Tyla Had To Quickly Clarify After Her Seemingly Wild Guilty Pleasure Pick

tyla

Tyla became a star in 2023 with her hit single “Water,” and since then, she hasn’t found herself in any sort of real public trouble. She’s doing her best to avoid any misconceptions about her favorite pastimes, too.

During a red-carpet interview at the MTV EMAs (as seen in this video), Tyla was asked for her guilty pleasure, and she responded, “Ooh! My guilty pleasure… Coke.” Then, quickly realizing that her pick could be misinterpreted as drugs instead of soda, she clarified, “Not ‘coke’ coke! Coca-Cola!”

At the EMAs, Tyla won the awards for Best Afrobeats, Best R&B, and Best African Act, and was also nominated for Best New.

Tyla had a big 2024 after it got off to a rough start when she had to cancel tour dates. Her Travis Scott-featuring remix of “Water” got a video, she collaborated with Becky G on “On My Body,” she released her self-titled debut album (followed by a deluxe edition last month), she linked up with Spinall and Omah Lay on “One Call,” and she gave a memorable performance at the 2024 BET Awards. Just last week, she also released a video for “Push 2 Start,” one of the new songs from her deluxe edition of Tyla.

Stephen Curry Was Extremely Fired Up After His Dagger Three Against Klay Thompson And The Mavs

steph-top (1)
TNT

The biggest game of the night in a packed slate of NBA Cup games was the Mavs taking on the Warriors in Klay Thompson’s first game back in San Francisco since leaving as a free agent this summer for Dallas.

It was an emotional scene as they played a terrific tribute video and had the crowd in captains hats to honor their former star, but once the game got going there was plenty of juice on both sides in a reunion that wasn’t all happy. The two teams went back and forth, as the stars on both sides all played their roles, with Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving combining for 52 for the Mavs, while Thompson hit 6 threes on his way to 22 points in his return, including a big one late that gave Dallas a five-point lead midway through the fourth quarter.

That lead would get up to seven before Stephen Curry took over for the Warriors, scoring 12 points in the final 3:10 of game time, including a personal 10-0 run (aided by some spectacular defense from Draymond Green) that turned a Golden State deficit into a 4-point Warriors lead. His final bucket of that run was a vintage stepback three-pointer over Dereck Lively II, as he hit the Mavs big man with his signature “night night” celebration, before making a demonstrative declaration to the crowd that “this is my sh*t.”

The Mavs would hit a three to cut the lead to one, but a pair of Curry free throws and a missed Luka three saw the Warriors win in regulation, 120-117. Curry finished with 37 points in the win, and while it’s clear there’s not actual bad blood between either side in the Splash Bros. breakup, there did seem to be a little extra fire from Curry for a mid-November game to make a statement at home with Klay now on the other side. While the “night night” is nothing new, the jersey popping and yelling “this is my sh*t” was more than we ever see from Curry in a non-playoff environment, and while I am a fan of the NBA Cup and think it brings out more competition in these games, I think this had more to do with who was on the other side than the Cup ramifications of this game.

The Grammys Best New Artist Category Eligibility Has Been Clarified, After Its 2025 Nominees Caused Major Confusion

grammys
Getty Image

Without fail, every year the Grammy Awards cause an uproar across one genre or another. Although fans’ chatter about snub is still at the top of online forum, the 2025 Grammys nomination list sparked another interesting question. What qualifies an artist as “new?”

Yesterday (November 12), the Recording Academy took to its official Instagram page to seemingly clarify the eligibility for the Best New Artist category.

“Every year, the #GRAMMYs Best New Artist category acknowledges rising stars who are shaping the future of music through their own artistry,” read the post (viewable here). “Little does it matter if they have just a few singles or 10 studio albums under their belts. The Best New Artist Category is all about highlighting how an act pushes creative boundaries and challenges a saturated industry with outstanding — and sometimes surprising — music.”

This statement subtly addresses the growing discussion around veteran acts like Khruangbin and Sabrina Carpenter could even found themselves competing against newer stars like Doechii, Raye, Teddy Swims, Benson Boone, and Shaboozey for a coveted gramophone trophy.

Khruangbin’s debut album, The Universe Smiles Upon You, was released nearly a decade ago. The same goes for Sabrina Carpenter’s Eyes Wide Open. But based on the Recording Academy’s post, an artist’s breakthrough is weighed more heavily. Maybe the Recording Academy will reconsider their three submission rule for the category to allow Uproxx cover Tate McRae a chance to compete based on this logic.

Well, the official Best New Artist winner won’t be announced until February 2, 2025, which is bound to cause yet another online teasy.

Shaq Ripped Joel Embiid, Who ‘Will Never Win A Championship Until He Gets His Mind And His Attitude Right’

Shaq
TNT

Joel Embiid took the floor for the Philadelphia 76ers for the first time this season on Tuesday night. Embiid, who has spent the start of the year ramping up to play after some knee problems, looked like someone who needs to work off a ton of rust, as he went for 13 points on 2-for-11 shooting with five assists and three rebounds in a 111-99 loss to the New York Knicks.

It’s probably safe to assume that Embiid will be fine as long as he can manage whatever is up with his knee, while the Sixers — which find themselves 2-8 at this early juncture — have to get him, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey all healthy and clicking as soon as possible. But even if that happens, Shaquille O’Neal is not optimistic about Philly’s ability to win a ring with Embiid at the center of things, which he expressed at halftime on TNT.

“In New York, it’s a tough team to play,” O’Neal said. “But this was the fear I had for Joel Embiid. You announce arrogantly, I’m not playing back-to-backs, Ernie. I’m not injured but I’m sore. I’ll come back when I want to come back. Now, when you say things like that, you’re supposed to come back with extra energy. 0-for-3? I would have been 0-15. But you know what y’all would have said. ‘Hey, Shaq’s not playing well, but he’s playing aggressive.’ The plan that they are having, it’s not working. And not only that, I say this respectfully, Joel Embiid will never win a championship until he gets his mind and his attitude right.”

Shaq has essentially staked out a place in the basketball punditry world as the guy who will call out big men when he feels they aren’t living up to what they’re capable of, and clearly, he thinks Embiid is the kind of guy who can lead Philadelphia to a championship. In fairness to Embiid, while he did say he may not play in back-to-backs going forward in an effort to be healthy when the playoffs roll around, he said after the loss to the Knicks that he wants to play in Wednesday’s game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, even if the decision is out of his hands.

Mariah Carey Thinks It Would Be ‘Cool’ To Collaborate With Olivia Rodrigo, But There Is One Thing Supposedly Holding It Up

Mariah Carey is adorably referred to as the unofficial “Queen of Christmas.” but that isn’t her only professional nickname crowning. The “Always Be My Baby” singer is also known as the “Queen of Pop.”

Instead of sitting away locked in her royal palace (or famed New York City penthouse) reflecting on her past record, Carey is actively expanding her discography with loads of collaborations. During a recent appearance on Buzzfeed‘s The Puppy Interview, Mariah Carey revealed which fellow pop acts she would love to join forces with next.

“I think it could be fun to collaborate with Olivia Rodrigo,” she said.

Over the past several years, Mariah has hit the booth for multiple tracks with Brandy, Muni Long, Ariana Grande, and even Uproxx cover star Latto. So working with Olivia Rodrigo isn’t left field for Mariah.

But the collaboration might have been encouraged by another mastermind, Mariah’s daughter. “[Monroe] is a really big fan, and we went to her concert,” she said. “That was great.”

However, as badly as fans of the two songwriters want this collaboration to happen this is one thing holding it up according to Mariah. Later in the sit-down, Mariah hinted that Olivia is currently on a work break until 2025, saying: “But I know she’s not working for the rest of the year.”

The Lambs and Livies will surely circle back to this wishlist item in the new year.

The Pistons Beat The Heat After Miami Pulled A Chris Webber With A Second Left In OT

jalen rose
Twitter

The second annual Emirates NBA Cup tipped off on Tuesday night, with a number of teams taking the (very vibrant) floor for the league’s relatively new in-season tournament. In the East Group B, the Detroit Pistons played host to the Miami Heat and looked like they were going to cruise to a win before Miami got hot down the stretch of regulation.

With things tied up, the two teams went into overtime, where Miami was able to take a lead with just under two seconds left before things got very, very weird. First, the Pistons drew up a beautiful sideline out of bounds play to get a dunk for Jalen Duren that tied things up. And then, a furious Erik Spoelstra walked onto the court and called a timeout. There was just one problem: Miami didn’t have one, which meant we had a classic Chris Webber situation on our hands — perhaps it was fate that one of Webber’s Fab 5 teammates, Jalen Rose, was in attendance and lost his mind.

Malik Bealey stepped up to the free throw line, buried it to put Detroit ahead, then on the ensuing Pistons possession, got fouled one more time with 0.1 seconds left to seal the game. It was, quite frankly, stunning to watch Spoelstra make such a big mistake, but at the very least, we got a really entertaining end to a game that suddenly has some stakes to it because of the NBA Cup.

Battle of The Stuffing: Stove Top Versus Homemade

When it’s time to make stuffing, whether it’s for Thanksgiving or any other meal, you have a decision to make. Do you make homemade stuffing or go for the shortcut and buy Stove Top? It comes down to the ease of making something right out of a box versus the satisfaction of making the perfect side dish from scratch.

Why Stove Top

Stove Top can usually be purchased by the box or canister, depending on how many servings you need. There are also a few flavors to explore, including classic herb, chicken, and cornbread. All you need is either a saucepan or a microwave as well as a few basic ingredients like water and butter.

The stuffing is done in minutes and is easy to make. You can’t mess it up, which means you can also delegate the task to someone else in the kitchen while you focus on another element of dinner.

Why Homemade

Homemade stuffing gives you the ability to choose each and every ingredient. You can cube the bread of your choosing, dice an array of vegetables, infuse any herbs you wish, and even add in some broth. You can get a rich flavor that is your very own.

When people say that they love the stuffing, you get to take full credit for it, too.

Making the Final Decision

It all comes down to what you have time for and what your skill level is. If you have the time and skill to make homemade, go for it. Otherwise, Stove Top is perfectly acceptable, which is why it’s so popular.

You may also want to look at the nutritional elements. Stove Top may be higher in sodium. You’ll have full control over everything when you make it homemade, which may be better if you have people who are gluten-free or have other dietary requirements.

No matter what you choose, it’s sure to be delicious.

Diddy’s Sexual Assault Allegations Didn’t ‘Taint’ The Police’s ‘Every Breath You Take,’ Says Sting

Diddy is entangled in a mountain of legal woes. The former head of Revolt TV has been accused of sex trafficking, sexual assault, abuse, and more. Since the allegations surfaced many industry insiders have attempted to create distance from him as not to be found guilty (in the public’s eyes) by association.

Yesterday (November 11), Sting did just that when asked about the controversy surrounding Diddy. During an interview with LA Times, Sting shut down the idea that The Police’s hit “Every Breath You Take” has been soiled as a result of Diddy.

When asked if the band’s famed smash, which was sampled by Diddy for the Notorious B.I.G. tribute track “I’ll Be Missing You” featuring Faith Evans and 112, was tainted Sting rejected the notion.

“No,” he said. “I mean, I don’t know what went on [with Diddy]. But it doesn’t taint the song at all for me. It’s still my song.”

The interview argued with Sting’s response, saying: “And people still love to hear it.”

“Absolutely,” chimed Sting.

Given that The Police’s “Every Breathe You Take” was already a chart-topping global smash back in 1983 and has maintained critically praise over the decades, Sting seems to have a point in many supporters eyes.

Cordae Says He Doesn’t ‘Give One F*ck’ About First Week Album Sales Ahead Of ‘The Crossroads’ Release

Cordae’s forthcoming album The Crossroads is due out this Friday, November 15. Before it hits streaming platforms, the “Syrup Sandwiches” rapper wanted to get something off of his chest.

Over on X (formerly Twitter), Cordae let data collecting critics know that he isn’t interested in The Crossroads‘ first week metrics. “Want to say this now I don’t give 1 f*ck about a first week sales,” he wrote. “It’s a very inaccurate way to calculate impact, especially with the current streaming metrics. I seen somebody do 11K first week and then do a ARENA TOUR off the same album. That’s the end of my Ted talk *2nd one.”

This year, there has been a growing trend of artists been shamed for album sales, streaming metrics, and chart placement especially in rap music.

Cordae went on to slam shamers, writing: “N****s said my last project first week numbers wasn’t good, and I ended up doing a sold out headline world tour.”

He then continued by taking a trip down memory lane reflecting on sales and consumer trends over the years. “In the 90/2000s music was consumed by people actually going to the stores and buying albums,” he wrote. “When you did 100K first week that meant 100 thousand people went and bought the CD. Now, you can have 300,000 people Listening to your album on streaming, and the units. Equivalent is 200.”

The Crossroads is due out 11/15 via Atlantic Records. You can find more information here.
