Is it smart for Rob DeSantis to go to war with his state’s biggest employer? Or will he only succeed in rallying a fringe-y base and alienating everyone else? He’ll soon find out. He’s already cratering in the polls and losing billionaire donors over his increasing extremism, but that hasn’t stopped him from threatening to, among other things, build a prison by Disney World, all because they don’t hate LGBTQIA+ people. Are his antics scaring the mega-company? It appears not.
The first-ever Disneyland After Dark: Pride Nite is coming to @Disneyland during Pride Month in June! This separately ticketed event celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community & allies will have themed entertainment, Disney characters, specialty menu items & more: https://t.co/Y6vOJ3QXmspic.twitter.com/j97sB1kHod
As per Raw Story, not long after the Florida governor’s latest threat, Disney announced their first-ever Disneyland After Dark: Pride Night. The event, scheduled for two nights in mid-June, would find them” celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community & allies will have themed entertainment, Disney characters, specialty menu items & more.”
It’s obviously Disneyland in Anaheim, California, not Disney World in Orlando, Florida. But it’s the same company and it shows them defiant against — or maybe at least willing to simply troll — anyone looking to turn back the clock in how the nation treats an increasingly large section of the company, to say nothing of the ever-growing number of allies amidst rightwing attacks.
No doubt Ol’ Puddin’ Fingers DeSantis is still steamed that Disney was able to circumvent his attempts to take over the land the Magic Kingdom occupies in his state. That he’s (again) getting his butt handed to him by the former president he’s attempted to emulate probably doesn’t hurt either. The guy clearly needs a win, but perhaps he won’t get one.
Celebrities who want to avoid being harassed in public have found refuge over the past three years because they can wear masks to conceal their identities while protecting themselves from airborne diseases.
On April 13, actor Rainn Wilson, best known as Dwight Schrute on “The Office,” sat next to a fan in a plane and went unnoticed for over 5 hours because his mask concealed his identity. He had fun with the situation in an Instagram post where he secretly filmed the guy sitting next to him as he binge-watched “The Office” during the flight.
In the post, Wilson videos himself, wearing a mask, and slowly pans to the guy sitting next to him who is intently chowing down on a meal while watching “The Office.”
“When the person sitting next to you has no idea who you are …,” Wilson captioned the video to his more than 3.3 million followers on Instagram.
After the video went viral, countless people asked Wilson whether the guy beside him realized who he was. So he did a follow-up post on the video’s second slide where he explained the big reveal. “Everyone keeps asking me did the guy ever recognize you? And, yes, so after five hours of watching ‘The Office,’ I finally nudged him,” he said.
“I was like, ‘Oh, it seems like you like that show.’ And I was slowly taking my mask off,” Wilson continued. “And he’s like, ‘Yeah, I really liked it a lot.’”
Wilson’s anonymity allowed him to get an honest opinion of the show he starred in for 9 seasons. “I was like, ‘Oh, I heard it was not so good,’ Wilson recalled. “He’s like, ‘Well, it starts really slow and the first season is kind of questionable.’”
“And I was slowly taking my mask off, and I was like, ‘Oh, not so good, huh, the first season?’ he said.
“He’s like, ‘Yeah, but once you get into it and get to know the characters.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, but that first season kind of sucks. Is it really bad? That’s too bad that the first season sucks,’” Wilson continued before completely removing his mask and exposing his true identity.
When the guy realized who it was, Wilson says his “head exploded,” and the two “had a nice laugh.”
“So, happy ending,” Wilson concluded the post.
A testament to Wilson’s sense of humor was his patience in the funny situation. He could have revealed who he was when his seatmate first started watching “The Office.” But he waited over 5 hours before the big reveal, making the situation even more surreal.
Funny enough, the thing about the video that received the most comments was that the guy on the plane wasn’t a huge fan of season one of “The Office.”
The most popular comment on the post, which received nearly 5500 likes, was by its_bnv, who took real issue with the guy’s opinion. “First season sucks? Did he not watch diversity day?! One of the best episodes of the entire series.”
This prompted the teardown of the ice skating rink that he was expected to utilize for his performance and left the 100 or so LA-based hockey players hired for the performance with little to do during the set. They’d rehearsed at Coachella a week before the show, but after arriving at the grounds on Sunday, were told that plans had been scrapped. Instead of skating, they walked the stage in their custom Prada wardrobes.
If this is true, it could explain why Frank wanted Coachella to cancel the live stream of his set, since it’d have been a disappointing, stripped-down version of what he originally wanted to do, and why he went on an hour late. However, he wound up giving a strange, disjointed performance anyway, prompting an outcry on Twitter of both fans disappointed by the set and those upset they didn’t get to see it online. Perhaps Frank will have recovered by weekend two and fans can see the real set he had planned all along, just the way he intended it.
It took some two years, but Dominion Voting Systems’ lawsuit against Fox News is finally coming to trial. Even its alumni don’t think it looks so hot for right-leaning network. The last few months have seen one damning revelation after another go public, including its biggest stars laughing off the very voter fraud claims they were putting on air. (Tucker Carlson even went as far as saying he hates Donald Trump “passionately.”) Not only could they lose a ton of money, an even worse fate may befall them: They may have to go on air and tell their viewers they lied.
As per Mediaite, New York Times reporter Nick Confessore went on MSNBC to talk about what could happen should things go sideways for Rupert Murdoch’s bothersome baby.
“If they go to trial and lose, it’s possible, yes, a court could order an apology or a settlement could include some kind of apology,” Confessore explained. “I think that will be a hard thing for Fox to swallow; they would presumably have to go on the air and have their primetime hosts who peddled these lies say, ‘I lied to you, I was wrong. I knew it was wrong. I’m sorry.’ It’s hard to imagine that—it would be catastrophic for the network, for any network. I think that’s part of why there’s resistance.”
One problem, though: Admitting they deceived their viewers will be a touch awkward considering they’re still spreading doubt about the 2020 election.
“There are still Fox hosts on the air right now who lie about the implications of the elections and cast January 6th as a noble insurrection against, you know, a wronged loss,” he said. “So how can they apologize for something they’re still doing, which is essential to their business model? Which is to keep happy the audience that believes that Trump won in 2020.”
So what will happen? Will Tucker Carlson robotically read some hostage-like statement about how he misled his millions of viewers, then go right back into doing the same thing? Or will Fox News improbably avoid disaster? The latter, alas, seems the more far-fetched option.
Of all of the potential celebrity pairings, we did not have this budding Hollywood romance on our 2023 Bingo card. Then again, we also forgot the saying, “The devil works hard but Kris Jenner works harder.”
According to multiple outlets Kylie Jenner, 25, and actor Timothee Chalamet, 27, are casually dating. The popular celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi first sparked rumors of the potential match earlier this month with fans anonymously confirming the news, saying the pair have been hanging out and “getting to know each other” for the past few months. One tipster alleged that Chalamet attended Jenner’s winter getaway in Aspen. Another claimed they’ve been together since Paris Fashion Week, which took place in January of this year.
Last week, TMZ added credibility to the rumors, reporting that Jenner’s Range Rover was spotted at Chalamet’s Beverly Hills home on Thursday afternoon, supporting another fan theory that the two plan to attend Coachella together. This all comes after the pair were supposedly in attendance at a dinner with Jenner’s sister, Kendall, and her rumored boyfriend, rapper Bad Bunny.
Naturally, the news that sweet Little Timmy T might one day feature on an episode of The Kardashians has fans in their feels.
live reaction of me reading the timothée chalamet and kylie jenner news
kylie jenner and timothee chalamet dating feels the same as when two people from your high school that never interacted start dating like 6 years after graduation
too many articles about timothee and kylie and not enough pictures. your work is getting real sloppy and lazy. get back to the drawing board @KrisJenner
Jenner has been in an on-off relationship with rapper Travis Scott since 2017. The pair have two children together. Meanwhile, Chalamet has been linked most recently to Lily-Rose Depp, who he dated for over a year until the couple called it quits in 2020.
The Clippers 115-110 win over the Suns in Game 1 of their highly anticipated first round series was one of the highlights of the first weekend of games, and only built up the intrigue for the rest of the series.
When the video initially broke, there were a lot of questions as to why Westbrook was in there — had he tracked down the fan to confront him? — but it is apparently due to an odd layout in Phoenix’s Footprint Center, as Duane Rankin walked folks through after the game.
I’m sure you’ve seen the Russell Westbrook/#Suns fan interaction by now, but visiting players have been going through the club area to the visiting lockerroom all season.
A shortcut to the visitor’s locker room through a courtside club where fans are all drinking seems like a poor choice, and it’s honestly a bit surprising it took until now for something like this to happen. Unsurprisingly, the Clippers’ response will be to no longer take the shortcut, as Tyronn Lue will be instructing his team to take the long way through the tunnel to get to the visitor’s locker room for the rest of the series.
Tyronn Lue says that he will not have players using the Footprint Center shortcut after yesterday’s incident with Russell Westbrook at halftime.
That is probably a wise choice, and in the meantime, the league is apparently looking into the confrontation to determine what, if anything, needs to happen from their end, per Chris Haynes.
The likelihood of Russell Westbrook being suspended is extremely slim. He’s expected to be available for Game 2. https://t.co/0I8QVSqPe4
Hopefully this will be the only fan incident, and we can shift focus fully to the play on the court in what was a sensational opening game of the series.
There’s an age-old saying that one should never accept legal advice from a twice-impeached former president shouting into the void at 3 a.m. on his struggling social media platform. Unfortunately, Donald Trump has never heard it, which is why the chronically-online senior citizen from Palm Beach, Florida was up in the early hours of the morning on Monday issuing all-caps demands to Fox News head honcho Rupert Murdoch.
Currently, Murdoch and Fox are set to go to court with Dominion Voting Systems after pushing lies about the 2020 Presidential Election on their channels. Dominion is suing Fox for $1.3 billion in damages in a defamation case that could cripple the powerful right-wing network. Dominion’s discovery period already turned up evidence that proved top brass at Fox, as well as popular on-air correspondents, knew Trump’s claims that the election was rigged were not based in fact. But, instead of urging the corporation to settle outside of court — which would be the smart move for Fox — Trump has been screaming at Murdoch to double down on the voter fraud conspiracies to “weaken” the argument against the company and, you know, do him a solid.
“IF FOX WOULD FINALLY ADMIT THAT THERE WAS LARGE SCALE CHEATING & IRREGULARITIES IN THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION, WHICH WOULD BE A GOOD THING FOR THEM, & FOR AMERICA, THE CASE AGAINST THEM, WHICH SHOULD NOT HAVE EXISTED AT ALL, WOULD BE GREATLY WEAKENED,” Trump posted on his Truth Social account around 2:39 a.m. Monday morning. “BACK UP THOSE PATRIOTS AT FOX INSTEAD OF THROWING THEM UNDER THE BUS.”
He followed up that sage bit of legal advice with another spontaneous outburst via keyboard later that afternoon.
“FOX NEWS IS IN BIG TROUBLE IF THEY DO NOT EXPOSE THE TRUTH ON CHEATING IN THE 2020 ELECTION. THEY SHOULD DO WHAT’S RIGHT FOR AMERICA. WHEN RUPERT MURDOCH SAYS THAT THERE WAS NO CHEATING IN LIGHT OF THE MASSIVE PROOF THAT WAS THERE, IT IS RIDICULOUS AND VERY HARMFUL TO THE FOX CASE. RUPERT, JUST TELL THE TRUTH AND GOOD THINGS WILL HAPPEN. THE ELECTION OF 2020 WAS RIGGED AND STOLLEN…YOU KNOW IT, & SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!”
Ahhh yes, the incoherent shrieks of a man facing 34 felony counts of his own. This is why listening to your elders isn’t always a good idea, folks.
Drake is no stranger to Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart and his newest song, the Kim Kardashian-sampling “Search & Rescue,” continues his tradition of chart dominance. However, he just missed out on the top spot this time around, as Morgan Wallen’s “Last Night” took the No. 1 position, leaving Drake to settle for No. 2. The rest of the top 10 includes No. 3, Miley Cyrus’ “Flowers,” No. 4, SZA’s “Kill Bill” (this figures to change next week thanks to Doja Cat’s remix), and No. 5, Metro Boomin’s “Creepin.”
The remaining five songs in the top ten are Rema & Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down,” The Weeknd & Ariana Grande’s “Die For You,” PinkPantheress & Ice Spice’s “Boy’s A Liar, Pt. 2,” Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero,” and Eslabon Armando X Peso Pluma’s “Ella Baila Sola.”
Drake’s Billboard history is quite extensive; in November last year, he tied Jay-Z for most No. 1s on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart thanks to his collaboration with 21 Savage, Her Loss. That album was his 11th No. 1 on the Billboard 200 overall, while in August, Drake again passed The Beatles for a significant milestone, acquiring his 30th top five song with “Staying Alive” by DJ Khaled. He’s since put some distance between his high watermark and the next most-awarded artist, Madonna, who has 28.
When Drake first teased “Search & Rescue,” some fans interpreted it as a taunt aimed at Kanye West due to the sample of Kanye’s ex-wife Kim Kardashian on the record. The sample, taken from Keeping Up With The Kardashians, specifically refers to the couple’s then-impending divorce. “I didn’t come this far just to come this far and not be happy,” she says in the clip. Drake’s dad Dennis Graham chimed in to deny that it was a shot across Kanye’s bow, and Kany has yet to respond.
The full Billboard charts for the week ending April 15, 2023 are out now on Billboard.com.
Season one of The Last Of Usjust wrapped up last month, but fans are already eagerly awaiting any sort of news regarding the internet’s second-favorite father-child duo led by Pedro Pascal. Everyone’s first favorite duo is actually still kickin’ around the galaxy over on Disney+.
Craig Mazin, the showrunner for the hit HBO series, recently spoke at NAB Las Vegas, where he confirmed that there is “quite a bit of story to tell” in the post-apocalyptic non-zombie wasteland, implying that they have enough content to span several seasons and give the viewers even more questions. Like, for instance, how did they manage to have Makena for sale at the abandoned American Girl Doll Store when she wasn’t introduced until 2012? These are the crucial plot points fans are looking for.
Even though a second season is confirmed, Mazin hints that there will be more than just one more batch of emotionally-draining episodes to come. “Our plan is to do it not just for one more season,” Mazin confirmed to the crowd. “We should be around for a while,” he said. “Should” is the operative word here, because who knows what HBO Max will look like in the coming years.
Details regarding season two have also been sparse, but Mazin said that the scripts are still being written and shooting is expected to take place in British Columbia, because everyone knows that fungi-infested humans can’t resist their Timbits.
Mazin isn’t the only one who is on board with more seasons, as Bella Ramsay (Ellie) has previously said that there is “no limit” to how many seasons she would sign on for, meaning we could see an elderly Ellie battling fungi dudes for possibly decades to come!
I won’t lie to you, finding a good bottle of tequila under $30 is tougher than I first suspected. The sweet spot for a great bottle of tequila hovers just under $50; if you want something that really impresses, you can get there for under $100. But if you’re on a budget or you’re entertaining guests and you need a lot of tequila for a small amount of money, well, you’re going to have to make some sacrifices on flavor and overall experience.
While a good bottle under $30 is hard to find, don’t worry, there are a few out there — so you won’t have to succumb to the super cheap stuff that’ll burn your guest’s palates and cause wincing or worse, retching (looking at you, Cuervo Gold). Really, it all comes down to how the agave is cooked. In short, there are three popular ways agave is cooked, the best brands go the traditional route, cooking the agave in stone or brick ovens, a lengthy process that takes around 36 hours and requires a resting period. Behind that you have autoclave cooking, a high-pressure (sometimes low) steam situation that can cook a higher yield of agave in less than half the time. And then you have the most efficient method, the diffuse — blasting agave with high-pressure hot water and sometimes hydrochloric acid to essentially chemically cook often unripened agave at an incredibly fast pace.
Which of the three methods sounds like it’ll produce the best tequila? If time is money, we’re willing to bet that flavor comes from time. That doesn’t necessarily mean all oven-cooked tequilas are good, or better than something made in an autoclave, but diffuser-made tequila rarely results in a very good bottle. So for this list, we’ve made sure to give you only diffuser-free suggestions.
Unfortunately, there aren’t enough of them out there for us to suggest 10 bottles, so we’re going to have to keep his list a bit on the lighter end — no compromising quality for entries, sorry! At least you’ll know that no matter where you land on this list (we suggest you buy whichever is on sale) you’re going to get a truly solid and Uproxx tested bottle of tequila.
Something shootable. Nice in a cocktail. Probably not for sipping, unless you’re in a pinch. Let’s dive in!
You’ve no doubt seen bottles of Milagro at the bar or a friend’s bar cart and wondered to yourself: is that stuff any good? Well, yes! As great as the marketing and bottle design is, it doesn’t look like this brand spent all of the money on trying to trick you.
Hailing from NOM 1559, Tequila Milagro, this brand stone cooks its agave, utilizes roller mill extraction, and rests the produce in American white oak barrels for 2-4 months to reach the reposado state.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Agave and oak dominate, rich confection-like notes pull you in and a hint of cinnamon lurks underneath the layers.
Palate: Unfortunately that sweetness doesn’t completely translate to the flavor, you get the roasted agave flavor and an overpowering bit of oak, but there is an ethanol-like body that weighs the whole thing down.
Finish: It ends with a burn and a small vanilla lift with a hint of zesty citrus.
The Bottom Line:
Pleasant on the nose, a bit harsh on the palate, with a burning but generally pleasant close that’ll justify another shot or two. These issues tend to disappear in a cocktail.
In college, while smoking weed on a porch with a classmate, I was told that Gran Centenario was actually very expensive tequila but due to some importing issue (I can’t remember, I was high) vendors had to sell it for a much cheaper price than it was worth. I don’t know why this person told me that, but for years I had been parroting that information to friends and buying this bottle. I’m pretty sure it’s not true.
Gran Centenario is good, don’t get me wrong, but it costs what it’s worth and I’d probably only pick it up now if it was on sale. Produced at NOM 1112, the famed Casa Cuervo, this autoclave-cooked tequila is rested in new oak casks and aged for six months.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: You can really smell the wood on this one, it has a deep and rich aroma, and a strong and steady whiff will reveal chocolate and caramel under all the oak.
Palate: It hits the palate with an earthy bite and some cracked pepper notes before revealing sweeter vanilla and clove flavors. Still, a heavy alcohol taste muddies up the finer notes, but they’re there!
Finish: Cinnamon on the back end that is quickly interrupted by a dry and oaky finish.
The Bottom Line:
Don’t believe what stoned college friends tell you! Having said that, this is a good bottle of tequila that leans heavily on richer tones and woody flavors.
Lunazul is made from hand-harvested estate-grown Blue Weber agave from the red clay soil of Jalisco, cooked in an autoclave, fermented with proprietary yeast and twice distilled in copper coil stills at NOM 1513, Tierra De Agaves, home to just one other brand.
The result is a crystal clear blanco tequila in a beautiful thick glass bottle.
Tasting Notes:
Agave, pepper, alcohol, vanilla, pepper,
Nose:
Vanilla and roasted agave dominate the nose with an earthy dry vibe.
Palate:
It’s rare to get strong vegetal notes in a tequila this cheap, but there are here! This tequila has a noticeable fruity character mingling with vanilla notes and agave.
Finish:
That dry vibe latches onto the finish, there is a strong sense of pepper here and a sort of chemical mint aftertaste that lingers a little too long.
The Bottom Line:
Bright and biting, but in a harsh way. It’s fine in a cocktail, shooting it will burn your throat.
At this point, Espolòn is famous for being one of the best cheap bottles of tequila on the market. Believe the hype, there is a reason this is on every bar shelf and lands on numerous tasting lists, it’s no-nonsense tequila. It’s good, not great, but it knows what it is and doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not, so it gets extra points.
Produced at NOM 1440, Campari Mexico, home to just three brands, Espolòn relies on autoclave cooking and roller mill extraction.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Alcohol and juicy citrus. That’s it, it’s pretty flat on the nose.
Palate: The flavor delivers much more, a strong pineapple flavor comes to the forefront transitioning to dry pepper notes and some roasted agave. It’s trying to be vegetal and green, but the alcohol drowns it out.
Finish: Almost oily, like melted butter with a spicy pineapple finish.
The Bottom Line:
A versatile tequila, great for shooting and mixing. It punches above its weight and tastes even better on sale.
This brand is fairly new to me, but I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far. When a brand has a flashy label like this, more often than not it feels like a lot of money went to great design and little else, but Mi Campo delivers.
Produced at NOM 1137, the famously crowded La Cofradia, Mi Campo utilizes blue Weber agave that is cooked in stone brick ovens, screw mill extracted, fermented among local citrus trees, and aged in oak wine casks.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Very sweet, dominated by sweet vanilla and rich deep cocoa notes.
Palate: Oak forward, there are some earthy pepper notes, but without bright citrus tones to balance it out, it comes across as a bit harsh, but there is a nice spicy kick to it that piques the curiosity and inspires repeat sips.
Finish: Oily on the finish with a nice vanilla kiss.
The Bottom Line:
You’re going to get a lot of different sensations here, it offers the sort of journey a more expensive bottle will give you, but it tastes very geared toward those who like their tequila to bite back. If you’re looking for something smooth, look elsewhere.
Simple tequila. Olmeca Altos hails from NOM 1111, Pernod Richard Mexico, and is slow-cooked in brick ovens, crushed by a tahona roller mill, and fermented in copper pots. It’s simple, direct, and delicious. There is a reason we chose $30 as the price point for this article, and that’s to ensure we can include quality brands like this one.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Warm roasted agave, little else.
Palate: Citrusy, bright, vegetal, and biting. This tequila comes off as surprisingly natural.
Finish: Herbal before a hot alcohol burn fizzes on the palate. It’s juicy and mouthwatering, but hot on the finish.
Part of Corazón’s mid-tier Single Estate line, Corazón Blanco is, as the name would suggest, is made from single estate blue weber agave produced at NOM 1103. The agave is slow-cooked in stone and back ovens, roller mill extracted, and fermented open-air style in stainless steel tanks.
There is something very inviting about this clear unaged tequila and that glittering blue label.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Agave, citrus, and pineapple dance on the nose. The aroma is juicy and mouthwatering.
Palate: Jasmine and orange zest twirl into vegetal notes of green bell pepper and Anaheim chili. There is a mild spice here that is very unique to this brand.
Finish: The roasted agave lives on the finish mingling with orange citrus notes.
The Bottom Line:
A very bright and vegetal unaged tequila with a mild pepper spice to it.
Cimmaron is overseen by famed Master Distiller Enrique Fonseca at HOM 1146, Tequileña, and is the only tequila on this list that is completely additive free. Using estate-grown blue weber agave, this tequila is slow-cooked in an autoclave, screw and roller mill extracted, fermented in stainless still tanks, double distilled, and rested in American white oak for three to six months.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Cinnamon, oak, and warm roasted agave with a subtle kiss of vanilla lingering.
Palate: Suspiciously good, roasted agave and cinnamon hit the palate initially before the oak notes appear. The woody notes mingle with caramel and brown sugar.
Finish: Vanilla and honey. Almost mouthwatering.
The Bottom Line:
Far and above the best bottle of tequila you’re going to drink for under $30. Not even all that close.
