62-year-old rocks the same outfits as her 23-year-old daughter to show that ‘style has no age’

It feels like a safe bet to say that the phrase “fashion influencer on TikTok” instantly conveys an image of a young 20-something posting their latest shopping haul.

But just take it from 62-year-old fashionista Gym Tan—flair belongs to everyone, and it doesn’t have an expiration date.

As she shared in an article for Insider, Tan worked for around three decades in the fashion industry and had a genuine love for it. However, after moving from her home in Hong Kong to what she calls “casual California,” Tan put her career—and her passion—to the side.

Thanks to some encouragement from her 23-year-old daughter, Mya, Tan began posting videos of her “classic, understated” outfits to TikTok. At first, it was nothing more than a fun creative outlet. Little did either of them know that Tan would become an instant viral sensation.

“Within three weeks, I had around 10,000 followers, and last year, I started to pursue content creation full-time, having now built up a following of 140,000 people,” Tan told Insider.

And I mean, what’s not to love? From her effortless glam, to her adorable snap at the end of each video, this woman is a natural icon.

Things really took off after Tan posted a stitch while wearing the same form fitting black dress that a younger influencer wore. That video, which racked up 1.6 million views, also garnered a ton of praise.

Video below…and it’s 125% fabulous, if you ask me.

Inspired to spread the message that “style has no age,” Tan began posting videos with Mya showing off their matching outfits—from bikinis to sexy dresses to sweats and everything in between.

The best part? The response has been overwhelmingly positive.

“Nobody is telling me that I shouldn’t be dressing like that at my age, [it] has felt empowering in so many ways,” she shared, noting that she too had started to “feel insecure” as she approached 50—thanks in part to how societal beauty standards could make women feel “invisible” as they get older.

Social media of course plays its own hand in this collective shortcoming, what with the constant ebb and flow of contrasting beauty trends. (Are we in the thin eyebrow season or the thick eyebrow season? I seriously can’t keep up.) Not to mention the plethora of filters that make a person look so completely sculpted, ageless and otherwise enhanced that they are left feeling devastated to find any signs of life on their real face.

However, Tan credits much of her newfound confidence to the welcome she’s gotten on social media—and on a platform geared towards a younger generation, no less.

“TikTok is thought to be home to Gen Z users primarily, and I was a bit nervous at first about how younger users would treat me on the app. My daughter told me that TikTok loves older people, and I’ve definitely found that to be the case,” Tan recalled.

Though people of all ages stop by Tan’s TikTok to enjoy her styles, her new sense of purpose is inspiring others to abandon the fear of aging.

“I hope to show them that they can continue to gain confidence in themselves and the way they look as they get older, just as I have,” she told Insider.

Masego Is A Journeyman Who Trusts The Music To Guide Him On His Savory Self-Titled Album

The RX is Uproxx Music’s stamp of approval for the best albums, songs, and music stories throughout the year. Inclusion in this category is the highest distinction we can bestow and signals the most important music being released throughout the year. The RX is the music you need, right now.

Masego’s approach to music has always been as smooth as the sweet symphonies that leave the end of his trademark saxophone. His cool demeanor has produced records as out-of-the-box as “Old Age,” as funky as “Girls That Dance,” and as flavorful as “Silver Tongue Devil.” With a smirk and the crack of a smile, Masego can step to the mic and do whatever he wants – successfully at that.

His 2018 debut album Lady Lady was a formal introduction to Masego the person. The 25-year-old singer at the time was full of youth which produced an album that portrayed his witty, flirtatious, and at times, tender-hearted persona. His 2020 project Studying Abroad balanced the highs and lows of love with a tropical backdrop that nearly distracted you from his qualms in romance. Nearly three years after that project’s release, Masego returned with his self-titled sophomore album which is a wonderful blend of the best elements in his discography. With Masego, the “Tadow” singer dances through the unfulfilled aspects of his life while also noting that music will always be the least of his worries.

Masego is the project I’ve always wanted from Masego. Though its 14 tracks have yet to exist in the world for more than a week, the elements that make up its full composition are so strong that when combined, it requires the “magnum opus” title to be bestowed upon it. Give it time and you’ll see that to be true. Studying Abroad is a body of work that resulted from Masego pushing himself out of his comfort zone to learn and experience new blends, tones, and so much more with music. Masego is the result of those learnings when combined with the sturdy foundation that Masego built upon to become the dazzling singer and instrumentalist that we know him to be today. If Lady Lady and Studying Abroad had a missing puzzle piece between them, Masego would be that piece.

This is evident through records like “You Never Visit Me” which combines elements of jazz and funk with the freeing feeling of riding in a convertible on a sunny day with your hands in the air. Its chorus is available for a fun call-and-response moment for an audience because of the changes in Masego’s tone throughout each line. Then there’s “Say You Want Me” which is steered by tropical drums and the same inspiration that blanketed Studying Abroad. It’s flavorful and tantalizing as Masego weaves through elements of afrobeats and dancehall to reel a woman into his bed after she knocked him off his seat. These warm records make up a slim percentage of the whole album, and it’s for that reason that they’re so refreshing and noteworthy when their turn comes on Masego.

Though the music isn’t a concern on Masego, nor is it for Masego himself, there is a bit of grappling that the singer is left to do in other areas of life. The failed reciprocation of love is the overbearing issue for Masego on his sophomore album. “You Play With My Heart” sounds like it’s set at a diner where Masego sits and dwells to no end about a woman who was unserious at best about loving him. Steam from a presumably hot drink floats to his face as he wearily sings about his latest qualms in romance. “You play you with my heart / I lay in the dark,” he croons. “You play with my heart / You were dancin’ with a star.” Moments before, Masego put his wit on display on “Afraid Of Water” for a double entendre that paints a shallow woman with nothing to offer beyond the surface as someone who can’t swim and fears the blue waters. Even when he does find someone suitable for himself, it ends with their departure and Masego’s disappointment as we see on “Down In The Dumps.” Car notes could’ve been paid and trips to Monte Carlo could’ve been taken, yet their premature exit – which has Masego in his feelings – has caused them to miss out on it all.

Right there, another aspect of Masego comes alive. The expectations Masego had for fame are far from reality. “Remembering Sundays” is a weary reflection of the days before the fame when serenity and tranquility were easier to come by. He doesn’t miss it per se, but his current lifestyle has made him more appreciative of it. His quarrels with fame spill into the combative “Who Cares Anyway” for a swing at the so-called tastemakers and critics that have misunderstood and attempted to box in the ever-so-diverse and genre-spanning singer. If you couldn’t tell that Masego is a man of music and nothing more, this record is proof of that. “I mean, yeah, we getting money / Yeah, we getting notoriety,” he quips. “But nowadays y’all looking real, real dumb / I had to say something.” Moments of appreciation for his position aren’t hard to find on Masego. “Sax Fifth Avenue” is a playful pun on “Saks Fifth Avenue” and a salute to his trustee saxophone that has earned him the attention that performing on Saks Fith Avenue could bring. As the album concludes, “In Style” opens the gates for a triumphant and sax-laden ode to the spotlight he currently stands in.

Masego spotlights the musician that is Masego. At nearly 30 years old, the singer is a seasoned journeyman who trusts the music to guide him to his destination. Sure, he’s still working to grasp the elusive concepts of dating and fame, but at least there’s something that can aid him in recognizing and expressing the successes and failures within it. While many use a self-titled project for their official introduction to the music world, Masego waited nearly a decade into his career to do that. There’s probably a good reason for that, but I’d have to guess that it has something to do with this being the perfect encapsulation of everything that makes Masego, Masego. So with every blare of the saxophone, croon of the voice, and witty lyrics, know that Masego has mastered the music, and evidence of that lives within the hypnotizing elements of Masego.

Masego is out now via EQT Recordings/Capitol Records. Find more information here.

‘Stranger Things’ Star Grace Van Dien Says She Is Taking A Break From Acting After Inappropriate Advances From A Movie Producer

After starring as Chrissy, the very meme-able cheerleader on Stranger Things, Grace Van Dien took a bit of a hiatus from acting, which is something a lot of young stars should consider doing.

But the actress, who hosts regular streams on Twitch, has opened up about the reason she has decided to take a step back from Hollywood, which is unfortunately due to some inappropriate sexual advances from an unnamed movie producer.

During a recent stream, Van Dien revealed that she has had her fair share of bad movie-making experiences that have led her to take some time off. “The fact of the matter is the last few projects I’ve worked on I didn’t have the best experiences. One of the last movies I did, one of the producers asked me to…he hired a girl he was sleeping with, then he had her ask me to have a threesome with them. So…like, that’s my boss.” While she didn’t name who the producer was or what movie she was working on, she has at least three in production at the moment.

Van Dien took to Twitter to clarify that she is going to prioritize working with the right people in the future:

This is just one of the many instances of producers being inappropriate on-set with their young actors, but hopefully talking about it will ensure that stars don’t end up in predatory situations when they are supposed to be in a workplace. Finally.

Seth Rogen was asked a question about being childless that men never get. His answer was honest.

Childless women in the public eye are often plagued by the question: “So, why don’t you have any children?” It’s a deeply personal question that cuts right to the bone, and there can be many answers. But, if the woman doesn’t want children and says so publicly, she is bound to face some judgment.

“[I don’t] like [the pressure] that people put on me, on women—that you’ve failed yourself as a female because you haven’t procreated. I don’t think it’s fair,” Jennifer Aniston told Allure. “You may not have a child come out of your vagina, but that doesn’t mean you aren’t mothering—dogs, friends, friends’ children.”

On the Monday, March 6 episode of “The Diary Of A CEO” podcast, host Steven Bartlett asked actor Seth Rogen about why he’s childless, and it was a rare moment where a man in the public eye was challenged on the topic. Rogen gave a thoughtful explanation for his and Lauren Miller’s decision to be child-free.

Rogen and Miller were married in 2011.

“There’s a whole huge thing I’m not doing, which is raising children,” Rogen told Bartlett. The host attempted to play devil’s advocate and asked Rogen if he considered whether having children might have made him and his wife “happier.”

“I don’t think it would,” Rogen responded.

Then, as if anticipating the question, the “Pineapple Express” star upended one of the arguments that people who have children often make: that people who don’t have children have no idea what it’s like.

“I’ve been around obviously a lot of children; I’m not ignorant to what it’s like…Everyone I know has kids. I’m 40, you know? I know,” Rogen said. “Some of my friends have had kids for decades. Some people want kids, some people don’t want kids.”

He added that many people seem to have kids without considering the issue.

“I mean, a lot of people have kids before they even think about it, from what I’ve seen, honestly,” he said. “You just are told, you go through life, you get married, you have kids—it’s what happens.”

Rogen and his wife have only grown stronger in their decision and they believe that it has helped their relationship.

“Now, more than anything, the conversation is like, ‘Honestly, thank God we don’t have children,’” he continued. “We get to do whatever we want.”

“We are in the prime of our lives. We are smarter than we’ve ever been, we understand ourselves more than we ever have, we have the capacity to achieve a level of work and a level of communication and care for one another, and a lifestyle we can live with one another that we’ve never been able to live before. And we can just do that, and we don’t have to raise a child—which the world does not need right now,” Rogen concluded.

Everyone has the right to choose whether or not to have children, and no one has the right to judge them. Rogen and Miller have thought their decision through and should be applauded for living how they see fit. It’s cool to see Rogen with such a thoughtful opinion on the matter. It’d be even cooler if celebrities never had to discuss the topic in the first place.

Rae Sremmurd Announced The Release Date For ‘Sremm4Life’ With Its Stylish New Artwork

Just when it seemed like the wait for Rae Sremmurd’s fourth album was becoming interminable, the sibling act from Tupelo, Mississippi announced the release date for Sremm4Life along with its minimalist album cover on Twitter. The release date will be one month from now, on April 7.

The artwork for the album closely follows the trend established with the first three installments of their Sremmlife albums, with a white background and both brothers mugging for the camera. This time, they’re decked out in stylish outfits, as Slim Jxmmi lies on his back and Swae Lee stands next to him, both throwing up four fingers to mark the milestone.

Fans were, understandably, pretty psyched to see the announcement, as we’ve all been waiting since 2018 for a follow-up to SR3MM, their third album, which consisted of three discs — a group album and a solo album for each brother. Since then, the Brown boys appeared in an episode of Lil Dicky’s FX comedy Dave, Swae Lee became a father while Jxmmi had a couple of run-ins with the law, and they released three new singles to promote the album.

Denial” dropped last June, “Torpedo” came out at the end of the year, and their latest single, “Sucka Or Sum,” arrived in January. The album itself, Sremm4Life, is due 4/7 through EarDrummers / Interscope.

‘Bel-Air’: Here’s All The Music You Heard In Season 2, Episode 3

(WARNING: Spoilers for this week’s Bel-Air episode will be found below.)

For the third episode in season two of Bel-Air, the main cast members find themselves in difficult positions. Last week, we saw Will struggle to shine as a basketball player at Bel-Air Academy without ruffling feathers with his coach and fellow teammates. Carlton is still working on finding new footing at Bel-Air Academy after his social status at the school changed in season one. This is all while he continues to battle anxiety issues. Hilary began her role as manager at the influencer house, but the partnership with Ivy that made it happen isn’t off to the best start. That’s on top of her new relationship with Jazz getting off to a rocky start, which included the surprised and slightly confused reaction from her parents when they heard the news.

In “Compromised,” the third episode of the new season, Will and Carlton pick up where they left off in planning a school protest for Mrs. Hughes who they believe was wrongly fired from Bel-Air Academy. Everyone is in on the protest from Ashley to Hilary to Mr. & Mrs. Banks and Will’s basketball teammates. The planning for the protest gives Carlton a chance to get closer to Yazmin, who is president of the Black Student Union, while also doing something for people that look like him at the school. Plans for the protest get bigger than expected, and soon enough, Carlton is pushed into the spotlight which makes him extremely nervous and triggers his anxiety. Elsewhere, Will’s passion for the protest is on full display which leads to him overlooking some of the other important things around him, and Hilary and Ivy’s business relationship looks like it’s heading straight for a brick wall as the two can’t seem to get on the same page.

The aforementioned events in the third episode of Bel-Air season two, titled “Compromised,” are soundtracked by songs that help to accentuate the emotions behind each scene. You can find a list of them belong as well as details about the scenes that the records soundtracked.

Check out our Bel-Air season 2, episode 3 recap here.

Vodka Gravas & Wordsworth — “We Winnin’”

We hear this song around the 01:05 mark as Will and his teammates leave basketball practice together. One of his teammates, Tyler, makes a slick comment to Will about his ball-hogging ways which Will replies to by mocking him.

Kateel — Different Problems

Around the 02:03 mark, Will and Tyler talk things out ahead of their big game. Will apologized for before selfish and promised to be there for the time when it’s required. Lisa comes up to Will to talk to him.

4VR — “Guilty”

This song plays around the 04:52 mark as Will and Carlton are walking away from a meeting with Mrs. Bassin. Will overheard Mrs. Bassin’s request for Will to “get with the program.” Carlton expresses concerns with Will about the protest, but Will shuts them down and essentially tells him to be strong.

Easy McCoy — “Deja Vu”

At around the 05:56 mark, Easy McCoy’s “Deja Vu” briefly plays as the Bel-Air title flashes on the screen. This record is the theme song for Bel-Air

Magi Merlin — “Walking To The Dep”

We hear Magi Merlin’s record at the 06:05 mark as the Banks family is setting up at the house to welcome students to prepare for the protest. Ashley is a bit upset as she feels it’s her fault that Mrs. Hughes was fired, but Phil, Vivian, and Hilary assure her that she’s not to blame.

Obed Padilla — “Cheap Thrills”

Around the 11:02 mark, we hear this song as Yazmin asks Carlton if he can be the one to give the speech at the protest. Carlton nervously tries to get out of having to do the speech, but he fails, so the big moment is his to come through on.

Ivy States & Janaé E.

Ivy States and Janaé E.’s record checks in around the 20:24 mark as Hilary meets with the Simply Spiked representative at the influencer house. While she thinks the meeting is successful, she’s a bit disappointed to find out that the partnership is contingent on Ivy’s participation.

Sampa The Great — “Time’s Up” Feat. Kwon

We hear this record around the 32:46 mark as Will, Carlton, Yazmin, and other students walk out of their respective classes to begin the walkout. This goes against the agreement the trio had with the administration.

Blackillac & Caught A Ghost — “The Revolution”

The episode ends with this record playing as Will takes a banner from one of the teachers and races to the school roof to drop it for the students to see. The banner reads “Black Teachers Matter” and students begin to chant that phrase as well.

You can stream this week’s episode of Bel-Air on Peacock here.

New episodes of ‘Bel-Air’ are available Peacock on Thursdays at 5:01 am EST/ 2:01 am PST.

James Cameron Almost ‘Clocked’ Harvey Weinstein With An Oscar For Screwing Over Guillermo Del Toro

Before Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the Oscars, James Cameron almost threw down with now-disgraced super-producer Harvey Weinstein in the middle of the 1998 ceremony. Cameron made the revelation during a massive retrospective on Titanic dominating that year’s Academy Awards, which prompted Weinstein to try and sign the director as he was going back to his seat. However, what Weinstein didn’t know is that Cameron was close friends with visionary director Guillermo del Toro who had been jerked around by the infamous Hollywood tyrant.

“He had told me the horrible shit that Miramax pulled on him when he made his first American commercial film, Mimic, and they fired him,” Cameron said. “The actors, led by Mira Sorvino, kind of revolted and wouldn’t work until they brought him back. Then, when the film was successful and well regarded, Harvey sort of jumped up to take praise for the movie.”

According to Cameron, that’s all he knew about Weinstein, which was enough to rebuff the guy right there on the spot. Weinstein, who’s used to getting his own way, did not take it well.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

I’m on my way back to my seat with my editing Oscar, and this guy’s jumping up to introduce himself, saying, “If you want to come to work at a place that’s a friend of the artist, a friend of the filmmaker” — he’s holding his hand out, and I just blew him off. It was just an ugly little moment. But, yeah, I did defend Guillermo and I called Harvey on his bullshit, and then he got very loud and verbally abusive and almost potentially physically violent. And he was about to get clocked by an Oscar — which would’ve been highly appropriate, I think.

Looking back at the moment, Cameron was more fascinated by the crowd’s reaction than the fact that he almost brained Harvey with an Oscars statue.

“The hysterical thing about the whole moment was people around us were saying, ‘Not here! Not here!’” Cameron recalled. “It was kind of like, ‘It’s OK if you boys fight out in the alley, but don’t do it here at the Academy Awards!’”

A Hyper-Specific Taylor Swift College Course At Stanford Will Focus On Just One Song For 10 Weeks

Taylor Swift’s music has been dissected and studied for thousands and thousands of hours at this point, and that includes in academic settings. Just last year, NYU’s Clive Davis Institute offered a course on Swift, and later that year, a course called “The Taylor Swift Songbook” was introduced at the University Of Texas. Now, though, we have perhaps the most granular Swift college class yet, as it’s going to be about just one song: “All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor’s Version).”

Starting this winter, a course called “All Too Well (Ten Week Version)” will be offered at the esteemed Stanford University. Per the Stanford website, the course will be part of the ITALIC 99 program, which offers “students an introduction to topics taught by alumni of the program” and are “student-led classes” that are “focused on hands-on learning.” The Swift course promises an “in-depth analysis” of the song led by instructor Nona Hungate.

The class will be held once a week for ten weeks, for 50 minutes each session. So all in all, students will go over just the one Swift song for a total of 8 hours and 20 minutes.

The ITALIC courses are offered as part of the Stanford Introductory Studies program and are described as “arts-minded, residence-based academic program for first-year students.”

It was a big collegiate year for Swift in 2022, even aside from the aforementioned: last spring, she received an honorary doctorate from NYU and gave a commencement speech.

The Spiritual Successor To ‘Batman: The Animated Series’ Has Been Saved By Amazon (For At Least 2 Seasons)

Despite having everything going for it from being the spiritual successor to the highly-acclaimed Batman: The Animated Series to Matt Reeves’ involvement, Batman: Caped Crusader couldn’t survive the blood-letting that occurred after the Warner Bros. Discovery merger. The animated series was headed for HBO Max, but found itself off to Arkham in August 2022.

However, true to their word, WB Discovery hinted that the show could be picked up by another platform as the company focuses more on licensing its robust library. That is now the case with Caped Crusader, which has been given a two-season order at Amazon.

Via The Hollywood Reporter:

The animated series hails from Bruce Timm, Abrams and Reeves and was sold to a streaming rival as part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s efforts to monetize content by selling projects to third-party buyers. Reps for all parties declined to comment as formal deals have not yet closed.

Batman: Caped Crusader was first announced in May 2021, and is said to harken back to Timm’s 1990s Batman: The Animated Series, which stands as a benchmark for the Dark Knight’s animated storytelling. Comic book scribe Ed Brubaker is among the creative team and ran a writer’s room and serves as Timm’s right hand on the 10-episode first season.

Considering Batman: The Animated Series is often heralded as the pinnacle of Batman-based media, Caped Crusader is sure to find an audience with fans of the classic ’90s series, who hopefully have an Amazon account. In the meantime, it will be interesting to see which other DC Comics projects find homes on other platforms as new DC Studios head James Gunn has recently hinted that Netflix is reportedly eyeing a few properties.

It Sounds Like Disney Might Be Pumping The Brakes On All Those Marvel Sequels

It used to be easy to be a casual Marvel fan. All you had to do was say “my favorite superhero is Iron Man!” or “Black Widow deserved better!” and move on with your day. Now, you have to know exactly which timelines your favorite superhero/alien is in without sounding like you have no idea why there is a giant-headed robot in the middle of this multi-dimensional space movie or who all of these Tom Hiddleston clones are and why they are using CGI goats as weaponry. It’s no wonder everyone is confused all the time.

It seems like Disney is starting to take note, especially after those lackluster Ant-Man reviews (hopefully Paul Rudd doesn’t feel too bad). During a conference this week, Mickey Mouse’s boss Bob Iger said that the company will be shifting gears in the coming years in order to focus on specific characters in a meaningful way. “I think a lot of all of them — they’re all my babies, in a way,” Iger began. “There are 7,000 characters, there are a lot more stories to tell.”

Now that he is a father of 7,000, Iger says that the company will reassess the types of Marvel stories they are telling. “What we have to look at with Marvel is not necessarily the volume of Marvel stories we’re telling, but how many times we go back to the well on certain characters. Sequels typically work well for us. Do you need a third and a fourth, for instance, or is it time to turn to other characters?” Do we? No! Did we get them anyway? Yes. A lot, actually. That’s when things start to fall a little flat.

Iger isn’t the only one who is on board with more streamlined storytelling. Just last month, Marvel boss Kevin Feige admitted that the company would be adjusting the pace of the next batch of MCU shows after fan feedback. Did we really need a Baby Groot series? Probably not, but it happened anyway. Hopefully, they don’t give Baby Yoda his own show, or else the power will go to his head.
