Things got rowdy at Rage Against The Machine’s concert at Toronto’s Scotiabank Arena over the weekend (on Saturday, July 23): A fan ran on stage and while security subdued them, Tom Morello accidentally got tackled. The good news is that Morello was alright and the show went on, but an unfortunate side-effect is that the stage-crashing antics overshadowed a cool moment from earlier in the show.

On Rage’s ongoing tour, Run The Jewels are opening, which provided the perfect opportunity for El-P and Killer Mike to join Zack De La Rocha and company on stage for a performance of “Close Your Eyes (And Count To F*ck),” the 2014 Run The Jewels 2 single that features De La Rocha. Indeed, that’s just what they did in Toronto, marking the first time RATM has performed the song live. De La Rocha has actually joined Run The Jewels to perform the song live on multiple occasions, like at Pitchfork Music Festival in 2015.

RATM’s tour has been eventful, even before this weekend: De La Rocha injured his leg a couple weeks ago and the band has used its time on stage to rage against the Supreme Court and injustices faced by Canadian Indigenous peoples.

After a brief hiatus, John Oliver returned to Last Week Tonight on Sunday where he immediately got to work tearing into Mad Money host Jim Cramer for misleading his audience about the threat of inflation. In fairness, Cramer wasn’t the only economist who thought the Federal Reserve wouldn’t raise interest rates, but he was definitely one of the loudest, and Oliver roasted him for the supremely bad take.

“Here is Jim Cramer, the answer to the question, what if a garbage can full of cocaine and business school pamphlets,” Oliver said before playing a clip of the Mad Money host arguing that the inflation issue would go away on its own. Via Yahoo:

Oliver then played a clip of Cramer saying, “The bottom line, I don’t think Powell (Chair of the Federal Reserve, Jerome Powell) needs to slam the brakes on the economy, despite what you hear from the inflationistas in the media, the weight of the evidence is finally going Powell’s way. Team transitory is going to win. I say stop freaking about inflation.”

“Okay, setting aside the fact that he’s speaking with an intensity level there, best described as Patti Lupone admonishing a rude audience member,” Oliver said in response, “it’s pretty clear that this clip, much like Jim Cramer himself, has not aged very well.”

Oliver then twisted the knife just a bit more by playing a clip of Cramer from six months later where he’s doing a “full 180 with a very different tone” by personally urging the Federal Reserve to raise interest rates to “break this thing now.”

“That was a pretty dramatic turnaround,” Oliver quipped. “He went from loudly unconcerned about rising prices to full-blown inflationista in a matter of months.”

Before she was a two-time Oscar nominee and face of the DC Extended Universe, for better and worse, Margot Robbie was on an Australian soap opera. Neighbours premiered in 1985 and it’s aired nearly 9,000 episodes since then. But it’s most notorious, at least among non-Aussies, for launching the careers of Kylie Minogue, Russell Crowe, Liam Hemsworth (brother Chris also appeared in an episode), Guy Pearce, and Robbie, who will reprise her role as Donna in the Neighbours series finale.

“Surprise! You didn’t think we were done did you?! We’re thrilled to share that Margot Robbie, Jesse Spencer, Delta Goodrem, Kym Valentine and Carla Bonner will all make an appearance in our finale!” the show’s official Twitter account tweeted over the weekend. Robbie filmed her cameo “from Los Angeles,” according to the Hollywood Reporter, and she’ll “join other famous alumni in returning for the series’ end, including Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Natalie Imbruglia, and more.”

The painstakingly-detailed Wikipedia page for Robbie’s character describes her as a “lovable girl,” who is “fiery, beautiful, kooky, and confident.” She was also nominated for Fave Aussie Hottie at the Nickelodeon Australian Kids’ Choice Awards, which stopped existing in 2011. Presumably because Robbie lost to this guy (no offense).

The Neighbours finale will air on July 28 in Australia and July 29 in the United Kingdom, but if you start from the first episode, you’ll be able to catch up by, like, 2047.

Back in late 2021, Adele announced Weekends With Adele, a Las Vegas residency that she shortly after ended up postponing. Now, the new dates are finally here, as Adele has at last unveiled when the rescheduled Weekends With Adele shows are happening.

The residency now runs from November to March 2023, on Fridays and Saturdays. Additionally, along with the original 24 dates, 8 new ones have been added, for a total of 32 shows. It all goes down at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. A Ticketmaster blog post has more information on getting tickets.

In a note on her website, Adele wrote, “Words can’t explain how ecstatic I am to finally be able to announce these rescheduled shows. I truly was heartbroken to have to cancel them. But after what feels like an eternity of figuring out logistics for the show that I really want to deliver, and knowing it can happen, I’m more excited than ever! Now I know for some of you it was a horrible decision on my part, and I will always be sorry for that, but I promise you it was the right one. To be with you in such an intimate space every week has been what I’ve most been looking forward to and I’m going to give you the absolute best of me. Thank you for your patience, I love you x Adele.”

It’s been nearly two decades since Joni Mitchell offered a full live performance to the world, but that drought came to an end on Sunday evening. She surprised attendees of the Newport Folk Festival with a full performance, her first since 2002, as she joined country singer and friend Brandi Carlile at the festival. It’s there that Mitchell performed classics like “A Case Of You,” “Both Sides Now,” “Big Yellow Taxi,” and even the guitar solo from “Just Like This Train.” In total, Mitchell’s set at the Newport Folk Festival featured 13 songs for the audience to enjoy.

Elsewhere, Mitchell and Carlile were accompanied by Marcus Mumford, Wynonna Judd, Blake Mills, Jess Wolfe, and Holly Laessig of the band Lucius, and Mitchell’s bandmates Phil and Tim Hanseroth and Celisse Henderson for a live edition of the private “Joni Jam” nights. Mitchell has held these nights in recent years at her Los Angeles home and they’ve featured appearances from Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Herbie Hancock, and more.

Mitchell’s performance was her first live show since performing Wiltern in Los Angeles back in November 2002. It was also her first time back at the Newport Folk Festival since 1969 when she appeared on the festival lineup alongside Arlo Guthrie, The Everly Brothers, and more.

Keke Palmer stars in Jordan Peele’s Nope, which pulled in an estimated $44 million over the weekend. It’s a win for original IP and audiences, and it’s also produced an abundance of marvelous interviews from Keke, who has candidly admitted that, yep, she’s starring in an alien movie but has no idea about those Mulder and Scully people.

That might be for the better, considering that The X-Files can lead to inappropriate jokes about autoerotic asphyxiation (actually, that might simply be my immaturity coming through), but more to the point today, Keke doesn’t feel fantastic about people suggesting that this movie is her “breakout” role. Even more so, the former child star (of Nickelodeon’s True Jackson, VP and more) isn’t thrilled to see people compare her career trajectory to Zendaya, also a former child star (of Disney Channel’s Shake It Up) who’s gone on to major mainstream success. In response to a tweet that described such comparisons to “one of the clearest examples of how colorism plays out in Hollywood,” Keke expressed agreement, and she pointed out why in a thread.

“A great example of colorism is to believe I can be compared to anyone. I’m the youngest talk show host ever,” Keke tweeted. “The first Black woman to star in her own show on Nickelodeon, & the youngest & first Black Cinderella on broadway. I’m an incomparable talent. Baby, THIS, is Keke Palmer.”

In other words, don’t compare Keke to anyone, not even the great Zendaya, because her accomplishments stand on their own.

“I’ve been a leading lady since I was 11 years old,” Palmer continued. “I have over 100+ credits, and currently starring in an original screenplay that’s the number one film at the box office #NOPE. I’ve had a blessed career thus far, I couldn’t ask for more but God continues to surprise me.”

Nope is currently dominating theaters, proving that we’ll have many more Jordan Peele projects to come. Hopefully, some of those will include Keke Palmer.

Newport Folk Festival went down in Rhode Island this weekend and part of the stacked bill was The National. It turned out fans didn’t even have to go to their set to hear one of their songs, though, as an all-star indie lineup came together to cover one of the group’s classic.

Jack Antonoff’s band Bleachers was also performing at the festival and during their performance, they brought out Lucy Dacus (who’s opening for The National on their recently started tour) and Clairo to join them for a cover of The National’s signature High Violet single “Bloodbuzz Ohio.” It was a subdued rendition of the song, with Antonoff singing and playing guitar as the rest of Bleachers provided light accompaniment and Clairo and Dacus harmonized with Antonoff on the hook.

The two guests were already on-hand as they were also part of the festival lineup. Aside from all the aforementioned, this year’s festival also features Courtney Barnett, Dinosaur Jr., Faye Webster, Beabadoobee, Sylvan Esso, Brandi Carlile, Maren Morris, The Linda Lindas, and Japanese Breakfast, among others.

Meanwhile, Antonoff is fresh off a reported recent engagement and he was also at the helm of the Minions: The Rise Of Gru soundtrack.

San Diego Comic-Con 2022 was dominated by (what else?) the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Feige laid out plans for Phases 5 and 6, and the trailers for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law were released to the public — unlike the first looks at Secret Invasion, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Those were Comic-Con exclusives.

After the Guardians SDCC panel, many fans took to Twitter to share their dismay with Marvel’s decision to not release the trailer on YouTube. Writer and director James Gunn even replied to one of them. “Wish we all could’ve experienced the @Guardians trailer yesterday. @JamesGunn its truly sad how Marvel holds your amazing space opera work of art from us the fans who REALLY REALLY F*CKIN CARE,” @theshark443 tweeted. Gunn replied, “I wish you could have too. But it’s not just Marvel, it’s also me. Although I love the teaser some VFX aren’t where I’d want them to be for repeated views & close inspection – remember we didn’t wrap long ago – so you’ll have to wait just a beat!”

While coronavirus continues to spread around the country and the world, there’s been somewhat of a return to normalcy in recent months. One area this is evident is through concerts and other large-scale shows. In the past year, showcases like Coachella, Rolling Loud, Lollapalooza, and more as well as tours from both big and small artists have all been up and running. Despite this, Neil Young isn’t comfortable holding concerts again and explained why in a statement to fans. It all started when he revealed that he would not perform at this year’s Farm Aid, an annual benefit for American farmers.

“I will not be at Farmaid this year,” Young wrote on his website in response to a fan’s letter. “I am not ready for that yet. I don’t think it is safe in the pandemic. I miss it very much.”

Neil Young has not performed live since 2019, which we all know is pre-pandemic times. His comments in response to the fan are similar to that of which he made at the end of 2021 during an interview with Howard Stern. There, Young said he would not return to performing until the coronavirus was “beat” and the pandemic was over. “I don’t care if I’m the only one who doesn’t do it,” he said during the conversation.

It was also Neil Young that had his music removed from Spotify because that platform continuously allowed Joe Rogan to spread misinformation about the coronavirus vaccine on his podcast. So, it’s clear that the legendary singer is very serious about maintaining safety around the virus.

The Brooklyn Nets have yet to find a team that meets their lofty asking price in a Kevin Durant trade. According to multiple media reports, this has opened the door for the reigning Eastern Conference champions to get in on the Durant sweepstakes, although their offer for the two-time NBA Finals MVP has likewise been turned down.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Boston Celtics contacted the Nets to gauge their interest in a deal for Durant that revolves around sending Jaylen Brown to Brooklyn. Wojnarowski wrote that “Brown as a centerpiece in offers does help make the team formidable in its pursuit.”

Shams Charania of The Athletic confirmed that there is interest and added that the Celtics offered a deal involving Brown, reserve guard Derrick White, and one draft pick, which does not clear the bar that the Nets have set. Brooklyn did, apparently, lay out what they would want back for Durant.

The proposal was rejected, and Brooklyn has asked Boston — in any proposal — to include Brown, Defensive Player of the Year Marcus Smart, draft picks and potentially one more rotation player, those sources added. Currently, the Celtics are less inclined to include Smart along with multiple other player or pick assets, but the franchise is mulling over next steps on how to approach discussions.

Boston, which swept Brooklyn in the first round of the playoffs on its run to the Finals this past year, has done some reshaping of its roster this summer by acquiring Malcolm Brogdon in a trade with the Indiana Pacers and Danilo Gallinari after he was bought out by the San Antonio Spurs. The team is in the unique position of owning most of their draft future — outside of a pick swap that is owed to the Spurs in 2028 from the White trade last season, the Celtics possess all of their future first-round picks.

Charania reported that there is no imminent deal for Durant in the league right now, while Wojnarowski said that “the Celtics appear no closer to acquiring Durant than others in discussions with the Nets.”
