The Kansas City Chiefs’ Coach Didn’t Let Players Watch Rihanna’s Halftime Performance

Sure, it’s a lot of pressure to play in the Super Bowl, but imagine doing so in front of Rihanna. The players were obviously excited to have her on the field, so much so that Brandon Marshall pranked Patrick Mahomes into thinking the “Umbrella” singer called him the greatest quarterback ever. “Whatever Rihanna says is like the gospels,” Mahomes replied earnestly. “So I’m glad that she went with me for that honor.”

Unfortunately, Mahomes explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live! that the Chiefs players weren’t allowed by their coach to watch Rihanna’s halftime performance. “Coach Reid told us, he said, ‘If you go out to watch the performance, just keep walking because you’re not playing the rest of the game,’” he said.

That’s a shame considering how hard Rihanna worked on her iconic performance. In an interview with Apple Music, she revealed that she changed the setlist a whopping 39 times while picking which of her hits to cram into 13 minutes.

She also explained why it was so important to her: “The Super Bowl is one of the biggest stages in the world, so as scary as that was because I haven’t been on stage in seven years, there’s something exhilarating about the challenge of it all. It’s important for me to do this year. It’s important for representation. It’s important for my son to see that.”

‘Deadpool 3’ Will Star ‘The Crown’s Emma Corrin, Reportedly As A Villain Against Hugh Jackman And Ryan Reynolds

Deadpool 3 has reportedly found its villain. The sequel, which will officially bring the fan-favorite Ryan Reynolds character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (and team him up with a multiversal variant of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine) is set to start filming later this year, and the cast just got a heck of a lot more prestigious.

The Crown‘s Emma Corrin is reportedly locked in as the movie’s villain. In true Marvel style, Corrin’s character has not yet been revealed. According to Deadline, the studio had their eyes on the actor for a while and schedules finally fell into place. The trade reports that Corrin is now “fully on board,” but “details behind the character are unknown at this time other than it being the villain role.” Here’s more:

Corrin is best known for the role of Lady Diana Spencer in Season 4 of the Netflix world-wide, award winning hit series The Crown. The role earned Corrin a Golden Globe and Critics Choice award for Best Actress, as well a SAG and Emmy nomination in the same category. Even though they would not appear in the most recent season, Corrin was still hard to miss in 2023 with their Amazon drama My Policeman premiering at this years Toronto Film Festival as well as the Netflix and Sony co-production of Lady Chatterley’s Lover.

Ryan Reynolds also confirmed the news on Twitter and slipped in a sly joke to the recent birth of his fourth child with wife Blake Lively.

“New addition to the family!” Reynolds tweeted. “The Deadpool family, for clarity. Which is just like a real family except with less swearing… Welcome, Emma Corrin!”

Interestingly, Corrin isn’t the first Princess Di from The Crown to appear in the MCU. Elizabeth Debicki starred in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 as Ayesha and will reportedly reprise her role in the third film later this year.

Will ‘Ted Lasso’ End After Season 3?

Apple TV+ released a Ted Lasso teaser today that put the AFC Richmond team into arts-and-crafts mode to let the title character know that they “still believe.” The show will return on March 15, a week ahead of Showtime’s Yellowjackets and HBO’s Succession, so we’ve got counter programming all over the place in the coming month. And that’s more than alright.

Actually and now that I think about it, both Succession and Ted Lasso will return in the wake of a betrayal, and of course, one can expect these shows to tackle their respective aftermaths in different ways. Will we, however, see a fourth season beyond the third round, which will contain a dozen episodes and arrive in weekly Wednesday installments? That’s all up in the air at the moment.

In fact, Jason Sudeikis and Apple TV+ have been staying mum on the situation, and while the star was backstage at last fall’s Emmys ceremony, Jason made clear that even though the buck keeps getting passed to him, he’s really not sure what the future holds. In the below Variety clip, Jason (who won the Lead Actor – Comedy Series trophy) stood in front of the show’s ensemble cast and producers (after winning Outstanding Comedy Series) and made clear that he didn’t have the Season 4 answer that people wanted: “I don’t know. It’s up to more factors than myself.”

That sentiment has stayed intact. In other words, if anyone knows that Season 4 is on the way, no one is telling yet. As soon as that word (yes or no) drops, the TV world will be all over the news. In the meantime, here’s to hoping that people drop the backlash tendencies and simply let viewers enjoy a nice show.

Ted Lasso will return on March 15 with Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Anthony Head, Juno Temple, Hanna Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, and more. Oh, and Jason Sudeikis.

Playboi Carti Was Arrested For Allegedly Choking His Pregnant Girlfriend Over A Paternity Test

Social media users are looking to ensure Playboi Carti isn’t feeling the love this Valentine’s Day. While the rapper, whose real name is Jordan Carter, has his eye set on headlining a few major international music festivals, such as Wireless Fest in London and Rolling Loud Portugal, these performances might not happen because of his latest arrest.

According to TMZ, Carti was arrested for felony aggravated assault back in December in Fulton County, Georgia, for allegedly grabbing his rumored pregnant girlfriend by the throat and pushing her. Around the same time, the rapper quietly stepped away from social media, which prompted fans to speculate that new music was on the way. However, his departure from the public could possibly have been directly tied to the incident.

The outlet also reported that the incident began as an argument over a paternity test. During the identified woman’s statement to the police, she said she feared for her life during the attack as Carti allegedly held her neck until she could barely breathe. The alleged victim, a witness to the matter, did intervene to try and break up the fight and help her escape his grasp. But Carti then attacked her again as she attempted to flee to her vehicle. However, once Carti caught up to her, the rapper attempted to pull her out of the vehicle and put his hand over her mouth as she tried to use the car’s SOS feature to call the police.

Carti has not yet issued a statement regarding the matter, but his lawyer, Brian Steel, did provide one on his behalf to Complex. In an email, Steel wrote, “Mr. Carter was falsely accused. Pursuant to my communications with the Fulton County District Attorney‘s Office, this case will be dismissed without any prosecution or litigation.”

Elsewhere, Chiiild released “Antidote,” Janelle Monae shared the release date for her next single “Float,” and last and certainly not least, Beyoncé became the winningest artist in Grammy history.

Here are some more releases on the new music front that you should check out:

Kelela — Raven

At long last, Kelela’s comeback is finally complete. The singer released her sophomore album Raven which she describes as a “deep-dive into facets of dance music that have always excited me” and her “first breath taken in the dark, an affirmation of black femme perspective in the midst of systemic erasure and the sound of our vulnerability turned to power.”

Masego — “Two Sides”

It’s almost too obvious that Masego has a project on the way, being that the singer will head out on tour in a couple of months. We’ll have to wait for the official announcement if it’s true, but until then, you can enjoy his latest single “Two Sides.” On it, Masego tips his cap to the Geminis in the world while also singing about the fun and enticing sides of love.

Eric Bellinger — 1(800)Hit-Eazy: Line 2

It only took a couple of years, but Eric Bellinger and Hitmaka reconnected for 1(800)Hit-Eazy: Line 2, the follow-up to their debut joint project 1(800)Hit-Eazy. Through 14 songs, Bellinger and Hitmaka call on Fabolous, Cordae, Kalan.FrFr, Blxst, Tink, and Muni Long for bass-thumping records that touch on romance and nightlife fun.

Roy Woods — “Don’t Love Me”

This year may be the year that Roy Woods returns with a new project. It’s been three years since his last project, Dem Times, but it now seems like he’s getting ready for a new full-length effort. Ayra Starr — “Sability”

The queen of Mavins, aka Ayra Starr, is back with a new chune. “Sability” touches down as an uptempo, dance-ready track that will surely give you another reason to love the afrobeats singer. Her stock should keep rising if her future releases are anything like her stellar 19 & Dangerous album.

Ryan Destiny — “Lie Like That”

Ryan Destiny flashed her potential as a singer back in 2020 with the release of records like “The Same” and “Do You,” but up until the end of 2022, we didn’t hear much else from her. That streak ended with “How Many” in December and she starts a new one with the release of “Lie Like That.” On it, she questions a lover’s inability to be truthful while boasting about her ability to give it straight and unfiltered.

Iyla — Appetite For Disaster

Three years after Other Ways To Vent, singer Iyla is back with her latest project, Appetite For Disaster. Through seven songs and features from Symba and Benny The Butcher, Iyla guides listeners through her “quest for the ‘impossible’ and my unwillingness to settle.” She adds that the project’s “title evokes what the last two years have felt like for me both professionally and personally.”

Col3trane — “Simp”

With his upcoming EP Chekhov’s Gun out this spring, Col3trane offers the latest taste from the project with “Simp.” The upbeat track sees Col3trane commit to the simp lifestyle: loving your partner out loud and expressing this desire openly to them.

Ebony Riley — Ebony

Ebony Riley may be a new name to most, but her face is quite familiar. Formerly known as Riley Montana, the Detroit-born singer is stepping to the mic with her new EP Ebony. Fresh off a deal with Interscope, Riley crafted the “deeply personal” project with the goal of bringing listeners on a journey towards understanding her and her artistry.

Jahkoy — “Loving Game”

Caroline Polachek Is Joined By Grimes And Dido On The Sprawling ‘Fly To You’

Caroline Polachek’s new album Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is out today. “One, it can be read as being about the ‘you,’” she explained about the title. “We all know that feeling of falling in love, of wanting to obsessively learn from and become that person. But on the other hand, maybe desire is the thing you want to turn into itself.”

The album dives headfirst into those themes of love and obsession, especially on “Fly To You,” a techno-inspired collaboration with Grimes and Dido. “How I remember, how I forget / Wanted to hate you but love you instead / Violence made me gentle at last,” Grimes sings, opening the track. The three singers trade off verses, making for a sprawling exploration of complicated romance.

Earlier this year, Grimes said music is just a “side quest” in her life at the moment. “I’ll always release music but if it hasn’t been clear ; music is my side quest now,” the eccentric artist explained in a Twitter thread. “Tbh reduced pressure x increased freedom = prob more music just ideally ‘Low key. I’ll always do my best to entertain whilst depleting my literal reputation I hope that’s ok I love y’all.”

Listen to “Fly To You” above.

Desire, I Want To Turn Into You is out now via Perpetual Novice. Get it here.
