Post Malone Will Play ‘Apex Legends’ On Four ‘Gaming For Love’ Charity Livestream Events

Post Malone loves gaming in all its forms, whether he’s playing party games like beer pong, card games like Magic The Gathering, or video games like Pokémon. Now, Malone is going to try his hand at being a video game streamer with a run of charity livestreams.

Dubbed “Gaming For Love,” the streams are scheduled to take place on July 18, 20, 22, and 24 on Malone’s Twitch, with each stream starting at 6 p.m. PT and set to run for six hours apiece. During that time, Posty and pals will be playing Apex Legends, and Apex developer Respawn Entertainment will be donating $10,000 during each stream. Viewer donations will benefit different non-profits for each broadcast: Human Rights Watch (July 18), Project HOPE (July 20), United Way (July 22), and The Trevor Project (July 24).

Malone said in a statement, “Tune in as I game for love & raise money for Human Rights Watch, United Way, Project HOPE, & The Trevor Project. And shout out to Apex Legends & Respawn Entertainment for their support. Donate & spread love.”

Video game livestreams have proven to be an effective way to raise money for worthwhile causes: The recent Summer Games Done Quick (SGDQ) event, which ran from June 26 to July 3, raised over $3 million for Doctors Without Borders. Meanwhile, this year’s Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ), which took place from January 9 to 16, brought in over $3.4 million (the most ever for a GDQ event) for the Prevent Cancer Foundation.

‘Better Call Saul’ Went To Great Lengths To Keep The Big ‘Breaking Bad’ Cameos A Secret (Until They Were Spoiled)

If IMDb is to be believed, Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul will make their Better Call Saul debut soon. It’s a long time coming: way back in 2016, which feels like it was 47 years ago, Cranston mentioned that he visited the set and told creator Vince Gilligan, “If you want me to be on the show, I’ll be there in a second.” That time has arrived — and it came with Game of Thrones-level security (minus the drone killer).

“We were asked to keep it a secret forever,” Cranston told the Albuquerque Journal. “We were flown in under the darkness of night. We took this plane and they went to a certain private section of the airport there. And then we took like two steps out of the tarmac and into an SUV. They move us to an Airbnb – a duplex. He had the top floor. I had the bottom floor and we were told you can’t leave.” Cranston and Paul were in town for four days; they stayed in the Airbnb the entire time, minus when they were needed on set.

The stealth was all for naught, however, because co-creator Peter Gould spoiled the cameos earlier this year. “It’s so funny that because this was supposed to be a big surprise, a big secret,” Paul said. “Then all of a sudden they announced that we were doing it, so why did they keep us in a prison? Seriously, they were just messing with us.”

Walter White is the one who knocks. Gould is the one who spoils.

Sylvester Stallone Is Slamming A ‘Rocky’ Producer While Asking For ‘What’s Left Of My Rights Back’ On Ownership

Sylvester Stallone came out swinging in a new Instagram post that calls out Rocky producer Irwin Winkler for holding onto the ownership rights of the boxing franchise. Alongside a highly problematic portrait of Winkler as a serpent with a literal dagger for a tongue, Stallone blasts the 93-year-old producer for not giving him an equity stake in the iconic films that put Stallone on the map. The actor seems to be particularly miffed that the rights will go to Winkler’s children and not his own.

Via Instagram:

After IRWIN controlling ROCKY for over 47 years , and now CREED, , I really would like have at least a little WHAT’s LEFT of my RIGHTS back, before passing it on to ONLY YOUR CHILDREN – I believe That would be a FAIR gesture from this 93 year old gentleman ? … This is a painful subject That eats at my soul , because I wanted to leave something of Rocky for my children.

Stallone ends the post with a message thanking fans of the beloved film series. “It’s always great hearing from the loyal fans,” the actor wrote. “Keep punching.”

According to Variety, Stallone has become increasingly vocal in recent years about his lack of an equity stake in the Rocky films. The situation apparently worsened after he was basically told to he happy with the money he got. Shortly after voicing those concerns, he bowed out of participating in Creed III.

“I have zero ownership of ‘Rocky,’” Stallone said in 2019. “It was shocking that it never came to be, but I was told, ‘Hey, you got paid, so what are you complaining about?’ I was furious.”

Lady Gaga Admits There Was A Moment She Thought She’d ‘Never Be On Stage Again’

Over the years, Lady Gaga has dealt with a lot of health issues that have things a bit rougher than she would’ve liked. At the end of 2020, she spoke about her struggles with fame, saying, “I hated being famous, I hated being a star, I felt exhausted and used up.” Prior to that, she also opened up about her experience with PTSD, depression, anxiety, and fibromyalgia. Through all these difficulties, Lady Gaga was unsure of what her future would look like, but ahead of her Chromatica Ball Tour, she took a moment to reflect and show some gratitude with fans.

“There was a time I thought I’d never be on stage again,” Gaga wrote in a tweet on Sunday. “I was so sad I couldn’t even dream anything but a painful nightmare.” She continued, “I’ve overcome my nightmare with love, support, trust, truth, bravery, talent and dedication. I am so grateful. I’ll see you in BABYLON #ChromaticaBall.”

Gaga’s Chromatica Ball Tour kicked off on July 17 with a stop in Germany and she’s set to continue the string of shows into the fall as the tour will conclude on September 17 with a final stop in Miami. Lauren Boebert Walked Right Into A Joke Minefield By Seconding Betsy DeVos’ Call To Abolish The Education Department

Rootin’ tootin’ Lauren Boebert makes no secret of how she didn’t graduate high school and holds a GED (which she secured less than a year before her House election). That actually wouldn’t be a deterrent to being a U.S. lawmaker, if Boebert had decided to study up on civics, but she regularly reminds people of how she doesn’t do that. She’s not too familiar with the U.S. Constitution other than the Bill of Rights, specifically the Second Amendment because (obviously) she loves her guns. She’s also demonstrated confusion about the branches of government (as outlined by the First Amendment’s Establishment Clause) and why they should not overlap, so it’s not too surprising that really sees no need for an Education Department.

Boebert also believes that church and state should not be separated, which is something she recently made clear while declaring, “The church is supposed to direct the government.” There’s no telling what point that Boebert was actually arguing, but when Trump Education Secretary Betsy DeVos stepped up over the weekend to proclaim that the Education Department “should not exist,” Boebert seemed to elbow her way to the front of the line while claiming that she’s already had that idea.

In fact, Boebert tweeted, “I signed onto legislation with @RepThomasMassie saying exactly that! We need to get this done.”

Let’s just say that Boebert made this one too easy. People couldn’t resist offering up a buffet of jokes.

There’s a darn good chance that Boebert will stay in office, regardless of her distaste for education. She won her Colorado primary and is now looking forward to sticking around after the November election.

Jordan Peele On ‘Nope,’ Making An Alien Movie With A Mostly Black Cast, And His Love For ‘Tremors’

A reference I made to Jordan Peele backfired. Nope is a lot of things, but what it also is … is a really fun alien movie. When people have asked me about it, I’ve compared it, in part, to Tremors. Now, I had no intention of telling Jordan Peele I’ve been comparing his movie to Tremors. I mean this has a huge compliment, but I have no idea if Peele likes Tremors or not. What if he hates Tremors? He’s going to take that comparison as an insult.

Of course, during the course of this interview, it slipped out anyway. Now, as it turns out, Jordan Peele is a huge fan of Tremors. As soon as he said this, my mind started racing, “Oh, god, he’s going to ask me what the creature is called and for the life of me I can’t remember.” And then that’s exactly what happened. (For the rest of my life, now, I will never forget the word “Graboid.”)

It wouldn’t be a Jordan Peele movie if Nope had nothing to say, but the thing about Nope is it’s a great summer alien movie. At a certain point during the movie, I kind of just decided, “I’ll think about the meaning later, I’m having too much fun.”

Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer star as OJ and Emerald Haywood, the sibling owners of a horse ranch that has supplied horses to Hollywood film and television productions for years. Steven Yeun stars as former child star Ricky Park (who is best known for starring in a mid-’90s sitcom in which a monkey attacked the cast), who needs horses for an upcoming project. And then OJ and Emerald start seeing a UFO lurking around their ranch and concoct a plan to try and film the alien so they will go down in history as the people who discovered alien life. Things do not go quite as planned.

Ahead, despite the kind of secretive marketing, Peele is pretty open about this being an alien movie. As he says, it’s about spectacle, and inviting people to a spectacle, and the horrors and repercussions of spectacle. Yes, Peele has things to say, but he also loves genre movies … yes, like Tremors. (The last time we spoke I was surprised how much he spoke about The Man with Two Brains, The Lost Boys, and Corey Feldman.) And there’s no doubt Peele also wanted to make a fun summer alien movie. And, as Peele points out (with a big hint in the movie, via a poster for the Sidney Poitier film, Buck and the Preacher, which I watched the day before we spoke), this is the first big-budget alien movie with a primarily Black cast.

There’s a poster for Sidney Poitier’s Buck and the Preacher displayed prominently in Nope, in a “you should watch this,” kind of way. So I watched it yesterday. That movie is amazing by the way…

It is. And I think it’s the first example of Black cowboy representation that I know of in Hollywood mythology.

So then it hit me after watching Buck and the Preacher, that you just made the first big-budget summer sci-fi movie with primarily a Black cast, just like Buck and the Preacher is the first Western movie in the same vein. Am I off-base?

That is what happened. And I think the result of that is something that even, I think, surprised me. You come up with this nightmare, or this vision, and then you bring this team together. And you launch into it full tilt with collaboration and the product ends up being even something surprising to me if it works out well. And it did this time.

So what surprised you about it?

Well, I think a part of the journey, this was written in a different way for me and created in a different way. Whereas my other movies – specifically, Get Out – started with this notion of: what if I write a script that no one would ever let me make? And how can I make a movie that’s impossible? Well, with the fortune of success, I’ve had greater tools I can work with. So it’s very important to me to continue to push and continue to start from that same starting point of, what can I do that’s impossible? What is the movie that I’m not supposed to make? That I can’t make? That I don’t know how to make? And that was the starting point. But having those tools and trying to understand what it meant to be inviting people to a spectacle that was different than my previous films. It changed the process in itself.

Well, that’s interesting because there’s literally a scene in this movie where there is a spectacle that people are invited to. I won’t say what happens…

It doesn’t go well. Spoiler alert.

Yeah, it doesn’t go well. But was that in your head when you were doing that scene? Inviting people to a spectacle?

Certain films, like King Kong, Jurassic Park, films that are about how humans consume spectacle and addiction to it… I felt like I had a take on that same notion. So the scene you’re talking about, I think it has some DNA connection to that idea that you can simultaneously invite an audience to a spectacle and indict them and yourself for putting it on and needing that spectacle.

Obviously, this movie has undertones and a lot to say, but I also feel it is a kick-ass alien movie. Because of the past movies you’ve made, I found myself trying to figure it out, but I got to point where I was like, you know what? I’m having a great time. This is a great alien movie.

Thank you, man.

Does that make sense what I’m saying?

It does, yeah. It absolutely does. Look, all of my movies, I’m trying to give you something for whatever mood you’re in. Okay? So I think that there is a way to watch this movie in a way that you’re going to come armed for that conversation afterward. There’s also a way to watch this movie where you say, Look, I’ve been working all day, all week. I want to shut off and see some wild stuff. Then I want that to be there for you as well, and if you want it all, I want to give the audience that, too.

There are two casting choices I want to ask about…

I know what they are.

Oh?

Yes. Keith David and Michael Wincott.

The second one is not one of them, actually.

Oh, okay. You seemed like a Wincott guy, that’s why I said that.

He’s great in this, but I have limited time and there’s someone else I’d rather ask about instead. But Keith David is first, you literally have The Thing in your movie.

Yes. A genre… God, as much as we have one. The Thing, They Live, he’s in hundreds of films and he is one of the nicest guys. A real honor. And spoiler alert: He doesn’t make it very long in the film.

No, he doesn’t. He has some flashbacks though.

He’s got some flashbacks, but his presence and voice resound over the entire film. So I needed somebody that was just simply iconic to base that ghostly presence on.

So the other one… The last time we spoke for Us, I was surprised how much you wanted to talk about The Man with Two Brains and The Lost Boys. So I’m really curious where this goes because when I was a little kid, my mom loved Knots Landing, and Donna Mills is in your movie. And I am fascinated by how that happened.

[Laughs] So I have to admit, I’m not a Knots Landing fan. I’ve never seen the show. The great Donna Mills honored me with an audition.

Oh?

And she crushed. So it’s just like that.

What’s that day like? “Hey, Donna Mills wants to audition for your movie.”

If I had known, I don’t know, I would not have let her audition. One day I’m just looking at some tape, and there’s Donna Mills. She just did a wonderful job, and it was more than the fact that she is an icon herself. She really nailed it.

She’s really great in this.

Yes. Yeah. She’s great.

Steven Yeun has this amazing monologue about Saturday Night Live that involves the enthusiastic line, “Chris Goddamn Kattan.” I enjoyed that immensely. What was going on there for you?

Well, Stephen has this ability to ground the absurd and he can take anything and make it feel real, like it’s coming out of a real person. And he does so much work to make things look so effortless. The character he plays is a total character study, and it’s a unique guy that’s based on, I think, observations about the type of trauma that this industry can in inflict on people who are launched into the machine of attention. Yeah. I won’t… I’m very close to that character. Let’s just put it that way.

I’m sure there are a lot of influences for this movie. And I’m sure some are obvious. What’s an influence for this movie that no one would ever think of?

Well, as soon as I say something, I think anybody would, of course, be able to tell what it is. But I would say The Wizard of Oz. There’s a spirit connection in the commitment to spectacle and the ponderance on exploitation that the film represents in movies.

When people have asked me about it, I’ve listed off a few movies. But I end with, “it’s got a hint of Tremors,” and people get really excited. I don’t know if you like Tremors or not, but I mean that as a huge compliment.

Big Tremors fan over here.

Okay, I didn’t know…

Come on, bro.

I didn’t know!

Come on. Yes.

Well, you’ve got some Tremors in this movie.

By the way. Can I ask you? Here’s your trivia question. What are the monsters in Tremors called?

I knew you were just going to ask that. And I’ve been blanking and I can’t think of it. I can’t think of it…

The Graboids! But at least you didn’t say “Tremors.”

Our Zoom host just gave me the answer in a message, trying to help me out. As soon as I brought it up I started thinking, “He’s going to ask me, and I am blanking.” And you did. But I do love that movie. The great Fred Ward, who we just lost, he’s awesome in that.

Yes. And the great Kevin Bacon. He’s still here.

Yes, he is still here. In fact, I just saw him on the street a few days ago.

Really? You’re involved in the Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon game now.

He was headed into a movie theater as I was walking out. I think he was seeing Top Gun: Maverick.

[Laughs] Wow. That’s a lot of… If you ever see me on the street, don’t tell people where I’ve been.

‘Nope’ opens on July 22nd. You can contact Mike Ryan directly on Twitter.

Lil Uzi Vert Now Uses They/Them Pronouns

Lil Uzi Vert has never shied away from change, like when they had that $24 million pink diamond embedded in their forehead. Now, the rapper has unveiled another personal shift, this one related to their identity.

Over the weekend, fans started noticing that Uzi’s listed pronouns on their Instagram profile were now “they/them.” The rapper has yet to make any sort of public statement about their pronouns or gender identity beyond that. Notably (although perhaps coincidentally), the change was made just after International Non-Binary People’s Day, which was observed on July 14.

Whatever the case may be, Uzi has often shown they’re a supporter of the LGBTQ+ community. In the summer of 2019, for example, they hopped on Instagram and shared a photo of themself in a Nike pride flag shirt, with matching colorful shoes, all in front of a rainbow-colored backdrop.

This comes shortly after Uzi announced their new Red & White EP, a prelude to the upcoming The Pink Tape. In May, they also said of their upcoming material, “This time less talkin’ more working. Going back in classic mode. I been [through] 2 much this time around. Nothin’ can break me.”

Lil Uzi Vert is a Warner Music artist. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Emilia Clarke Calls It ‘Remarkable’ That She’s Still Able To Speak Following Two Brain Aneurysms

In 2011, Emilia Clarke felt “violently, voluminously ill” and was taken to the hospital. “The diagnosis was quick and ominous: a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH), a life-threatening type of stroke, caused by bleeding into the space surrounding the brain. I’d had an aneurysm, an arterial rupture,” she wrote in a 2019 New Yorker article. Clarke “wanted to pull the plug” in her worst moments, and although she eventually returned to work on Game of Thrones, she “didn’t know what Daenerys was doing. If I am truly being honest, every minute of every day I thought I was going to die.” Two years later, in 2013, Clarke had another aneurysm. “I spent a month in the hospital again and, at certain points, I lost all hope,” she wrote, adding, “I do remember being convinced that I wasn’t going to live.”

But she did live, and she discussed her experience in an interview with BBC’s Sunday Morning. “It was the most excruciating pain. It was incredibly helpful to have Game of Thrones sweep me up and give me that purpose,” she said. “The amount of my brain that is no longer usable — it’s remarkable that I am able to speak, sometimes articulately, and live my life completely normally with absolutely no repercussions. I am in the really, really, really small minority of people that can survive that.” Clarke endured two brain aneurysms. Meanwhile, I can’t even spell “aneurysm” correctly on the first try.

Clarke has since created a charity, SameYou, that “transform[s] the way brain injury survivors and their loved ones are supported through emotional, mental health and cognitive recovery services.” You can learn more here.

All The Best New Music From This Week That You Need To Hear

Keeping up with new music can be exhausting, even impossible. From the weekly album releases to standalone singles dropping on a daily basis, the amount of music is so vast it’s easy for something to slip through the cracks. Even following along with the Uproxx recommendations on a daily basis can be a lot to ask, so every Monday we’re offering up this rundown of the best new music this week.

This week saw Lizzo drop one of the year’s most anticipated albums and Calvin Harris drop off a major pop moment with a number of cohorts. Yeah, it was a great week for new music. Check out the highlights below.

For more music recommendations, check out our Listen To This section, as well as our Indie Mixtape and Pop Life newsletters. Also find our Uproxx HQ Spotify playlist, which is updated weekly with the best new music, at the end of this post.

Lizzo — “Naked”

Lizzo is usually an in-your-face sort of singer, but she takes a more subtle approach on “Naked,” a highlight from her new album Special. Lizzo said the tune was inspired by the nuance she observed in Solange when seeing her live and also noted she actually recorded this one while she had a sinus infection.

Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake, Halsey, and Pharrell — “Stay With Me”

Last week brought a big-time hip-hop collab, as Murda Beatz, Anitta, J Balvin, Quavo, and Pharrell all linked up on “No Más.” Now, it’s pop’s turn, as Calvin Harris, Justin Timberlake, Halsey, and (once again) Pharrell collaborated on “Stay With Me,” an upbeat, funky, psychedelic tune on which everybody involved pulls their weight.

Latto — “P*ssy”

As the world continues to process the overturn of Roe v. Wade, artists are starting to address the situation in their music. Latto came through last week with the appropriately titled “P*ssy,” on which she gets as direct as possible about the situation: “How you ain’t got a p*ssy, but got opinions on p*ssy? / That’s p*ssy / My ovaries ain’t for you to bully.”

Finneas — “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa”

Finneas has some neat stuff going on outside of his Billie Eilish work, like last week’s offering, “Mona Lisa, Mona Lisa,” a reverent pop-rock tune on which he sings of his beloved, “She could be the Mona Lisa, if the Mona Lisa had a prettier face.”

DJ Premier — “Beat Breaks” Feat. Nas

Premier recently told Uproxx of “Beat Breaks,” “When Nas says, ‘Hey, man, I want you to be a part of something,’ obviously you don’t really want to say no. In my whole career, I’ve never done an EP. And then Nas said, ‘You get a record from me.’ We recorded a few different things, but there’s some stuff that he wanted to, he said, ‘Let’s save that on the back burner for some future stuff.’ He said, ‘I want to do like a classic break.’ ‘Theme From The Planets’ is one of my favorites out of all the ultimate breaks and beats and that’s the reason why I shout it out. When I told him, ‘Let me do a quick chop of it on my Serato’ just so I could just figure out an idea of reworking that song, he fell in love with it right off rip. He said it reminded him of the park jams.”

Joey Badass — “Zipcodes”

Joey had an album set for June 17, but that ultimately got delayed. While fans wait for that, though, they still have new music to dig into: Last week, the rapper dropped off “Zipcodes,” which features a warm and nostalgic instrumental that leaves from for Joey’s similarly spirited bars.

Steve Lacy — “Sunshine” Feat. Fousheé

Most of Kanye West’s compliments are addressed to himself, but he offered major praise for Lacy last week, calling new album Gemini Rights “beautiful” and dubbing Lacy “one of the most inspiring people on the planet.” “Sunshine,” for which Lacy shared a video last week, is a definite highlight, a soothing and, to borrow Kanye’s word, beautiful tune on which Fousheé’s feature adds a lot.

Porter Robinson — “Everything Goes On”

Last week marked the start of new League Of Legends event “Star Guardian 2022,” which was also good news for Porter Robinson fans because he contributed a new theme song, “Everything Goes On.” He noted the uplifting-sounding tune was an emotional one for him, saying, “Somebody who I really love was going through something really painful, and I started writing about that, and that was when it really clicked for me because I wasn’t faking anything anymore. The emotions I was writing about were really sincerely held and painful. And when I finally figured out the second pre-chorus, I literally cried in the studio. My entire heart was in it.”

Omar Apollo — “Archetype”

This year’s Ivory was a nice showing for Apollo and now he’s back with more of it, as he has a deluxe edition, dubbed Ivory (Marfil), on the way. Last week, he shared “Archetype,” a mostly smooth tune that has moments where a rock edge peeks through for a nice bit of added dimension.

Beabadoobee — “Sunny Day”

Beatopia made it onto our list of the summer’s most-anticipated indie albums a few weeks ago, and now we no longer need to anticipate because the album has arrived. With it came a video for “Sunny Day,” a warm and easygoing tune that Beabadoobee called “a song that I’ve always wanted to make but something that I’ve never done before.”

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.

Drake Seemingly Confirms He Was In Fact Detained By Swedish Authorities

Last week, social media was sent into a bit of a tizzy as reports suggested that Drake had been arrested during a visit to Sweden. Thanks to the rapper’s Instagram Story and videos from fans in the country, it was easy to confirm that Drake was indeed in Sweden. However, seeing if he had actually been detained was another feat. The reports suggested that Drake had been arrested after he was found with marijuana, but his team quickly confirmed that was not the case — or so we thought.

In a gallery of photos that Drake posted on Instagram, he seemingly suggested that he in fact had some interaction with Swedish authorities. He shared a photo of a document from the Swedish National Police Board and it was titled “Information for Those Suspected of a Crime and Subsequently Detained.” It went to detail the detainee’s rights, similar to the Miranda Rights used in the United States. They included knowing “what it is you are suspected of and why you are being denied” and receiving “the aid of a defense attorney who under certain conditions can only be paid by the state.”

it remains to be seen if anything will come out of Drake’s possible run-in with Swedish authorities. Drake’s indirect post comes after he announced the OVO Festival dates complete with appearances from Chris Brown, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj, and more.

You can view Drake’s post above.
