Well, It Looks Like Trump Really Did Run Off With Material Pertaining To Nuclear Secrets After All

Trump cronies have had a bear of a time trying to defend him amidst the Justice Department investigation into all the highly classified material he took with him to Mar-a-Lago. Now it’s getting somehow even worse for him: Sources tell The Washington Post that among the over 300 documents that have been seized from his current abode, one pertains to another country’s nuclear capabilities.

It’s not been revealed, obviously, what that nation is. But the document appears to be among the most high-level security risks of the documents Trump took down to the resort in which he now lives. To get a sense of the seriousness of Trump’s alleged actions, consider this:

Some of the seized documents detail top-secret U.S. operations so closely guarded that many senior national security officials are kept in the dark about them. Only the president, some members of his Cabinet or a near-Cabinet-level official could authorize other government officials to know details of these special-access programs, according to people familiar with the search, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive details of an ongoing investigation.

Indeed, such documents, the Post reports, “require special clearances on a need-to-know basis, not just top-secret clearance.” They are also “kept under lock and key, almost always in a secure compartmented information facility, with a designated control officer to keep careful tabs on their location.”

And yet there was a document about nuclear secrets, located in Mar-a-Lago under questionable — by some reports incredibly lax — security.

A week-and-a-half ago, Trump tried to play chicken with the DoJ, daring them to release the secretive affidavit that led to the FBI search of Mar-a-Lago. When they released a heavily redacted version, Trump did a questionable victory lap, noting that the word “nuclear” hadn’t appeared anywhere. And yet here we are. But we’re sure Trump will tell his side of the story on his possibly dying Twitter clone.

That ‘Call Me By Your Name’ Sequel May Still Be Happening, But It Will Only Include One Of The Main Twosome (Guess Which)

Indies don’t often get sequels (though they sometimes do), but as you may recall, there was serious talk that Call Me by Your Name might get another round. Then, well, something happened with one of the stars. But a year and a half after all the Armie Hammer mishegoss went public, there’s still hope for a follow-up. It just won’t feature Oliver and Elio sharing another peach.

In a new interview with IndieWire, director Luca Guadagnino reveals that he still wants to do Call Me by Your Name 2. Thing is, it almost certainly won’t be called anything like that. For one thing, Guadgnino doesn’t like a certain movie trend.

“A sequel is an American concept,” Guadagnino grumbled. Besides, it will only focus on one of the main characters. See if you can guess which one. “It’s more like the chronicles of Elio,” he said, referring to the character played by Timothée Chalamet, in what proved his breakout turn. As such the film, should it get made, would be the “chronicles of this young boy becoming a man. It is something I want to do.”

As it happens, Guadagnino is at the Telluride Film Festival, where he’s doing press for Bones and All, another movie with Chalamet where the actor plays a fine young cannibal. The film was announced around the same time that allegations about Hammer’s life were being lodged, including that he engaged in some disturbing cannibal talk. So much has changed since then.

Patrick Beverley On Playing With LeBron And AD: ‘They’re Gonna Be Playing With Me, I Made The Playoffs Last Year, They Didn’t’

The Los Angeles Lakers added some much needed three-point shooting and defensive bite when they pulled off a deal to acquire Patrick Beverley from the Utah Jazz. Beverley played an important role in helping the Minnesota Timberwolves make the postseason through the play-in tournament last year, and even though he has not always seen eye-to-eye with Russell Westbrook in the past, he seems ready to let bygones be bygones and focus on contributing to the Lakers.

Of course, L.A. can use Beverley’s help in making it to the playoffs — the team missed out on the play-in tournament altogether due to an old and disjointed roster mixing with some absolutely horribly timed injuries. This was top of mind for Beverley when he was asked about teaming up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis on Tuesday after he was formally introduced as a Laker.

“They’re gonna be playing with me,” Beverley said. “I made the playoffs last year, they didn’t. It’s a difference.”

Beverley then changed up his approach when asked about whether or not he has spoken to those two, saying that “I’m glad that we get to play with each other than anything else, I’m excited to see it go on.” As long as the Lakers make the playoffs, our hunch is James, Davis, and everyone else will likewise be excited to see it go on.

‘I felt ill’: Brendan Fraser describes sexual assault that nearly made him quit acting

This story originally appeared on 08.06.19

Remember Brendan Fraser? 10 years ago, he was one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Then, he suddenly disappeared.

If you were a kid in the late ’90s and early ’00s, chances are you saw a Brendan Fraser movie. The comedy and action star catapulted to fame behind blockbusters like “The Mummy” franchise, “George of the Jungle,” “Looney Tunes: Back in Action,” and the Oscar-winning film “Crash.”

But after 2008, he largely disappeared from major starring roles. His absence wasn’t due to drugs, a sex-scandal, or illness — despite memes and even reported articles speculating about his career arc, with many blaming it on poor career choices.

Fraser revealed in a recent interview that an incident of sexual harassment led him to withdraw from his high-profile lifestyle.

Lately, the actor has gradually returned to more high-profile roles, and in an interview with GQ, he explained that the real reason he stepped back from the spotlight was because of being physically groped by Philip Berk, a former president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

In his own book, Berk admitted to “pinching” Fraser in the buttocks after an event, but Fraser says the incident was much worse. “His left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around.”

“I felt ill. I felt like a little kid,” he told GQ. “I felt like there was a ball in my throat. I thought I was going to cry.”

He said it’s time to speak out, and other male victims of harassment are supporting him.

Berk has called the allegation a “total fabrication” but acknowledges he sent Fraser an apology letter after the incident when the actor complained to the HFPA. Fraser said he tried to bury his feelings about the incident, but he was moved into action after seeing actresses and actors speaking up at this year’s Golden Globes.

“Am I still frightened? Absolutely. Do I feel like I need to say something? Absolutely. Have I wanted to many, many times? Absolutely. Have I stopped myself? Absolutely.”

Despite his reservations, people seem to believe, and be genuinely moved by, Fraser’s claim. Once the target of jokes, Fraser has become a catalyst for moving praise across social media.

He’s also earned some public support from actor Terry Crews, who has publicly discussed experiencing a similar incident years ago.

“Brendan is amazingly courageous in telling this,” Crews wrote on Twitter. “His assault experience is extremely similar to mine — ending with the assailant explaining away his actions. One man’s ‘horseplay’ is another man’s humiliation.”

Victims of sexual harassment and assault often face deep shame and fear in speaking out. Speaking out takes courage.

Speaking out after experiencing harassment or assault can be an incredible challenge, often full of personal and professional risk. Though the majority of assaults are against women, men face their own similar challenges in overcoming shame, doubt, and repercussions for coming forward and speaking out. When men like Fraser and Crews speak out, they help clear the path for other men to come forward with their own stories.

We’re Comparing Two New Barrel Proof Bourbons, Just In Time For Fall

Summer 2022 is pretty much behind us. In the whiskeys world, that means the whiskey drops are about to start hitting at a nearly non-stop pace. One of the biggest signs that the fall whiskey season is here are two releases from Heaven Hill Distillery out in Bardstown, Kentucky — the final 2022 releases of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and Larceny Barrel Proof.

Every year, Heaven Hill releases three barrel-proof interactions of both their Larceny and Elijah Craig whiskeys. The first ones arrive in late winter, then another set comes in early spring. Finally, the last duo tends to arrive just as summer closes and the spiders start spinning their webs. The whiskeys are the ultimate sign that it’s time to dust off the rake and pour some strong whiskey.

Below, I’ll review each barrel-proof edition so you can decide which one you’re going to stock up on as the leaves start piling up. For the most part, these will be a little harder to find but not impossible. And while these run around $69 MSRP, you will find a few markups here and there — but these bottles rarely go over $100-$120 on the aftermarket. In short, we’re talking about great whiskey that you can both find (with a little effort), afford, and enjoy right now.

Okay, let’s dive into what’s actually in these bottles.

Larceny Barrel Proof Batch no. C922

Larceny Barrel Proof
Heaven Hill

ABV: 63.3%

Average Price: $102

The Whiskey:

This is the last (of three) Larceny Barrel Proof releases of 2022. The juice is a classic wheated bourbon — 68 percent corn, 20 percent wheat, and 12 percent malted barley. This bourbon was aged for six to eight years before small-batch vatting and bottling as-is, creating 2022’s highest ABV release from the brand.

Tasting Notes:

This pour opens with a hint of soft leather next to raisins, sour grapes, a dash of apple fritter with plenty of cinnamon, and a mild sense of dried red currants. The palate hits with an ABV buzz (kind of like the numbness you get from wasabi without the taste at all) before soft vanilla creaminess calms everything down toward berry jams with cinnamon and clove next to a light buttermilk biscuit with a hint of dry sweetgrass lurking under it all. The end softly lands on a dried prune/date/raisin finish with a twinge of tartness and a light sense of cedar-laced tobacco just touched with cardamon and vanilla.

Bottom Line:

This is a solid pour with a hell of a kick. It’ll clear your sinuses. But it’s so much more than that. There’s a real depth of flavor under that heat that’s classic and rewarding.

My recommendation, pour this over a rock or two to cool it down and let those deeper flavors bloom. Or mix this into your next Manhattan and enjoy a spicy and creamy ride.

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch no. C922

Elijah Craig Barrel Proof
Heaven Hill

ABV: 62.48%

Average Price: $120

The Whiskey:

The last Elijah Craigh of 2022 is also the highest-proof release this year. The whiskey is made from a very low rye bourbon mash bill of 78 percent corn, ten percent rye, and 12 percent malted barley. That juice then ages for at least 12 years before the barrels are vatted in very small batches and bottled without proofing or filtration.

Tasting Notes:

The nose opens with a deep leatheriness with a bright line of green hatch chilis next to a warm sense of dry powdered dark chocolate and dried sour cherries with an underlying dry earthiness and this tiny whisper of sourdough starter. The palate opens with a hint of peach before kicking in some serious ABV buzziness and heat and then quickly rollercoastering down toward cinnamon and clove-laced dark chocolate, dark caramel, apple chips soaked in root beer, and a hint of clove and orange. The end has a mild sense of dry sweetgrass and plenty of heat that gives way to an echo of that cinnamon and dark chocolate with a smidge of smoldering cacao husks and cinnamon bark.

Bottom Line:

This is so interesting. I was not expecting dark chocolate, chili, and cinnamon to be such a driving force. This is night-and-day from the classic vibes of this year’s first Elijah Craig Barrel Proof, which was a stone-cold classic bourbon. This is dirty and earthy, spicy and dark, deep and kind of haunting — a great and unique whiskey.

Which to Buy?

I really thought I’d be recommending you chase down that Larceny. I just didn’t think the good folks at Elijah Craig could beat the A122 Barrel Proof from January. And I do really like the Larceny. It’s so much fruitier and woodier with a nice balance of heat and flavor. But it feels a tad hotter and I definitely was thinking about rocks and cocktails while sipping it.

With the new Elijah Craig, I wasn’t thinking about anything but finding more nuance and depth in that glass in my hand. I can see folks not digging this at all thanks to the dark earthy notes and spiced chocolate vibe — it’s not your average bourbon. But, wow, this stuff is a delightful departure from the norm that takes you on a journey and really tastes like something special.

So, if you’re spending $70 to $90 on one of these Barrel Proof bourbons this fall, I have to say, go with the Elijah Craig. It’s too unique and delicious not to try.

Steve Lacy Wants ‘Bad Habit’ To Dethrone Harry Styles’s ‘As It Was’ On The ‘Billboard’ Hot 100 Chart

Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit” is not just a ridiculously infectious song, it’s also one of the biggest songs this year. The Gemini Rights single has taken over TikTok ever since it came out, and even with summer ending, the hype around it still hasn’t relented. In fact, it’s threatening to dethrone Harry Styles’s massive “As It Was” from its No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, which is the longest-running No. 1 single of the decade.

Lacy knows this, and today on his Instagram story, he called for his fans to take action. He posted a screenshot of the chart and added text over it: “ok ermmmm ima need this #1!!!!!! as it was? nah AS IT NEED TO BE,” he wrote, adding some laughing faces.

Other musicians are noticing Lacy’s takeover as well. Today, SZA tweeted, “Steve Lacy being number 2 rn is so f*cking important. Faith restored.”

Unfortunately, Lacy’s fame has some downsides, at least for fans. His tour is selling out fast, with the $35 tickets flying off the shelves almost immediately. Fans took to TikTok using his song “Static” as background to their complaints, with his most devout followers voiced their grievances with him and Ticketmaster about the size of the venues he’s set to play at and the over 300% markup on resale tickets.

DJ Quik Recalls The Crazy Weekend Behind His Hit ‘Tonite’ And Shares His Favorite Hangover Cures

DJ Quik was the guest on People’s Party with Talib Kweli last week and he told a fantastic origin story of “Tonite,” the breakout hit from his 1991 debut album Quik Is the Name. In their sprawling — and story filled! — convo, Quik explained to Kweli and co-host Jasmin Leigh that the song was based on a real-life three-day party weekend he threw when he was only 18.

“That record made itself” Quick says. “I looped the beat, and we lived for a weekend while it played just on repeat on the SP 1200- in the little kitchen nook.”

Though the beat was ready, Quik wasn’t resolved on the lyrics and figured they would come to him as the weekend progressed. As the house party continued, he rotated in songs by En Vogue and Digital Underground, along with other jams from the era. After swimming in a sea of Super-Socko and gin (the original gin and juice for LA hood folks) he awakened to a frightening hangover from the night befor — knowing instantly he’d overdone it.

“I end up rappin’ a song about that whole weekend,” Quik continues. “Like Friday morning til Sunday. Prayin’ to God like ‘I’ll never drink again!’ It was Friday night when I had the hangover — here’s Saturday night and everybody had so much fun they’re like ‘Hey man we’re coming back over!’”

From there Kweli, Leigh, and DJ Quik have a hilarious conversation about various cures for hangovers. Everything from chef Anthony Bourdain’s favorite hangover cure to hood remedies are debated.

Listen to DJ Quik talk about his life as one of hip-hop’s most celebrated producers on People’s Party with Talib Kweli on Luminary or watch the full episode below.

Charlie Puth Shares A Steamy Thirst Trap On Social Media

It’s a big year for Charlie Puth who has been previewing his new album Charlie with emotional singles like “Light Switch” and “Smells Like Me.” Along with being a pop phenomenon, last year he was one of the most-viewed musician accounts on TikTok. His social media accounts are always buzzing, but especially today after he posted a steamy thirst trap.

The picture is an intimate selfie where all he’s wearing is underwear and a headband. It’s quite revealing, and immediately went very viral, as he probably expected.

About his forthcoming LP, Puth wrote on Instagram, “This album was born on the internet, and I’ve had so much fun making it in front of all of you this past year. 2019 me used to think that in order to be an artist, you had to hide away and talk to nobody to make your art. Turns out you make MUCH better art when you involve millions of people in the process. (For me at least.) I hope you scream cry every word when I sing these songs on tour because they wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you.”

Charlie is out 10/7 via Atlantic. Pre-order it here.

Charlie Puth is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
