Benjamin Walker Gets Philosophical About Amazon’s ‘Rings Of Power’ And Orc Diets

There are bonafide J.R.R Tolkien fans who are cautiously optimistic about journeying back to Middle Earth via Amazon Prime Video’s Rings of Power series. There are fans of Peter Jackson’s film trilogies who are just happy to hang out with Hobbits (called Harfoots this time around) again. And then there’s Benjamin Walker.

“I’m just trying to stay calm,” he tells Uproxx before we dive into his Lord of the Rings journey – one that started when he was a kid and has somehow ended up with him playing a key character in Tolkien lore. As Gil-galad, the High King of the Elves, Walker is tasked with confronting a rising evil when we meet him in Middle Earth’s Second Age – an era largely unexplored in Tolkien’s work.

“The Middle-Earth in the Jackson films is in its adulthood,” Walker explains. “When we meet them now, in our series, they’re in their adolescence. This is the forming of Middle-Earth. These are these peoples and species figuring out who they are and what their place is.”

It’s a blank slate that comes with its own storytelling challenges but those are largely curbed thanks to showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay — Tolkien scholars in their own right – who have crafted new characters and untold origin stories that the strictest Tolkien diehards might view as sacrosanct. In reality, Payne and McKay have simply opened a new window into a familiar world for returning and prospective fans to climb through. And, as someone who grew up with Tolkien’s writing, Walker can appreciate that.

“You want to give yourself somewhere to go,” he says.

Uproxx chatted with Walker about stepping into this familiar fantasy world to try something new, the enduring relevance of Tolkien’s work, and why he thinks meat was off the menu for the Orcs in Jackson’s films.

For a lot of people watching this show, you either grew up on Tolkien or you came to him through Peter Jackson’s films. Which camp do you fall into?

For me, it was deeply tied with my childhood. The first big boy book that I ever had was from my older brother who was an avid reader — infinitely smarter than I was or will ever be. The first book he ever gave me was The Hobbit. I’ve always loved it. I loved the Peter Jackson films. I think, luckily, Tolkien’s writing is dense enough that all these different iterations can have their own lives and stand alone and be part of this huge storytelling landscape.

Gil-galad is a character briefly mentioned in those movies. He’s a centuries-old elf charged with basically running Middle-Earth’s response to this rising evil. How do you fit into those pointy ears?

Immortality is naturally the hardest part to get your head around. And these elves, in particular, are unique in that they have applied their immortality to a potentially futile undertaking, which is to protect Middle-Earth. They have the possibility to return to elvish Valhalla and sit in the light of Ilúvatar and drink Mai Tais on the beach. But instead, they’re like, ‘No, let’s hang out with the frailties of man, grumpy dwarves, and God knows what else on this disgusting, dirty lump of rock.’ And so for me, that’s what informs him, that he takes this responsibility on wholeheartedly. And it is also one of the reasons I really like him.

Do elves have a bit of hubris to them? In some of the past iterations, they come across as a bit pretentious.

Well, it’s a different level of awareness. I understand why a human would think it’s rude. I would probably find them rude, but it’s because they’re functioning on a different level. Their experience of the world around them is heightened. Their wheels are spinning so quickly. It’s like the human mind, yours and mine, we could visualize things in the millions, but then when people start talking about quantum physics and trillions and the speed of light and the size of the universe, we just kind of glaze over because our brains can’t really comprehend it. So, you have to imagine elves have no problem functioning on that level. And, to us, that might seem a bit aloof or potentially condescending, but they certainly don’t mean it that way. They’re as willing to get their hands dirty, and they also acknowledged the necessity of all the species of Middle-Earth’s values and strengths coming together.

Now I’m wondering if you’re in that mind space filming all day, how hard is it to interact with humans again?

Oh, you small-minded creatures? [laughs] No, I found it refreshing. I’ve been asked a few times, wouldn’t it be great to be immortal? And the truth is no because the prospect of seeing everyone you know and love die over and over and over … the struggle would be to fight apathy. To know that entropy is inevitable and to garner hope. How do you have your heart broken for eons and still muster the strength to fall in love again? That must be exhausting and something that lends itself to a beautiful preciousness, to the finiteness of our lives, that it really counts. If anything, studying these characters, has made me really appreciate the limited time that we have.

What makes this story relevant right now? Why go back to that well?

I mean that’s the beauty of Tolkien. It’s applicable whether or not it’s about the Cold War or climate change or about the resistance to globalization. It is universal in that sense. Because he taps into something that’s uniquely human about the viewer, which is that place between light and darkness, the place between good and evil, which makes for riveting storytelling, but also is the reason he has endured in our minds and in our culture.

Lee Pace pilfered a blade from The Hobbit films. Have you thought about what you might steal, when the time comes?

Oh, I’ve got my eye on a few things. I don’t want to give anything away, but if you know Gil-galad, he’s got some cool equipment.

We’re talking weapons.

Yeah. I’m not going to ruin anything for you.

You won’t tell me if he kicks some ass?

That’s the cool thing about Gil-galad … we meet him when he is kind of like this peacetime consigliere, but we also know his history as a warrior. Kate Hawley designed the costumes, and she made these beautifully ornate golden and pearl rings. I mean, they’re almost like something the Pope would wear. But we also layered in this other detail, which is when you form a fist they kind of interlock into these intricate, gnarly brass knuckles. That duality of him is ever-present. And in terms of the scope, the luxury is, because it’s a series, we can really be immersed in those details and really enjoy them.

There’s tension between Galadriel and Gil-galad at the beginning of the series. Does he view her as reckless, or is there a deeper rift between the two?

[I think] he understands his subjects with love in the way that a parent does. You acknowledge where your children struggle, you acknowledge where their strengths are, and you try and help them manifest the destiny where they can flourish. When we meet them, Gil-galad is wary because Galadriel is blowing on an ember and potentially spreading it and making it worse. She’s trying to put out a fire with gasoline. How do you redirect that in a positive way?

One of the biggest mysteries LOTR fans are still trying to solve comes from Jackson’s early films. At one point, an Orc Commander tells his troops that “meat is back on the menu, boys.” As a Tolkien expert, can you explain why meat was taken off the menu in the first place?

[laughs] I know what you’re getting at. I had always thought that it was about the viciousness of evil. That once we’re on top, we can truly consume. And it’s another kind of nod to Tolkien’s understanding of the consuming of the self, that destruction, and entropy. If Middle-Earth was all Mordor, it would suck. The cyclical nature of it all — that from dust we come and we are the dust.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ debuts via Amazon on September 2nd.

LeBron James Had The Time Of His Life At A Kendrick Lamar Show In Vancouver

It has been an eventful summer for LeBron James as he gets ready for his 20th season in the NBA. After some vacation time, James has been busy on the pro-am circuit, popping up at the Drew League and The CrawsOver in L.A. and Seattle, while also showing up at various gyms to work with trainers throughout the summer.

He’s also had plenty to deal with regarding his team and their future, as he signed a two-year extension earlier this month and has been pushing behind the scenes for the Lakers front office to make more moves to turn the roster into a real contender. While the Lakers continue trying to appease those desires, most recently trading for Patrick Beverley and there still being the expectation Russell Westbrook is moved, James made a trip up to Vancouver with his wife, Savannah, for a little R&R.

On that trip, the James popped in to Kendrick Lamar’s stop on the Big Steppers Tour and other fans took some videos of LeBron and Savannah having the time of their lives dancing and singing along.

Kendrick appreciated the love from the James family and gave the couple a shoutout during the performance, ensuring the entire crowd knew the King was in the building.

During a break, the crowd broke into full on MVP chants for LeBron.

LeBron’s love of music is well known and he had such a good time at the show that he had to tweet some special appreciation to the city of Vancouver for all the love in his first visit to British Columbia and to Kendrick for putting on a great show.

James Gunn Keeps A ‘Long List Of Actors’ He’ll Never Work With: ‘Life’s Too Short For A**holes’

As a prolific Twitter user, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn doesn’t pull any punches when it comes to talking to fans online (or telling off Dilbert creator Scott Adams). Short of revealing Marvel and/or DC Comics secrets, Gunn is as candid as it gets when it comes to answering fans’ questions.

During a recent impromptu Q&A, the writer/director was asked how he handles recasting an actor. Does he give them a “chance or two” or is he a “quick trigger” on swapping them out? According to Gunn, it’s a little bit of both. However, he’s learned to start the whole process early by keeping a long list of actors he’ll never work with, regardless of their fame level.

“If it’s their temperament & it’s serious, I’ll immediately recast,” Gunn answered. “Life’s too short for a**holes. Same if they’re repeatedly very late, which I hate, or unprepared. I have a long list of actors, A-list & otherwise, I’ll never work with for these reason.” He added, “But if it’s performance related, & they’re putting their all into it, I’ll do everything on my end to make it work until it’s absolutely clear the quality of the project will be perceivably harmed if we don’t recast. This can happen with really talented actors who just don’t fit.”

While praising Peacemaker star John Cena, who quickly became one of the actors that Gunn loves working with, the writer/director revealed that he does his research before making any hiring decision, actor or otherwise, to avoid hiring “jerks.”

“I always do due diligence on actors & production heads with directors, actors, producers & crew members I trust,” Gunn tweeted. “If it checks out they’re jerks (not just cranky or curmudgeons but actual jerks) or irresponsible I don’t hire them. Some actors I already know never to even consider.”

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 rocks into theaters on May 25, 2023.

Trump Reportedly Found One Of His Lawyers, Who Has The Most On-The-Nose Last Name Imaginable, While Watching TV

Better Call Saul? More like better call Trusty.

Donald Trump was reportedly having trouble hiring an experienced legal team, any experienced legal team, after the FBI raided his Mar-a-Lago compound and seized “11 sets of classified records,” including some labeled “top secret.” But then he found inspiration during his favorite pastime: watching television.

The New York Times reports that “two lawyers who are working with Mr. Trump on the documents case — Mr. [M. Evan] Corcoran and Jim Trusty — have prosecutorial experience with the federal government. But the team was put together quickly.” How quickly? “Mr. Trusty was hired after Mr. Trump saw him on television, people close to the former president have said.” Even if Trump hadn’t seen Trusty on television, he would have eventually found him after typing “trusty lawyers” into Google. It was meant to be.

Mr. Corcoran came in during the spring, introduced by another Trump adviser during a conference call in which Mr. Corcoran made clear he was willing to take on a case that many of Mr. Trump’s other advisers were seeking to avoid, people briefed on the discussion said. Mr. Trump’s allies have reached out to several other lawyers, but have repeatedly been turned down.

Trump is “very happy” with his legal team. “The WAPO story that ‘Trump is scrambling to add seasoned lawyers’ to the Mar-a-Lago Raid case is, as usual, FAKE NEWS,” he wrote on TRUTH Social. “I already have excellent and experienced lawyers – am very happy with them. This is highly political prosecutorial misconduct, I have not been charged with anything and, most importantly, I did nothing wrong. Thank you!”

With a name like Trusty, what could go wrong? (A lot, actually.)

Megan Thee Stallion Wants Warner Music To Reveal Who Could Have Leaked ‘Traumazine’

Megan Thee Stallion wants answers after her second studio album, Traumazine, was leaked early, and she’s demanded information from her label’s distributor to get them. According to Billboard, Meg’s lawyers filed documents in court today asking a judge to order Warner Music Group, the parent company of 300 Entertainment, which distributes Megan’s label 1501 Certified Entertainment, to hand over a list of anyone who was given early access to the album to determine who leaked it.

It’s likely that Megan wants the information to prove that the leak came from 1501 Certified itself due to her ongoing lawsuit against the label to be released from her contract. In the lawsuit, she previously accused 1501 of sabotaging the release while demanding $1 million in allegedly unpaid royalties. Her legal actions have led to a bitter war of words between herself and 1501’s founder Carl Crawford, with occasional dispatches from Houston rap royal J Prince. However, although today’s filing does not accuse WMG of the leak, it does leave open the possibility that the leak did not originate from 1501, in which case, due to the limited nature of the preview links that were shared, there could only be a few suspects — including Warner employees.

“Pete does not, at this time, accuse WMG of intentionally releasing her album, but does believe that receiving documents and communications from WMG related to Traumazine and its release should help discover who improperly leaked her artistic work,” Meg’s lawyers wrote. “In addition to documents and communications, Pete wishes to ascertain who all received access to Traumazine through WMG.”

In addition, she’s asked the court to also compel Cablevision and Datacamp, a pair of internet service providers, to give up the leakers’ IP information.

Megan Thee Stallion is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Britney Spears’ Mom Responds To The Singer’s 22-Minute Recording And Asks For A Private Conversation

Last night, Britney Spears surprised fans by sharing a 22-minute audio recording in which she discusses her conservatorship (although the YouTube upload has since been set to private).

As Billboard reports, Britney spends some of the runtime criticizing mother Lynne Spears, saying at one point, “I’m honestly more angry at my mom because I heard when reporters would call her at the time, and ask questions of what was going on, she would go innocently hide in the house and she wouldn’t speak up. There was always like, ‘I don’t know what to say. I just don’t want to say the wrong thing. We’re praying for her.’ I feel like she could’ve gotten me a lawyer in literally two seconds. […] Every time I made contact with a firm, my phone was tapped and they would take my phone away from me.”

After the video was shared, Lynne offered an apparent response, sharing an old photo of her with her daughter and writing, “Britney, your whole life I have tried my best to support your dreams and wishes! And also, I have tried my best to help you out of hardships! I have never and will never turn my back on you! Your rejections to the countless times I have flown out and calls make me feel hopeless! I have tried everything. I love you so much, but this talk is for you and me only , eye to eye, in private. [heart emoji] [folder hands emoji].”

‘Rings Of Power’ Character Guide: Meet The Main Players Of Middle-Earth

Amazon Prime Video’s The Rings of Power is inviting Tolkien fans — and fantasy fans in general — back to Middle-earth for a new adventure in a new age, but while the setting is familiar, this story comes with a crop of characters you’ve never heard of before. We’re talking lady dwarves and elf kings. Honestly, it’s a lot to keep up with, so we’ve rounded up the main players of Middle-earth this time around.

Feel free to bookmark this and come back to it anytime you forget the difference between a Harfoot and a Hobbit.

The Elves

Galadriel Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Galadriel (Morfydd Clark)

Galadriel is one of the few characters fans of Peter Jackson’s original trilogy will recognize in this new tale of Middle-earth. In those films, she was played by Cate Blanchett as a wise and all-powerful high elf in possession of one of the rings of power but here, she’s a warrior on a quest for vengeance after the death of her brother. Galadriel can sense Sauron’s rise to power before most of her kind, but she struggles to convince the rest of Middle-earth that evil still exists. She’s prideful and single-minded in her pursuit of the Dark Lord, traits that make her a bit of an outcast when fans first meet her, but she’s got an important role to play in the war to come.

Elrond Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Elrond (Robert Aramayo)

Another familiar name on Team Elf is Elrond, first played by Hugo Weaving in Jackson’s films. He’s quite younger and less experienced in this series, though he’s still a bookworm who is obsessed with elf lore and learning how to play the game of politics in Lindon – the elven realm where we first see him. Elrond’s father is a bit of a mythical hero who had a big role to play in defeating the evil of the First Age which means he’s got big shoes to fill and he’s fairly uncertain about how to do that until he’s tasked with stewarding the creation of the rings of power. And, well, we all know how that turns out.

Arondir Lord of the Rings
Amazon Prime Video

Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova)

While the rest of the elves on this show hail from royal blood, Arondir is a simple silvan elf, a foot soldier compared to the kings and ladies that live in Lindon. He’s stationed in the Southlands where he watches over human villages who aligned with Sauron during the First Age. There’s a simmering hostility between men and elves in those parts which makes Arondir’s secret relationship with a human healer named Bronwyn even more dangerous but a mysterious new threat emerges that takes precedent over their doomed romances.

Gil galad Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Gil-galad (Benjamin Walker)

Gil-galad had a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it cameo in Jackson’s first film, and his name crops up again in stories and poems recited by a certain hobbit so it doesn’t feel like too big a spoiler to say that Gil-galad is going to have a rough time of things on this show. As the Elf King of Lindon who’s blessed (cursed?) with the gift of foresight, he knows that Sauron is quietly gaining power which is why he tries to unite the peoples of Middle-earth with the creation of those damned rings. Of course, things inevitably go bad, but before they do, Gil-galad does his best to protect Middle-earth, even if he makes some questionable decisions along the way.

Celebrimbor Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards)

Celebrimbor is the famed forger of the rings of power but when we first meet him, he’s just a plucky old elf with a talent for crafting all sorts of weapons and armory for his people. He works with Elrond to mold each of the 13 rings but he’s inevitably tricked by Sauron into crafting one ring that rules them all. Poor guy.

The Dwarves

Durin IV Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Durin IV (Owain Arthur)

Tolkien fans have only ever seen the great halls of Khazad-dûm, a.k.a. Moria, decimated, deserted, and left to ruin. It’s where the hobbits journeyed in Jackson’s first film and where Gandalf the Grey battled a particularly nasty Balrog. But in Rings of Power, Khazad-dûm is a thriving dwarfdom and Durin IV is its king. Durin, like all of the other dwarves we’ve met in the past, is proud, passionate, and a bit reckless.

Disa Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Disa (Sophia Nomvete)

Before the show cast the character of Disa, we weren’t sure female dwarves actually existed. Yes, Tolkien writes about them, but we’d never seen a dwarf woman on screen before and they’ve taken on a bit of a mythic quality that Jackson’s many films liked to poke fun at. But The Rings of Power has promised us lady dwarves, in the flesh, and Disa is one of them – the queen of Khazad-dûm who has a playful relationship with her husband and, yes, sideburns to match.

The Harfoots

Nori Brandyfoot Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh)

Sadly, Hobbits did not exist in Tolkien’s Second Age but their nomadic ancestors, the Harfoots, did. The main difference between the two seems to be their traveling lifestyle. While Hobbits were happy to keep to the Shire, Harfoots like to stretch their legs a bit more, moving from place to place while avoiding the “Big Folk.” But even amongst these wanderers, Nori Brandyfoot is different. More adventurous, fearless, and willing to leave the safety of her home to explore the great unknown.

Sadoc Burrows
Amazon Prime Video

Sadoc Burrows (Lenny Henry)

The leader of Nori’s traveling band of Harfoots, Sadoc Burrows is charged with keeping his people safe, mostly from threats originating from the “Big Folk.” He’s got a tome he consistently checks to predict dangers and, when this story begins, it’s got a lot to say about a mysterious man who happens to fall from the sky.

The Men

Miriel Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson)

Another mythical city Tolkien fans have yet to see on screen is the island kingdom of Númenor and, when Rings of Power premieres, this fabled realm is ruled over by Míriel, a Queen Regent who’s struggling to keep her people peaceful. Like her citizens, Míriel is of human and elven descent and the tensions between the two races seem to be the root of the problem she’s facing.

Bronwyn Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi)

A healer and single mother, Bronwyn was born and raised in the Southlands and, though her ancestors sided with Sauron, she’s decidedly against another war. While she does strike up a relationship with Arondir, she also battles back against the idea that her people deserve to be oppressed and controlled because of the sins committed in the First Age.

Isildur Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Isildur (Maxim Baldry)

You’ve likely heard the name Isildur before. It’s one that pops up often in Tolkien’s writings and Jackson’s films, but here, Isildur isn’t the founding father of Gondor (the kingdom of men) and he hasn’t yet sliced off the hand of Sauron, robbing him of his powerful ring. Instead, he’s just a young sailor living in Númenor, trying to provide for his father and sister while feeling destined for more than a life at sea.

Pharazon Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Pharazôn (Trystan Gravelle)

A cousin of Queen Míriel, Pharazôn is remembered as the last king of Númenor but for now, he’s just another politician, albeit a powerful one. Pharazôn is Míriel’s right hand and instrumental in trying to forge peace between the warring factions of his city.

Halbrand Rings of Power
Amazon Prime Video

Halbrand (Charlie Vickers)

We likely won’t know who Halbrand is until this show wants us to. For now, we can confidently say he’s a man who meets Galadriel while the two are stranded at sea and he has a role to play in her journey to Númenor.

Tommy Lee Pulled Out His Wiener On Stage (But It’s Not As NSFW As It May Sound)

Perhaps more than any other private parts from an ’80s rock band member, Tommy Lee’s penis has been getting a lot of press lately. It was a focal point in Hulu’s Pam & Tommy earlier this year, so much so that Jason Mantzoukas voiced it. Then, towards the start of August, Lee just went ahead and shared a naked selfie, in which his penis was on full display. While the image was understandably removed from Instagram, it sort of made a return in the form of an artistic depiction.

Now, Lee is putting the focus on his other wiener.

On Saturday (August 27), Mötley Crüe performed at Inglewood, California’s SoFi Stadium and Lee re-explained the context of the penis situation. He then continued, “So I figured they took them down from Instagram, and you guys wanna see my wiener? You guys wanna see the sh*t? Is that a yeah? All right, let’s go. Let me show you my f*ckin’ wiener. You ready? There it is.”

At this point, he pulled a real live dachshund (aka a wiener dog) out of his shorts.

Lee previously explained how the photo found its way online, saying, “A couple of weeks ago, we had like a two-week break off the tour, and I went on a motherf*cking bender, bro… a bender. I got f*cking sideways as f*ck and got naked and posted pictures of my dick.”

Dave Bautista Is Playing A YouTube Star Named — We Swear — ‘Duke Cody’ In ‘Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery’

As Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery nears its release date, more details are starting to trickle out about the latest mystery from writer/director Rian Johnson. Returning as detective Benoit Blanc, Daniel Craig is joined by a literal murderer’s row of a cast that includes Edward Norton, Ethan Hawke, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monae, Kathryn Hahn, Jessica Henwick, Leslie Odom Jr., and Dave Bautista.

Thanks to a new feature in Empire, we now have a better look at the eclectic assortment of characters. Bautista, in particular, we’ll be stretching his acting muscles as YouTube star Duke Cody who, along with the rest of the cast, we’ll be having a tense and murder-tinged stay at a private island owned by Norton’s character. Meanwhile, Hahn will play a Connecticut governor, Hudson is a fashionista, Henwick plays Hudson’s assistant, Odom Jr. is a scientist, and Monáe is a tech entrepreneur. Details about the rest of the fully stacked cast are under wraps for now, but expect a magnifying class to be held to them in more ways than one.

“The movie itself is not entirely about the income divide, but that definitely has a huge place in it,” Johnson told Empire. “We’re in a moment in history where the divide feels increasingly obscene. Like a circus that we can’t keep our eyes off even as the negative effects of it become more and more real in all our lives.”

Here’s the official synopsis:

When a tech billionaire Miles Bron (Edward Norton) invites some of his nearest and dearest for a getaway on his private Greek island, it soon becomes clear that all is not perfect in paradise. And when someone turns up dead, well, who better than Benoit Blanc to peel back the layers of intrigue?

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery premieres December 23 on Netflix.

Daniel Radcliffe Is A Hard-Partying ‘Weird Al’ (And Gets Steamy With Madonna) In The ‘Weird: The Al Yankovic Story’ Trailer

“It would be WEIRD if you didn’t watch Weird: The Al Yankovic Story.”

Sorry, I’m just trying to get a pull quote on the poster for Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, a tongue-in-cheek biography about song parody icon “Weird Al” Yankovic. In the Roku Channel original movie, he’s played by Daniel Radcliffe, who shares his dream in the hilarious trailer above: “My whole life, all I wanted is to make up new words to a song that already exists.” That polka-filled origin story eventually leads to “My Bologna” and “The Saga Begins” and “White and Nerdy,” as well as originals like “Christmas at Ground Zero” and “Albuquerque” (where’s Weird Al’s statue, huh?).

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story also stars Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento (who calls “Weird Al” the “future of music”), Quinta Brunson as Oprah Winfrey, and Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna. “Is that song autobiographical?” “Weird Al” asks Madonna about “Like a Virgin.” Yes, she responds, “except for the fact that I’ve had a lot of sex.” Weird: The Al Yankovic Story is the Walk Hard of polka biopics, and I, for one, cannot wait.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Daniel Radcliffe is “Weird” Al Yankovic in the unexaggerated true story about the greatest musician of our time. From a conventional upbringing where playing the accordion was a sin, Al rebelled and made his dream of changing the words to world-renowned songs come true. An instant success and sex symbol, Al lives an excessive lifestyle and pursues an infamous romance that nearly destroys him. With Evan Rachel Wood, Rainn Wilson, and an A-list cast of thousands their agents won’t let us reveal.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story comes to the Roku Channel on Friday, November 4.
