DIIV’s ‘Return Of Youth’ Video Is A Haunting Reminder Of Everything Lost In the California Wildfires

After releasing 2024’s best “political shoegaze album,” DIIV are back with a new song. “Return Of Youth” was recorded around the Frog In Boiling Water sessions, but it took on a different meaning after frontman Zachary Cole Smith and his family lost their home in the California wildfires.

“at the very beginning of the year my family and i lost our home and everything we owned to the wildfires in altadena, ca,” he wrote in a statement. “we had been preparing for the birth of our second son. we were living in the beautiful world at home that i had imagined in this song, and at once that world was gone. when we re-approached this song to finally release it, i couldn’t help but hear the song differently in the aftermath. what makes a home? can you ever escape the outside world? is hope just a delusion? is anyone actually prepared to be a parent? how CAN you bring a child into this world?”

Cole Smith added, “i found again the big questions were irrelevant. you just keep on living i guess. life happens on life’s terms. anyway, make of the song and the video whatever you want, it’s just a snapshot, albeit a more personal one this time.”

Gunna Appears To Tease The Release Date Of His Upcoming Album

Gunna 2024 BET Awards (1024x437)

Gunna has been on an absolute tear for a while now: Every year since 2016, he has dropped a full-length project in one form or another. Around this time last year, he delivered One Of Wun (one of Elliott Wilson’s favorite albums of 2024), and lately, he’s been teasing a follow-up.

On Instagram in April, he shared a video of himself in a studio and wrote, “IM OTW ! ALBUM SOON !” Then, this past weekend, he again dropped off another Insta gallery and wrote, “06/ /2025 !!!” With the middle part of that date left intentionally blank, he seems to be teasing something dropping in June, which commenters have speculated is a new album.

No title for the upcoming project has been revealed yet. We don’t have a tracklist, either, but he has dropped a bunch of non-album singles since One Of Wun, some of which could make it onto the new album. Possibilities include “Style Rare,” “Him All Along,” “Got Damn,” and “Classy Girl.”

Meanwhile, Gunna is part of this year’s strong Summer Jam 2025 lineup, which also includes GloRilla, A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie, Muni Long, Asake, Ayra Starr, Ja Rule & Friends: A Tribute To Irv Gotti, Kash Doll, Bobby Konders & Jabba Feat. Masicka, Jim Jones & Friends, Cash Cobain, and more.

Drake Lost A Huge Bet On The Toronto Maple Leafs And Jokingly Blamed The ‘Bieber Curse’

Sometimes you win a million bucks, sometimes you lose a million bucks. Or at least you do if you’re Drake.

The “Nokia” rapper placed $1.25 million on the Toronto Maple Leafs to win game 7 of the Eastern Conference Second Round against the Florida Panthers on Sunday (May 18). But unfortunately for Drake, his hometown hockey team lost 6 to 1. “Bieber curse…” he joked in an Instagram Story following the game, a reference to both fellow Canadian Justin Bieber and the so-called “Drake curse.”

According to the shockingly thorough The Drake Curse website, this is the 10th time Drake has bet at least $1 million on a single game/match — he’s won 7 out of 10 times. I also learned that he’s placed bets on 10 different sports, including tennis, F1, and cricket. No Jai alai yet, though.

As for Bieber, a self-declared “slut” for the Maple Leafs, he shared his thoughts on the team’s season coming to an early end on Instagram. “I don’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t been obsessed with the leafsssss,” he wrote. “This year we made it farther than we have in so long and im happy about that. I can be patient cuz I know this is the team to do it.”

Will There Be A ‘Peaky Blinders’ Spin Off Series After The Movie?

peaky-blinders-trio-lg
BBC/Netflix

The upcoming Peaky Blinders movie is on the way to a streaming device (via Netflix and BBC) near you. This will happen without Arthur Shelby and a few other familiar faces as the gang heads maneuvers against the WWII backdrop, but series creator Steven Knight is already looking ahead to what comes after Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Shelby comes together with a new generation.

Does this involve the persistent whispers of a spin off? Well, the Immortal Man movie has finished production, as acknowledged by Netflix, which hasn’t revealed recent updates on more, although BBC did (much earlier this year) cover Knight’s remarks about how the saga would have life after the film. Yet the chatter has started again with Knight seemingly unable to resist continued teasing, so let’s update the situation as it currently stands.

Will There Be A Peaky Blinders Spin Off Series?

Yes, according to Knight, who confirmed to Birmingham Live that a new (sequel) series will happen and will (like the movie) shoot in Birmingham, England. The story will pick in a post-WWII setting (the 1950s). Knight wasn’t subtle in providing this information while flat-out declaring, “There is a new series.”

The series will revolve around the “next generation” of the Peaky Blinders gang because historical accuracy simply does not matter here (the Blinders actually lost power to a rival gang by the 1920s), and you know what? That’s alright. We should see some sort of baton passing happen during the movie (possibly to Barry Keoghan’s character, which is rumored to be Tommy’s illegitimate son, Duke Shelby), and then it might be off to the races.

While speaking with Birmingham Live, Knight left open the possibility that Cillian could surface in the spin off, but don’t believe it until you see it. Tommy Shelby might have been awful at taking a vacation, but he can’t live forever, especially with that risky lifestyle. At any rate, we’ll learn more about the Shelby fam’s future when the Peaky movie (co-starring new faces Tim Roth and Rebecca Ferguson) touches down on Netflix and BBC later this year.

Will There Be A ‘Dark Winds’ Season 4 On AMC?

dark-winds-season-4-lg
AMC

AMC’s Dark Winds grew its viewership (gaining more exposure on Netflix didn’t hurt) for the third season of the stellar crime drama. As inspired by Tony Hillerman’s Sinister Pig and Dance Hall of the Dead novels, the series leaned hard into horror as Joe Leaphorn (Zahn McClarnon) grappled with a mythological monster while tackling a case of two missing Navajo boys. Meanwhile, he was still feeling domino effects from his son’s death and his subsequent handling of the B.J. Vines situation, which was causing untenable friction at home with wife Emma (Deanna Allison).

After an eventful season finale, at least Leaphorn can consider himself freed of the B.J. Vines investigation, although his marriage appears to be a permanent casualty. Meanwhile, that Border Patrol gig for Bernadette Manuelito (Jessica Matten) did not go as planned, and she resurfaced at the Navajo reservation, a development that sets up more questions regarding herself and Jim Chee (Kiowa Gordon). Plenty more Hillerman stories about these characters are also waiting to be told, so of course that opens up a pressing question.

Will There Be A Dark Winds Season 4?

For sure. Variety first broke the news of AMC running with a renewal back in March ahead of the third season premiere. Zahn McClarnon will debut as director for the forth season premiere, and George R.R. Martin will surely remain thrilled about his most satisfying TV producing gig in several years.

The next season will be based upon Tony Hillerman’s The Ghostway novel, and showrunner John Wirth revealed to Collider that another Navajo cultural tradition will come to the forefront:

It deals with the Navajo experience of ghost sickness, which has to do with what happens to a person, in their tradition, if they are exposed to a dead body or if they’re with a person when the person dies. I’m not a Navajo, and I’m not an expert in all things Navajo, but my understanding is, if you are with a person when they breathe their last breath, that breath goes into you, and you become ghost sick, which requires a ceremony to cure you of ghost sickness.”

The fourth season is currently in the thick of filming with McClarnon telling Variety that he has “already done my director’s cut for the [premiere] episode.” Fingers crossed for a 2026 return of Dark Winds.

TiaCorine’s Eye-Popping ‘Ironic’ Video Stars An Impressive Rube-Goldberg Machine

2023 XXL Freshman TiaCorine has since become one of hip-hop’s must-watch artists. After collaborating with top names like Denzel Curry and Latto, the anime-inspired North Carolina native has begun making a name for herself with standout videos for songs like “Bonnet,” “Different Colored Stones,” and now, her latest, “Ironic.”

Produced by Kenny Beats, “Ironic” finds TiaCorine flexing in her trademark, laid-back-but-aggressive flow. “Let’s get fly and smoke some chronic / That sh*t be so ironic, everything I do iconic / I don’t need it, I just want it / Everything I do one-hunnid / You see us money thumbin’ / Everytime I come through stuntin’,” she brags on the hook.

In the Lyrical Lemonade-produced video, Freaky T employs a trippy Rube-Goldberg machine to make a cup of tea, hangs out in the bathroom with her friends, and balances atop a building emblazoned with the song title while showing off her grills. T’s makeup is the star of the show with its nods to the Japanese art of kintsugi, which repairs broken pottery with gold and silver lacquer to preserve and highlight where the original piece was broken and repaired. The idea is to highlight the object’s history; likewise, the Japanese-American TiaCorine often highlights her own history and heritage in her music.

Tia hasn’t announced a new album just yet, but you have to think one is on the way if she’s releasing all these singles. Stay tuned.

Mark Hoppus Reminisces About Blink-182 And Green Day’s Early-2000s Rivalry: ‘It Definitely Made Us A Better Band’

Green Day’s origins stretch farther back than Blink-182’s, but ultimately, both groups would be defining pop-punk bands of the early 2000s. There was a stretch during that time, though, where there was a friendly(ish) rivalry between the groups.

In an interview with NME, Blink’s Mark Hoppus spoke about the experience of Green Day opening for Blink on the Pop Disaster Tour, saying, “That was very strange because I grew up listening to Green Day. I literally waited for the day that Dookie came out, and I was in line waiting to buy it. I was a huge fan, then we’re touring with them, but it was a weird thing where Green Day were dipping at the time and Blink were ascendent. We were billed as co-headliners, but Blink were closing every night, and that was a strange sensation for us. Headlining over your idols is a little strange.”

He went on to speak about the sort-of-friendly competition between the two groups:

“We showed up, we thought we were cool, we had a No. 1 record [Take Off Your Pants And Jacket], we were the first punk band to ever have a No. 1 record, Green Day were on their way down for a little bit. We walked in thinking we were hot sh*t and Green Day walked in ready to fight — musically of course, they were super cool to us the whole time.

My wife and Billie [Joe Armstrong]’s wife were great friends. Billie was super nice to us. Then, when it came time to get on stage… It’s like athletes: We could be on different teams, but when we get on the field, we’re going to try and kick your ass.

We didn’t come with that attitude, but they did. They blew us off the stage the first few nights and we were like, ‘Oh sh*t, we have to up our game.’ Then it was this battle back-and-forth about who could put on the better show and who could win people over. It definitely made us a better band. I think I inspired them so much they were like, ‘We have to kill Blink-182 with an awesome album called American Idiot.’”

Over the weekend, Post Malone and Jelly Roll’s Big Ass Stadium Tour rolled into Detroit, Michigan, where they were joined by a local legend. No, not Tim Robinson, although with Friendship out in theaters, you never know. No, it was Eminem, who joined Jelly Roll for a performance of “Lose Yourself.”

“If you can’t tell, that was a childhood dream come f*cking true, Detroit,” Jelly Roll told the sold-out Ford Field crowd, according to Billboard. “This is the greatest show I’ve ever had in my f*king life.” He added that Eminem’s music “helped me through the darkest moments of my life.”

This isn’t the first time Jelly Roll has talked about how much Slim means to him. “It’s by far the most unreal thing that’s happened in my career yet,” he said on the Spout Podcast about collaborating with the rapper on his 2024 album The Death Of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce). “There are probably five people on Earth I’d meet that I would be jittery around. It’d be [Garth] Brooks, James Taylor, Bob Seger, and Eminem. People I grew up knowing every word of every song they’ve ever released.”

Connie Francis Had One Question After Learning Her 1962 Song ‘Pretty Little Baby’ Is A Viral Hit On TikTok: ‘What’s That?’

If you’re a TikTok user, you’ve probably heard Connie Francis’ 1962 song “Pretty Little Baby” recently, as it’s been going viral on the platform. Francis, now 87 years old, recently caught wind of her renewed success, and initially, she wasn’t quite sure what to make of it.

In response to a Billboard article about the song, Francis wrote on Facebook:

“My thanks to TikTok and its members for the wonderful, and oh so unexpected, reception given to my 1961 recording ‘Pretty Little Baby’. The first I learned of it was when [Concetta Records president Ron Roberts] called to advise me that I had ‘a viral hit’.

Clearly out of touch with present day music statistics terminology, my initial response was to ask: ‘What’s that?’

Thank you everyone!”

As Billboard notes, the song, a non-single from the 1962 album Connie Francis Sings Second Hand Love, has been heard in many TikTok videos featuring users lip-syncing along to the lyrics, “You can ask the flowers / I sit for hours / Telling all the bluebirds / The bill and coo birds / Pretty little baby, I’m so in love with you.”

During the week ending April 10, the song had about 17,000 official on-demand US streams a week, but more recently, it rose to 2.4 million. The publication notes the streams continue to rise and the track could make its Hot 100 debut.

It wouldn’t be Francis’ first chart hit, as she has three No. 1 hits to her name: “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool,” “My Heart Has A Mind Of Its Own” (both in 1960), and “Don’t Break The Heart That Loves You” (1962).
