Lizzo’s New Documentary, ‘Love, Lizzo,’ Is Coming Soon: ‘Finally Telling My Story, My Way’

Today, Lizzo is one of music’s brightest stars. Even though that hasn’t been true for very long — with her commercial breakthrough being 2019’s “Juice” — she’s been a professional in the music industry for over a decade now. All of that is to say that she has quite the story to tell and now, she’s going to: Today, she announced a new documentary: Love, Lizzo.

The film is set to premiere on HBO Max on November 24. Beyond that, not much else is known about the documentary. Lizzo shared a poster for the film and it features the aforementioned information, a photo of her smiling with her eyes closed, and the tagline “Truth Heals,” a nod to her No. 1 single “Truth Hurts.” Lizzo also captioned her post, “Finally telling my story, MY WAY.”

Lizzo has added a number of documentary-worthy happenings to her life story recently. Last month, she got to play a 200-year-old flute once owned by former US president James Madison in concert. She also performed an emotional hometown concert in Detroit not long ago, a special moment that left her with a feeling she said was “indescribable.”

Lizzo is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Brendan Fraser Has A Theory For Why Tom Cruise’s ‘The Mummy’ Was A Box Office Dud

The only things anyone remembers about 2017’s The Mummy are the sound effects-free trailer and how it destroyed the Dark Universe. R.I.P. the Dark Universe. That’s not a great legacy. It was hubristic of star Tom Cruise and director Alex Kurtzman to think that they could top 1999’s The Mummy, a perfect movie (it says so right here).

In an interview with Variety, Brendan Fraser, who starred in the good The Mummy, offered his explanation for why the bad The Mummy was a critical and commercial failure. “It is hard to make that movie,” he said. “The ingredient that we had going for our Mummy, which I didn’t see in that film, was fun. That was what was lacking in that incarnation. It was too much of a straight-ahead horror movie. The Mummy should be a thrill ride, but not terrifying and scary.” Fraser’s The Mummy is a theme park attraction (that’s a compliment, not a derogatory term); Cruise’s The Mummy was a chore.

As for whether Fraser would return for a fourth Mummy movie, The Whale star said, “I don’t know how it would work. But I’d be open to it if someone came up with the right conceit.” The Rock might be interested.

Herschel Walker Told A Truly Baffling Anecdote About A Horny Bull… Who Impregnated Three Cows… And Eating Grass… And Please Make It Stop

A lot of people are demanding to hear Herschel Walker directly address the claims that he persuaded a woman to have abortions and sent her a $700 check in get-well card to reimburse her for the procedure. But that might very well be a case of “Be careful what you wish for.” Because if you’ve listened to Herschel try to explain, well, anything—including how many U.S. states there are (he says 52)—things are bound to only get more confusing.

On Tuesday, the senatorial candidate and former pro football player concluded a campaign speech in Georgia with what Mediaite’s Michael Luciano described as “a janky parable about how the United States is the best country in the world — using a randy bull to get there.” Here’s what Walker said:

As they’ve been saying, “Something is better somewhere else.” And I’m here to tell you it’s not. So, I’ve been telling this little story about this bull out in the field with six cows, and three of them are pregnant. So you know he got something goin’ on. But all he cared about, is keep his nose against the fence looking at three other cows that didn’t belong to him. Now all he had to do is eat grass. But no, no, no. He thought something was better somewhere else.

So he decided, “I want to get over there.” So one day he measured that fence up, and he said, “I think I can jump this.” So that day came where he got back. And as he got back and as he took off running, he dove over that fence and his belly got cut up onto the bottom. But as he made it onto the other side, he shook it off and got so excited about it. And he ran to the top of that hill, but when he got up there he realized they were bulls, too.

So what I’m telling you: Don’t think something is better somewhere else. This is the greatest country in the world today.

Could Walker just have thrown in a trite-but-effective (and much less long-winded) “the grass is always greener”? Sure. But that’s not Herschel’s style.

Of course, it didn’t help the negative headlines swirling around Walker that the way he chose to share that he is a patriot who loves America, and wants you to love it, too, is by talking about a horny bull. At the same time, we wouldn’t expect any less from the Georgia candidate.

A Devastating New Ad Blasting ‘Puppy Killer’ Dr. Oz For, Well, Killing Puppies, Feels Like It Could Be A Nail In His Campaign’s Coffin

The general public recently discovered that, on top of being a TV wellness/weight loss quack and a man who drinks red wine at tailgate parties, Dr. Mehmet Oz is apparently also a puppy killer. And sure, exposés by Jezebel and whistleblower testimony detailing how Oz’s team left dead puppies in garbage bags with their living littermates are horrifying to read, but sometimes seeing is believing.

That’s what a Democratic super PAC known as Senate Majority PAC is counting on after running ads that detail Oz’s many counts of animal abuse while putting a face to the poor creatures he is accused of having taken part in killing. And look, “murder” is a heavy word but when you’re talking about testing on animals and allowing them to suffer in pain for days before euthanizing them, it fits.

The ad features footage of incredibly sad-looking dogs in barren cages while Oz walks around in a white lab coat and a narrator details the many experiments he oversaw on animals during his time at the Columbia University Institute of Comparative Medicine. One particularly heartbreaking ad follows a day in the life of a Beagle puppy with no name and only an assigned number.

“She wasn’t given a name, only a number: 6313,” the voiceover begins. “For 29 days she suffered in Mehmet Oz’s lab. Leaking blood. Not eating. Struggling to breathe. Until Oz took her for the last experiment.”

This dog is just one of 300 reportedly killed in Oz’s lab — along with hundreds more rabbits, mice, pigs, and calves — and the ads the PAC is running make the case that these violations of Animal Welfare laws make the New Jersey resident running for a Pennsylvania Senate seat unfit to hold office.

Everything To Know About The 1975’s ‘Being Funny In Foreign Language’ Album

The 1975 are just days away from the release of their anticipated fifth studio album, Being Funny In A Foreign Language. Throughout the past month of their early promotional cycle for the album, there’s been everything from live videos, tour dates, upcoming interviews, and potential (but probably not serious) threats on journalists who don’t give the record five stars. In fact, there’s been so much, with even more planned from the band on the way, that we’re using this piece to provide a how-to guide on everything to know about BFIAFL before (and after, depending) it drops.

While early singles “All I Need To Hear” and “I’m In Love With You” provide a romantic side to the band, they still plan on keeping a bit of that edge for the remaining songs.

“There are so many good dick jokes on the record,” lead singer Matty Healy told Pitchfork in August. “It’s all about my dick. I’m obsessed with my dick for some reason. I’m trying to figure out what that represents. I think it’s because there’s such potency to the idea of the dick, and so much fragility in modern masculinity, and my masculinity. I’m obsessed with that duality, of just, like, having a dick.”

Healy also claimed he played both Taylor Swift and comedian Bo Burnham the entire album. “It’s so funny,” Swift told the publication. Although this sparked potential collaboration rumors between the two, no such thing is in the works — according to Healy’s BBC Radio 1 appearance.

Throughout this winter, The 1975 will tour North America in support of BFIAFL. Find the band’s upcoming tour dates here.

Being Funny In A Foreign Language is out 10/14 via Dirty Hit. Pre-order it here.

Indie Mixtape 20: Enumclaw Are Looking To Change The Game

The Pacific Northwest was a hotbed for breakout rock bands in the ’90s and early aughts. Nirvana is the obvious first pick, but there was also Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Foo Fighters, Sleater-Kinney… the list truly goes on. Since that time period, the number of exciting rock bands hailing from the area has dwindled, in part thanks to Big Tech taking over cities like Seattle. But now, there’s a new buzzy band resurrecting the gritty sound the PNW earned a reputation for: Enumclaw.

Though Enumclaw hail from the birthplace of grunge music, their upcoming debut album Save The Baby (out Friday) is peppered with a range of influences from melodic Brit pop — Enumclaw once called themselves “the best band since Oasis” — to driving pop punk and experimental art-rock acts like Yves Tumor. Celebrating the release of their debut album, Enumclaw lead singer Aramis Johnson sits down with Uproxx to talk Tyler The Creator, bad tattoos, and sleeping in a Walmart parking lot in our latest Q&A.

What are four words you would use to describe your music?

Guitar, drums, bass, Aramis

It’s 2050 and the world hasn’t ended and people are still listening to your music. How would you like it to be remembered?

As part of a really sick era, like, “Aw when this sh*t came out they changed the game.”

What’s your favorite city in the world to perform?

Probably NYC, the whole “oh sh*t I’m in New York” thing hasn’t gotten old yet.

Who’s the person who has most inspired your work, and why?

Probably my mom. No success really matters ’till I buy moms a crib.

Where did you eat the best meal of your life?

Roscoe’s House of Chicken ‘N Waffles.

What album do you know every word to?

Discovery by Daft Punk.

What was the best concert you’ve ever attended?

So far, Tyler The Creator at Climate Pledge Arena is my number one. I for sure cried.

What is the best outfit for performing and why?

Being an outfitted person I can’t say there’s one perfect fit for shows. There’s so many levels to what your fit can be doing for you on stage, like you could be in some big denim, a pair of vans, and a white tee jumping around all comfy and that gets the job done but you’re just gonna be blending in with the other band dudes. I’d say the best on stage fits are practical but have some sort of wow factor.

Who’s your favorite person to follow on Twitter and/or Instagram?

I just watch hood videos on Twitter so whoever be posting those.

What’s your most frequently played song in the van on tour?

We got a couple but the most cooked song in the van is “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy.

What’s the last thing you Googled?

“Mitsubishi eclipse” and I have no clue why.

What album makes for the perfect gift?

I feel like if someone gifted me Yeezus on CD I’d be really happy so I’m gonna go with that.

Where’s the weirdest place you’ve ever crashed while on tour?

It wasn’t that weird but for sure the wackest place we crashed was a Walmart parking lot deep in Ohio. We didn’t know how to pack the van yet either so I specifically remember sleeping with a hi-hat stand in my back.

What’s the story behind your first or favorite tattoo?

It’s pretty short, the home girl D tatted Badtz-Maru on my leg in my brother Xay’s basement room. It honestly looks kinda bad now but I feel like if you’ve never got a bad tattoo you’re not really getting the full experience.

What artists keep you from flipping the channel on the radio?

On the off chance I listen to the radio I put on the dance music station, they don’t be saying their names sooo whoever’s got the nice chords stays on.

What’s the nicest thing anyone has ever done for you?

I can’t really pick just one, my whole family has been blessing me up since birth.

What’s one piece of advice you’d go back in time to give to your 18-year-old self?

Skate vans half cabs.

What’s the last show you went to?

Yves Tumor.

What movie can you not resist watching when it’s on TV?

I’ve probably watched the first Robocop like 5 times just on TV.

What’s one of your hidden talents?

I know how to ride a unicycle.

Save The Baby is out 10/14 via Luminelle Recordings. Pre-order it here.

Clarence Thomas Revealed His Secret Prince Fandom In The Middle Of SCOTUS Hearing (As One Does)

A landmark Supreme Court case had an interesting aside on Wednesday as Clarence Thomas marked the occasion by revealing his love of Prince. The hearing revolved around a photographer who’s suing Andy Warhol’s estate over licensing fees for a photo of the “Purple Rain” singer. Despite the consequential nature of the copyright case, Thomas couldn’t resist sharing that he was a huge fan of the legendary musician “in the ’80s.”

The moment led to a humorous exchange with fellow Justice Elana Kagan. Via Deadline:

“No longer?” interrupted Justice Elena Kagan.

The chambers erupted in laughter.

“Well,” Thomas said, as he himself chuckled, before pausing and adding, “Only on Thursday night.”

“Mmm hmmm,” Kagan replied.

According to Deadline, the case was loaded with pop culture references as lawyers for the photographer argued over what truly constitutes “fair use.” At issue is whether Warhol had the right to use a photo of Prince without permission, and it appears the courts have been divided. A district court originally sided with Warhol’s estate, but an appeals court did not. The estate then took the case to the Supreme Court where Clarence Thomas got to gush about his Prince fandom. More importantly, it could have far-reaching impacts on copyright laws.

“If petitioners’ test prevails, copyrights will be at the mercy of copycats,” the photographer’s attorney argued before the court. “Anyone could turn Darth Vader into a hero or spin-off All in the Family into the Jeffersons without paying the creators a dime.”

For the record, there’s no mention of Clarence Thomas also shouting out that he loves Star Wars, too, but maybe he said it quietly. Who knows?

Elon Musk’s New Perfume Sounds Absolutely Disgusting But He Claims (?) That It’s Flying Off Shelves

Back in the old days (before 2010), when you thought of the word “musk,” you would likely be reminded of a woodsy perfume that might be sold at a Macy’s department store counter. But when most people hear the word musk now, they think of Elon Musk. And that’s a horrible evolution of linguistics, but it is what it is.

Musk seems to know this, and he wanted to get in on the joke by entering the perfume business. Only he decided that his first offering would be a scent titled Burnt Hair (!?) that goes for $100 a pop. In terms of perfume, that’s actually not too bad! The bad part is that people allegedly bought a lot of it.

Burnt Hair went on sale yesterday, with very appealing notes of singed hair, probably (there is no actual description, just a link to spend $100). The bottles are expected to be shipped out in early 2023 (if they exist). The website boasts that you will “stand out in a crowd!” and “get noticed while walking through an airport!” which sounds like a nightmare, but maybe that’s Musk’s dream since he loves crowds so much.

The billionaire/wannabe fragrance tycoon announced on Twitter that he had sold $1 million worth of his singed hair scent. Of course, he has no way to prove this (yet) but he sure is having fun with the concept. He also described the scent as an “omnigender product,” but that could mean anything to him, a person who does not believe in pronouns.

As of right now, the link to purchase Burnt Hair from the billionaire is still up if you feel inclined to spend. Or you can just use a hair straightener from CVS on damp hair and reach the same effect.

Beloved Colombian Singer Andrés Cuervo Is Dead At 40 Years Old

Colombian singer Andrés Cuervo died last week at age 40. Billboard revealed the news of his passing yesterday (October 11).

Cuervo’s publicity agency JAQUE released a statement to Billboard saying the singer died on October 9 from a heart attack. Cuervo was in his apartment in Paris when he passed. Last month, Cuervo attended New York Fashion Week where he walked down a runway for designer H.cubel. In his last Instagram post, he posted photos from the fashion show.

“Closing the runway and representing Colombia with great pride,” Cuervo wrote in Spanish in the caption.

Cuervo was born in Barranquilla, Colombia (where Shakira is also from). He would go on to become a singer and model. In his lifetime, Cuervo released three albums, including 2008’s Tras De Ti and 2013’s Este Soy Yo. Following the release of his last LP, 2015’s Historias de Amor, he achieved his first No. 1 hit on a Billboard chart. “La Receta” topped the Tropical Airplay chart later that year. In 2019, Cuervo performed “El Malo” at the Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Another one of Cuervo’s big hits was “No Pidamos Perdón” featuring fellow Colombian singer Fanny Lu. Their collaboration currently sits at No. 1 among Cuervo’s top songs on his Apple Music page. Earlier this year, he also released the singles “My Sexy Girl” and “Creo En Ti.”
