Plenty of rappers have had label squabbles recently, and it looks like Roddy Ricch has joined the ever-growing list. He’s been promising fans the third edition of his Feed Tha Streets mixtape series for some time, and despite his label, Atlantic, not counting it as an album against his contract, he still plans to put it out for the sake of his supporters.

In a post on Instagram, Roddy shared a screenshot of a text message between him and his managers. Roddy writes, “The label don’t wanna count Feed Tha Streets 3 as an album cuz it’s always been a mixtape series but the fans need it so let’s drop when I get off tour.” This announcement was met with excitement by fans in his comments section — and with skepticism in others.

Due to the lukewarm response to Roddy’s last full-length album, Live Life Fast, some believe Feed Tha Streets 3 could be a make or break moment for him. In reality, there’s no such thing — artists’ careers have always had peaks and valleys and now, thanks to social media and streaming, they can at least weather those storms without worrying about trying to appeal to everyone and focus on their own fan bases — which is apparently exactly what Roddy intends to do with Feed Tha Streets 3.

Roddy will be on tour with Post Malone on the Twelve Carat Toothache Tour until November 15, when the tour concludes in his hometown, Los Angeles, at Staples — sorry, Crypto.com Arena (ugh). Considering his penchant from dropping in December, maybe we can expect that tape sometime around Christmas.

Disney has been slowly but surely churning out its live-action adaptations of classic animated films. There was Beauty and the Beast, Cinderella, and Mulan all without the last few years, and that was just the beginning. We recently endured the Pinocchio rollout which was, uh, not as well-received as Disney might have hoped. But we all love Tom Hanks anyway. Now, the upcoming Little Mermaid adaptation is starting to come together, and we might finally have a worthwhile live-action adaptation that Disney is hoping for.

After a dazzling first teaser showed off Halle Bailey as Ariel, many fans are starting to get excited about the upcoming film, which will hit theaters in May of next year. While we’ve only gotten a glimpse of Ariel, the rest of the cast has been confirmed, and filming wrapped last summer, so here is what we know.

Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs will be voicing Sebastian, King Triton’s crab advisor who watches over Ariel while she embarks on her various adventures. Triton himself will be portrayed by No Country For Old Men’s Javier Bardem. Room’s Jacob Tremblay will lend his voice to Flounder, the tropical yellow fish who hangs around Ariel as she daydreams about the Above World, while Scuttle the seagull will be voiced by Awkwafina.

As for Prince Eric, Jonah Hauer-King will play the dashing human who is rescued by Ariel. Hauer-King stepped in after Harry Styles turned down the role due to scheduling conflicts. Styles has other movies to focus on, anyway. Finally, the evil Ursula will be portrayed by Melissa McCarthy.

Bailey posted a heartfelt message to her cast and crew after they wrapped, saying that they welcomed Bailey to her first movie set with open arms and nothing but kindness.

The Little Mermaid is expected to hit theaters on May 26th, 2023.

John Oliver’s most recent deep dive tore into Dick Wolf’s all-too-easy road to justice on TV, particularly with the Law & Order franchise. Perhaps most excruciating are cases that can’t possibly be compared to Law & Order: SVU, where those “especially heinous” cases (steered by “the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies [who] are members of an elite squad”) are generally wrapped up within an hour, including commercial breaks. That reality doesn’t stop the franchise from being wildly popular to the point where a crossover event is on the way later this month.

Still, Oliver called out the franchise, which includes not only the flagship series and SVU but also Organized Crime. That final series plays more of a long game, but that’s beside Oliver’s point, through which he dragged the Dragnet-obsessed Dick Wolf for his “fantasy” portrayal (i.e., “entertaining” and not slow as molasses with often frustrating results) of justice. This made a relevant Emmys skit (starring Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni) very awkward, but on social media, some scrutiny was going down.

In response to the episode, a surprising perspective arrived. Diane Neal, who played ADA Casey Novak on SVU for over a decade, reached out to her followers on Twitter. “Did any of you watch @LastWeekTonight with @iamjohnoliver ? about the depiction of #lawenforcement on #svu giving victims who report sex crimes in real life unrealistic expectations,” Neal tweeted. “[T]hat the cops will care or crimes will be solved?”

Well, Neal heard from a lot of people who felt burned by their visits with law enforcement. And that makes sense, given that dockets are jam packed, and cops are busy as hell, and protectors aren’t perfect. And Neal agrees that “[I]f #OliviaBenson #svu were real, there would be a LOT more justice.” She then added, “I’m embarrassed to admit, I used to think the way it worked on the show was like real life. Then I found out the hard way I was wrong.”

Neal further shared a tip of one prosecutor, who warned sexual assault survivors that SVU isn’t like real life, and the actress declared, “That is a great and honest way to talk to victims.”

And to answer a Twitter user who relayed how survivors almost universally regret reporting sexual assaults, Diane got really real: “I feel that 100%.”

Casey Novak (and Olivia Benson) would be proud.

Joe Biden‘s team hasn’t really been known for its online game. The current president is as old school as it gets, preferring more traditional forms of campaign messaging and smacking down malarkey with a witty retort when the need arises. However, going into the midterms, his team has leaned into the Dark Brandon memes populating Twitter and stepped up Biden’s presence on the social media platform. Plus, who can resist a chance to dunk on Rick Scott? It’s practically irresistible.

On Tuesday evening, the Florida senator made a big deal about heading to the White House to personally deliver his latest plot to save the country.

“[Joe Biden] said he wished he had enough copies of my Rescue America plan, so I stopped by the White House today to make sure he did,” Scott tweeted along with a picture of himself holding the bill. “Thanks for spreading the word, Joe!”

However, what Scott didn’t plan for was Biden’s team calling his bluff and making sure Americans know exactly what he plans to do much-needed programs. Within hours of Scott’s tweet, they already added a new page to Biden’s website just to drag “Rescue America.”

“Couldn’t agree more, Rick,” Biden tweeted. “And if anyone else wants to read your plan to put Social Security and Medicare on the chopping block, they should go to joebiden.com/rickscottsplan.”

You’d think Scott would’ve anticipated this move considering he got burnt by Biden’s team just a few weeks ago. The Florida senator tried to attack Biden for being on vacation. Instead, Scott found himself getting dragged for being on a yacht in Italy at the same time. Whoops.

Just weeks before he was shot to death in an apparent robbery attempt, PnB Rock said rappers being robbed was “common” and described a confrontation with LA gangbangers. Appearing on DJ Akademiks’ Off The Record podcast, Rock and Akademiks discussed what some have called a trend of rappers being murdered in LA, including Nipsey Hussle in 2019, Pop Smoke in 2020, and Drakeo The Ruler in 2021. “It’s more than three [rappers getting robbed],” he asserted. “N****s be gettin’ their sh*t took. It don’t be spoken about… now it’s so common.”

PnB Rock was killed on Monday when a man reportedly accosted him while dining at Roscoe’s Chicken House Of Chicken And Waffles in South Central, demanding he hand over his jewelry while brandishing a gun. Police say there was a struggle, and at the end of it, PnB Rock had been shot. He was pronounced dead less than an hour after the initial shooting was confirmed by credible sources. His passing brought a wave of mourning from the hip-hop community.

In a bitter twist, PnB Rock had told Akademiks during their interview, “I never got robbed, ever in my life. I ain’t gonna say ‘never’ because I don’t like saying ‘never’ — I’m not superstitious — but I haven’t been robbed.”

There was a notable shake-up in the United Kingdom monarchy recently, as has been widely reported by now: Queen Elizabeth II died at 96 years old last week, at which point Prince Charles III immediately ascended to the throne and took on a new title, King Charles III. Billie Eilish shared a moment with Charles and other members of the royal family not long ago, which she looked back on in an interview.

In a new conversation on Australian radio show Fitzy & Wippa, Eilish noted she met Charles; Camilla, Queen consort of the United Kingdom; Prince William; and Kate Middleton at the UK premiere of No Time To Die in 2021. The whole thing was far less formal than she was anticipating.

She said, “I had it all ready to go. I was studying what the etiquette was supposed to be. I was ready to curtsy, I was ready to not shake a hand, I was ready to not ask questions, and [laughs] not speak unless I was spoken to. I was so worried about it, too, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m not going to know how to do it.’ And they all walked and they were like [does handshake gesture], ‘Hey, what’s up, how are you, how’s it going?’”

During his near-20-year football career, Brett Favre and the people around him always tried their damndest to present the legendary quarterback as the kind of guy who wore Wrangler jeans and drove an old-school pick-up with a mutt riding shotgun. Then he started playing golf with Donald Trump and endorsing him for re-election, and everything went to shit. (OK, he was also accused of being a dick pic-sending fiend in 2010, but even that story quickly died down.)

But it turns out that the Hall of Famer might not be as all-American as he has portrayed himself over the years. Unless the new definition of “patriotism” is committing welfare fraud — in order to build a volleyball arena, of all things.

Earlier this month, news first broke that Favre was at the center of an investigation into possible welfare fraud. According to reports, the athlete conspired with nonprofit founder Nancy New (who was arrested alongside her son Zach in early 2020 and pleaded guilty) and former Mississippi governor Phil Bryant to re-route at least $5 million of state funding earmarked for welfare recipients into the building of a new volleyball stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi, where Favre’s daughter attends college and plays the sport.

Now, Mississippi Today’s Anna Wolfe is reporting that recently reviewed text messages show Bryant coaching Favre on how to write a proposal that would get him funding from the Mississippi Department of Human Services in order to build the new facility. Messages between Favre and Nancy New, meanwhile, indicate that he was aware of the potential for blowback should the press ever discover where this money came from, and that he took precautions to insulate himself from any media scrutiny:

Bryant, meanwhile, has spent years denying these claims — even though he apparently floated the idea of having his name on this fancy-schmancy new volleyball Mecca.

While neither Bryant nor Favre have so far been charged with anything regarding the scheme, New pleaded guilty to 13 felony counts, so the walls are closing in.

When asked by Mississippi Today whether he had spoken with the governor about the new volleyball stadium in 2020, Favre responded with a simple “no.” Bud Holmes, Favre’s lawyer, has also staunchly denied it as well, stating that: “Brett Favre has been honorable throughout this whole thing.” (Alleged dick pics excluded.)

It’s also worth noting that Favre’s alleged net worth is $100 million.

In late August, the world learned that Leonardo DiCaprio and Camila Morrone, his model/actress girlfriend of more than four years, had called it quits. But rather than lament the end of yet another one of the serial monogamist’s long-term relationships, people started to notice an odd trend: DiCaprio, who is pushing 48, seems to regularly tire of his significant others once they hit the big 25 and can legally rent a car.

DiCaprio clearly heard all the jokes about his Menudo-esque girlfriend rotation (including Dionne Warwick’s), and is here to tell you you’re wrong. And he’s willing to prove it. How? By dating an older woman… well, older for Leo at least. As Page Six reports, DiCaprio has been seen getting cozy with supermodel Gigi Hadid, who is practically a grandma at 27. (Perhaps he didn’t realize that Gigi’s sister and fellow supermodel Bella Hadid is two years younger?)

According to an insider, the couple is reportedly “taking it slow,” which is probably a good idea given Hadid’s advanced age. While DiCaprio might see it as a way to show that he’s no ageist when it comes to love, most of the rest of the world is laughing even harder now.

(Yes, searches for Gigi’s age really did skyrocket when word leaked that she and Leo might be a burgeoning item.)

When news broke on Tuesday, September 13 that Kenneth Starr had passed away at the age of 76 from complications due to surgery, the bulk of the headlines failed to mention his role as former U.S. solicitor general under George H. W. Bush and instead focused on his investigation into Bill Clinton’s Whitewater real estate investments, which eventually led to the then-president’s impeachment.

Of course, it was also Starr’s investigation that led to the very public discovery of Clinton’s affair with Monica Lewinsky, a former White House intern who was 24 years old when her relationship with the president was splashed all over the media. Lewinsky, like so many victims before her, was demonized at the time. But instead of being happy to quietly fade from the spotlight, she has used her name to become a powerful social activist who regularly speaks out against bullying with honesty, grace, and humor. She also served as a consultant on Impeachment: American Crime Story, the 2021 installment of Ryan Murphy’s anthology series, which recounted the story of the aftermath of Lewinsky’s relationship with Clinton.

So it was only natural that people would be curious about what Lewinsky had to say about the death of Starr — the man who turned her twenty-something life into a tabloid spectacle. And her response was a lesson in maturity and grace:

Yesterday, Cardi B stopped by her old Bronx middle school, Morris Park’s IS 232, to give back to her beginnings. Cardi donated $100,000, with the hopes of the pledge being used for developing arts education and after-school programs. She was joined by New York City schools chancellor David Banks, Community Capacity Development founder K. Bain, and principal Desiree Resto, as she also gave students an inspirational speech.

“I’m hoping we can have amazing after-school activities. Maybe like tutoring or maybe something fun like a music program. Y’all like music, y’all like to dance?” she asked, as students appeared for the donation announcement as well. “Maybe we can have an amazing after-school program. But I will be donating $100,000 to the school.”

“We are thrilled to welcome Cardi back home to IS 232 in the Bronx, and we are so grateful for her generous contribution to her alma mater,” Banks said. “Cardi B’s commitment of $100,000 for the arts will help the school’s kids soar to their highest heights. Thank you, Cardi.”

The Bronx musician has given back in the past. Just last week, Cardi surprised kids at the non-profit Community Capacity Development’s school event. She is continuing to spread messages about human justice work, by also visiting schools in Queens and Brooklyn. Throughout the pandemic, she donated $1 million to families in need of assistance in April 2020. She would also donate 20,000 meals to New York City hospitals and matched fan donations to various charities in December 2020.

“Any charity or foundation drop your receipts under the comment I will match what you donated and match your donation to that same charity or foundation. Lets match energy,” Cardi wrote on Twitter at the time.
