When Is Record Store Day 2023?

Taylor Swift sold 1.695 million total vinyl records last year, as reported by Billboard in January. The week ending in December 25, 2022 was the third-largest vinyl sales weeks since 1991, per Luminate, with the likes of Swift, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, Olivia Rodrigo, Kendrick Lamar, Adele, and more leading the way in 2022 as a whole.

In February, it was announced that Swift will release her Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions in vinyl form on 2023 Record Store Day, which is exactly one month away. Swift was the first global Record Store Day ambassador in 2022.

This year, Jason Isbell and Amanda Shires Amanda Shires are serving as Record Store Day ambassadors — the first couple to do so.

“We’re happy to be your Record Store Day Ambassadors for 2023,” Isbell said in a video shared to his Twitter on January 30. “We think record stores are so important, not only to the musicians who play in them — like Amanda did so many times this year and I’ve done in the past — but also to the communities and to people who love music and people who love art.”

The Vinyl Factory shared all the titles that will be available on Saturday, April 22, and Record Store Day’s official website provides a list of participating record stores.

The Warriors Got Two Free Points Out Of A Timeout Because Dallas Thought It Was Their Ball

The Warriors and Mavs met in Dallas on Wednesday night in a pivotal game in the crowded Western Conference playoff race, as the winner would exit the game with a tenuous hold on the 6-seed, which is the final guaranteed playoff position.

As such, every basket was important in a back-and-forth game where neither team was able to take more than a 9-point advantage. So, coming out of a Mavs timeout in a one-point game late in the third quarter, there was mass confusion when the Warriors just got a free dunk for Kevon Looney after Dallas failed to have anyone on the defensive end of the floor because they thought it was their ball, being advanced into the frontcourt.

Jason Kidd was very mad on the sidelines, running out to midcourt to try and get an explanation from the officials, but despite his protest, the bucket counted. The official play-by-play lists the play prior to the Mavs timeout as a missed three from Anthony Lamb rebounded by Looney. How the Mavs called a timeout on defense without the ball, I’m not sure, but in a game of this magnitude it is rather wild to see this kind of lapse and no one to recognize what happened until the Warriors were given the ball and allowed to inbound it.

The dunk made it a three-point game and we’ll see if this play is just a weird moment or a pivotal one in a game that could very well be decided by one possession.

Aaron Sorkin Had A Stroke Last Fall That Was So Bad He Thought He’d Never Write Again

Legendary film/TV/theater scribe Aaron Sorkin‘s reimagined Camelot Broadway musical is only a few weeks away from its debut, but just a few months before it was supposed to begin rehearsals, Sorkin suffered a severe stroke. As Sorkin told The New York Times, his blood pressure was so high that “you’re supposed to be dead.”

“There was a minute when I was concerned that I was never going to be able to write again, and I was concerned in the short-term that I wasn’t going to be able to continue writing Camelot,” Sorkin said, adding that he’s now completely fine and perfectly capable of getting new writing work done.

Following the November stroke, Sorkin reported that he was slurring his words for about a month afterward, and still cannot taste food, but can now sign his own name and can type.

Plus, the show goes on. Sorkin fans will know that he has a deep and abiding love for musical theater, so Camelot — which stars Phillipa Soo as Guenevere, Andrew Burnap as Arthur, and Jordan Donica as Lancelot — is a culmination of talent and enthusiasm. The only question left is whether it will include as much slow motion fighting as Guy Ritchie’s version. The answer is probably no, but how else is it going to best To Kill A Mockingbird‘s nine Tony nominations?

Jordan Klepper Can’t Seem To Find Many MAGA Protesters At The Manhattan Criminal Court Building In His Latest Segment

On Tuesday, Donald Trump suffered a great indignity. No, he wasn’t indicted. (Though that seems to be what he wants now.) It was that his attempt at Jan. 6 redux was a big old flop. The former president on Saturday beckoned his supporters to “PROTEST” over Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg’s case against him. Almost no one did. And Jordan Klepper was there to witness his latest flop.

In a quickly-turned-around segment, the Daily Show correspondent hops on the subway to Lower Manhattan, where throngs were expected to be protesting outside the Manhattan Criminal Court building. Instead he discovered somewhere between three and six showed up. (Those brave few that did were outnumbered by counter protesters by about three.)

That left Klepper with few MAGA heads to engage with, but he found at least three. He chatted with one gentleman who refused to acknowledge that Joe Biden is literally the president, even claiming there were no pictures or videos of him entering or leaving the White House. (That is untrue.) Another referred to Michelle Obama as “Michael.”

One protester, his face mostly concealed, argued that it was all “political,” and that no one else has been charged for the Stormy Daniels hush money. Klepper pointed out that they did by imprisoning Trump’s former lawyer, Michael Cohen. The person argued that that should mean no one else should be charged with the same crime. As for Trump allegedly cheating on his current wife with a porn star a decade and a half ago, the man said, “Listen…we men!”

You can watch Klepper’s latest segment in the video above.

Even The Trailer For Cristian Mungiu’s ‘R.M.N.’ Is A Barn Burner

We’ve come to expect life-altering drama from Romanian auteur Cristian Mungiu, but it turns out that even the trailers for his films are miniature powerhouses on their own. At least that’s the case for the RMN trailer, which shows the increasing complexity and expanding plot of small town tensions. At a crossroads of economic scarcity and xenophobia, it’s a good bet that this Romanian project’s themes should feel familiar.

Here’s the official synopsis:

“A few days before Christmas, having quit his job in Germany, Matthias returns to his multi-ethnic Transylvanian village. He wishes to involve himself more in the education of his son, Rudi, left for too long in the care of his mother, Ana, and to rid the boy of the unresolved fears that have taken hold of him. He’s preoccupied with his old father, Otto, and also eager to see his ex-lover, Csilla. When a few new workers are hired at the small factory that Csilla manages, the peace of the community is disturbed, underlying fears grip the adults, and frustrations, conflicts and passions erupt through the thin veneer of apparent understanding and calm.”

RMN was hailed at Cannes, which is par for the course for Mungiu. The film, which stars Marin Grigore, Judith State, Macrina Bârlădeanu, hits theaters on April 28th.

The ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always’ Trailer Brings Rita Repulsa Back From The Dead

Somehow, Rita Repulsa has climbed out of the space dumpster to threaten the entire world yet again. That’s the bad news. The worse news is that she’s going to go back in time to before the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers were made mighty, morphin, and powerful.

The trailer for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always is a nostalgic affair that recognizes that not all memories are good ones. Yes, Billy (David Yost) and Zack (Walter Emanuel Jones) are teaming with the second generation crew, Rocky (Steve Cardenas), Kat (Catherine Sutherland), and Adam (Johnny Yong Bosch), but the original Yellow Ranger, Thuy Trang, died in 2001 in a car accident, and Green Ranger Jason David Frank died last year. Without both, there are two massive holes in the lineup. As a result, the trailer is appropriately down tempo, even with its exciting fan service.

Karan Ashley also appears as Aisha Campbell/the second Yellow Ranger, but new character Minh Kwan (Charlie Kersh) is introduced as Trini Kwan’s daughter, meaning she’s destined to become the next Yellow Ranger. In fact, it looks like that’s the main thrust of the plot — stopping Rita from destroying the world, and getting Minh Kwan up to speed on how to join the team.

Of course, the most fascinating thing about the trailer is that the Netflix show looks nothing like a Netflix show. The production has smartly avoided the Netflix house style in favor of making something that looks like it might have sprung straight out of 1994.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once & Always lands April 19th. Get ready to pump your fist in the air while sobbing.

‘Counter-Strike 2’ Was Suddenly Announced And We Already Have An Expected Release Time

For years, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has been considered one of the peaks of competitive gaming. CS:GO has long been adored by players thanks to its emphasis on quick reaction time, aim, and gameplay, with all competitive shooters released after it being held to its standard. Even as other games rose and fell in popularity, a dedicated group of fans has continued playing CS:GO and kept it as one of the most played first-person shooters on Steam at any given point.

So of course there had to be a follow up! On Wednesday, Valve released three videos to their YouTube channel and a website all dedicated to the next game in the franchise, Counter-Strike 2. While CS:GO receiving a sequel wasn’t a huge shock, the announcement itself was pretty much out of nowhere and a welcome surprise. Even better? The game is expected to have a Summer 2023 release so we don’t have to wait too much longer to get our hands on the finished product.

How long will the Counter-Strike 2 Limited Test last?
Counter-Strike 2 is expected to ship Summer 2023.

Please visit the Counter-Strike blog for up-to-date information on the limited test and future announcements.

For those who won’t be able to wait for the game, it looks like there will be a limited test that players can sign up for and play in until the game releases. Also, when it does release it will be available as a free upgrade for CS:GO. It sounds like more information is on the way so we can expect future updates with more info about Valve’s latest game in the coming months.

Daft Punk Release The Laid-Back Single ‘The Writing of Fragments of Time’ With Todd Edwards

Daft Punk fans were devastated upon the breakup of the duo in 2021. They shared the news with an eight-minute video titled “Epilogue,” which included the message: “1993-2021.” Last month, they announced the 10th anniversary edition of Random Access Memories, and the previously unreleased song “The Writing Of Fragments Of Time” is out now as a single.

“The Writing Of Fragments Of Time” is a collaboration with Todd Edwards, and it’s a groovy, laid-back tune with Giorgio Moroder telling a story over the hypnotic instrumental. At over eight minutes, it’s a song that transports its listener and leaves them feeling anew.

A press release about the reissue read: “The album marked a new creative approach for Daft Punk, recorded over the course of several years using analog equipment rather than digital, with first time collaborations with a host of musical luminaries including Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Todd Edwards, and Paul Williams. Random Access Memories 10th Anniversary Edition, Daft Punk pull the curtain back on some of the intimate creative process behind the album: 35 minutes of unreleased music across nine tracks.”

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Cozy Winter Look And Big Glasses At Her Ski Incident Trial Are Inspiring Lots Of Jokey Comparisons

Gwyneth Paltrow is on trial, but not for anything related to her business. It’s over an incident that happened in 2016 on the slopes of Park City, Utah. A retired optometrist claims the actress and businesswoman violently crashed into her while skiing. Paltrow says it was the other way around. Wherever the truth lies, right now people can’t get over her courtroom look.

As per The New York Times, the trial entered its second day on Wednesday, with Paltrow expected to testify on the stand at some point during the next two weeks, which is how long it’s expected to last. It will be up to a jury to decide who to believe. The optometrist, one Terry Sanderson, has accused Paltrow of skiing “out of control” and hitting him in the back, causing a traumatic brain injury and four broken ribs, along with other serious injuries. Sanderson also claims the incident completely changed his personality, which a radiologist confirmed on Wednesday.

“Before this crash, Terry was a charming, outgoing, gregarious person,” said Lawrence D. Buhler, one of the lawyers, in the opening statement Tuesday. “After the crash, he’s no longer charming.”

Paltrow, who is countersuing but only for the cost of her legal team, has claimed she was downhill from Sanderson taking skiing lessons during a family vacation. Her lawyers say that while skiing she saw “two skis appear between her skis and a man comes up right behind her” before he struck her. Paltrow’s legal team claims that some of his trauma, including brain trauma, comes from before the incident.

A verdict is still a ways away, but social media has already turned this into the latest wild celebrity trial, in an age rich with them. Along with comments about her “goofy AF” lawyer, there were also jokes about Paltrow’s attire on Tuesday, which included an ovrersized, snug-looking white sweater — the very kind one would wear at a Park City ski lodge — and giant ’70s eyewear.

More than one person thought she looked like Jeffrey Dahmer.
