Teyena Taylor Said She Needs Surgery For A Growth On Her Vocal Cords

Teyana Taylor just suffered a big hit to her resurgent music career, just weeks before the release of her new album Escape Room. On Wednesday, the singer told fans via her Instagram that she needed surgery to remove a growth on her vocal cords. The result: several upcoming appearances to promote the album have been canceled or postponed, including a stop by Michelle Obama’s podcast.

“I’ve been quietly dealing with some vocal challenges for a while now,” she wrote. “And after a lot of back and forth with my doctors, I’ve been told I need vocal surgery immediately. “They found a noncancerous growth on one of my cords that’s been messing with my voice and causing real discomfort. Thankfully, we caught it & it’s treatable—but it does mean I need to pause and give myself time to fully heal.”

She continued, “That honestly breaks my heart. I don’t take lightly what it means to show up for y’all. I’ve poured so much of myself into this next chapter—especially the Escape Room, which is still dropping August 22! So no worries there. It’s the most personal body of work I’ve ever created. and the timing… it’s not lost on me. Just as I was getting ready to finally share this with you, life handed me my own unexpected ‘escape room’—one I didn’t ask for, but one I now have to find my way out of with patience, rest, and faith.”

While she won’t be performing the album live anytime soon, the rollout will continue as planned. The most recent single, “Bed Of Roses,” teased the direction the emotive new project will take, and fans look forward to her return.

PinkPantheress Picks Her Dream Collaborator And It’s A Soul Icon

PinkPantheress is getting ready to tour in North America, but before that, she took a moment to make a playlist for Interview.

Alongside that, PinkPantheress also answered a few rapid-fire questions for the publication, including her dream collaborator (Sade), the album that reminds her of her childhood (Panic! At The Disco’s A Fever You Can’t Sweat Out), her favorite use of a sample in a song (Daft Punk’s “Robot Rock”), and the song on her playlist that makes her cry (Duffy’s “Warwick Avenue”).

Meanwhile, in another new interview with Variety, she spoke about her mindset behind performing live, saying:

“I’ve had to basically go against my nature and just jump into things that I know I need to work on. For me it’s more of a confidence thing — like when [her first performance at England’s massive Glastonbury festival] was coming up, my fear was, ‘Well, I can’t do this to a high enough standard, so should I just not do it?’ But it’s gotten better as time has gone on, and I was shocked watching the video back from Glastonbury and realizing how confident I looked, and how nice I looked. I didn’t know if I was gonna be able to get over my fear, and I’m pleased that I did.”

Selena Gomez Explains Why Benny Blanco Was ‘Terrified’ When They Started Dating

Benny Blanco really doesn’t want to tour in support of his and Selena Gomez’s album, but he’s clearly over the moon about his fiancée. At the start, though, he had some apprehension, as Gomez revealed on a new episode of Therapuss.

Gomez said of how she and Blanco first met:

“We met when I was 16 because we were going to possibly work together, but I didn’t start releasing music ’til 17, 18. So we saw each other around. It was nice. And then… I don’t know, I feel like he was just an acquaintance, if that makes sense. And to be honest, [we weren’t] like besties. I just thought he was nice. And then we did a few songs together. […] I just thought he was funny. I was just like, ‘This guy’s so funny.’ But I didn’t think anything of him.”

She went on to discuss how the seeds for their romantic relationship were planted when they reunited to work on the 2023 song “Single Soon,” saying:

“We spoke for two hours and I asked him to hook me up with anybody that he knew that was cute, and he was like, ‘Oh, we do these things, like, dinner nights. You should come.’ And next thing you know, we’re dating. But, he was terrified in the beginning ’cause he was like, ‘It’s work and it’s complicated and people are going to get mad,’ and I’m like, ‘I don’t give a sh*t, kiss me.’”

ASAP Rocky Will Have Two New Songs On The ‘Highest 2 Lowest’ Soundtrack

ASAP Rocky is taking his time releasing his long-awaited album, Don’t Be Dumb, but fans will be getting some new music from him soon all the same. With Rocky appearing in the crime thriller Highest 2 Lowest next weekend, it only makes sense that he’ll appear on two songs from its accompanying soundtrack.

According to Rolling Stone, two all-new ASAP Rocky songs are billed to appear on the film’s soundtrack: “Both Eyes Closed” and “Trunks.” The soundtrack will hit DSPs the same day the movie hits theaters: August 15.

The film is a reimagining of Akira Kurosawa’s 1963 film High And Low (or, perhaps more accurately, Heaven And Hell) directed by Spike Lee. It transplants the drama of a kidnapping from post-war Japan to modern New York City, changing the original film’s shoe magnate into a record company CEO played by Denzel Washington. Rocky will take on the role of the charismatic but unhinged kidnapper.

If it seems like Washington, a Broadway vet, is a bit too distinguished for the role of a rap music exec, Rocky himself refuted the notion during a recent interview. As he told Variety, “Denzel plays more Memphis rap than anybody I know… I was shocked. He’s an OG. You would expect him to listen to Miles Davis all day. Nah, he said, ‘Throw on NLE Choppa,’ [then Washington rapped] ‘I don’t do drive-bys no more, I walk ’em down’ That’s verbatim. I was like, ‘This is gonna be lit. It’s on now.’”

Highest 2 Lowest is out 8/15. Check out its trailer above.

Anderson .Paak Teams Up With Disclosure For Their Slinky ‘No Cap’ Video

Anderson .Paak is quickly becoming just as well known for his versatility as he is for his charming throwback takes on hip-hop, funk, and soul. While he’s currently preparing to go out on tour with NxWorries to promote their latest album, Why, Lawd?, he’s also begun to show some dance music chops with his Coachella DoLab set and a collab with K-pop star G-Dragon, “Too Bad.”

He continues his swing into EDM with Disclosure in the slinky video for their new single, “No Cap.” Featuring a pulsing beat of the sort we’ve all come to expect from the producer duo, the track gives Andy the opportunity to show off some double-time rhymes. Hip-house has hit big in recent years thanks to artists like Channel Tres, Duckwrth, and Leikeli47, and Anderson .Paak proves equally adept at blending uptempo dance music with boastful raps. The video for the song sees the three performing the song in a studio space, with Guy Lawrence tapping out the toe-tapping beat on the drums, while his brother Howard plays lead synth on a keyboard. Anderson himself mans the mic as a disco ball glitters away in the background.

The track’s been in the works for some time, according to its press release. Disclosure says, “Creating something with Andy has been a long time coming! We first met at our show at Forest Hills in NYC back in 2015 and have been fans of his for even longer. The time finally felt right and the right song appeared. He’s one of the most talented musicians we have ever worked with, and we can’t wait for you all to hear this one and perform it live together soon.”

Benny The Butcher Toasts to Buffalo’s Hustle with Rémy Martin

As a native son of Buffalo, Benny The Butcher’s hometown pride runs deep. So, when he partnered with Rémy Martin and Uproxx for a one-night-only show that sold out in just four minutes, the Black Soprano Family MC made sure he used the moment to toast to the city that shaped him — praising its relentless grind and grit while sipping on Rémy Martin V.S.O.P cocktails just as intricate and layered as his street-inspired lyrics.

In the latest episode of Uproxx’s ‘Sound of My City,’ host and spirits expert Frank Dobbins III tapped the legendary artist for a wide-ranging chat that covered everything from his influences to the next iteration of his sound. And the rapper held nothing back.

While sampling two Rémy Martin V.S.O.P signature drinks for the night – a smoky, bittersweet creation dubbed The Butcher’s Blood and a bold, refined Black Soprano Espresso Martini, each a reflection of his story – Benny spoke to the hustle and team mentality both his crew and his city share. Joking that “Buffalo wants smoke with everybody,” the hip-hop mogul doubled down on why people from his hometown are just built different. Shouting out DJ Shay, his Black Soprano Family team, and the mentors and memories that made him, Benny also gave us some surprising ghostwriting deep cuts and dream collab picks fans don’t want to miss.

Check out the full video above, and stay tuned here for more from our stop in Buffalo with Benny The Butcher and Rémy Martin’s ‘Sound Of My City’ summer series.

Bailey Zimmerman Has To Choose His Favorite Rock Classics In ‘Sound Check’

Today’s Sound Check is a first, as rising country star Bailey Zimmerman steps up to the mic to choose between his favorites of the genre. While longtime viewers may have gotten used to rappers like Offset and LaRussell or R&B singers like Blxst and Giveon, Bailey is our first country singer — which means host Jeremy Hecht gets to branch out.

Here’s how it works: Jeremy plays two songs for the guest artist, who has to choose one and explain their choice, giving Jeremy a chance to learn their musical taste. Jeremy then has to guess the artist’s life anthem, the song they’d take to a desert island, which the guest wrote down earlier on a piece of paper. Our production team has also given him a decoy song, and Jeremy has to guess which is correct based on what he’s learned in the previous rounds.

Funnily enough, there are still just enough rap songs to keep Jeremy more or less in his comfort zone — and get Zimmerman out of his. MGK vs Moneybag Yo, Eminem vs BigXThaPlug, and Drake vs J. Cole are among the matchups. Will Jeremy put another hashmark in his W column with the switchup?

Watch Bailey Zimmerman take on the Sound Check challenge above. New episodes of Sound Check drop every Wednesday at noon ET/9 a.m. PT on Uproxx’s YouTube.

ASAP Rocky Charms In The Trailer For ‘If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’ With Rose Byrne & Conan O’Brien

While ASAP Rocky fans impatiently await word on the release of his upcoming album, Don’t Be Dumb, at the very least, they can follow his moves on the big screen thanks to his flourishing acting career. While his matchup with Denzel Washington in Spike Lee’s Kurosawa remake Highest 2 Lowest is right around the corner, the trailer for another film starring Rocky in a pivotal role came out today.

In the trailer for A24’s If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Rose Byrne plays a frazzled single mom forced to move into a motel when her upstairs neighbor’s leaky bathroom falls into her apartment (can you say, “lawsuit?”). Conan O’Brien is her seemingly disengaged therapist, while Rocky plays a fellow motel dweller who invites her back to his room for some late-night… ahhh… viewing.

He’s a pretty charming guy in general, so it seems believable that he’d be able to convince this older woman to make an ill-advised liasion — and he can do scumbag well enough that you believe he’d try. If I had to choose between the two, I’d go with Highest 2 Lowest, but I’m a sucker for pretty much all Kurosawa remakes.

You can watch the If I Had Legs I’d Kick You trailer featuring ASAP Rocky above. The movie is out in October.

Cirque Du Soleil Meets Luxe Jungle Living At This Riviera Maya Retreat Loved By Savvy Travelers

Riviera Maya(1024x450) 2
Merle Cooper/Emily Hart/UPROXX

Savvy travelers have been slipping away to Vidanta Riviera Maya for years — drawn by its jungle-lined paths, peaceful luxury, and a sense of play you don’t always find at polished resorts. Between the lush boutique water park, Jungala Aqua Experience, and JOYÀ — Cirque du Soleil’s only permanent show in Mexico, complete with a multi-course dinner — the experience here goes beyond your typical beach escape.

I was lucky enough to spend a few days at Vidanta and was truly blown away, not just by the luxury, location and service, but the fun and whimsy that you don’t often find at a resort of this size and caliber. Whether I was floating past waterfalls on the lazy river, lounging at an upscale beach club, or getting dressed up for a night of aerial acrobatics and champagne, Vidanta struck a rare balance: relaxed but refined, imaginative but grounded, and a place I can’t wait to return to.

WHY IT’S AWESOME:

Emily Hart

Vidanta Riviera Maya is the ultimate fusion of luxury, culture, and adventure. With pristine beaches, world-class dining, and access to incredible experiences like the Cirque du Soleil Joya show, this resort is the definition of paradise. Perfect for both relaxation and exploration, it’s ideal for families, couples, or solo travelers looking for a truly immersive experience.

With six separate hotels on property, over 15 bars and restaurants, on over 1000 acres of pristine paradise – this property doesn’t feel like your traditional Mexican resort getaway. With luxe touches, celebrity guests, and incredible beaches, this is truly a resort for those in the know.

IN-HOUSE FOOD AND DRINK:

Emily Hart

Dining at Vidanta Riviera Maya is anything but boring. From tacos and margaritas under swaying palms to sushi, steaks, and indulgent in-room dining, there’s something for every craving—and then some. You can snack barefoot at a beach shack, dress up for a night out near the JOYÀ theater, or wander the Salum Market for sunset cocktails and casual bites. With bold flavors, playful vibes, and more variety than you’d expect from one resort, eating here is half the fun.

Here were some of my favorites:

Gong

Emily Hart

Dinner at Gong was hands down my favorite meal at Vidanta Riviera Maya. The space is sleek and serene, with warm wood accents, glowing lanterns, and an atmosphere that feels both elevated and inviting. The menu blends flavors from across Asia, and every dish I tried—from the fresh, delicate sushi to the rich, flavorful filet—was perfectly executed. I sipped a beautifully balanced cocktail while soaking in the calm, almost transportive vibe of the restaurant. It felt like stepping into another world for the evening—refined, peaceful, and completely memorable. If you’re only splurging on one dinner while you’re here, make it this one.

La Cantina

Emily Hart

La Cantina at Vidanta Riviera Maya, set within the vibrant Salum Market and Beachside Eateries, brings classic Mexican comfort food to life in a modern yet deeply rooted setting. The colorful ceramic tiles and polished wood details create an inviting atmosphere that honors tradition without feeling dated. I savored fresh, creamy guacamole, a tasing menu of Mexican favorites, alongside expertly made margaritas—simple but elevated flavors that lingered long after the last sip. It’s the kind of place that feels like a celebration of Mexico’s rich culinary soul, making it one of my favorite spots on the property.

Quinto

Emily Hart

Breakfast at Quinto was the kind of buffet that makes you want to try everything—twice. Set in a beautiful two-story space with sweeping ocean views, it offered an almost overwhelming spread: tropical fruit, fresh pastries, chilaquiles, waffles, smoked salmon, made-to-order omelets, and more. I filled my plate, grabbed a cappuccino, and settled in by the window to watch the light shift over the water. The setting felt polished but relaxed, and the sheer variety made it easy to linger. It was one of those vacation breakfasts you actually remember.

Emily Hart

I stayed in a One-Bedroom Suite at the Jungala Park Hotel which was not just larger than my apartment back home, but the epitome of jungle-chic. With a large bedroom with private balcony, huge bathroom, kitchen, dining room, guest bath, large living area and another spacious balcony running the length of the suite — this was one of my favorite hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in.

Turndown Service – Nightly service with fresh linens and evening treats.

BEST THINGS TO DO/EAT/DRINK WITHIN A 10-MINUTE WALK/SHUTTLE RIDE:

Jungala Aqua Experience

Emily Hart

Jungala Aqua Experience isn’t your average water park. With more adult touches, like cocktails, muted stylish colors, and gourmet food options, it is a must-visit for thrill-seekers or those who just want to spend a day in a lazy river with a drink. With water slides, the aforementioned lazy river (my favorite), and plenty of places to relax (pro tip: book a private cabana), it’s the perfect place to cool off and have fun.

Beach Club

Emily Hart

Spending an afternoon at the Vidanta Beach Club is the ultimate way to unwind in style. With beautiful pools, private cabanas, and direct beach access with stunning ocean views, it feels like your own little slice of paradise. The service is next-level attentive without being over the top—they make you feel like the only guest that matters. I loved sipping expertly made cocktails, especially the Aperol Spritz from the roaming cart that adds a fun, festive vibe. The fresh, flavorful food pairs perfectly with the ocean breeze. This exclusive spot is available to Grand Luxxe and Grand Bliss guests, making it a must for those seeking chill luxury.

BEST THING TO DO WITHIN A 20 MIN SHUTTLE RIDE:

JOYA Cirque de Soleil

Emily Hart

Seeing the JOYÀ dinner show at Vidanta Riviera Maya was one of the most exciting nights I’ve had in a long time. It’s Mexico’s first Cirque du Soleil resident dinner show—and the only permanent Cirque du Soleil show in the country until Ludo, a new water-themed production, debuts in November 2025 at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta. The theater’s cozy, immersive setting makes you feel like you’re part of the story from the moment the lights go down. The acrobatics and performances are absolutely breathtaking—full of energy, creativity, and moments that seriously wowed me.

The dinner was just as impressive as the show. The menu itself is part of the experience—with edible menus, dishes infused with smoke, and even a treasure box course that feels like uncovering a delicious secret. The plating is playful and full of surprises (but I don’t want to give away too much!). The flavors were spot-on, perfectly balanced, and paired seamlessly with the pacing of the show. It was a total sensory experience—great food, amazing entertainment, and a vibe that kept me smiling all night. Definitely a must if you’re visiting Vidanta.

BED GAME: 9/10

Emily Hart

The beds are ultra-comfortable with plush mattresses and high-quality linens that make sinking in after a day of exploring pure bliss. I loved opening the balcony doors to let in the fresh air and listen to the gentle sound of passing rain — it was the perfect way to unwind and fall asleep peacefully.

SEXINESS RATING: 9/10

Emily Hart

Vidanta’s modern design, chic atmosphere, and incredible service create a stylish and romantic vibe. Whether it’s a sunset dinner by the beach or a spa treatment, there’s no shortage of moments to make you feel like you’re in a luxurious, sexy escape.

VIEWS/PIC SPOTS:

Emily Hart

Vidanta Riviera Maya is packed with seriously Insta-worthy spots. Whether it’s the lush jungle paths, colorful gardens, or the sparkling pools, every corner feels like a photo op waiting to happen. The beach views of the turquoise Caribbean? Total postcard vibes. And the Salum Market area is full of bright, fun details that pop on camera. Honestly, whether you’re snapping sunrise from your balcony or chasing golden hour by the water, your feed is gonna thank you.

BEST SEASON TO VISIT:

Emily Hart

The best time to visit Riviera Maya is between November and April when the weather is warm and dry. This is the ideal time to enjoy the beach, the pools, and the outdoor activities without worrying about the humidity or rain that often hits in the summer months. Shoulder seasons will likely have less crowds, and I’d even recommend rainy season as rain on the jungle-like grounds is very cozy and often doesn’t last too long.

IF I HAD TO COMPLAIN ABOUT ONE THING:

The resort is enormous – which for most people is a plus – but it could feel a bit overwhelming for some travelers. It’s massive, and while the layout is stunning, getting from one area to another sometimes requires a bit of walking—or waiting for a shuttle. This could be a minor inconvenience if you’d rather have less movement during your stay.
