Nikki Glaser Burned A Whole Bunch Of Politicians (On Both Sides) In Her ‘Speed Roast’ Monologue For ‘Kimmel’

Comedian Nikki Glaser filled in as the final guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Thursday night, and she clearly wasn’t going to waste an opportunity to burn almost every politician in Washington from both sides of the aisle. During her monologue, Glaser unveiled a little segment she called “Nikki’s Speed Roast” where she went to town on everyone from Donald Trump to Nancy Pelosi and all points in between. Not even Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were safe. By the time Glaser was done, she had hit over a dozen politicians, and here’s a taste of what she said about each of them:

Donald Trump: “What can you say about Donald Trump that he hasn’t already heard at this point? Oh I know, ‘yes, I’d love to have sex with you.’”

Joe Biden: “Joe Biden he’s so old – he had COVID 1.”

Mike Pence: “Mike Pence is so boring and white CBS just picked him up for three more seasons.”

Kamala Harris: “Listen, I know we’re having fun, but on a serious note I do want to say: Kamala Harris is still missing. And if you have any information on her whereabouts please contact her parents they miss her.”

Lindsey Graham: “He looks like the head of a group called Grandmothers Against Interracial Marriage.”

Nancy Pelosi: “Okay, it would be easy to make a joke about Nancy Pelosi’s looks, but I actually think the embalmers did a really good job so I’m not gonna go there.”

Mitch McConnell: “Good ‘ol scrotum neck.”

Pete Buttigieg: “What a trailblazer this guy is. He proves that just because you’re gay, does not mean you’re cool.”

Matt Gaetz: “Look at him. What a ladies man, right. No, I’m sorry, I mean what a child’s man.”

Bernie Sanders: “Bernie Sanders looks like the guy you sit next to on a southwest flight who eats hard boiled eggs out of a plastic bag.”

Rudy Giuliani: “Rudy Guiliani, 9/11 was your shining achievement, and now it’s your blood alcohol level.”

Ted Cruz: “Everything is bigger in Texas except your sad, soggy penis.”

And finally, Glaser went especially hard on Marjorie Taylor Greene: “Marjorie Taylor Greene is proof that the left and the right really can come together. I mean, just look at her eyes. I actually appreciate this woman, because now I know what it would look like if I had a daughter with Mickey Rourke.”

‘Samaritan’ Is Sylvester Stallone’s Remarkably Lazy Attempt At A Comic Book Movie

Samaritan makes a half-hearted case for the viability of Sylvester Stallone as a comic book superhero, but not for itself as a viable movie. Samaritan, (written by Bragi F. Schut, directed by Julius Avery, hitting Prime Video August 26th) feels a little like the comic book version of “Cleaver,” the horror movie conceived by Christopher Moltisanti in The Sopranos — a concept dreamed up by a grandiose producer and executed by hired gun creatives, with varying levels of buy-in on the concept.

The saturated cinematography is, well, at least a choice, and Sly, still filming fight scenes as a super strong old man at the age of 76, is occasionally compelling, but the casting is disastrous and the dialogue has the distinct flavor of a late homework assignment.

In a lengthy opening animation sequence (giving Samaritan the feel of having been pulled from a comic book even though it’s not) we learn that 25 years ago, two super-powered vigilante brothers, Samaritan, who fights to save humanity from their darker impulses, and his brother, Nemesis, who fights to punish humanity for their darker impulses, died in a climactic battle with each other. Or so we thought!

This is basically a Cliff’s Notes, genericized version of the central conflict in X-Men — where Professor X was the conciliatory leader of mutant superheroes and Magneto was his militant, terroristic foil, as an allegory for Martin Luther King and Malcolm X in the Civil Rights movement. Should we try to change the system from the inside or tear it down and start all over? Or do we just say to hell with it and punch each other for a while? We love more generic versions of stories we already know, don’t we, folks?

It’s probably not much of a spoiler to reveal that Stallone, topline-billed star of the movie Samaritan, plays the older, garbageman-in-a-green-hoodie version of the superhero Samaritan. No one knows his secret, but one kid, Sam, played by Javon “Wanna” Walton has some suspicions. Sam, like virtually everything else in this Nickelback song of a script, is sort of a stock character, the superhero “fanboy” who knows, and believes in, the hero more than the hero does himself.

Walton, best known for playing “Ashtray” in Euphoria, is about the worst choice imaginable for this role. Everything that makes him a good choice to play the younger brother of a xanny-addled, mumble-mouthed drug dealer in a spiritual ripoff of Kids works against him as the starry-eyed, voluble sidekick of a superhero in whatever Samaritan is supposed to be. Walton, a boxer and gymnast before he was discovered as an actor (the one scene of him shadow boxing is far more impressive than anything else he does, the kid very clearly has hands) seems solid at projecting silent menace. He evokes the sullen, jaded air of having seen too much for someone his age. Basically, the exact opposite qualities of the precocious, verbose, naively optimistic bullied fanboy they’re asking him to play here. His scenes are essentially a cacophony of sour notes, and he gets the most screen time of any actor in Samaritan.

Not that Samaritan‘s dialogue is doing Walton any favors either. At one point, Sam takes his suspicions about Samaritan’s true identity to the local nerd, played by the great Martin Starr in his 90 seconds of screen time. “Look, kid, I’m a journalist,” Starr says. “An intellectual.”

“I know!” says Sam. “I love your work!”

What even is this dialogue? Was the screenwriter being chased? Most of the words in the Samaritan script consist of exactly this kind of brutally utilitarian exposition, feeling like it was improvised on the fly, the kinds of things porn actors say to establish the basic facts of the scene before they commence with the fucking.

The big question for the makers of Samaritan is, which part was supposed to be the fucking? Was it Sylvester Stallone as a superhero? Pilou Asbaek (Euron Greyjoy) as the villain with a snake tattooed on his head? The steak is readily apparent in Samaritan but you’ll spend the whole movie searching in vain for the sizzle. Usually when you overtly acknowledge the tropes and standard story beats in a movie like this, it’s for some purpose, some comment about what we like about or what it means to be a comic book movie. Samaritan is really none of that, it’s more like discount comic book movie slurry.

And with an occasional whiff of weird politics. Asbaek’s bad guy, naturally, idolizes Nemesis, who he says “hurt people who deserved to be hurt,” and “always punched up.” When he inspires roving gangs of looters, it’s hard to wonder if Samaritan is meant as some kind of broadside against the woke mobs Fox News convinces its viewers have destroyed liberal cities.

Which, honestly, fine. Stallone has spent most of his entire career making wonderfully enjoyable action flicks out of reactionary politics. Samaritan, for better or worse (worse), isn’t even close to that coherent.

‘Samaritan’ hits Prime Video August 26th. Vince Mancini is on Twitter. You can access his archive of reviews here.

Danny DeVito Live-Tweeted The Premiere Of His New Show, But His Tweets Are More Enjoyable (And Deranged) Without Context

Danny DeVito‘s Twitter account is more than just photos of his “trollfoot.” It’s also him tweeting about boiling babies and fisting dogs. To promote the premiere of Little Demon, a new animated series on FXX starring DeVito, his daughter Lucy, and Aubrey Plaza, the It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star live-tweeted the first two episodes. The thing is, he didn’t explain what was he doing or put the tweets in a thread or include a #LittleDemon hashtag, which is how live-tweeting usually works, so, as one follower put it, “he looks like he’s becoming unhinged out of context.” Like so:

Other highlights include “Don’t f*ck with the Antichrist,” “Raise your hand if you f*cked the devil,” and “I’d rather fist a dog than be in a relationship. Piss my pants!” That’s not DeVito’s best tweet — “Antonin Scalia retire bitch” is the GOAT — but it’s up there.

Legend. DeVito told us what it’s like to play Satan in Little Demon. “Well, it’s complex. There are so many things coming at me [Satan], whether it’s demons who want my sh*t, or the realms, hell and temptations, and things that I’ve got to deal with in a Tony Soprano way, where there’s a lot of people gunning for me,” he said. “But needing allies is a real big thing. And when I fall head over heels, which is not hard to imagine, for [Aubrey Plaza’s character]. [Satan has] had many women.”

You can watch the first two episodes of Little Demon on Hulu.

Olivia Wilde Claims She Fired Shia LaBeouf From ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ To ‘Protect’ Florence Pugh, But He Says That He Quit

Don’t Worry Darling was originally supposed to star Florence Pugh and Shia LaBeouf, not Harry Styles. But director Olivia Wilde claims that the Honey Boy actor, who was accused of “relentless abuse” by his ex-girlfriend FKA twigs, was fired from the movie (and replaced with Harry Styles) to “protect” Pugh. “I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work,” she explained. “His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions. He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances.”

LaBeouf responded to Wilde’s comments by saying he wasn’t fired from Don’t Worry Darling, he quit. “The actor forwarded two emails he claims to have sent to Wilde on Aug. 24 and Aug. 25 after the story was published,” Variety reports. “In the emails, LaBeouf wrote, ‘You and I both know the reasons for my exit. I quit your film because your actors and I couldn’t find time to rehearse.’ Variety has learned that the texts were sent before the production learned what Shia’s immersive method entailed.”

According to the texts, LaBeouf and Wilde met in person in Los Angeles to discuss his exit from the film on Aug. 16, 2020. Later that night, Wilde texted him, “Thanks for letting me in on your thought process. I know that isn’t fun. Doesn’t feel good to say no to someone, and I respect your honesty. I’m honored you were willing to go there with me, for me to tell a story with you. I’m gutted because it could have been something special. I want to make clear how much it means to me that you trust me. That’s a gift I’ll take with me.”

LaBeouf supposedly quit the next day. Two days later, Wilde sent him a video, recorded in her car, in which she “alludes to tension between LaBeouf and Florence Pugh, who stars as Alice, the wife of LaBeouf and Styles’ character Jack,” according to Variety.

Variety also published an email that LaBeouf sent to Wilde, which ends, “Firing me never took place, Olivia. And while I fully understand the attractiveness of pushing that story because of the current social landscape, the social currency that brings. It is not the truth. So I am humbly asking, as a person with an eye toward making things right, that you correct the narrative as best you can. I hope none of this negatively effects you, and that your film is successful in all the ways you want it to be.” You can read it here.

Don’t Worry Darling hits theaters on September 23, even if it feels like it’s already been out for years.

The Biden White House Is Trolling Majorie Taylor Greene, Matt Gaetz, And Other Republicans Complaining About Student Loan Forgiveness

Whereas Donald Trump became known as “The Twitter President” for his penchant for vomiting up everything from childish insults to near-declarations of war in 280 words or less (well, before they permanently banned him), Joe Biden’s social media presence has been far less divisive. But the sheer hypocrisy of Republicans like Marjorie Taylor Greene, who are decrying Biden’s student loan forgiveness program as being “unfair” while benefiting from similar programs in the past, was one step too far for the Biden administration. So on Thursday, the official White House Twitter feed began simply calling those people out.

Among the individuals taken to task were Greene, who had more than $180,000 in Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans wiped out; Pennsylvania congressman Mike Kelly, who saw nearly $1 million in PPP loans erased; and Florida Man Matt Gaetz, who was bitching not about student loans, but the amount of money the U.S. is spending to help Ukraine—all while having more than $480,000 of his own PPP loans disappear.

As The Hill reports, Greene has been one of the loudest critics of Biden’s recently announced student loan plan. On Wednesday, the shouty Georgia representative was doing her thing on Newsmax, where she declared that “for our government just to say, you know, ‘Ok, well your debt is completely forgiven,’ … it’s completely unfair.”

Greene went on to argue that taxpayers “shouldn’t have to pay off the great big student loan debt for some college student that piled up massive debt going to some Ivy league school. That’s not fair.”

Some might say the same about bailing out a business owner who doesn’t know how to manage their business.

Grimes Reckons The Metaverse Is ‘Dead’ If Mark Zuckerberg Is In Charge Of It

Mark Zuckerberg continues to work on the metaverse, although recent feedback hasn’t been positive. He shared an image of an avatar that was promptly and thoroughly dragged, so much so that he quickly debuted a new one. The new image, along with other aspects of Horizon Worlds and the metaverse, haven’t quelled Grimes’ concerns, as she thinks the whole thing is doomed if Zuck is leading the way.

On Twitter today, Grimes wrote of the Facebook co-founder, “If zuck ‘oversees the Metaverse’ it is dead and people who care about art and culture are building something else. also this is bad art. The quality of this image alone speaks to how wildly under qualified he is to build alternate reality, literally every indie game looks better.”

A Twitter user responded, “Slapping AAA quality graphics onto a new tech that’s just started being created few years ago, before having most of the important systems and features in isn’t a way to go, Horizon Worlds =/= Metaverse, it’s simply here in its current form just because nothing is ready yet.” To that, Grimes replied, “aesthetics aside , they have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt they are not ethically capable of running smthn so powerful and shud not have the power they have now.”

Meanwhile, Grimes also recently used Twitter to explore her options for some unconventional cosmetic procedures.

Britney Spears Had ‘Unbelievable’ Vocal Skills Recording ‘Hold Me Closer,’ The Song’s Producer Says

For the first time in a long time, Britney Spears fans got a new song from the pop icon today, via her and Elton John’sHold Me Closer.” Also involved in the track was producer Andrew Watt, who was blown away by Spears’ vocal abilities.

In a new interview with The Guardian, Watt said:

“She’s unbelievable at layering her voice and doubling, which is one of the hardest things to do. She really pushed herself vocally. Sometimes when you produce, the greatest thing in the world you can do is say nothing, so I just let her do her thing. She’s so good at knowing when she got the right take. She took complete control. […] She kept going, ‘Nope, again, again, again.’”

He also noted that Spears was “incredibly specific” about how she wanted her vocals mixed, saying, “She was really collaborative and had really good ideas about the production. She’s an expert in music to make you dance. So many of her records are pop perfection, she worked with the greatest of all time and made timeless pop. We experimented with speeding the record up and turning certain elements of the sound up to get it pumping and make you wanna dance.”

Of first meeting Spears, he also said, “She asked me who my favorite artists were — Prince — and I asked her who hers was. She said Elton John. The song meant so much to her and you can hear it in her vocal performance. She’s singing her ass off.”

Elton John Had To Convince Britney Spears To Approve ‘Hold Me Closer’ After Recording It

At long last, Britney Spears has made her post-conservatorship return to music with “Hold Me Closer,” her and Elton John’s modernized rework of “Tiny Dancer.” John spoke about working with Spears in a new The Guardian interview, in which he notes there was some apprehension from Spears.

John said it took some convincing and reassuring for Spears to approve the song after it had been recorded:

“We had to get her to approve what she did. She’s been away so long – there’s a lot of fear there because she’s been betrayed so many times and she hasn’t really been in the public eye officially for so long. We’ve been holding her hand through the whole process, reassuring her that everything’s gonna be alright.

I’m so excited to be able to do it with her because if it is a big hit, and I think it may be, it will give her so much more confidence than she’s got already and she will realize that people actually love her and care for her and want her to be happy. That’s all anybody in their right mind would want after she went through such a traumatic time.”

He also noted, “Rehabilitation is such a wonderful thing for anybody, and I’m just crossing my fingers that this will restore her confidence in herself to get back into the studio, make more records, and realize that she is bloody good.”

Eminem Claims His Faith In God On DJ Khaled And Kanye West’s ‘Use This Gospel’ Remix On ‘God Did’

It is not every day that one hears Eminem rap on a gospel song, but, as one can imagine DJ Khaled would say, “Khaled did!” On the producer’s 13th studio album God Did, he includes a remix to Kanye West’s 2019 record “Use This Gospel” from Jesus Is King.

The track is remixed, carrying an air of early 2000s Eminem nostalgia with harder-hitting drums and slight rock influence, which makes sense as Dr. Dre produced it. Slim Shady raps about not knowing if he can hold on and putting his faith in “the Father.” It’s his usual speed raps and flow switches, but definitely, a surprising effort as he makes several religious references.

The original “Use This Gospel” featured Kenny G and Clipse, made up of Pusha T and No Malice. In September 2020, Ye tweeted his gratitude to Eminem for rapping on the record. “@Eminem THANK YOU FOR RAPPING ON THE DR DRE REMIX OF USE THIS GOSPEL I HAVW ALWAYS LOVED AND RESPECTED YOU AND IM HONORED TO HAVE YOU BLESS THIS SONG … ITS ALSO NORTH WEST’S FAVORITE KANYE WEST SONG OF ALL TIME.”

God Did released on Friday (August 26) and boasts a star-studded tracklist made up of Jay-Z, Drake, Future, Lil Baby, Lil Durk, Sza, Latto, and many more. Notably, the title track features a four-minute Hov verse plus the usual impressive performances from Lil Wayne and Rick Ross.

Check out the “Use This Gospel” remix above.

Quavo And Takeoff Team Up With Birdman For Their Latest Single, ‘Big Stunna’

Amid rumors of a split, all of the members of Migos are dropping music tonight, whether it be together, or with a bandmate, in some way, shape or form. Tonight, Offset has dropped a new single called “Code,” while Quavo and Takeoff were featured on a song called “Party All The Time” from DJ Khaled’s new album, God Did. Earlier today, Quavo and Takeoff caught fans by surprise when they announced they would drop another single tonight called “Big Stunna.”

On “Big Stunna,” Quavo and Takeoff maintain their momentum as a duo, driving fast cars and rocking expensive jewelry. Though neither of the Migos directly address the rumored split, Quavo says, “I can’t hang / Ain’t no snakes / In none of my campaign,” which might just be a subtle reference. Birdman, the number one stunna himself, lists several famous duos, including, “Bird and Wayne, Stef and Klay, Take and Quay,” the latter referring to Migos members. This may imply that Birdman considers the Migos more iconic as a duo, in a similar vein to the other aforementioned pairs.

The song’s accompanying video sees the rappers drag racing and doing donuts in luxury vehicles.

Talk about stunting!

Check out “Big Stunna” above.
