Dan Harmon Offers ‘Concrete’ Proof That The ‘Community’ Movie Is Happening, For Real This Time

Dan Harmon once said that when a book about Community is written, the title won’t be Community: An Interesting Journey into a Show No One Ever Watched. It will be Six Seasons and a Movie. Human Beings have been expecting a film based on the cult-beloved NBC sitcom since Abed’s love of The Cape inspired the “six seasons and a movie” mantra/promise. There have been frequent updates over the year, including Fast Five director Justin Lin’s rumored attachment as director and Alison Brie confirming that “there are legitimate conversations that are happening,” but nothing definitive.

Dan Harmon swears it’s happening, though. For real this time.

“I will now say it’s a matter of ‘when.’ I have been so careful about [saying] that,” he told Newsweek. “It would have been accurate three years ago to say ‘it’s a matter of when, not if.’ The wheels have been in motion for that long.” Harmon, who’s also working on Rick and Morty season six (no movie… yet), continued, “The fan that Instagrams every day about Community, how can you tell them, ‘Yes, it’s definitely going to happen, but it may be between one and eight years from now,’ which is how the industry works.”

Harmon then offered the most promising update yet:

“How about this for a concrete thing? There is an outline for it. There’s a product put together and pitched out in the world. I guess that’s how real it is.”

Now it’s just a matter of securing financing, and distribution, and reuniting the cast with their busy schedules, including Donald Glover and “genuinely bad, racist person” Chevy Chase. Other than that, it’s good to go! Sounds dean-lightful.

Nicki Minaj Reacts To ‘Super Freaky Girl’ Debuting At No. 1 And Making History For Female Rappers

Nicki Minaj has found herself in the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart a handful of times now. Her first time was with her featured appearance on Doja Cat’s “Say So” in 2020, then with her Tekashi 69 collaboration “Trollz” later that year. Just yesterday, she landed her third No. 1, doing it unaccompanied this time with “Super Freaky Girl,” which debuted in the top spot. This has Minaj excited, so she took to social media to celebrate.

Sharing an Instagram post noting the various things the song’s No. 1 debut means, Minaj wrote, “You did it barbz. You did it. I love you so much. like so so SO much. Thank you.” She shared a more concise version of that message on Twitter, writing simply, “You did it [teary eyed emoji].”

As for what “Super Freaky Girl” has done, it’s the first song by a solo female rapper to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 since Lauryn Hill did with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. It also makes Minaj the first female lead artist to debut at No. 1 in 2022, and the first female rapper with multiple songs to debut on top. Aside from the Hot 100, “Super Freaky Girl” is also No. 1 on a number of other charts, including Streaming Songs, Hip-Hop/R&B Songs, Digital Song Sales, R&B/Hip-Hop Streaming Songs, R&B/Hip-Hop Digital Songs Sales, and Rap Streaming Songs.

Britney Spears Says She Cries Herself To Sleep ‘Most Nights’: ‘I Will Forever Be Traumatized’

In some ways, things are looking up for Britney Spears; She’s out of her conservatorship, she recently got married, and she’s releasing a new song with Elton John in a few days. Through it all, though, Spears’ past traumas are still impacting her, so much that she apparently cries herself to sleep “most nights.”

That’s what Spears wrote in an Instagram post yesterday (August 22), starting with talk of social media before continuing, “I do try and post me looking my best or what it may seem to be the good life … well the truth is, my spirits are better but I will forever be traumatized by my past experience for life … there is no way to fix me, my emotions and my sensitivity … therapy, all of it !!! I think I will need some sort of miracle for my emotions. My life is by no means picture perfect … I cry myself to sleep most night … I’m insecure as hell.”

Find Spears’ post below.

“It’s crazy … social media … everybody’s life seems so perfect and when I post things I think most of the time I’ve been utterly and completely embarrassed of my past … and who can forget those documentaries ??? So yes, I do try and post me looking my best or what it may seem to be the good life … well the truth is, my spirits are better but I will forever be traumatized by my past experience for life … there is no way to fix me, my emotions and my sensitivity … therapy, all of it !!! I think I will need some sort of miracle for my emotions. My life is by no means picture perfect … I cry myself to sleep most night … I’m insecure as hell … I don’t know how to have good posture unless I’m on camera … and I need to go to a school just to be taught how to freaking walk … I know you say ‘but you are a performer’ … well that’s it !!! It’s an act on stage … in real life I have no clue … and I’m working on that !!! I’m so lazy and I’m learning the word ‘MORE’ … I’ve never had seconds at the dinner table and I know ESPECIALLY in LA a lot of people starve themselves but it’s weird … I WANT MORE lately … does that make me a bad person ??? It’s weird just the other night someone made me the best mac and cheese … I swear I wanted more so bad !!! But I didn’t do it then I thought about it !!! Have I ever had seconds ??? It’s called MORE and maybe MORE isn’t so bad … and opening to MORE and the DOOR !!!”

HBO Max’s Weird Cuts Continue As They Ditch ‘Batman: Caped Crusader’ And Even A Couple ‘Looney Tunes’ Things

What is going on over at HBO Max? Since bowing two summers ago, the streamer has distinguished itself as maybe the best in the field — the one with the most variety, the one with some of the best new original shows. There a one-stop-shop for Looney Tunes and Studio Ghibli, Criterion and TCM movies, plus tons of delightful ‘90s garbage. But since the Warner Bros.-Discovery merger, increasingly infamous CEO David Zaslav has had some…interesting choices, leading many to worry about the fate of their favorite series and about their favorite streamer.

In the wake of the disappearing of some HBO originals as well as some animated shows, here’s some more bad news: As per Variety, the streamer has abruptly ditched six more animated series. Among them was not only highly anticipated but also another Batman-related thing: Batman: Caped Crusader, which was set to build off of the beloved Batman: The Animated Series from the ‘90s. The series was the brainchild of original show co-creator Bruce Timm as well as J.J. Abrams and The Batman director Matt Reeves.

The Batman series wasn’t the only ditched by HBO Max. They also parted ways with Merry Little Batman, The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, Bye Bye Bunny: A Looney Tunes Musical, Did I Do That to The Holidays: A Steve Urkel Story and The Amazing World of Gumball: The Movie.

Not all is lost, though. All six series are still in production. They just need a new home. Maybe they’ll find their way to a popular streamer run by a CEO who will better appreciate them. On the plus side, at least Warner Bros. Discovery brass aren’t bidding adieu to Nathan Fielder.

Danny Brown Unleashes ‘Winter,’ His First Solo Song In Three Years

Detroit rapper Danny Brown is back with “Winter,” his first solo song in three years, after unveiling it during an episode of the podcast Your Mom’s House. For now, the two-and-a-half-minute track is only on Soundcloud, his flow uninterrupted against a haunting, brooding beat that lends an eerie atmosphere to the song.

Last year, he took part in The Red Bull SoundClash, up against Rico Nasty. About his participation in the event, he told Uproxx, “I was a part of the A$AP SoundClash in London that they did against Boy Better Know. I don’t know, but they just hit me up. But I was always a fan of what it was. So, of course, when they asked me to do it, I was down. It didn’t even matter who it was against.” He added, “It’s my own personal set. This is working with someone else. And to me, this is not a soundclash, with the real Jamaican sound clashes. This is training. This is preschool. I mean, that’s what they calling it, but this is not that vibe. It’s not that energy. In Jamaica, a soundclash is war. We ain’t got that energy with each other. We ain’t got that vibe, so this ain’t that.”

Watch Johnny Gargano Make His Return To WWE

Nine months after exiting the WWE NXT brand, Johnny Gargano is officially back with the WWE.

After a commercial break Monday night in Toronto, Raw returned with Gargano’s music hitting unexpectedly and the former NXT champion hit the ring to discuss why he’s back in WWE.

Gargano cut a promo talking about his time to reflect, spending time with his son, Quill, and his dreams to become an Intercontinental champion, United States champion, and WWE world champion. Gargano was then interrupted by Theory, who talked down to his former friend. Gargano ended the segment by teasing a hi-five to Theory, then catching him with a super kick.

Gargano’s exit from NXT coincided with the brand’s refresh to younger, newer talent as NXT 2.0, in addition to the birth of his first child. Over the last few months, as WWE has seen significant changes in its management structure, with Triple H now in charge of creative, reports circled that Shawn Michaels had been tasked with reaching out to Gargano in hopes of bringing him back, per Fightful Select.

Gargano joins the likes of Karrion Kross, Dexter Lumis, Dakota Kai, and the group Hit Row to all have made their respective returns to the company over the last month.

Mick Jagger Couldn’t Help But Dance To Coldplay Performing ‘Fix You’

Love or hate the band, Coldplay’s “Fix You” will always remain a classic. The song has been covered by Kacey Musgraves and HER. Billie Eilish, and Finneas once joined Coldplay at a show to perform it, and Ed Sheeran did the same. Today, the one and only Mick Jagger took to Twitter to share his appreciation for the song.

“Had a great time watching Coldplay last night,” he wrote. “A real busman’s holiday!” He added a video of Coldplay performing “Fix You” to an entirely lit up stadium, and when the camera turned to him he started dancing enthusiastically, swinging his arms in the air and mouthing along the words to the emotional hit. The crowd can be heard singing along every line; it was obviously a beautiful night.

Coldplay is in the midst of their Music Of The Spheres tour, which has been full of special moments. In contrast to this vulnerable song, Coldplay recently made fans laugh when Chris Martin seated himself at the piano and fired off an impromptu rendition of the eccentric TikTok song “Jiggle Jiggle,” singing the now-classic lyrics as he played along on piano.

Coldplay is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Watch This Yankees Fan Make A Hot Dog Straw For His Beer

One of the best parts of going to a baseball game is getting to eat ballpark food and, for those so inclined, hammer back outrageously expensive beers.

For many, the ballpark fare of choice is a hot dog, which pairs great with the aforementioned beers. However, you usually ingest those two items separately, washing that dog down with tall, cool Budweiser. That is unless you are this Yankees fan, who became a viral sensation — if that’s what you can call someone who causes widespread disgust and outrage — for taking a hot dog out of the bun, using a a straw to hollow out the middle of the dog, and then dropping it into his beer cup and proceeding to drink his brew from his glizzy straw.

This is, quite possibly, the most crude thing I have ever seen someone do at a stadium. How dare you, sir? There are children there and you have the gall to hollow out a dog and start sucking back a cold one like it’s a normal thing to do? Have even the slightest bit of self respect (which includes not wearing a plaid Yankees hat, my goodness what is that?). I know the Yankees are down bad right now, but I refuse to believe they are hot dog straw bad.

Aubrey Plaza Is Joining The All-Star Cast Of Francis Ford Coppola’s Self-Financed Passion Project ‘Megalopolis’

It’s been a while since we got a new film from one of the greatest directors of all time, Francis Ford Coppola. But that’s about to change: The filmmaker and popular vintner is personally bankrolling Megalopolis, a hugely ambitious (and expensive) epic he’s been trying to make for at least two decades. He’s already amassed an all-star cast, and on Monday it got even better.

As per Deadline, Aubrey Plaza — getting some of the best reviews of her life for Emily the Criminal and Spin Me Round — is set to join the film’s ensemble cast. Her co-workers will include Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jon Voight, and Laurence Fishburne. Plaza seemed stoked about adding a legend of cinema to her ever-diversifying CV.

Plaza made her name as the witheringly sarcastic April Ludgate on Parks and Recreation, but she managed to avoid typecasting. Over the years, she’s played damaged characters (Ingrid Goes West, Black Bear), moms (Child’s Play), romantic interests (The Happiest Season), action star (the forthcoming Operation Fortune: Rue de Guerre) even zombies (Life After Beth). We have yet to find out the nature of her vacationer in the second season of The White Lotus.

Coppola, meanwhile, has spent a chunk of his time tending to his older classics, repeatedly remastering his heavy-hitters and even doing brand new, sometimes radically different cuts of Apocalypse Now and The Godfather: Part III. It’ll be fascinating to see what new tricks the guy who once reimagined Dracula for a new age has up his sleeve.

Halle Says She’s ‘For Sure’ In Love With DDG

Chlöe and Halle Bailey are having a big year, especially after the former graced our Uproxx cover this month ahead of her upcoming album. She also discussed her good fortunes in their new Essence interview, where Halle touched on something more personal: her relationship with rapper DDG, which it looks like is getting pretty serious.

When Halle was asked if she was in love with the musician, she answered, “Yes. For sure I am. I’ve been a fan of his for years. I grew up being on YouTube and would always see the young Black creators and was constantly inspired by them. He was one of them. I completely forgot about him. But then I saw that he was dropping music, and I really gravitated toward this one song. Coincidentally he messaged me — and the rest is history.”

In June, DDG spoke about a line in his song with Gunna, “Elon Musk,” which is about going on a double date and was rumored to be about Halle. “I think it’s self-explanatory,” DDG elaborated. “I think the world knows that me and Gunna have a mutual situation with people that are related. Gunna got a Maybach, I got a Maybach — he got the truck, I got the car. One day, he was on a date, I was on a date, we pulled up at the same time.”
