Gunna Was Denied Bond A Third Time After Claiming Prosecutors ‘Had No Evidence’ To Keep Him Locked Up

It looks as though Gunna will remain locked up until his January trial on racketeering charges after his third request for bond was again denied, according to Billboard. Judge Ural Glanville agreed with prosecutors that there was a chance Gunna could intimidate or otherwise tamper with witnesses, despite protests from Gunna’s legal team that there is “no evidence” he’s a danger. As Glanville explained, “I still have the same concerns that have not been otherwise alleviated.”

Gunna was indicted in May along with Young Thug and over 20 other members of their crew YSL on dozens of accounts of violations of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO Act). Prosecutors say the label, “Young Stoner Life” was actually a violent street gang, “Young Slime Life,” and is responsible for acts of murder, armed robbery, drug dealing, and more. The inclusion of the rappers in the indictment has drawn criticism from observers including fans, fellow artists, music industry moguls, and even lawmakers in other states for its use of the artists’ lyrics to tie them to the criminal activities of the alleged street gang, with many calling the move a racist application of the RICO Act.

Critics say that the indictment plays on stereotypes about rappers and Black men in general; Gunna’s defense made similar arguments, challenging the prosecution to offer proof that Gunna had actually threatened anyone. However, prosecutors said that they intended to provide that evidence, saying a co-defendant in the case told Gunna, “I will still wack someone for you.” That was apparently enough for Judge Glanville.

Gunna is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

‘Stranger Things’ Inspired Brett Gelman To Want To Become An Action Movie Star

Brett Gelman has a fascinating career.

The actor and comedian had small-but-essential roles on three of the most acclaimed television shows of the past 20 years in Mad Men, Fleabag, and Twin Peaks: The Return. Eagleheart, which he starred on with Chris Elliott and Maria Thayer, is an underrated Adult Swim gem. His Dinner with Friends specials are extremely funny, and he showed off his acting chops in the darkly funny Lemon, which he also co-wrote.

And now Gelman is on the Netflix mega-hit Stranger Things, which inspired him for the next phase of his career: action star.

“I want to do that,” he told the Guardian about pulling a Bob Odenkirk. “I’m meeting with people about that. One of the things that I love about Stranger Things is that it harkens back to a cinema that I really love. For a long time, I always saw myself as the villain. But the show really opened up the possibility of being the hero for me. I would really like to be that fun action star. It is definitely something I am focused on doing right now.”

Gelman also shared some one of the benefits of being on a popular show. “Hey, I mean, I’ll be honest, it’s nice being able to get into restaurants easier,” he said. “And I love the fans, I love that they’re moved by it, and it makes them feel good.” But mostly the restaurant thing.

‘Succession’ Is Giving The People What They Want: More Alexander Skarsgård And A Trip To Norway

What every television series needs is more Skarsgårds and more Norwegian mountains.

Succession season four could not come soon enough, especially after that brutal season three finale. Every Sunday without is empty (at least we have House of the Dragon which is fantasy-Succession to sustain us for the time being, but it’s still not the same). While we might not be getting the next season of Succession until next year, we know that the Roy family (and probably all of the people who follow them around such as Geri and Karl) are heading to Norway.

Variety reports that in the fourth season, Lukas Matsson (played by the one and only Alexander Skarsgård) will welcome the Roys on a trip to the Norwegian mountains. Per Variety, producer Scott Ferguson is overseeing the shoot in Norway. Actors Skarsgård, Nicholas Braun, and Sarah Snook have been confirmed to be shooting scenes from the fourth season across “a number of locations is western Norway.” Ferguson also confirmed to the outlet that the fourth season will dive more into Matsson as the sale of Waystar Royco to the tech mogul heats up. Everyone deserves more Alexander Skarsgård as a treat.

“When we saw images of the remarkable architecture and setting of Juvet we got really excited,” Ferguson told Variety. “Norway is a glorious, natural setting. It immediately seemed like a perfect place for a family gathering in the series. We studied different countries, but we realized Norway just has this exceptional landscape — like nowhere else in the world.”

Succession will return with Mr. Skarsgård for season four in 2023 (most likely).

‘Inventing Anna’ Subject Anna Delvey Got Grilled By Jake Tapper For Only Admitting To A ‘Victimless Crime’ And Having No Real Regrets

Part-time grifter Anna Delvey has just been released from prison and is now out and about for the first time since her story was portrayed in a hit Netflix series earlier this year. Inventing Anna told the (mostly) true story of Delvey (also known as Anna Sorokin) who racked up a hefty $275,000 bill around various New York hotels and banks after claiming she was an heiress waiting for her father to wire over some money. Spoiler alert: he never did, and Delvey was charged with fraud and intentionally deceiving major financial institutions.

After going to jail in 2017, Delvey was then taken into immigration custody where she has been for the last 18 months. Today, the fake heiress is a free woman, so naturally, her first step is to do a tell-all interview with CNN. Only the “Telling” is more like Delvey still insisting she didn’t do anything wrong, and Jake Tapper wasn’t having it.

While speaking with Delvey, Tapper attempted to find even a small hint of remorse coming from the grifter, though she stood her ground. Tapper then asked if Delvey ever apologized, to which she said she apologized in court, but not to anyone personally…including her friend who she stole $62,000 from. “Well, I didn’t steal any money from friends,” she said. “And everybody else is a financial institution.” Tapper then said there was no way that this was a “victimless crime” because she took advantage of people, “I definitely did,” she noted. “And I was younger, and I’ve learned from my mistakes.”

Despite a vague statement about making mistakes, Delvey still thinks that she is owed another shot in the spotlight. “I feel like a deserve a second chance, it was my mistake that I made,” the con artist/sometimes real artist said. “I served my time and I feel like I should deserve a second opportunity.”

Tapper then asked a loaded question about how Americans responded to Delvey’s fame. “Do you think there is something about the US where we are fascinated by con artists, grifters, liars?” This was proven by the fact that Inventing Anna became a huge streaming hit as part of the Summer of Scammers.

“I would say so, yes,” Devley said. “If I were to be prosecuted for similar crimes in Germany, I don’t think people would really care,” she noted. “I never really wanted to be famous…I just wanted to work on my business.” Delvey was open about the influx of marriage proposals and fans she made while in jail, so Americans are definitely fascinated with her crimes. It’s only a matter of time before she has a reality show or begins dating Pete Davidson.

Family decorates their house for Halloween with a funny new skeleton scene every day in October

The Dinote family of San Antonio, Texas, inadvertently started a tradition in 2020 when they purchased two human skeletons and a skeleton dog to decorate their lawn for Halloween. Steven Dinote told KSAT they jokingly propped one up against a lawnmower, which gave his wife, Danielle, the idea of making the skeleton walk the dog the next day.

This led to a competition where the family members try to outdo one another with funny ideas.

“It started as a joke in October 2020 when everyone was home during the pandemic,” Steven told Today. The displays became must-sees for the people in the neighborhood who would stroll by their house to see what the skeletons were up to each day.

“We didn’t realize how popular it got … we had neighbors all of a sudden walk on up and say ‘We love your display, we purposely change our walks just to see what you got,’” Dinote said. Since 2020, the skeleton display has expanded to four adults, a kid, a dog, a cat and a piranha-like fish.

The family says it takes between 20 minutes to an hour to set up the scenes daily. They put everything together in the morning, but sometimes have to do a bit of preparation the night before.

The family has even set up a Facebook page, Skeleton House of San Antonio, where people around the world can keep up with the family’s antics. Last year’s scenes included couples’ yoga, a rock band and painter Bob Ross giving a painting lesson.

This year started with a scene of the skeleton family returning from vacation to celebrate the holiday. “Boo!! We’re back!!!” a sign on the lawn read. What a great way to kick off the season.

This scene of the skeletons golfing was so detailed that the Dinotes’ neighbor, Oscar Carrero, could only do it justice by taking a video. The golf balls in the scene go all the way to the neighbor’s lawn where another skeleton is holding the pin.

Here’s a scene from “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.” They did a perfect job of recreating the ghost costumes worn by the “Peanuts” kids.

A Texas-style BBQ! “Bone appetit, y’all!”

A lucha libre match. This scene could also work to celebrate Dia de Los Muertos.

The boney break dancers. I wonder if they’re listening to Bone Thugs-N-Harmony? “See you at the crossroads, crossroads, crossroads …”

In the end, for the Dinotes, it’s all about spreading some cheer during times that have been challenging for a lot of people.

“We’re getting a lot of people coming up and thanking us and bringing a little joy. We had one person say there’s so much negative stuff going on in the news, everyone’s bitter with each other and it makes their day just to come over and see a little bit of humor,” he said. “If that helps, that makes us happy.”

When it comes to Halloween songs, we’ve all heard the classics. Tracks like Michael Jackon’s “Thriller” or the classic novelty song “Monster Mash” seemingly play on repeat during the month of October. But when it comes to Halloween music in the indie genre, there are some consistently overlooked tunes that fit right in with the spooky season. That’s where Making A Mixtape comes in. In the 11th episode of the series, Thursday vocalist and Making A Mixtape host Geoff Rickly is joined by Norwegian songwriter Anna Of The North to share their picks for the best indie Halloween songs.

Emoni Bates’ Felony Gun Charges Will Be Dismissed As Part Of A Plea Deal

Eastern Michigan University guard Emoni Bates‘ felony gun charges are slated to be dismissed next week as part of a plea deal negotiated by his lawyer, Steve Haney, according to ESPN’s Jeff Borzello. Haney also said Bates is in the midst of being reinstated by the university, athletic department, and school president after being suspended the past three weeks while his case was being resolved.

Eastern Michigan University sources confirmed to Borzello that Bates is cleared to return to basketball practices and will soon return to campus for classes as well.

“”It’s my understanding he’s actively being cleared by the school administration to return to campus today to resume his studies and his basketball career,” Haney said Thursday. “I’m very pleased this matter has been resolved so Emoni can get back to school and join his teammates.”

Last month, on Sept. 18, Bates was arrested and charged with carrying a concealed weapon and “altering ID marks” on a firearm.

“Haney told ESPN that the arrest came after a routine traffic stop when Bates was driving a borrowed car that had a gun in it,” Borzello wrote. “Bates is expected to plead to one misdemeanor count of attempted illegal transportation of a weapon. It will be entirely dismissed upon completion of a misdemeanor diversion program.”

‘PGA Tour 2K23’ Feels Mostly The Same, For Better And Worse

It’s been two years since 2K made its debut in the golf video game business, and as such, there was some excitement about how they would build off of their very strong first entry, PGA Tour 2K21.

They got Tiger Woods to be the cover athlete, added more PGA Tour and LPGA Tour pros to their roster to be available to play in the game, and struck deals with a few more club and apparel companies, but the hope that the game would really expand in its second edition two years later just didn’t materialize. PGA Tour 2K23 is very similar to the first offering, with the same positives and negatives to the last edition.

We’ll start with the positives. The one thing that really makes this game stand out to its competition is the course creator. It’s the star of 2K and HB Studios’ offering, the best part of the game for every golfer who has believed they could construct a great course — or for those who want to get really weird. You can get lost in the course creator for days changing the smallest details in an effort to create your masterpiece, and it really is an impressive course building engine.

From a gameplay perspective, it’s still a game that can be as difficult as you want it to be, mirroring the maddening line all golfers toe between playing well and playing poorly. That remains a positive, to me, as it’s a game that keeps you coming back to try and improve in a way previous golf games didn’t because of how easy they are to master. You truly do have to think your way around a course and consider everything from the slope of the fairway to the wind to the elevation, which is what makes golf … golf.

However, 2K23 still has the same issues on the course as the previous game, where the rough and sand are far too penalizing and every course playing as if it were a US Open venue. Being able to hit shots only 65-70 percent of your normal distance out of the rough isn’t realistic on most PGA Tour courses, and if they just bumped that to 75-80 percent for heavy rough, it’d remain a challenge but not make some approaches impossible in a way that’s just not the case for PGA Tour players.

The swing system is almost identical to what was in 2K21, with the same issue of not being able to build a unique swing, just working within the one stock swing built into the game. It’s a disappointment considering the additions of so many pros to the game, as there’s nothing about their golf games that differentiate them. The tempo changes from full swings to the varying shot types you’ll hit around the green are maddening to figure out. That may not be a terrible thing, but beware that you’ll chunk some chips and bunker shots in baffling ways when you thought you made a decent stroke.

Overall, it’s still a good golf game with a few flaws, but for fans hoping for something like more expansion of the career mode, there’s not a ton. The best improvement is the addition of a badge system similar to NBA 2K. Figuring out your player and club builds are, genuinely, a great part of the game, as you can tinker with varying elements to try and make your player fit your style as best as possible—- it’s something of a middle ground for the inability to build a unique swing.

Beyond that, though, there’s not much to say about the career mode. You still play your “rival” heads up, one tournament at a time, trying to beat them to win some gear. Your sponsors don’t even so much as provide you with a base set of gear, but after you reach each tier, you get a random piece of equipment or accessory. The lack of majors — which all have a deal with EA Sports — remains a bit of a bummer, as does the lack of diversity of courses, as you have the various TPCs and then a bunch of created courses that fill in the gaps on the schedule.

The reality right now is that we have two golf games that have half of the formula for a great game, and as long as exclusive rights deals exist, I’m not sure we’ll ever get the complete experience. EA Sports’ return to the golf gaming arena will bring the four majors back as well, including all of the major championship courses we’re accustomed to playing in a game, headlined by Augusta National. 2K, meanwhile, has an incredible course creator engine and far superior gameplay to the EA games of the past, which leaves one to wonder if EA’s offering will be able to match that quality when it returns next spring.

All told, PGA Tour 2K23 is a good but incomplete golf game. If you have 2K21, you’re really not missing out on anything other than you can play as Tiger (or Michael Jordan or Stephen Curry) in quick play — but even then, it’s just a Tiger skin of the same golfer as all the rest. If you don’t and want to get a golf game, it’s a more than worthwhile investment. Maybe their next edition will open up the world further, but right now, we have a very similar game with a few updates and new faces.
