It’s all “good news” for Shaboozey lately.

The singer’s Grammy-nominated single, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” remains at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and is only three weeks away from breaking Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ record for the most weeks spent at No. 1 in the chart’s history. Shaboozey also just dropped his first new single since the release of his breakthrough album, Where I’ve Been Isn’t Where I’m Going.

“Good News” has Shaboozey pining for better days. Accompanied by a somber acoustic guitar and pedal steel guitar, he sings, “I need some good news / Sittin’ here, sippin’ on cold truth / Nobody knows what I’m goin’ through / Bet the devil wouldn’t walk in my shoes.”

Shaboozey was recently asked by Billboard about how he feels receiving Grammy nominations across multiple genres, including country and rap. “It’s bittersweet for sure,” he said. “There’s a tremendous amount of talent in the country space and there are so many well-written songs that I felt also deserved that look. Country music is not yearning for talent. The beautiful thing about country music — especially some of the people who have been doing it for such a long time – is that so many people could have been out in that category.”

It was revealed a few days ago that The Weeknd would deliver an “Apple Immersive” experience called “Open Hearts” via the Apple Vision Pro mixed-reality headset platform on November 15. Well, that’s today, so the new song is here.

Currently, the song and video are only officially available via Apple Vision Pro (whether its your own device or one at an Apple store), but fan-made recordings have surfaced online.

The Weeknd sings on the chorus, “Where do I start / When I open my heart? / It’s never easy falling in love again / Cover my scars / When I open my arms / It’s never easy falling in love again / Falling in, falling in love / It’s nеver easy falling in love again / Falling in, falling in love / Falling in love again.”

Apple previously called Apple Immersive Video “a remarkable storytelling format that leverages 3D video recorded in 8K with a 180-degree field of view and Spatial Audio to transport viewers to the center of the action.” Tor Myhren, Apple’s vice president of Marketing Communications, also noted, “Apple Immersive Video is a groundbreaking leap forward for storytelling, offering Apple Vision Pro users remarkable experiences with an unparalleled sense of realism and immersion. This week, the guys recorded Indiecast a few days early, so they apologize in advance for missing any potential indie news. Steven was off to NYC for the film festival premiere of Yacht Rock: A Dockumentary — which he worked on as story producer — ahead of streaming on HBO/Max on November 29. After a brief conversation about yacht rock, the guys talk about the exodus on social media to Bluesky and how the new-ish app feels like a Christian rock alternative to Twitter.

Then they hash out an unfortunate trend: The end of Pitchfork Fest. They share memories of the festival and discuss how it was like a convention for music writers. From there, they review the recent Grammy nominations, some truly weird picks for Best New Artist, and some surprisingly good picks for Best Alternative Album. Finally, they discuss the meteoric rise of the indie-adjacent singer-songwriter Mk.gee and whether it annoys Alex G.

In Recommendation Corner, Ian talks about the Chicago emo band Bottom Bracket and Steven recommends the LA post-punk quartet Bondo.

Denzel Curry’s new album King Of The Mischievous South is out now, along with a new music video for “Got Me Geeked.” The clip captures a debauched night at the strip club, where Denzel makes it rain, customers find themselves lost in the sauce, and of course, a fight breaks out over a spilled drink. It’s all in a night’s work for the dedicated dancers, though, who keep twerking through it all, spinning on the pole, and collecting bills from the stage.

King Of The Mischievous South is the album version of the mixtape Denzel released earlier this year, King Of The Mischievous South Vol. 2 (yes, it’s a little confusing, but Zel does what he wants), adding a handful of additional songs with features from alt-rap rising stars like Bktherula and Lazer Dim, as well as Dirty South mainstays like Duke Deuce and Sauce Walka. The project pays homage to the region’s musical lineage and legacy, from Memphis crunk and trap to Houston screw and Florida bounce, all filtered through Denzel’s unique, internet-influenced lens. It also still features fan favorite singles like “Hot One” with Ferg and TiaCorine, “Hoodlumz” with ASAP Rocky and PlayThatBoiZay, and “Set It” with Maxo Kream. In the chaotic video for Lil Nas X‘s new single, “Light Again,” a normal teenage garage party gets really, really out of hand. The video evokes the aesthetics and rave culture of the early 2000s, starting off with a flip phone invitation to a house party that quickly expands to a warehouse, then spills out into the streets, ultimately becoming a riot-level, citywide event.

The song itself invokes both Nas’ newest musical direction and some nostalgic vibes of classic hip-house — something that’s sure to irk Lil Nas critic Azealia Banks, although he’s already demonstrated that he has the perfect comebacks for the spiteful siren.

Nas previously shared a teaser of “Light Again” with a message to fans suggesting that his Dreamboy era will likely focus more on making him and his listeners happy than his prior focus on trolling the mainstream establishment.

Earlier this week, he shared the trailer for Dreamboy, which also promised to remind folks where he came from and get back to making music that uplifts his identity rather than trying to nail down the ever-elusive follow-up hit to No. 1s like “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Industry Baby.”

As country continues to crossover into pop culture’s upper echelons, California songwriter Dasha has emerged as a name to watch thanks to breakout songs like “Austin,” “Shiny Things,” and “Didn’t I.” As she completes her Dashville, USA tour this week, she also drops off her next potential hit: “Heartbreaker From Tennessee.” It’s considered the closing chapter of the story that she told via her debut album What Happens Now?, recounting her devastating fling with the titular Lothario.

In a message to fans on social media, Dasha wrote:

Hi guys! I get butterflies just thinking about this past year. It went by so quick, I feel like I blinked and then it was over. It still doesn’t even feel real. I’ve been dreaming about this shit since I was a little kid, and it truly blows my mind that this is my life now. Back in August, The Kid Laroi returned with the cocky single “Baby I’m Back,” following it up in October with “Aperol Spritz.” His latest single is the hedonistic “Slow It Down,” on which he put the request to pump the brakes to a paramour who has been going a little too hard of late. Built over an interpolation of Destiny’s Child’s “Independent Women, Part 1,” and featuring a pull from the hook of Juvenile’s 2003 hit “Slow Motion,” “Slow It Down” features a typically boastful verse from Quavo.

After Laroi notes that his newfound lover “moving too fast” in the wake of a few fly outs (hey, that’s just what happens when you go around love bombing these ladies, kid), Quavo backs him up but also maybe makes things worse after listing all the ways he can make her life more exciting. “Slow motion better than no motion,” he raps. “Shoppin’, drop a bag, I got the store closin’.” This leads to Laroi once again complaining, then explaining, “You’re moving too fast / I’m tryna make it last.”

It certainly seems like a new album from The Kid Laroi is on the way, but first, he’s one of the many artists set to appear on iHeartRadio’s Jingle Ball Tour for 2024.

Juice WRLD made his debut in 2018 with the breakout single “All Girls Are The Same,” which doubled as the lead single from his debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance. While its follow-up, “Lucid Dreams,” ultimately became the bigger song, “All Girls…” became a signature song for the Chicago emo rapper, and a staple of fans’ fondest memories of him upon his death in 2019.

The latest posthumous release from Juice revisits that all-important milestone, as Juice reunites with former tourmate Nicki Minaj for “AGATS2 (Insecure),” which is a sequel to his debut song. The two rappers trade verses both rapping and singing in their trademark styles over an airy beat from Louis Bell, best known as the producer for some of Post Malone’s biggest hits, such as “Sunflower,” “Rockstar,” and “Circles.”

Juice and Nicki were previously heard together on “Money,” from Young Thug’s 2023 album Business Is Business, while Nicki paid tribute to Juice during her a Billboard Women In Music Game Changer Award acceptance speech shortly after he passed.

Juice has also posthumously appeared on a handful of tracks in the past year or so, including “Lace It” with Benny Blanco and Eminem, and “Doomsday” with Cordae from Lyrical Lemonade’s All Is Yellow.

The video for BTS member Jin’s new single “Running Wild” owes a lot of “last man on Earth” narratives like Will Smith’s I Am Legend. Like that esteemed cable classic, the “Running Wild” video finds its protagonist roaming an empty city with his dog, although transferring the action to sunny California and setting it to the upbeat bop certainly change the tone from “horror” to “comedy.” Of course, the video has to introduce some conflict, which it does via a similar twist to the clip for Zedd and Ariana Grande’s 2014 EDM hit “Break Free,” with a deadly meteor shower smashing up the city as Jin and his pup flee for some semblance of safety.

“Running Wild” appears on Jin’s newly released album, Happy, alongside “I’ll Be There,” “Another Level,” “Until It Reaches You,” and “Heart on the Window.” The album’s release makes Jin the final member of the band to drop his solo debut album. It’s meant to be a “genuine, heartwarming gesture that invites listeners to join him on a journey to find happiness, offering them a sense of strength and comfort in their day-to-day lives.”

Back in August, Jack White hit the road on an unofficial tour to promote his new album, No Name (which is what fans are calling it, since it seems not to have an actual title). At the time, the Detroit native joked(?) “we don’t know what to tell you but the tour already started.”

Although he warned that the shows wouldn’t be announced very far in advance, it looks like tradition has won out (at least, temporarily) over his unconventional, fan-focused, but kind of confusing rollout. Today, he announced the official dates for the No Name tour, which is technically already underway, but will continue with a huge slate of shows in 2025.
