‘The Last Of Us’ Cast And Crew Wasn’t Allowed To Say The Z-Word On Set

It’s a common complaint about TV shows about zombies: why does no one say the word “zombie”? On The Walking Dead, “walker” is used as a stand-in for munchers, while “infected” is the preferred term on The Last of Us. The HBO series even went so far as to effectively ban the z-word from being uttered on set.

“We weren’t allowed to say the z-word on set. It was like a banned word. They were the infected,” cinematographer Eben Bolter told The Credits. “We weren’t a zombie show. Of course, there’s tension building and jump scares but the show’s really about our characters; the infected are an obstacle they have to deal with.” Joel and Ellie are more scared of someone stealing their Chef Boyardee than the infected, as they should be.

The Last of Us should have used a swear jar to cut down on z-word mishaps, except instead of paying a dollar every time someone cursed, the cast and crew would have to watch Negan’s Walking Dead debut if they said “zombie.” The punishment fits the crime.

Bolter also discussed the popularity of The Last of Us show:

“Back in 2013, I remember telling everybody I saw, ‘You have to try this game,’ but there were many people I knew who were never going to pick up a controller. It’s almost like, ‘There’s this amazing book I read, but you can’t read the language it’s written in so you’re never gonna know.’ What’s been great about this series is that now, I don’t have to pitch people anymore: ‘Trust me, it’s not just zombies.’ My parents, for example, I can just tell them: ‘Watch the show.’ And now they see what I saw when I first played the game, which is a beautiful thing.”

Linda Ronstadt exists in the universe of The Last of Us. I wonder if Shaun of the Dead does, too?

Fat Joe Explains Why Jay-Z Is The Greatest Rapper Of All Time, As Indicated By A Controversial Recent List

In December, Fat Joe said his unreleased collaboration with Jay-Z would never see the light because of the NFL. “He had just signed that big deal with that NFL, so he wanted to let it go,” he said. “He gave it to me… But I guess his people were like, ‘Yo bro, you just did a deal with them. How are you going to go in like that?’” It was a big loss for Fat Joe, who often sings Jay-Z’s praises.

He’s hyping Jay-Z up again after the “Empire State Of Mind” rapper topped Billboard and Vibe‘s much-discussed recent list of the greatest rappers.

“The one I agree with — and this is not being political — is they put Jay-Z first. Now why do I say Jay-Z first and I agree?” He began in a video. He explains that there are “certain rappers” who “have flows like nobody else.” “But when they got older in age […] it don’t sound current with 2023,” he said. He went on to say that Jay-Z remains relevant in the times.

Last year, Fat Joe also flattered Jay-Z by saying he had the “hardest lyric in hip-hop” with this line from ‘Feelin’ It”: “If every n**** in your clique is rich, then your clique is rugged / Nobody will fall ’cause everyone will be each other’s crutches.” “Everybody wanna be the man,” Fate Joe said. “Everybody wanna be the guy everybody looks up to. There’s no real strength in that. The strength is in everybody eating — so that if one of us falls, we can lift him up. You have to understand that mentality.”

The ‘John Wick’ Director Wasn’t Messing Around When He Said Part 4 Would Be The Longest Yet

Making good on director Chad Stahelski‘s promise that John Wick: Chapter 4 will be the longest installment yet, Collider has confirmed that the highly anticipated Keanu Reeves film clocks in at a whopping 2 hours and 49 minutes. Is John Wick fighting Thanos in this thing? (No, seriously, we’re asking and will not mind if the answer is yes.)

Via Collider:

As revealed last summer, John Wick: Chapter 4 will see the titular John Wick take on his most lethal adversaries yet. With the price on his head ever-increasing, Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Osaka to Berlin. The last handful of images from the film have certainly leaned into the globe-trotting nature of the fourth film, with Wick fighting in frosty locations and at iconic Parisian sites.

On top of being the longest John Wick movie to date, Keanu Reeves recently revealed that the film was the most physically demanding shoot of his entire career. That’s a pretty high bar to clear considering Reeves spent years filming the original Matrix trilogy, which required intense amounts of wire stunts and gravity-defying fight scenes.

John Wick: Chapter 4 has the most action of any of the [John Wick] films, which is saying a lot,” Reeves told Total Film. “And it’s more by a good margin. It’s a big show… John Wick: Chapter 4 was the hardest physical role I’ve ever had in my career so far. They really trained me up to be able to have what we call the toolbox.”

John Wick: Chapter 4 hits theaters on March 24, 2023.

Drake’s Lawyers Think His Mandatory Deposition In XXXTentacion’s Murder Trial Is ‘Unreasonable’

Days after Drake was subpoenaed by a Florida judge in XXXTentacion’s murder trial to sit for a deposition or appear in court if he does not comply, the Canadian rapper’s legal team is firing back at the thought process.

“It is both unreasonable and oppressive to subpoena an out-of-state party who has not been mentioned in any reports, any investigation, or referenced to have any involvement in this matter,” Drake’s attorney Bradford M. Cohen wrote in response, according to Billboard. “To mandate that he appear for deposition for something that he very clearly has no relevant knowledge of is unreasonable.”

Four men — Dedrick Williams, Trayvon Newsome, Michael Boatwright, and Robert Allen — are currently charged with the murder. However, Williams’ lawyer, Mauricio Padilla, included Drake on his witness list back in December. Prior to XXXTentacion’s death, he had also posted on Instagram in 2018, “If anyone tries to kill me it was @champagnepapi,” tagging Drake directly before eventually deleting the Story.

Drake was originally scheduled to sit for a deposition back in January, but didn’t show up. Because of this, he’s since been required to appear by February 24 or will be held in “contempt of court,” according to the publication.

His team has since claimed that Drake was not only improperly subpoenaed, but that the legal move also seems like an attention-grab.

“It would appear, based on the names mentioned on the witness list filed by defendant’s counsel, that the intent to subpoena [Drake] is less for the purpose of discovering relevant evidence and testimony, but instead add more layers of celebrity and notoriety to a tragic and unfortunate event,” his lawyers added.

Padilla did not respond to Billboard‘s request for comment about Drake’s response to his deposition filing.

Jimmy Kimmel Found The One Thing That Trump Liked About Rihanna’s ‘Worst Halftime Show In Super Bowl History’

If Donald Trump had his way, the Super Bowl halftime show would Kid Rock covering “Y.M.C.A.” every year. Unfortunately for him, the NFL went in a different direction on Sunday with Rihanna, who performed an aerial set of her biggest hits (while pregnant!), which, naturally, Trump called “the single worst Halftime Show in Super Bowl history.” The ex-president then attacked Rihanna for supposedly “insulting far more than half of our Nation, which is already in serious DECLINE, with her foul and insulting language.”

In the post, Trump accused the singer of using “foul and insulting” language, possibly in reference to the 2020 incident in which Rihanna was seen posing in front of a spray-painted art installation. The centerpiece of the installation was a car that had the words “Fuck Trump” painted on it.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! host Jimmy Kimmel couldn’t help but point out Trump’s hypocrisy during his monologue on Monday. “That’s right, Captain Pussy Grabber was offended by the language,” he said. “Is it possible that Trump is the bitch that owes her that money?” Kimmel joked that the only part of Rihanna’s halftime show — which was watched by over 118 million viewers — that Trump liked was “all the dancers wearing white hoods.”

‘Ted Lasso’ And Friends Still Believe (And Have A Release Date) In The Season 3 Teaser From Apple TV+

Ted Lasso heard all about the backlash upon backlash to Season 2, and the show, including the kind-of real-life Ted Lasso, Jason Sudeikis, is here with a message: “I still believe.” Not only that, but the eternally positive AFC Richmond coach may have heard that several of your favorite TV shows and movies (including Yellowjackets, Succession, and the John Wick franchise) are coming back on the same weekend in March. So, he’s coming back earlier than those other guys (and ladies) will do.

With all of that said, the somewhat dark (for this show) Season 2 finale saw Nate going the way of the Joker (as our own Brian Grubb pointed out). The depths of his betrayal might leave him beyond redemption. We’ll find out eventually if that’s the case, but obviously, the artsing-and-craftsing of these believers are going down without mention of him in this teaser. Season 3 will contain a dozen episodes (the show’s moving to Wednesday releases, still weekly). From the synopsis:

[T]he newly-promoted AFC Richmond faces ridicule as media predictions widely peg them as last in the Premier League and Nate, now hailed as the “wonder kid,” has gone to work for Rupert (Anthony Head) at West Ham United. In the wake of Nate’s contentious departure from Richmond, Roy Kent steps up as assistant coach, alongside Beard. Meanwhile, while Ted deals with pressures at work, he continues to wrestle with his own personal issues back home, Rebecca is focused on defeating Rupert and Keeley navigates being the boss of her own PR agency. Things seem to be falling apart both on and off the pitch, but Team Lasso is set to give it their best shot anyway.

Naturally, one can expect to see Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Anthony Head, Juno Temple, Hanna Waddingham, Nick Mohammed, and more in lockstep with Jason Sudeikis. Ted Lasso will return on March 15.

North West Made A Pretty Great Drawing Of Ice Spice And The Rapper Adores It

North West has two talented parents: Kanye West, despite his recent controversies, is a highly esteemed rapper and producer, while Kim Kardashian has shown herself to be excellent at building her brand and business empire. North is proving to be a high achiever as well, as the nine-year-old is already a skilled artist.

In a video shared on North and Kardashian’s shared TikTok account yesterday (February 13), North showed that she’s an admirer of hip-hop up-and-comer Ice Spice by drawing a portrait of her, in a video scored by PinkPantheress and Ice’s “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2.” The pencil drawing, modeled off a photo of Ice, came out looking pretty great, especially considering the age of the artist.

After the video made the rounds, a TMZ cameraperson asked Ice if she had seen the clip and she responded, “I did, it was so cute. Thank you, North!” She added, “She’s so talented.”

Meanwhile, things continue to look great for Ice. A couple weeks ago, she landed her first song on the Billboard Hot 100 chart when her and Lil Tjay’s “Gangsta Boo” debuted at No. 82. Then, just yesterday, “Boy’s A Liar Pt. 2” debuted at No. 14 on the Hot 100, making the track PinkPantheress’s first charting song.
