Just weeks after the death of Atlanta trap pioneer Rich Homie Quan, social media lit up with rumors that Quan’s former labelmate and fellow Atlanta trap rap fixture YFN Lucci had also died while serving out his sentence after pleading guilty to racketeering charges earlier this year.
However, the rapper’s attorney, Drew Findling, confirmed to TMZ that Lucci is still alive and kicking. Lucci, whose song “Everyday We Lit” with the late PnB Rock was his highest-charting hit at No. 33 on the Hot 10, was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 10 on probation after being indicted on racketeering charges in 2021. Per the terms of his plea deal, he became eligible for parole sometime this summer after time served and good behavior, however, it’s unclear whether he truly was released, as he’s kept a low profile since that news.
The racketeering charges against Lucci were among several similar cases brought against a string of rappers in recent years, including the much-publicized case against Lucci’s chief rival, Young Thug. That case generated a wave of controversy from the public due to its use of lyrics as evidence against him, and although some speculated Lucci might be called to testify against his nemesis, his lawyer actually wound up speaking out against the use of Georgia’s RICO law to indict both, calling it racist.
It’s certainly a relief to that Lucci is alive and well, considering how many rap artists have died way before their times this year.
Oscar-nominated Colin Farrell has been on a career-defining hot streak over the last few years, so he could really take any role he wanted to, and he chose to stick with a Batman villain. That’s his right as an Irishman, as so many have done before him.
The Penguin follows Farrell as his Batman villain who is working his way to the top of the Gotham City underworld. For his role of Oz Cobb, Farrell had to be fully suited up to the point where he looked unrecognizable. “I had a bodysuit, so I was basically covered wrist to ankle. Only things that were me were my hands and feet,” he told People Magazine. “Everything else, including ears, were pieces. Everything was covered.” Unfortunately, he meant “everything.”
Farrell then revealed information that nobody asked for, but he was happy to share anyway. When talking about his prosthetics needed during a nude scene, the actor praised artist Mike Marino, who also worked on The Batman. “Marino is so twisted and brilliant. He was like, ‘I made you a penguin penis,’” Farrell recalled. “I said, ‘Really? They’re not even going to see it. I don’t know if I want to walk on set with a penguin penis.” It gets weirder.
He continued to describe the detachable addition: “And he was like, ‘No, no, no, dude. It’s detachable, it’s Velcro. It’s got a beak at the end of it.’ So I had a penguin penis,” Farrell said.
Luckily, this can’t be seen on screen, because that would make The Penguin a different type of TV show that HBO probably isn’t on board with. But it’s nice that Farrell got a laugh! Especially since it seems like he won’t ever wear the suit again.
Still, it was important for the character. Farrell said, “If it wasn’t for Mike’s design, I’m telling you now, if it was just me with a f***ing cigarette and a top hat and a bit of a limp and an umbrella that was a machine gun, we wouldn’t have had the HBO show.” He’s was joking, but that show would definitely have been a cult favorite on The CW.
The Penguin premieres Thursday, Sept. 19, at 9 pm on HBO and Max.
After playing a sketchy neurosurgeon on Dr. Death, Joshua Jackson probably thought he was done with the whole doctor stuff. But in Doctor Odyssey, Jackson isn’t just any doctor… he’s a doctor on a luxury cruise ship line. Are you hooked yet?! Who wouldn’t want Pacey by their side during some choppy waves?
Doctor Odyssey is Murphy’s latest venture beyond his usual horror wheelhouse. The drama stars Jackson as the world-renowned Dr. Max Bankman who takes a gig working on the seas. While it might seem like your typical ABC drama similar to Grey’s Anatomy, the trailer is already pulling some impressive numbers worth singling out even though Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle And Erik Menendez is the Murphy show that actually released this week.
According to Deadline, the Doctor Odyssey trailer logged 77.8 million views within its first 48 hours of release after premiering at The Emmys. The makes it the most-watched trailer for a new broadcast TV show ever. It can only be compared to the trailer for the smash hit This Is Us, which drew similar numbers in 11 days.
The most surprising part of all? The trailer reportedly performed best on TikTok, of all places, where hoards of Dawson’s Creek fans are discussing the Joshua Jackson Renaissance and whether they want to tune in to the nautical drama. The fans are seemingly all in, saying that his character gives “Pacey vibes.”
On top of Jackson, the show stars Don Johnson, Philipa Soo, and Sean Teale. The show also features an impressive batch of guest stars including Shania Twain, John Stamos, Gina Gershon, Kelsea Ballerini, Chord Overstreet, and Cheyenne Jackson. The series will premiere on Thursday, September 26 at 9pm ET on ABC. Check out the trailer above.
With the final day of the WNBA regular season upon us, the playoff picture is mostly set. The New York Liberty (32-7) have the 1-seed locked up, while the Lynx (30-9) have pulled away with the 2-seed, as their 7-game winning streak has cemented their place in the standings.
The Sun (27-12) and Aces (26-13) are still technically battling for the 3-seed, as the Aces hold the tiebreaker over the Sun, but Vegas’ injury report lists a number of top players as doubtful for the final game as they seem fine holding down the 4-seed and facing the Storm (24-15) in the first round. Indiana (20-19) and Phoenix (19-20) are locked in as the 6- and 7-seeds respectively as the Fever have the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Mercury, no matter if they both finish 20-20.
The real battle on the final day of the season is for the 8-seed, where the Dream (14-25) hold a one-game lead on the Mystics (13-26) and Sky (13-26) for the final playoff position. Here, we’ll go over the scenarios that can lead to each team getting the 8-seed, starting with the most likely team in that spot, Atlanta.
Atlanta Dream Clinch Scenarios
Atlanta win
If the Dream win, they’re in. It’s that simple, and while facing the best team in the league isn’t the ideal spot to be in for that scenario, they will be getting a New York team likely looking to just get out of the regular season finale healthy and ready to go for the playoffs. Still, the Liberty might not want to give the Dream any ideas that they could win a first round series with New York, as that’d be the matchup, so we’ll have to see exactly how the Liberty play it.
Atlanta loss, Chicago loss, Washington loss
If all three teams lose, then the Dream also clinch as they already have a 1-game lead for eighth.
Atlanta loss, Washington win, Chicago loss
If Atlanta loses and Chicago loses to the Sun, the Dream are in no matter what happens between the Fever and Mystics. That’s because the Dream and Mystics split their season series 2-2, which pushes the tiebreaker to “record against teams above .500”, which favors Atlanta (who would be 4-18) over Washington (who would be 3-17).
Washington Mystics Clinch Scenario
Washington Win, Chicago Win, Atlanta Loss
Mystics fans hoping for a postseason berth will be rooting not only for Washington against Indiana, but also will need the Sky to beat the Sun. That is because this scenario triggers the three-way tie-breaker, which is the combined head-to-head records of each team, which favors Washington (5-3) over Atlanta (4-4) and Chicago (3-5).
Chicago Sky Clinch Scenario
Chicago win, Atlanta loss, Washington loss
There’s also only one way for the Sky to get into the postseason, and that is to beat the Sun and have both the Dream and the Sky lose. The Sky have a 2-2 record against Atlanta on the season, which pushes it to the second tiebreaker and Chicago would be 5-17 against above-.500 competition, while the Dream would be 4-18, giving the Sky the 8-seed.
Linkin Park fans have a lot to celebrate right now as the band has reunited, adding new singer Emily Armstrong to the lineup in place of the late Chester Bennington. Susan Eubanks, Bennington’s mother, isn’t thrilled with the situation, though.
“I feel betrayed. They told me that if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I wouldn’t going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.
I feel like they’re trying very hard to erase the past. They’re performing songs that Chester sang. And I don’t know how the fans are taking it, but I know how I take it. And having [Armstrong] singing my son’s songs is hurtful.
They said they would let the family know if they were going to reunite. They did not. [Bennington’s first wife] Samantha and [son] Draven didn’t know until it was told to the world. It was the same for me and it hurt.
I have seen Joe Hahn a few times since Chester died. The last time was maybe four, five years ago. And he promised that he would let me know what was going on, and he didn’t have any intention of starting the band back up.”
She then went on to discuss new singer Emily Armstrong, saying she heard about the new addition via Google. She also noted she listened to the band’s livestream, and after hearing Armstrong “screeching her way through a very high note,” she cried. She continued:
“Mike [Shinoda] told Chester one time that he thought singing these songs would be better with a girl, because he often put Chester down. And Chester called me and said, ‘He thinks that they’re going to replace me with a girl.’ And I said, ‘What do you mean?’ And he said Mike told him at rehearsal that, ‘If you decide you’re leaving, we’re going to replace you with a girl.’ And Chester was dumbfounded and hurt.
And the fact is that now they did it. So, of course, all that comes right back into my mind. I had a talk with my son about this. I didn’t think they’d probably do it.”
Before Chappell Roan was drawing huge crowds and getting Jenna Ortega to do the “Hot To Go!” dance, she was, well, she was still super talented. It’s just that the world at large didn’t know it yet. But Rachel Stavis did. The writer and director enlisted the singer to provide the score for her 2022 short horror film, Posies, which is being re-released on October 9.
Here’s the official synopsis for Posies: “As people begin to ‘devolve’ into monsters, one woman attempts to hide her transformation by placing flowers under her skin.” The short was written by Stavis, who co-directed with Katherine Fisher (it was also executive produced by Better Things and King of the Hill‘s Pamela Adlon!). You can watch the trailer above.
“Having Chappell Roan’s creativity and intensity strewn throughout Posies by way of the score that she so eloquently created was a dream come true,” Stavis said. “Our earliest discussions about this project centered around using her greatest instrument – her voice – to create a haunting, emotional, and atmospheric depth to the film. She captured exactly what we envisioned for this and did it virtually on her first try. It was extraordinary. She has an amazing gift of storytelling through music, and her composition remains one of the most unique and unforgettable elements of the film. We’re beyond grateful that she was able to create something so special – specifically for me and my audience – before her inevitable rise to fame.”
Posies, which stars Anna Diop and Andy Favreau, will be available to watch on ALTER on October 9. You can find more information here.
Within the past month, Dead Boy Detectivesreceived the ax by Netflix, and Disney put their planned Graveyard book movie adaptation on pause. Both decisions arrived in the wake of sexual assault allegations reported by Tortoise Media against fantasy author Neil Gaiman, who has denied the accusations against him by at least five women.
Some of those allegations are the subject of an ongoing investigation in New Zealand, and these concerns caused The Sandman viewers to wonder whether this will complicate Season 2’s arrival date or tip the balance against a third season of the Endless-focused show. Amid these mounting troubles, further questions about Prime Video/Amazon’s Good Omens have also been swirling, including whether the previously announced third season will happen or not.
At this time, Amazon has not made a definitive statement on whether Good Omens could be cancelled rather than proceed with more. However, signs of change might be afoot. According to Page Six, Gaiman is usually a “mainstay” at Jeff Bezos’ “top secret Campfire literary retreat” but will not attend this year for unknown reasons, and as Deadline reports, “Production has been paused on the third and final season of fantasy drama Good Omens, the Neil Gaiman drama for Amazon that’s shooting in Scotland” with (also reported) “discussions about possible production changes” taking place.
Neil Gaiman is understood to have offered to step back from the third and final season of Amazon Prime Video‘s fantasy drama Good Omens… Now, we understand that Gaiman has made an offer to Amazon and producers to take a back seat on the latest season so that it can continue amid crisis talks over the Terry Pratchett adaptation’s future. Deadline understands Gaiman’s offer is not an admission of wrongdoing following a podcast from Tortoise Media that chronicled accounts of two women, with whom he was in consensual relationships, who accused him of sexual assault. Another two have since come forward. Gaiman’s position is that he denies the allegations and is said to be disturbed by them.
Exactly what “stepping back” would entail, if it happens, remains a mystery for now, but the resulting changes could be substantial. Gaiman is not only the Good Omens showrunner and series creator but also a scriptwriter in adapting his jointly penned book with Terry Pratchett. So, this would not be a simple extraction if Amazon decides to proceed without Gaiman’s involvement on the final season of the earth-bound affairs of angelic Aziraphale (Martin Sheen) and the devilish Crowley (David Tennant). Nor has Netflix’s currently running Geeked Week revealed more about The Sandman‘s return date.
In other words, further news will endure the waiting game until further notice.
Diddy is on people’s minds right now, given that his sex trafficking and other charges are still fresh news. Now, a former associate has offered his perspective on the situation.
Shyne (real name Moses Barrow) spoke about Diddy with the media yesterday (September 18). As a rapper, Shyne — who is now a politician, currently the Leader Of The Opposition in the Belize House Of Representatives — was signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. In June 2001, he was convicted of assault and sentenced to 10 years in prison, over an incident at a nightclub that involved Diddy.
When Shyne spoke about Diddy, he distanced himself from his former boss, who he said “pretty much sent me to prison” and “destroyed my life.” He said:
“When I was an 18-year-old kid, just wanting to do nothing other than make my mother proud and make Belize proud and do what all of us wanted to do: be recognized for my talent and take over the world, I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. He contributed… he pretty much sent me to prison. That is the context by which you must always describe that relationship. Yes, I forgave, I moved on, but let us not pretend as if I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas. […]
So, let us not lose sight of what the cold, hard facts are. This was not someone who I vacationed with and who he and I enjoyed this great, intimate relationship of brotherhood. This is someone who destroyed my life, and who I forgave, and who I moved on and for the better interest of Belize, because he was in a position at that time to give scholarships and to maybe invest, I would not deny attempting to bring the investment to Belize and contribution to education to Belize.
But don’t distort it as if he and I were boom bally. This is someone that destroyed my life. But do I take any joy, any satisfaction, with what he is going through? Absolutely not. I am different than other people: No one needs to fail for me to succeed.”
Earlier this week, Zach Bryan posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Eagles > Chiefs Kanye > Taylor who’s with me.” Bryan explained that he wasn’t trying to demean Taylor Swift and “drunkenly tweeted about Kanye,” but the backlash still caused him to deactivate his X account. As of this writing, Bryan’s X account remains deactivated, but he further explained himself across several Instagram Story posts on Thursday, September 19.
“For the record guys I wasn’t coming for Taylor the other night,” Bryan wrote in his first post, which also showed Swift’s “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. “I was drunkenly comparing two records, and it came out wrong. I know there’s a lot of stuff that clouds around Ye, and I was speaking purely musically. I love Taylor’s music and pray you guys know I’m human and tweet stupid things often. Hope one day I can explain this to her. Twitter gets me in trouble too much, and I’d say it’s best I stay off it. I’m sorry to any Taylor fans I pissed off or let down. Love you guys and I’m trying my best!”
Bryan’s following post was soundtracked by Swift’s “The Albatross.” He wrote, “I’ve been going through a hard time in my own life, and I think I was projecting a little. To be completely honest, it just came off as rude and desensitized to Taylor. I respect her so much as a musician that the last thing I want is people thinking I don’t appreciate and love what she has done for music. Okay, that’s the last of it! Love you guys and hope you guys understand. Don’t drink and tweet. Don’t drink and tweet!!”
That was not the last of it.
Bryan posted again — this time, to the tune of Swift’s “Castles Crumbling (Taylor’s Version) [From The Vault]” featuring Hayley Williams. He wrote, “Not saving face here, but Taylor has been a force of nature for as long as we’ve all been growing up, and I admire that. I’m gonna go listen to this record now. I never want people to think I have a hint of malice or meanness towards anyone, ever, that’s why I’m saying all this. Everyone have the best day of all time, I love ya.”
One more time!
Bryan’s final of this four-post Instagram Story string reads:
“This year has been an awful lot on me in personal ways that no one knows, and I’ve been trying to cope and balance too many things at once. So I’m going to take a breather from tweeting stupid stuff, finish my tour, and ground myself somehow in the midst of all this. I feel very, very blessed each day.
Not taking it for granted and holding onto it has been so important to me. Okay, needed to get this off my chest, y’all are the best and I’ll see you at Bourbon & Beyond.”
Traditionally speaking, currently running Law & Order series tend to premiere on the same night. This season happens to be different. Both the flagship series and Law & Order: SVU are returning on October 3 without Organized Crime in tow.
Do not worry, however. The Christopher Meloni-starring undercover adventure has not been cancelled, although that renewal came slow with NBCUniversal eventually revealing that the show would continue exclusively on Peacock (for streaming) for the fifth season. This late-date renewal also put production behind the other series, but also, this spin off doesn’t have to worry about adhering to a team-approach timetable for return.
Although this could be a bummer for Meloni lovers, this also sounds promising because, hey, Organized Crime might now be a way to bridge gaps in between seasons when SVU and the main series go on hiatus. Also, Meloni has been writing part of the fifth season, and we want to make sure that he does right by Elliot Stabler, and if that takes more time, so be it.
Does Law & Order: Organized Crime Have A Season 5 Premiere Date?
Jokes aside, Organized Crime does not have a publicized return date yet. The latest word from Deadline on the spin off is that casting is still somewhat underway for new characters, so it does sound probable that this show will not return until the other two current Law & Order shows go on hiatus. In other words, bet on late Spring or early Summer 2025. If you are impatient for Meloni, however, the first four seasons are on Peacock for the taking.
