The Weeknd Seemingly Confirmed He’s Making A Surprise Coachella 2023 Appearance

Coachella 2023 is coming up this weekend, and just hours ago, the set times were revealed. A previously unannounced Blink-182 performance was a surprise, but it may not be the only unexpected twist: The Weeknd isn’t officially on the lineup, but it looks like he may end up performing at the festival regardless.

He stirred up some speculation on April 10, tweeting, “[desert emoji] ?” He followed that with,”where will you find me ?”

Then, during a recent Instagram Live session (as Complex notes), The Weeknd told somebody off camera, “You just said ‘see you in the desert’ on Live. Exposed,” seemingly indicating that they “exposed” his surprise Coachella appearance.

On top of that, fan Twitter account @abelstargirllll shared a graphic of The Weeknd yesterday (April 12) and wrote, “THE WEEKND WILL PERFORM AT COACHELLA THIS YEAR.” While that in itself isn’t a big deal, The Weeknd retweeted the post.

The Weeknd could potentially make guest appearances during other sets, as some of his collaborators/associates are performing, like Metro Boomin, Calvin Harris, and Kaytranada. He could also pop up during Blackpink’s headlining performance, considering he and the group’s Jennie star in the upcoming HBO series The Idol together.

Blink-182 Joined The 2023 Coachella Lineup Last-Minute And Tom DeLonge Announced The First Reunion Show With A Profane Post

The first weekend of Coachella 2023 is now just a day away with festivities starting tomorrow (Friday, April 14). A few hours ago, festival organizers unveiled the complete schedule for Weekend 1, and people were quick to notice that a previously unannounced set from Blink-182 is set for Friday at 6:45 p.m. PT on the Sahara stage. In case that wasn’t clear enough, Coachella also made the news pretty obvious, tweeting out the schedule with the caption, “Take off your pants and jacket.”

This will be Blink’s first concert with Tom DeLonge back in the lineup. Speaking of DeLonge, he confirmed the Coachella news by sharing what appears to be a photo from a rehearsal. The shot is focused on a monitor that reads, “Sh*t, piss, f*ck, c*nt, c*cksucker, motherf*cker, tits, fart, turd & twat.” Those are lyrics from the band’s 1999 single “Family Reunion,” which is essentially a take on George Carlin’s classic “seven dirty words” routine.

This comes not long after Travis Barker had surgery to repair his broken finger. In a March post, he wrote, “Thank you for all the love and prayers and understanding this week as I went into surgery. It was a hard decision to make but ultimately I couldn’t continue to play the drums without it. It was inevitable that my finger would have dislocated again without fixing the torn ligament surgically.”

The Thunder Outlasted The Pelicans In A Sensational Play-In Thriller

After a slugfest in Toronto saw the Bulls advance to Friday’s final Play-In game in the East against Miami, the Thunder and Pelicans produced a much more enjoyable aesthetic in the nightcap of the 9-10 showdowns.

The two up-and-coming squads went back-and-forth, trading leads after each of the first three quarters. After a quick start from New Orleans, OKC took a slight advantage after the first quarter thanks to a hot shooting start from Luguentz Dort, as he caught fire from deep, scoring 20 of his 27 in the first half.

The Pelicans stormed back in the second quarter to take a six-point advantage at the break. Brandon Ingram was leading the way as always, but it was really Jonas Valanciunas asserting his will inside, as he finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds, and Herbert Jones and Trey Murphy III getting loose that tilted the scales in New Orleans’ favor,

In the third quarter, Josh Giddey and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander started to percolate, as the Thunder flipped the game to take a nine-point lead into the fourth quarter, as OKC’s backcourt duo wreaking havoc on the Pelicans defense.

The Pelicans would quickly close the gap down again to start the fourth, and late in the quarter the two teams traded blows, with the top stars taking center stage in the duel. Ingram, as he so often does, went to work in the midrange, disregarding some terrific defense from Dort and the rest of the Thunder to knock down some incredibly tough buckets.

However, SGA had the answers, as he likewise showed off his shot-making chops over similarly sticky defense from Jones.

After getting a crucial stop, the Thunder found themselves trying to keep the Pelicans at arm’s reach at the free throw line and by keeping New Orleans from getting off threes. They succeeded for awhile, long enough to build a 4-point edge, but Ingram made things very interesting with a wild three that he felt should’ve been a four-point play opportunity.

Unfortunately, after a pair of SGA free throws made it a three-point game again with 2.8 seconds left, the Pelicans threw the inbounds pass away, as Herbert Jones wasn’t on the same page with CJ McCollum, taking away a chance at a last gasp three to tie things.

It was a spectacular game featuring two of the games brightest young stars and plenty of role players stepping up to hit big shots and make big plays throughout. Ingram finished the night with 30 points, seven assists, and six rebounds in the loss, with Murphy and Jones combining for 41 as they each stepped up in big ways offensively, along with the aforementioned double-double from Valanciunas. However, it just wasn’t quite enough to take down the Thunder’s onslaught from Gilgeous-Alexander (32 points, five rebounds, three assists) and Giddey (31 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds), with Dort’s 27 points providing the support needed to lift OKC to a showdown in Minnesota for the 8-seed.

Saba Teams Up With No ID For The Slick New Song ‘Back In Office’

Last year, Saba unveiled his new album Few Good Things. It had a ton of features, such as 6lack and Amino for “Still,” Krayzie Bone for “Come My Way,” G Herbo for “Survivor’s Guilt,” and more. He’s back today (April 12) with another collaboration, this time with No ID for “Back In Office.”

It immediately starts off with a slick flow and only gets better throughout. “This is for the amateurs, this is what a master raps / Some of them not amateurs, but next to me they sound like that,” Saba flexes.

In our 2022 interview with Saba, he discussed his interest in visual mediums since he shot a short film called Few Good Things to go with his album.

“I think the cool part of being able to play music, but music specifically that is lyric-based, is that we’re able to use our language to set scenes,” he told Uproxx. “We can make our language really visual, and I think that’s one of the elements that make telling personal stories, firsthand, telling things that are valuable to me, I think that’s one of the things that makes it unique. It makes people connect to it, but I think it’s always been — with our writing style — it’s always been really visual.”

Warner Bros. Discovery Brass Don’t Seem To Want To Talk About J.K. Rowling’s, Uh, Beliefs Amidst ‘The Harry Potter’ Show News

What do you do if you the person you really want to go into business with has a habit of spouting hateful nonsense? That’s the question Warner Bros. Discovery execs have to ask themselves after revealing they are indeed, as predicted, launching a Harry Potter show — with input from J.K. Rowling. On one hand, Rowling has added “incorrigible anti-trans lunatic” to her CV. On the other, she owns the rights to her money-gobbling creation. WB Discovery’s solution? Just try not to talk about the first part.

As per Variety, after the epic presentation that unveiled a weird new name change for HBO Max, a bunch of new shows, and more, Casey Bloys, chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, took some questions. One, inevitably, was about how Rowling has caught the ire of even the most ardent Potter fanatics and driven stars of the original films to do things like lend a helping hand to trans youth. But Bloys knew how to handle the query, mostly by dancing around it.

“No, I don’t think this is the forum,” Bloys replied. “That’s a very online conversation, very nuanced and complicated and not something we’re going to get into.”

But Bloys did get into it, sort of. “Our priority is what’s on the screen,” Bloys said. “Obviously, the ‘Harry Potter’ story is incredibly affirmative and positive and about love and self-acceptance. That’s our priority — what’s on screen.”

As for how involved Rowling will be, Bloys said, simply, that she “will be involved. She’s an executive producer on the show. Her insights are going to be helpful on that.” She added, “The TV show is new and we’re excited about that, but, remember, we’ve been in the ‘Potter’ business for 20 years. This is not a new decision for us, we’re very comfortable being in the ‘Potter’ business.”

The Potter show isn’t some prequel, like the middling Fantastic Beasts series, which all but fizzled out by its third entry. It’s going back to the original books, with each season tackling one of the books, treating them to greater detail than could be afforded in a two-hours-and-change movie film.

Will Rowling’s involvement create controversy over the show? Definitely. Will tons of people watch it anyway. Almost certainly. But the news added a dark cloud to what should have been a triumphant day. And then at the end of the day, almost as an ominous sign, Warner Bros. Discovery’s stock took a dip.

Paul Simon Announced His New Album ‘Seven Psalms’ And Shared A Behind-The-Scenes Trailer

Paul Simon is back with the announcement of Seven Psalms, his first album of new material since the 2016 release Stranger To Stranger. The record is 33 minutes, and the seven songs are each considered to serve as “movements,” according to the press release; it’s “intended to be listened to as one continuous piece.” He shared a trailer to increase anticipation for the album.

The press release also notes that Seven Psalms is recorded “entirely on acoustic instruments, and predominantly performed by Paul.” It follows the 2018 release of the LP In The Blue Light, which was made up of re-recordings of older songs.

“This album consists of songs that I thought were almost right, or were odd enough to be overlooked the first time around,” he explained in a press release at the time. “Re-doing arrangements, harmonic structures, and lyrics that didn’t make their meaning clear, gave me time to clarify in my own head what I wanted to say, or realize what I was thinking and make it more easily understood.”

Check out the tracklist for Seven Psalms below. Watch the trailer above.

1. “The Lord”
2. “Love Is Like A Braid”
3. “My Professional Opinion”
4. “Your Forgiveness”
5. “Trail of Volcanoes”
6. “The Sacred Harp”
7. “Wait”

Seven Psalms is out 5/19 via Owl Records and Legacy Recordings.

Jamie Foxx Suffered A ‘Medical Complication’ But He’s ‘On His Way To Recovery,’ His Daughter Said

Jamie Foxx experienced what sounds like a significant health scare this week, according to a statement from Corinne Foxx, his daughter, and TMZ.

On Wednesday night, April 12, Corinne posted to Instagram:

“From the Foxx Family:

We wanted to share that, my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced medical complication yesterday. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery.

We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time.

Much love,
The Foxx Family”

According to TMZ, Foxx was hospitalized.

“We’re told his condition was serious enough that Jamie’s family — some of whom were not in town — came to the hospital,” the outlet relayed. “One source told us, ‘He’s communicating now, and that’s good news.’”

People and TMZ both noted that Foxx has been in Atlanta filming Back In Action, his Netflix action movie with Cameron Diaz that was announced last June.

“When this project came along and she was pursued by Jamie Foxx, who she has known and worked with for years, she decided to go for it,” an unnamed source shared with People last July regarding why Diaz decided to come out of her acting retirement.

Foxx last posted to Instagram six days ago. The 55-year-old Oscar- and Grammy-winning icon appeared happy and healthy on a yacht. Hopefully, he’ll be able to resume his favorite activities sooner than later.

Speedy Ortiz Doesn’t Want To Hear Any Excuses In ‘Scabs,’ Their First Single In Five Years

Speedy Ortiz performed a cover of “Silence Kid” at Pavement’s four-day pop-up exhibition, Pavements: 1933-2022: A Pavement Museum, in New York City last fall. As of today, April 12, we no longer have to live in the past.

Speedy Ortiz shared “Scabs,” their first original single since 2018. According to a press release, it’s also the “first to feature longtime touring members Audrey Zee Whitesides and Joey Doubek.” The bassist and drummer, respectively, join existing members Sadie Dupuis (also known as Sad13).

“Living in progressive cities and working in the arts, you meet peers doing tremendous organizing work. And then there are neighbors who signal their ‘good’ politics through yard signs alone,” Dupuis said in a statement. “I wrote ‘Scabs’ standing in line at the post office, overhearing customers berate a USPS employee. This was during a time of postal unions-opposed budget cuts and other major issues for mail handlers, which were widely reported on. People advertising their support for essential workers acted conversely when faced with personal inconvenience. The song became more widely about self-designated ethicists who don’t quibble about crossing a picket line for individual benefit.”

Speedy Ortiz succinctly delivers such a nuanced message with cutting lines such as “Born-to-scab solipsists are boogying for big commission,” “Yes in your backyard you take handshake squeezes to extremes,” and “Who do you wanna prove you’re a big dog to? / You turn the screw, but you’re using the wrong size tool.”
