Chance The Rapper Surprised Fans At Lil Wayne’s ‘Welcome To Tha Carter’ Tour Stop In Chicago

Chance The Rapper is the newest coach on The Voice as of last month, and his recent surprise appearance on Lil Wayne’s Welcome To Tha Carter Tour was a worthy of a four-chair turn.

Wayne performed at Radius in Chicago on April 9, so it just made geographical sense to bring out Chance The Rapper for a performance of “No Problem” from Chance’s 2016 album, Coloring Book. The track featuring Lil Wayne and 2 Chainz peaked at No. 43 on the Billboard Hot 100, and it appears that fans’ enthusiasm for the song hasn’t waned in the nearly seven intervening years.

Wayne announced this North American run in January. Welcome To Tha Carter Tour kicked off on April 4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and landed in Toronto for tonight, April 12. The last date is scheduled for May 13 at The Wiltern in Los Angeles.

In February, Chance The Rapper dropped the “Historical Context Version” of a video for “Yah Know,” his single from November 2022. Around the premiere of The Voice‘s 23rd season in early March, Chance performed “Yah Know” on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

If you can’t catch Lil Wayne on his Welcome To Tha Carter Tour, maybe you’ll catch Chance The Rapper as a headliner for the Blue Note Jazz Festival Napa 2023 from July 28-30. See the full lineup here.

Is BMW Teasing A Frank Ocean Collaboration?

People love to speculate about Frank Ocean. To be fair, the “Ivy” singer is ever-mysterious and hasn’t released an album since the 2016 instant-classic Blonde. When rumors circulated about a Coachella performance, fans flipped out, and they ended up being right: He’s set to headline April 16 and 23.

Now, BMW are sparking conversation about a possible ad with Ocean. The company shared a clip at Coachella with an orange BMW E30 M3, which appears on the artwork of Ocean’s Nostalgia, Ultra mixtape. The caption encourages conspiring: “The past meets the future this week. As far as what comes next, we’ll let you guys prophesy.”

To Ocean fanatics, this seems like an obvious clue. They’re hoping that this means Nostalgia, Ultra will finally come to streaming. It came out in 2011, self-produced and released via his Tumblr. However, he got in trouble with The Eagles’ Don Henley for sampling “Hotel California” in his song “American Wedding”; Henley threatened to sue if he even performed the track.

Last year, there were rumors that Ocean was in talks with A24 and 2AM about writing and directing his own feature film. It wasn’t that surprising considering he wrote and directed the 46-minute film Endless to go with his album of the same title.

The ‘Algiers, America’ Trailer Follows A Championship Football Team In The Shadow Of Gun Violence

There’s no shortage of documentaries about high school football teams chasing the glory of a championship, but Algiers, America might stand head and shoulders above the rest. The docuseries from journalist and Vice alum Jackson Fager interweaves stories about the Edna Karr Cougars marching toward a hopeful winning season with the fuller picture of their community being ripped apart by gun violence and the carceral state.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Algiers, America is a five-part documentary that chronicles the journey of Coach Brice Brown, the Edna Karr Cougars, and their quest for a fifth state championship in six years. Connected to the Cougars are a collection of compelling characters in and out of the school – a passionate community leader and educator, a charismatic marching band leader, and a group of families fighting the epidemics of gun violence and mass imprisonment. Altogether, the series is a rare, authentic, captivating, candid, and sometimes difficult look at life in a community fighting to be defined by triumph on the football field and far beyond. This limited docu-series will at once break your heart and inspire you with its gripping tale, unforgettable characters, and tribute to possibility.”

That many episodes offer a massive amount of breathing room for an undeniable, undoubtedly complicated and vital picture that takes us past the stadium lights out into the neighborhood. It looks excellent and hits Hulu in its entirety on April 19th.

James Wan Might Produce A ‘Conjuring’ Series For Max (Formerly HBO Max)

If you’re paying very close attention, you might be able to spot a theme in the projects announced as part of the roll out for Max. You can also see how ridiculous it is to say that Max is rolling out new series. With the “HBO” part of HBO Max gone, and only the modifier left, the executive team is leaning hard into established IP. There’s more Game of Thrones, more Harry Potter, more Oswald Cobblepot, more Big Bang Theory, and, yes, more Conjuring.

According to Variety, the phenomenally successful horror franchise is headed to Max as a series under the watchful gaze of producer Peter Safran, who produced the original 2013 film and is currently co-chief of DC properties. James Wan is also in talks to executive produce, which would add a lot of heft and visionary faith in the eventual show.

As a continuation of the story — which has fanned out almost unbelievably in only ten years and 7 movies — it will be interesting to see if Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson return for the series. Neither are strangers to episodic storytelling, and both have stayed loyal to the horror franchise, appearing again in 2021’s The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Oddly enough, even they aren’t involved, it’s not difficult to imagine this series moving in a different direction and still being awesome.

A wild goose was taken to an animal hospital. His mate knocked on the door to find him.

As if a Canada goose named Arnold isn’t endearing enough, his partner who came looking for him when he was injured is warming hearts and having us root for this sweet feathered couple.

Cape Wildlife Center in Barnstable, Massachusetts shared the story on its Facebook page, in what they called “a first” for their animal hospital.

“We often have people ask if they can visit the patients they dropped off, but today we had our first animal visitor!” they wrote. “For the safety of our patients we do not accommodate visitation requests, but in this case we had to make an exception!”

Arnold is a Canada goose that lives on a pond near the facility and is part of a mated pair of wild geese that have been together for several years. The center said the geese usually keep to themselves, but one of their staff noticed that Arnold was walking with a “significant limp” and kept falling over. They were able to capture him and bring him into the hospital for examination.

wild goose

“Upon exam our veterinary team found that he had two open-fractures on his foot,” they wrote. “This means that the tissue and skin has been pulled away leaving the bone exposed. Our best guess is that a Snapping turtle or other predator attacked him while swimming.”

To save his foot and help him survive, the staff knew they had to amputate one of the digits and suture the other wound closed. They gave him antibiotics and pain meds and prepped him for surgery the following morning.

Then his mate came knocking.

“Today, as we prepared to sedate Arnold and get him ready for surgery, we heard a faint tapping at the clinic door,” the center wrote. “We turned to see that his mate had waddled up onto the porch and was attempting to break into our clinic! She had somehow located him and was agitated that she could not get inside. She remained there throughout the entire procedure, watching us work, never moving from the doorway.”

Aww.

Surgery went well, and once Arnold woke up the staff decided to let him recover by the doorway so he and his mate could see each other.

“We opened the door and gave Arnold his flow-by oxygen in the doorway. His mate immediately calmed down and began to groom him through the door. They both seemed much more at ease in each other’s presence.”

AWWWW.

“Arnold will likely need several weeks of treatment in our hospital before he is ready to rejoin his mate in the wild,” they added. “He will need to be kept inside for the majority of this time in order to keep his wound sterile and prevent infection. We will do our best to get him back out quickly and will perform bandage changes and treatments in view of the doorway when possible so that his mate can check up on him. ❤️”

While attempting not to anthropomorphize too much, it’s so sweet to see animal partners show such genuine care for one another. Canada geese mate for life, and they are known to mourn in seclusion when they lose a mate. Seeing Arnold’s mate coming to find him and comfort him during his treatment is just too lovely.

Feel good story of the day, indeed. Wishing you a speedy recovery, Arnold!

A woman’s 7-year-old is labeled a ‘flight risk’ at school and the reason is a wild ride

In every family, there’s always that one kid. You know, the one that has you questioning from an early age if they’re going to grow up to be a lawyer or a convict. It seems that a mom named Kristina, who runs the account @lifewithlocklyn, is asking herself this very question. Kristina uploaded a now-viral video to social media after finding out her 7-year-old daughter, Locklyn, has been labeled as a “flight risk” at school.

Apparently, Locklyn is not only giving her mom a run for her money, but the principal and teachers, too. Listening to the exasperated mom tell the story of how her daughter ended up on the list to watch at school is a roller coaster of laughter and admiration. This little girl is not only smart; she’s also honest and doesn’t believe in tattling to get her accomplices in any trouble. She’s ready to take the heat for all involved if anyone’s parent has to be called.

The whole thing started when Locklyn, who is likely in second grade given her age, decided that recess was way too short. Instead of pleading her case to the powers that be, this go-getter decided to collude with other kids she rallied to get extra recess time.

You may be wondering how exactly a 7-year-old little girl pulled off something so coordinated without the help of someone older. But the girl is smart and clearly capable of staging a full-blown coup over the playground if given the opportunity. Locklyn convinced her friends to hide around the perimeter of the building when everyone was called to line up to go inside. On her command, the few friends she gathered hid and sat quietly, awaiting a signal from the ringleader to know the coast was clear.

Alas, her plan was foiled when a sixth-grader spotted Locklyn’s head when she peaked out to see if the coast was clear. Instead of adhering to the “snitches get stitches” code that clearly Locklyn honored, the older kid told the teacher and their clandestine plan was thwarted.

“Upon arrival to the principal’s office, Locklyn looked at her friends and was like, ‘I’ve got this one,'” the mom says before she continues on to retell her child’s explanation to the principal. “They had a supply teacher who didn’t know their names and probably wouldn’t notice they were missing. She also said that they weren’t planning on getting caught.”

And in the words of every criminal on “Scooby Doo,” they probably would’ve gotten away with it, too if it weren’t for that meddling kid. Oh, Locklyn, we love your moxie.

Another ‘Big Bang Theory’ Spin-Off Is Headed To Max

Amid the big announcement that HBO Max is changing its name to Max and launching new versions of old properties, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting that The Big Bang Theory is getting another spin-off for the streaming service. At the end of the 12-year run of the wildly popular sitcom, Sheldon and Amy won Nobel Prizes, Leonard and Penny were pregnant, Howard and Bernadette were immersed fully into parenthood, and Raj got to meet Sarah Michelle Gellar, which is a lot like winning a Nobel Prize.

The show also launched the prequel spin-off Young Sheldon, which is currently in its 6th of 100 seasons.

Where a new spin-off might go is anyone’s guess. However, the original show ended after Jim Parsons chose to forego $50 million for two more seasons, and creator Chuck Lorre said he wouldn’t do the show unless the entire ensemble was in it. Thus, it’s a little tricky to see the spin-off featuring Leonard and Penny as parents unless everyone wants to come back as wacky neighbors. Or if the money is right. You never know where some creative inspiration might come from if the check is big enough.

Regardless, the bazingalistic legacy of the longest-running multicam comedy lives on with this announcement.

Warner Bros. Discovery’s Big Day Of Revelations And Name Changes Ends With Their Stock Dipping 6%

Wednesday was a big day for Warner Bros. Discovery. They revealed they were changing the name of their streamer from HBO Max to simply Max. They formally announced new Harry Potter and Game of Thrones shows and more. There were teasers and first looks galore. It was CEO David Zaslav’s chance to show off all his hard work since taking over last year, and it should have ended on a high note. Instead it did the opposite.

As per Variety, at the close of Wednesday shares for the mega-company weren’t up but down, albeit slightly, at “only” about 6%. Granted, the media company wasn’t the only one whose stocks went down. Something similar happened to Disney (down 2.5%), Paramount Global (down 3.3%), and Netflix (down 2%).

Warner Bros. Discovery’s stocks have struggled over the last year. Right now it’s worth $14.05 but towards the end of last year it dipped below $10. Since then it’s hovered around the $14-$16 range.

Zavlav’s reign has been a controversial one, with lots of controversial cancellations and fears that the very popular and very acclaimed HBO Max — sorry: Max — would be stripped of all the things that make it arguably the best mainstream streamer on the market. But hey, at least they’re gaining such classy Discovery shows as MILF Manor.

Davido’s Triumphant ‘Unavailable’ Video Marks The Long-Awaited Return Of A King

Davido deserves all the good coming his way since Timeless, his fourth studio album, arrived on March 31. The project earned “the most first-day streams ever for an African album on Apple Music,” as noted by Apple Music on April 3, and Davido was glowing while performing a medley of “Feel” and “Unavailable” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last week.

It all comes weeks after Davido announced Timeless alongside a message thanking his fans for their support as he grieved his three-year-old son, who passed away in a drowning accident last fall.

“There is a time for everything. A time to Grieve and a time to Heal,” Davido wrote on March 21. “A time to Laugh and a time to Dance. A time to Speak and A time for Silence. Thank you to everyone out there for your love and support that has held me down. All the love and messages while I was away, the gifts sent, the concerts you all threw! I appreciate it all. Today, I want to remind you all that what is now Timeless, was once new. It’s time for new.”

Tuesday, April 11, was the time for the video for “Unavailable” featuring Musa Keys to drop. Directed by Dammy Twitch, it begins with various people tuning into a radio host saying, “I’m here to say the King Of Afrobeats is back, baby! I’m talking about Davido. He’s back with a brand new album, and I’m talking hit after hit. Thank you, Davido.”

Davido is dripping in the uninhibited joy possessed by someone who is, in fact, back, baby — dancing without a care in the world.

Davido explained on Instagram that “Unavailable” is “our first visual for Timeless so this one means a lot to me. Just know the work we’re putting into this album and all that’s to come is for you! We gotta go all out so we’re just getting started. Special thank you to my @martellofficial family for the role they played in making this movie. We are back better and stronger ! More surprises with them on the way.”

Indie Mixtape 20: Fenne Lily Doesn’t Hide Her Talents On Her Gripping Album, ‘Big Picture’

When times are tough, it can be difficult to see the big picture. That’s exactly how Fenne Lily was feeling while writing her latest album. She was grappling with isolation and existential crisis that, let’s face it, so many people were experiencing in 2020. But the only way to move past tough emotions is through them, and Fenne Lily’s third album Big Picture exemplifies that. “Writing this album was my attempt at bringing some kind of order to the disaster that was 2020,” she said in a statement. “By documenting the most vulnerable parts of that time, I felt like I reclaimed some kind of autonomy.”

And document vulnerability she did. Pastoral ballads like “Lights Light Up” and “Red Deer Day” offer tender and thoughtful reflections, while the swelling “Half Finished” is a cinematic album closer that asks big questions like, “If I could change one thing about myself, what would it be and why?” Her voice is hushed yet self-assured as she sings of combating self-doubt, finding redemption, and finally letting go. “2020 was the year of letting go,” she adds, “but we’d all already let go of so much and nothing felt like mine anymore. Writing always did, though, so that’s what I chose to do.”

Ahead of the release of Big Picture, Fenne Lily sits down with Uproxx to talk Nick Cave, sleeping next to Metallica’s tour guitars, and getting a tattoo with a stranger in our latest Q&A.

What are four words you would use to describe your music?

Based on true events.

It’s 2050 and the world hasn’t ended and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

As something still worth listening to.

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform?

Whichever one I’m living in, Berlin in close second.

Who’s the person who has most inspired your work, and why?

I wanted to write music because of my piano teacher Rob, I kept going because nothing else calmed me down.

Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

I don’t usually remember food but I remember Forever Thai on Flushing in Brooklyn. Unparalleled spring rolls.

What album do you know every word to?

Genuinely none.

What was the best concert you’ve ever attended?

Nick Cave at Primavera.

What is the best outfit for performing and why?

Something that suits standing in any way and hides my knees but not my butt.

What’s your most frequently played song in the van on tour?

We’ve had tours where “Jack In Titanic” by Bodega has had to be rationed.

Bieber blowing a kiss, all spelled wrong.

What album makes for the perfect gift?

Something you don’t love so much that it’ll change your relationship if the other person doesn’t love it, too.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crashed while on tour?

We slept in Metallica’s guitar tech’s living room surrounded by Metallicas guitars.

What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?

I have one under my elbow that I drew while I was staying in Berlin. I went to get it done with a woman I met at a show — it was her boyfriend’s show and they had a little kid and we all hung out together for a few days and then got tattoos and I haven’t seen her since. I like those kinds of friends.

What artists keep you from flipping the channel on the radio?

So my favorite bands right now are Friendship, MJ Lenderman and Anna Tivel.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Ask for help before you’re crying.
