatum and Brown pairing, with many wondering if two players that want to do similar things on the ball are best suited playing with each other. Last year’s run quieted that notion, but a dismal showing against Miami has rekindled those doubts.

It’s part of the difficulty in making the leap as a team. This is no longer a young team on the rise, but a contender expected to win championships — or at the least, go out in a way befitting of a title contender. Patience is no longer something afforded to them, and after spending last offseason seemingly bolstering the roster around the stars with what they needed, adding 6MOY Malcolm Brogdon to be a steady hand for the second unit, the focus will again shift to their star duo this offseason. Brown getting set to enter a contract year only heightens the attention on him, as his performance has been particularly woeful against the Heat, and with Tatum already on a max and the new CBA set to kick in, it’s a fair question to wonder whether Boston will want to give Brown the deal he undoubtedly will be seeking.

Very little seems off the table for Boston as they head into this offseason, joining an astounding number of teams that are disgruntled at the way this season ended. It was a year that felt wide open in the NBA and the playoffs have showed that to be the case, with an 8-seed and 7-seed reaching the conference finals. That meant teams at the top (and even in the middle) felt they had a real chance at a title, and falling short in a year like this where the cards were seemingly in their favor only adds to the frustration.

Joe Mazzulla, freshly signed to a new contract this season, certainly will be under examination given the caliber of coaches on the market, but Brad Stevens must first determine what direction he wants to go with the roster before he makes a decision on the coach. If the issue is connecting with this particular group, that’s maybe less of a concern if a sizable roster shakeup is on the way. Still, with Monty Williams, Doc Rivers, Nick Nurse, and Mike Budenholzer all out of jobs currently, Boston could seek out a veteran presence on the bench to bring a more commanding voice to the locker room.

Brown will be highly sought after given his two-way talents, and after years of rumblings he could get moved, this summer might bring that to fruition. Tatum will almost assuredly remain the centerpiece, but what would they identify as the missing secondary piece should they decide to shop Brown (again)? If it’s in the backcourt, that could lead to more changes. They already have solid point guard depth with Brogdon, Derrick White, and Marcus Smart, but if the goal is to add a star caliber guard in a Brown trade, moving one of them for help elsewhere makes sense.

This season was supposed to be the culmination of years of patience with a talented homegrown core, much like what’s happening in Denver. Boston finally reaping the reward for keeping its All-Star duo together and building around them in the face of external pressure to break them up. They should have been sitting above all of the chaos set to take place this offseason, cementing their position as the team all the others are chasing. Instead, they will find themselves right in the midst of it all.

The moment they are eliminated, the post-mortems will begin. Sourced stories on internal discord, a young coach in over his head, and a star duo growing further apart seem like a lock. It’s a far cry from where they started the year as the heirs apparent, but going out like this, with no explanations and no excuses, leaves little to do but make changes.

Tool’s Maynard James Keenan Performed In Drag, Fake Boobs And All, In An Apparent Protest Of Florida Laws

Last week, Florida governor Ron DeSantis signed a series of bills targeting drag shows and transgender rights. One of the bills prevents minors from going to drag shows. So, what Tool leader Maynard James Keenan did in Florida this weekend sure felt like a protest of that.

As Consequence notes, Tool performed at Daytona Beach’s Welcome To Rockville festival for their first show of 2023. During the set, Keenan dressed on drag, donning a blonde wig, red lipstick applied well beyond his lips, and fake boobs (Consequence photographer Amy Harris took photos of Keenan’s look). Given that Welcome To Rockville is an all-ages event, it would seem Keenan was technically violating the new Florida law.

Neither Keenan nor Tool have yet to address Keenan’s outfit choice, but Tool did share some photos and videos from the performance on their Instagram Story, like this official one from the festival:

Beyond this past weekend, Tool has a relatively quiet schedule for 2023 so far. According to the band’s website, their only scheduled live shows for the rest of the year are festival appearances. They’re set to play Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio on May 25; Louder Than Life in Louisville, Kentucky on September 22; Aftershock in Sacramento, California on October 6; and Power Trip in Indio, California on October 8.

Jude Law Had To Wear Custom Perfume That Smelled Like ‘Blood, Fecal Matter, And Sweat’ For His Latest Role, Which Is Somehow Worse Than It Sounds

Some actors give off very specific scent auras. For example, Tom Cruise probably smells like expensive cologne mixed with jet fuel and fear, and we all know Matthew McConaughey smells like the parking lot outside of a Texas Roadhouse. There are a select few actors who just look like they smell like a warm vanilla candle, and Jude Law is definitely one of them.

But while Law was preparing to star as King Henry VII in the historical thriller Firebrand, he soon realized that he could not smell like a delicious British cookie. He actually had to smell pretty bad. After doing some research, Law learned that the King was quite smelly and vile, thanks to his swollen legs and various ulcers. This isn’t uncommon among royalty, it seems.

While at the Cannes Film Festival (per Variety), Law explained, “I read several interesting accounts that you could smell Henry three rooms away. His leg was rotting so badly. He hid it with rose oil,” Law explained. But the actor didn’t want to just take the easy route. “I thought it would have a great impact if I smelt awful.” It seemed to have worked.

In order to achieve such a smell, Law had to take matters into his own hands and found a perfume specialist who would create the cooky concoction that would smell like a mix between a porta potty and a middle school gym.

“She makes wonderful scents, and she also makes awful scents,” Law explained.” She somehow came up with this extraordinary variety of blood, fecal matter, and sweat.” This is what most historical movie sets smell like, so it shouldn’t have been that hard.

Did the rest of the cast appreciate the poop perfume? They sure didn’t! Even the film’s director, Karim Ainouz, said “When Jude walked in on set… it was just horrible.” While can assume he was talking about the smell, maybe Jude Law is a grumpy dude on set. Hopefully, he didn’t keep the perfume, but maybe his next role will be The Smelly Pope. Just think about it, it could work.

One Of Nirvana Leader Kurt Cobain’s Guitars Sold At Auction For Over Half A Million Dollars Despite Being ‘Unplayable’

The late Nirvana lead singer Kurt Cobain left behind an unquantifiable legacy, but his tools for doing so carry a substantial price tag. In October 2019, the cardigan worn by Cobain during his 1993 MTV: Unplugged set sold for $334,000. Julien’s Auctions sold a “smashed and autographed” 1973 Fender Mustang played by Cobain for $486,400 last fall.

And Julien’s Auctions was at it again over the weekend.

“Sold for $595,900. A lefty black Fender Stratocaster electric guitar, smashed by Kurt Cobain during Nirvana’s Nevermind era and signed to the body by all three band members,” the auction house captioned an Instagram post. “Sold in Julien’s Auctions ‘Music Icons’ at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City, May 19th – 21st and on julienslive.com.”

According to several outlets such as Billboard, Entertainment Weekly, and People, the guitar was initially listed at and estimated to go for $60,000.

“Beyond being played by Cobain before he smashed it, the reassembled but unplayable guitar was signed by all three members of Nirvana — Cobain, Krist Novoselic, and Dave Grohl — along with additional inscriptions to Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) by Cobain that read: ‘Hell-o Mark! Love, Your Pal, Kurdt Kobain / Washed up rockstar,’” People relayed, citing Julien’s Auctions listing.

During the same “Music Icons” auction, Julien’s Auctions also sold an oversized Nevermind promotional poster for $10,400 as well as an autographed setlist “believed to have been handwritten by” Grohl for $50,800. The setlist was for a Nirvana performance at OK Hotel in Seattle on April 17, 1991.

Chlöe Showed Off Her Body In A Joyous Vacation Video And Fans Are Showering Her With Appreciation

Even with fans making all kinds of out-of-pocket comments about her, Chlöe hasn’t been shy about showing off her body since starting her solo career with the unapologetic video for “Have Mercy.” Since then, she’s met every critical comment with another carefree moment reinforcing her self-love — and doubled down on displaying her assets, whether those commenters like it or not.

So it makes sense that after she had a booming busy season that included her controversial appearance in Swarm, the release of her first-ever solo album, and the tour for that album, she’s taking a vacation. She shared a compilation video from her time in paradise (it looks a lot like Hawaii) on social media, and once again bared nearly all with a series of skimpy bikinis that showed off her curves as she surfed, lounged, and soaked up the sun during her island getaway.

The difference is, it appears to be sinking in that she’s not going to let the trolls shake her confidence, so instead, the majority of the comments are praising her, congratulating her on taking some time for herself, and generally loving the look she gave behind the curtain of her rest and relaxation time.

Jon Hamm Helped A Missouri Senate Candidate Create A Brilliantly Surgical Takedown Of Josh Hawley’s Hilariously Dumb ‘Manhood’ Crusade

Sen. Josh Hawley, the MAGA “laughingstock” and “fleeing coward” as branded by his Kansas City hometown paper, will never live down his insurrectionist fist-pumping and cowardly running on January 6. Hawley has somehow also been insisting that American men simply are not masculine enough these days, so of course he decided to write a book called Manhood: The Masculine Virtues America Needs. The book has been both review bombed and lambasted, and it’s awfully silly to stress one’s own alleged masculinity so much because that effort tends to have a counter effect. And if you’re ready to hear this obsession be called out as BS, then Jon Hamm is here to help.

The man who embodied Don Draper surely knows a thing of two about toxic masculinity, so Hamm lent his voice to an ad for Democratic Senate candidate and Marine veteran Lucas Kunce, who walks the walk. As tweeted by Morning Joe co-host Joe Scarborough, the ad paints a portrait of how “manhood really looks.” The ad perfectly times some of Hawley’s most infamous “hits” (including the insurrection sprint) with damning voiceovers from Hamm, including the following: “In Missouri, you can’t fake courage. We’re the ‘Show Me State.’ Courage is something you have to show us.”

Hamm then effortlessly guides us through how “manhood” is shown through deeds like serving in the Marines, rather than through mere words or by controlling other people (i.e., women) through abortion bans. The actor then concludes, “If you wanna be told about ‘Manhood,’ some guy wrote a book about it. But if you want someone to show you courage, send Lucas Kunce to the U.S. Senate.”

It’s a damn effective ad that is much more convincing at defining “manhood” than Hawley’s curious insistence that he’s full of testosterone or Tucker Carlson’s testicle-tanning montage. Imagine that.

‘The View’s Whoopi Goldberg Surprised Sunny Hostin By Giving Her A Lap Dance On Live TV: ‘It’s All Like This’

In case anyone needed proof that these two The View co-hosts are still close friends after the Fartgate “controversy,” Whoopi Goldberg kicked off the week by giving Sunny Hostin a lap dance on Monday’s morning episode.

The raunchy display took place during a panel discussion on the surprising large amount of people who “cheat” during bachelor or bachelorette parties. A recent report put the number as high as 70%. However, The View ladies took issue with some of the methodology. Lap dances were considered a form of cheating, and Hostin didn’t agree with that categorization.

“I said during our Hot Topics meeting that lap dancing isn’t cheating, but come to think of it, I’ve never seen a lap dance, so maybe it is cheating?” Hostin revealed, and that’s when Whoopi struck.

Via Entertainment Weekly:

“Would you like to see?” Goldberg asked, approaching Hostin while the audience erupted with applause. She proceeded to shimmy around a seated Hostin while narrating the entire thing.

“First I’m looking at you, okay? And then I start to turn, and then it’s all like this, and then it’s like that,” Goldberg said as cohost Sara Haines filmed the whole thing on her phone and Ana Navarro stood up to clap along. “And then it’s me going down over here, and then I go back on the side.”

What was Hostin’s view on lap dances after getting a very personal demonstration from Whoopi Goldberg?

“That’s cheating,” Hostin said multiple times while still trying to compose herself. “That’s cheating!”
