Saints DT Khalen Saunders Made An Incredible One-Handed INT And Returned It 36 Yards

saunders int top
ESPN

Late in the third quarter on Monday night in Kansas City, the Chiefs were marching deep in the red zone looking to put a dagger in the New Orleans Saints. Leading 16-7, Patrick Mahomes threw a slant to JuJu Smith-Schuster that would’ve put them up 16 — a near insurmountable lead given how the Saints offense had been playing.

However, Smith-Schuster was unable to handle the pass and it popped up in the air, where Saints defensive tackle Khalen Saunders reached out and snagged it with one hand in the end zone. Most tackles would fall down for a touchback, content with coming up with a huge turnover, but Saunders had dreams of so much more and returned it all the way out to the 37 on an incredible run back.

That is a large man scooting, showing off all kinds of athleticism in hauling in the pick with one hand and then tucking it like a natural running back and taking off. My favorite part is him pushing one of his defensive back teammates out of the way because he was slowing him down and keeping him from really opening it up.

What made the play even more incredible was it came directly after ESPN ran a video package about Saunders and Travis Kelce, because Saunders’ brother is a dancer on Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour — which is why Joe Buck exclaimed “and there he is!” when Saunders got the ball. Saunders earned his trip to the oxygen tank on the Saints sideline with that play, and got to show off that he’s more than just a big body on the interior of the line.

Andy Reid Confirmed Travis Kelce’s 3rd And 22 Lateral Play Was By Design

kelce-top
ESPN

The Kansas City Chiefs entered Monday night’s game with the New Orleans Saints missing some key players on offense, most notably Rashee Rice who is likely done for the season after his knee got injured when he took friendly fire from Patrick Mahomes after an interception last week.

That meant the Chiefs would need to find someone else to lean on in the passing game, as Rice was their leading receiver (by a lot) through the first four weeks of the season. Unsurprisingly, the person that stepped into that role was Travis Kelce, who had eight catches for 67 yards in the first half, as he’s gotten himself much more involved the last two weeks after a surprisingly quiet start to the season.

The biggest play by Kelce in the first half came on a 3rd and 22, as the Chiefs picked up 21 of those yards when Mahomes hit Kelce across the middle and the star tight end just drifted sideways across the field to draw defenders before lateraling it to Samaje Perine, who ran close to the marker.

The Chiefs would pick up the 4th and 1 on the ground before ultimately kicking a field goal later in the drive, but given Kelce’s history of laterals, both planned and impromptu, many (including Joe Buck and Troy Aikman in the booth) were wondering if that was a designed play or some improvisation from Kelce when he saw Perine over there. At halftime, the great Lisa Salters made sure to get that answer from Andy Reid, who confirmed they work on that “every day” in practice, but will not divulge the play’s name.

Given they once won a Super Bowl scoring two touchdowns on a play called “Corn Dog,” I hope this has an equally silly name, but we won’t learn that until at least the offseason. For his part, Kelce has long been determined to make the lateral more of a regular occurrence, rather than a tool of desperation. Last year, his lateraling Mona Lisa — a TD to Kadarius Toney that would’ve beaten the Bills — got wiped out because Toney lined up offsides, but this time around he got it to work and I doubt this will be the last time we see Kelce pitching the ball mid-play this season.

Riot Fest 2024 was filled with noteworthy performances by Fall Out Boy, St. Vincent, Slayer, and more. However, one family’s memory of the multiple day event (September 20-22) is quite somber.

On October 4, organizers of Riot Fest confirmed that a ticket holder tragically died after attending the musical celebration in a post on X (formerly Twitter). According to Chicago Sun Times, 58-year-old Stephen Shult passed due to substantial head trauma. Now, Shult’s daughter Jen Eaton has launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise fund for a “Cremation And Celebration Of Life services.”

Rumors online alleged that Shult was injured in the most pit during Slayer’s headlining set on Sunday, September 22. However, a spokesperson for Riot Fest shut down the claim. “Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly challenging time,” wrote the rep. “The health, safety, and well-being of our fans and community have always been our top priority. We are aware of the various speculations surrounding this tragedy, including claims that it may be linked to the Slayer crowd. However, we want to clarify that this is not the case. The on-site medical team responded to this medical incident, near the Ferris Wheel area, prior to Slayer’s performance. Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing further details.”

On the GoFundMe webpage, Shult’s daughter did confirm within the fundraiser’s description that officials are “still investigating” that matter. Shult’s family is looking to raise $8,000. As of today (October 7), they are a few hundred away from that goal (currently raised $7,149).

Does ‘Strange Darling’ Have A Streaming Date Yet?

strange-darling-lg
Magenta Light Studios

Reacher isn’t technically an anthologized series but does (mostly) swap out casts with each passing season as the Big Guy lives his vagabond life. Viewers probably wouldn’t be mad, however, to see a certain first-season character, Roscoe Conklin, again. Willa Fitzgerald portrayed the fan-favorite spitfire and has since stolen the show in Mike Flanagan’s The Fall Of The House Of Usher and recently did the same in Strange Darling from Magenta Light Studios.

The twisty horror film, which shares producers from Late Night With The Devil and Barbarian, is best digested without even watching a trailer and with only knowing that Fitzgerald portrays a character known as The Lady with Kyle Gallner (Smile) stepping in as The Demon. Also, this brief description from Magenta Light Studios can’t hurt: “Nothing is what it seems when a twisted one-night stand spirals into a serial killer’s vicious murder spree.” The film is currently available on VOD and Amazon Prime for rental, but does Strange Darling have a streaming date yet?

Sadly, nope. The J.T. Mollner-directed film enjoyed a brief theatrical run with stellar critic reviews contributing to enduring positive word of mouth, but those who want to watch the movie as part of a streaming service package will have to hang tight for further word. In the meantime, however, Fitzgerald can be seen (of course) on Prime Video/Amazon in Reacher. Hint hint.

When Does Mike Flanagan’s Adaptation Of Stephen King’s ‘The Life Of Chuck’ Come Out In Theaters?

Stephen King
Getty Image

Mike Flanagan and Stephen King go together like the most horrific peanut butter and (probably grape) jelly imaginable. The former has adapted multiple works (Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep) written by the latter and wants to make The Dark Tower happen, too. Soon, however, he will be fully diving into The Exorcist reboot, but before that became a greenlit thing, Flanagan finished filming an adaptation of King’s The Life Of Chuck, which is based upon a King novella from his If It Bleeds collection.

The project stars Tom Hiddleston as Charles “Chuck” Krantz, and the cast includes Flanagan regulars Mark Hamill and Kate Siegel with David Dastmalchian, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, Jacob Tremblay, Mia Sara, Matthew Lillard, and Heather Langenkamp also co-starring.

The Life Of Chuck links three separate stories, in reverse, to first reveal the main character’s death from a brain tumor and then scroll backward toward his earlier years growing up in a seemingly haunted house. This is also not a typical Stephen King story and aligns more tonally with Stand By Me and The Shawshank Redemption than The Shining or any of the dozens of other King film and TV adaptations. When can you watch the movie?

Following the film’s debut at TIFF, Deadline has reported that The Life Of Chuck was scooped up by Neon for distribution in theaters. Thus far, the indie house has only revealed that this life-affirming flick will surface in Summer 2025 for your popcorn-crunching satisfaction.

Fingers crossed for more precise details soon, though, because Flanagan has called this “a tenacious little miracle of a movie from the start & I’m forever indebted to this wonderful cast and crew. This film is deeply special to me, and I’m elated that it’s going to exist in the world.”

Every Crumbl Cookie This Week (Oct. 7-12), Ranked — Our Top Pick Is A Must Eat

crumbl_blue_yellow(1024x450)
Uproxx/Crumbl

Happy Monday and welcome to the Crumbl Cookie Report. We hope you like soft cookies because four of the six cookies dropping this week are soft chews. I won’t lie, that doesn’t excite me. I won’t sit here and tell you I straight up don’t like soft cookies, a cookie is a cookie right? But who doesn’t love a little crunch and texture with their cookie? If I wanted something soft and sweet, I’d just eat cake.

Anyway, minor soft cookie rant over, let’s talk about the cookies. This week Crumbl is feeling the autumnal vibes so expect maple, cinnamon spices, and apple-forward flavors. This is the first week since I’ve been regularly covering Crumbl that the brand hasn’t dropped an Oreo-infused cookie — a change that we welcome!

I often feel like Crumbl relies too heavily on Oreo, and it can make the weekly cookie drops feel like they are short on variety. Luckily for us, that’s not the case this time around, so hopefully the lack of an Oreo cookie makes the brand’s inevitable return feel a bit more exciting. Enough talk, let’s dive into this week’s cookie ranking.

6. Maple Cream Sandwich

Dane Rivera

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

The Maple Cream Sandwich really has nothing going for it. Visually, it’s bland, flavorwise, it’s unimaginative. I love maple, but this cookie falls flat for me. Between two soft, lightly vanilla-flavored shortbread cookies sits a smear of maple-flavored cream cheese frosting.

Even though maple is supposed to be the star of the show here, it’s a secondary note. What you’ll mostly taste is white sugar with a light maple finish. Skip this one.

The Bottom Line:

Bland city. Even if you’re a hardcore maplehead, this cookie will come across as boring.

5. Pumpkin Chocolate Chip

Dane Rivera

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

This one has the makings of a great cookie — it’s heavily seasoned with a mix of pumpkin spice, very cinnamon and clove forward which is well complemented by semi-sweet chocolate chips.

Where it falls short is the texture of the cookie. It’s fluffy and soft. I think if this cookie had a bit more crunch it would be significantly more enjoyable.

The Bottom Line:

If you like soft-cake like cookies, you’ll like this. If you’re less into the soft chew, the admittedly delicious flavor isn’t enough to warrant a buy here.

4. Milk Chocolate Chip

Dane Rivera

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

The milk chocolate chip hits the Crumbl menu bi-weekly. I prefer the Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chunk, but this is a very good, no-frills chocolate chip cookie. Use your Crumbl in-app points to add this to your order.

The Bottom Line:

A classic. If you like milk chocolate, buttery, and brown sugar, this cookie won’t disappoint.

3. Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie

Dane Rivera

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

This is hands down my favorite peanut butter cookie from Crumbl. Every ingredient is in perfect balance here — the cookie features a semi-sweet cocoa-heavy base with a nutty and earthy smooth peanut butter topping with a drizzle of chocolate and crushed peanut butter cups for some added texture and flavor.

It’s a soft chew cookie, but I think it uses that texture well, helping each bute of the cookie come across as decadent and rich.

The Bottom Line:

Imagine an elevated Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup and you’ve got a good idea of what this cookie tastes like. If you love peanut butter, this is a must-buy.

2. Tres Leches Cake

Dane Rivera

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

I’ve been waiting for this one to return to the Crumbl menu for some time, and it does not disappoint! The Tresh Leches Cake consists of a fluffy, sweet, and delicately floral vanilla cake moistened with tres leches and topped with a sweet and airy whipped cream. The top is dusted with some cinnamon which is purely decorative, unfortunately.

I’d love to taste a bit more of the cinnamon but that’s a very small gripe toward an otherwise amazing cake loaf.

The Bottom Line:

If you haven’t tried Crumbl’s Tres Leches Cake, remedy that immediately. It’s one of the brand’s best drops, even though it didn’t take the top spot this time around.

1. Caramel Apple

Dane Rivera

Thoughts & Tasting Notes:

Maybe it’s the time of the season, or maybe it’s just because this isn’t a soft-chew cookie, but the Caramel Apple is our pick of the week. This cookie features a cinnamon base topped with cream cheese frosting, caramel drizzle, a dusting of streusel and crispy sour Granny Smith apples.

The apples provide a nice tart counterbalance to the subtle spice of the cinnamon, while the streusel adds a textural element that softens the crisp texture of the apple. Crumbl suggests you eat this cookie warm and I can confirm it tastes best in this state, though it’s also delicious once its cooled to room temperature too. You can’t go wrong here.

The Bottom Line:

Call me crazy, but I think this is even better than a slice of warm apple pie. The Caramel Apple is a must-buy and one of the best seasonally-themed flavors Crumbl has ever dropped.
