Colin Farrell Being A Gentleman And Escorting Jennifer Coolidge Up To The Golden Globes Stage Won Lots Of Hearts

Colin Farrell is doing pretty good for himself these days. He had a great 2022, and not just because of The Banshees of Inisherin. And not just because he got to play the Penguin. And not just because of After Yang and Thirteen Lives. He’s been doing great press in between Hoovering up awards. He added another trophy to the pile at this year’s Golden Globes, where he kicked off his acceptance speech by telling presenter Ana de Armas how great she was in Blonde. Later he was gregarious/chivalrous once more, this time escorting Jennifer Coolidge to the stage to accept her award.

Coolidge won yet again for her turn in The White Lotus, where she twice played Tanya, the wealthy hot mess who keeps trying to salvage bad vacations. She’s already delivered a memorably shambolic speech while presenting earlier in the night, which included her talking about her anxiety about walking out on stage. Maybe Farrell remembered that bit when she won because he pushed someone out of the way to walk her up.

She seemed pretty bowled over, too.

The two chatted on the way up there, though it’s not clear what they said. She seemed to either be annoyed or jokingly annoyed at the end, but since no one could get mad at Colin Farrell, it was probably a bit.

The moment did not go unnoticed on Twitter dot com.

Then there was Farrell being kind to de Armas when winning his own prize.

So it seems like Farrell had a pretty good night on top of all his other good news.

Jennifer Coolidge Made ‘White Lotus’ Creator Mike White Break Down Into Tears With Her Alternately Heartfelt And Hilarious Golden Globes Acceptance Speech

The White Lotus star Jennifer Coolidge’s delightful acceptance speech for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2022 Emmys was interrupted by the play-off music. She handled it like a pro, but pop culture’s proudest MILF finally got the chance to finish her speech during the 2023 Golden Globes.

“The hook came out at the last thing I got an award at, this giant hook… I thought it left when vaudeville ended, but this hook came out and took me off the stage at the Emmys,” Coolidge said. “And I didn’t get to say what I really wanted to say, which is, I didn’t get to say: Mike White.” The White Lotus creator was in tears through the speech.

Coolidge also joked about — spoiler alert — her character on the HBO limited series being killed off. “Mike White, you have given me hope for… you have given me a beginning, even if this is the end, because you did kill me off,” she said. “But it doesn’t matter, because even if this is the end, you have changed my life in a million different ways. My neighbors are speaking to me, things like that.”

You can watch Coolidge’s acceptance speech below.

Jimmy Butler And The Miami Heat Set An NBA Record For Free Throws Without A Miss

The Miami Heat defeating the Oklahoma City Thunder in a January regular season game isn’t exactly earth-shattering, but Tuesday’s matchup between the clubs had plenty of fireworks. In the first half, Heat center Dewayne Dedmon was ejected after launching a massage gun onto the court during live action. Then, the two teams engaged in a back-and-forth battle down the stretch, ultimately culminating with a Jimmy Butler three-point play to give Miami a 112-111 victory at home.

Beyond the individual brilliance of Butler, who scored 35 points to lead all scorers, Miami managed to win the game despite just 39 percent shooting. The biggest reason the Heat were able to overcome that poor marksmanship was unprecedented volume and accuracy at the free throw line, as Miami set a new NBA record by making 40 free throws without a miss.

Butler was the biggest contributor, going 23-of-23, and six of the eight players that appeared for Miami made at least two free throws. Due to the one-point final margin, the Heat also needed each and every one of the attempts at the charity stripe to go in, and it was fitting that Butler’s eventual game-winner came at the line. It certainly wasn’t the prettiest or most dominant effort from Miami, but it’s helpful for a team’s efficiency to never miss free throws.

Leah Remini Was Here For Jerrod Carmichael’s Savage Swing At Scientology During The Golden Globes: ‘WHERE IS SHELLEY????’

Golden Globes host Jerrod Carmichael did not hold back with well-timed jabs during awards ceremony, and even Ricky Gervais might be somewhere marveling at the greatness. The comedian began with the elephant in the expensively dressed room. He then took on “The Gays” who tried to do Tanya (Jennifer Coolidge) dirty on The White Lotus, and although Michelle Yeoh got a nice one in on the (poor) piano player, Jerrod came back from a commercial break with snark for Scientology.

“Backstage, I found these three Golden Globe awards that Tom Cruise returned,” Carmichael offered while fumbling with the statuettes, which may or may not have actually been the awards that Tom did return out of protest against the Hollywood Foreign Press Association’s various controversies. “I think maybe we take these three things and exchange them for the safe return of Shelly Miscavige.”

Variety tweeted video of this moment. It’s a rather shocking joke for Carmichael to tell, in that room, given that numerous Hollywood players have been part of the Scientology organization, which has been accused of human rights violations over the decades.

Shelly Miscavige happens to be the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige, and she hasn’t been seen in public for at least fifteen years. And Leah Remini, former 2nd-generation Scientologist and ongoing critic of Scientology, snapped to attention. People began tweeting at her, and she had an oft-repeated question: “WHERE IS SHELLY????’

Carmichael pointedly deciding not to let Tom off the hook (for his ongoing, couch-jumping endorsement of Scientology) was a bold move. When Top Gun: Maverick co-stars Glen Powell and Jay Ellis appeared onstage to present, man, that must have been really awkward for them — because it was a downright savage joke from Carmichael.

Metro Boomin Seemingly Confirms That His Coachella Set Will Be Loaded With Guests

Metro Boomin had a great ending to his 2022 with the long-awaited release of Heroes & Villains in December. The LP, which is his third No. 1, is packed with features from artists like John Legend, Future, Chris Brown, Don Toliver, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Young Nudy, Young Thug, and many more.

So it’s expected that the rapper will bring out friends during his Coachella performance. He seemed to confirm it today on Twitter. First he wrote “Grateful for this opportunity to bring my vision and ideas to the big stage at @coachella this year. I promise you that the same level of effort that I put into my music is going into this performance. Going to give you a real experience. Real legacy defining moment otw🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥.” Then, he added: “Metro and friends 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫.”

It Did Not Go Well For The Golden Globes Piano Player Who Tried To Play Off Michelle Yeoh During Her Acceptance Speech

Awards shows always run way, way too long, which is why they boast a very important job: the musicians who play winners offstage if they ramble too long. They’ll play off anyone. They’ll even play off Jennifer Coolidge. But at this first Golden Globes since their temporary semi-hiatus, the piano player tasked with nudging people off stage messed with the wrong person.

At the Globes, Michelle Yeoh won a well-deserved trophy for Best Actress for a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy, for last year’s crossover sci-fi action hit Everything Everywhere All at Once. It was her first ever Golden Globe. She wasn’t even nominated for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, to say nothing of Yes, Madam. She really milked the occasion, launching into a beautiful monologue about sticking with her craft for four decades and not letting Hollywood treat her like crap.

She eventually reached her speech’s emotional peak: getting Everything Everywhere All at Once, which allowed her to scratch her dramatic, comedic, and action itches all at once, and become an awards season frontrunner. And it was at this exact moment that the piano player tried to play her off.

As gentle as the piano player tried to play, Yeoh wasn’t having it. “Shut up, please,” she snapped, albeit politely. “I can beat you up, okay? I’m that serious.”

Indeed, Yeoh is one of the great legends of martial arts cinema. As nice a person as she is, she is not to be trifled with. The moment was an instant hit.

Some, however, felt bad for the piano player, who was only doing her job.

Lesson is, don’t mess with the woman who isn’t afraid to tease Jackie Chan.

SG Lewis Teams Up With Charlotte Day Wilson And Channel Tres For The Infectious ‘Fever Dreamer’

SG Lewis is known for constant collaboration. The musician and producer is back today, teaming up with Charlotte Day Wilson and Channel Tres for their new song “Fever Dreamer,” which comes from the UK-native’s forthcoming second studio album, AudioLust & HigherLove.

“‘Fever Dreamer’ is the last taste of AudioLust & HigherLove before its release in 17 days, and a song about all-consuming admiration for someone,” SG said about the song. He added, “I’ve been a fan of Charlotte’s music for ages now, and have wanted to work on something forever. We met up at my studio in LA, and ‘Fever Dreamer’ was the first idea we started work on. Channel and I work out of the same studios in LA a lot, and he was working in the room above around the time of the Charlotte session. One day he popped his head into the studio, heard the demo of ‘Fever Dreamer,’ and immediately started working on the missing second verse.”

It’s a jittery, atmospheric track designed for the club. It pulsates, ready to be danced to, and the vocals are glimmering over the infectious beat, only getting better as it goes on.

Listen to “Fever Dreamer” above.

AudioLust & HigherLove arrives January 27 via Astralwerks. Pre-order it here.

You don’t have to take a class to learn CPR. Learn the basics with this 2-minute video.

When 24-year-old Damar Hamlin collapsed on the football field after a tackle on live television, millions of people were concerned. As the Buffalo Bills’ quick-thinking assistant trainer began to perform CPR, many feared they had witnessed his death.

Thankfully, CPR began immediately, which likely saved Hamlin’s life and may have prevented long-term damage from lack of oxygen to the brain and other vital organs. CPR saves lives. According to the American Heart Association, receiving CPR immediately in an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest event doubles or triples a person’s chance of survival.

The key is acting fast when a person shows signs of cardiac arrest, and the key to acting fast is to know what you’re doing. That’s why everyone should know how to perform CPR.

There are classes you can take to learn CPR and other first aid skills, but in the era of the internet, it’s not necessary to take a whole class to get a handle on the basics. While it’s certainly nice to have a CPR “Annie” mannequin to practice on, that’s also not necessary—you can practice CPR on pillows right at home. You can even make your own CPR mannequin at home using a T-shirt, a two-liter bottle, some rubber bands and some stuffing.

CPR isn’t all that complicated and it doesn’t take very long to learn. If you’ve never learned CPR or you need a refresher, there are plenty of videos out there to learn from. However, many of them include a lot of superfluous fluff. Cincinnati Children’s Hospital has a very clear, no-nonsense video that shows you how to perform CPR on an adult in less than two minutes.

(Note: This video is for CPR on people ages 12 and older. Cincinnati Children’s has similar videos for infant CPR and for CPR for children ages 1 to 12.)

One tip shared by the American Heart Association is to think of the beat to the Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive” to get the right speed and rhythm while doing CPR. May seem silly and punny, but it’s easy to remember.

Also, the reason the person in the video points and says, “You! Call 911!” is because yelling out “Someone call 911!” isn’t as effective as telling a specific person to do it. Everyone thinks somebody else will call, so assigning a person is wise.

If you’re curious about why and how CPR works, this video offers a cool 3D illustration of exactly what’s happening when you do compressions. It also shows what happens if you don’t pump hard or fast enough, if you do it too fast or if you don’t allow the heart to refill between pumps. Visualizing what’s happening inside might help you remember CPR specifics, since the goal is to get blood to pump from the heart to the brain.

It’s well worth the few minutes to familiarize yourself with how to perform CPR and do some pillow practice at home. With the availability of AEDs (automated external defibrillators) it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with how to use an AED as well. These machines generally have voice commands that tell you what to do as soon as you turn it on, but always good to know what to expect beforehand.

Most of us hope we’ll never be in a situation where someone’s life is in our hands, but if it does happen, we definitely want to be prepared.
