What’s Popular On Streaming Right Now

Multiple times per week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts and ratings) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

10. Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe (Paramount+ movie)

If you need to take a load off, then there’s no better way than by revisiting these two buttmunches. Granted, there’s absolutely nothing of substance here, and that’s part of the charm of the original MTV series, too. Mike Judge knew that we needed these two couch slackers again, and there’s no disturbing the formula that made this show so ridiculously popular in the first place. Enjoy the brainless nostalgia and wonder, like Cornholio, where all the TP and “olio” might be. This one is good for your soul and will, at the very least, convince you to forget about the stressful reality of what’s happening in today’s too-serious world.

9. Ms. Marvel (HBO Max series)

If you aren’t watching this show, then you are sorely missing out because this slice of the youngest Marvel dynamite will get you primed ahead of The Marvels, arriving in 2023 only in theaters. That film will include Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris), but this show introduces Captain Marvel superfan Kamala Khan, who’s got some updated powers that fit with her place in the MCU and our own world. The show’s a joy to watch and a case study in why it’s alright to abandon canon if those changes ultimately make the story better.

8. For All Mankind (Apple TV+ series)

This show’s not losing its quiet quality, and that’s worth appreciating, even if it’s not a big social media hit that everyone’s buzzing about. People are still watching this alternate history as it moves toward the future. Joel Kinnaman and Shantel VanSanten are back while the Space Race’s new frontier happens to (and this should sound familiar, too) be Mars. There’s a third party interfering with the U.S. and Soviet Union royalty, and loyalties might fall by the wayside because national egos are very fragile. One must respect all of the attention to detail that goes into not hitting us over the head with messaging in the process of entertainment.

7. Black Bird (Apple TV+ series)

The show’s timing is poignant, given that the recently departed Ray Liotta is now taking his last turn on the small screen. He portrays Big Jim Keene, and he’s dad to Jimmy, played by Taron Eggerton in this adaptation of the In With The Devil: A Fallen Hero, A Serial Killer, and A Dangerous Bargain for Redemption memoir. Given that Paul Walter Hauser also appears, expect him to be up to no good, and this is a suspenseful production produced by Dennis Lehane, all in service of a solid true-crime/psychological thriller adventure.

6. The Umbrella Academy (Netflix series)

The first 20 minutes of this season will instantly take you home in terms of remembering why the Hargreeves siblings are so irresistible. There are now Sparrow siblings, too, and Elliot Page’s Victor introduces himself to his family and to the audience (while also getting a doozy of a last line of the season), and it’s all to great effect. A whole lot of plates spin around here, and yes, there’s another apocalypse in the works, but don’t worry, there’s always dancing, and even a messed-up timeline and some intermittent tragedy can’t ruin the feel-good effect of this show as a whole.

5. The Old Man (FX/Hulu series)

Jeff Bridges is back for one last job (yay!) as a former CIA operative who gets dragged back into the field, and he’s got exactly chilled out about it. The story’s based upon Thomas Perry’s 2017 novel, and John Lithgow portrays an old friend who’s not exactly a friend. Think of this as a show that Liam Neeson would have loved to have done but with better writing and a lot more personality. This is apparently a limited series, but you never know whether the powers that be will see the viewing numbers and sign up for more.

4. Only Murders In The Building (Hulu series)

Selena Gomez is what makes this dream team (there are many reasons why she’s been underappreciated in Hollywood) really happen, although Steve Martin and Martin Short aren’t too shabby! This season picks up with “Bloody Mabel” attempting to ditch her newfound reputation, even if it happened because she did the alleged-perp walk while literally being both bloody and Mabel. Guest stars include Amy Schumer and Cara Delevingne, and basically, no one should trust anyone as the show’s mysteries continue to unfurl.

3. Stranger Things (Netflix series)

The drip-drip of this season’s fallout continues with Metallica and talk of gatekeepers, which might distract everyone from the enormously (almost ridiculously) long run times for the most recent episodes that dropped. Now, everyone must look ahead to Season 5 and wonder whether the Duffer Brothers will listen to Millie Bobbie Brown’s quest for many Game of Thrones-style deaths. Also, the Emmy nominations are coming soon, so keep your eyes on whether that will also be a point of contention between this show and Thrones because some records might soon fall.

2. The Boys (Amazon Prime series)

The season finale couldn’t quite top the “Herogasm” episode but delivered a satisfying set of flourishes to the Soldier Boy Problem. And the Homelander Problem? That will continue into the future, as will Vought Internationals PR issues, thanks to Starlight refusing to play nice anymore. This season delivered incredible backstories for both Black Noir and Mother’s Milk, the latter of whom is portrayed by Laz Alonso (who talked to us about why people love his character so very much. Before you watch, refresh yourself with this ranking of all The Boys and prepare yourself for Billy Butcher’s vengeance.

1. The Bear (FX series streaming on Hulu)

Hoo boy, this show’s a type of intense that will stress you out at times (Episode 7 is a pressure cooker of a long shot that’s perhaps the best work of the season). Shameless heavy lifter Jeremy Allen White finally gets the leading man turn that he deserves, and people really want a second season of this show, so we’ll see if FX ends up coming through, so we can have more of White with (stellar supporting players) Ayo Edebir and Ebon Moss-Bachrach. And everyone is a “Chef.” You are a Chef, too, and the sooner you realize that, the better.

Frank Ocean Made A Surprise Comeback With Two New Episodes Of Blonded Radio

Today is the 10th anniversary of Frank Ocean’s breakthrough album, Channel Orange. What better time than now for Ocean to return from his reclusive state with new episodes of his Blonded Radio on Apple Music 1.

Streaming now and on demand, Blonded Radio came back at 4:30pm PT on Sunday night July 10th. While this isn’t the announcement of a new Frank Ocean album that everyone has been hoping for, it certainly indicates that Ocean is back on a creative tip again. Blonded has been the grounds for Ocean to drop one-off new material and experiment while he pushes towards the long-anticipated follow-up to Blonde, which came out in 2016. The last episode of Blonded Radio came out on Christmas 2021.

A release from Apple was sparse, but was very clear in saying that “New episodes of Frank Ocean’s blonded RADIO arrive today at 4:30pm PT, only on Apple Music.” The fact that Apple Music is referring to “episodeS,” in the plural sense, indicate that there is more to come here after Sunday night’s comeback pair.

The first 35 minutes of the first episode, “blonded LSD,” was an “original score” by Ocean set to a conversation about micro-dosing and psychedelics with Dr. James Fadiman. The second episode, “blonded ENERGY” began shortly thereafter with a different score by Ocean, set to a conversation with Qigong teacher, Mingtong Gu.

People were thoroughly confused on social media when the first episode dropped. “Listening to new blonded radio and it’s just a speech about doing drugs over a dance beat. Im here for the Frank Ocean psychedelic arc,” one user said.

Nobody said this was going to be a straightforward comeback, but are you surprised?

Pearl Jam Was Joined By Johnny Marr On Stage In London To Play Songs By Neil Young And The Who

This past weekend, Pearl Jam headlined the two-day extravaganza known as British Summer Time at London’s Hyde Park. Eddie Vedder and company closed out both Friday and Saturday night concerts and were supported by acts like The Pixies, Stereophonics, Cat Power, and Johnny Marr. Pearl Jam pulled out a lot of stops throughout the weekend, but none were as momentous as during their Saturday night closing set, when Marr joined them on stage for two classic covers.

Marr, who made a name for himself as the lead guitarist of The Smiths, was welcomed onto the stage by Vedder and they played Neil Young’s “Throw Your Hatred Down” together. Then as the 22-song set was coming to a close, Marr came back on stage to join Pearl Jam (and a lot of Londoners singing along) in an explosive rendition of The Who’s “Baba O’Riley.” It was all captured on a surreal video board setup.

At Pearl Jam’s performance the night before, famed tennis bad boy John McEnroe them on guitar. Given that Wimbledon was currently happening in London, this was a masterstroke in Pearl jam’s thematic guest bag of tricks. Simon Townshend (the brother of The Who’s Pete Townshend, who tours with the band) also came up on stage to duet his song “I Am The Answer” with Vedder.

Watch Johnny Marr join Pearl Jam to perform The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” above and check out them performing Neil Young’s “Throw Your Hatred Down” below.

Back-to-the-office never felt this at home

Back to work? This product will make you feel like you *almost* never left your living room. Ok, it will at least let you bring some of your family and friends with you… without having to organize guest parking for the entire crew. Because what looks like a classic picture frame is actually so much more. Here’s how it works:

This Skylight Frame is a digital picture frame! If you’re not sure what that means, think photo screensaver that’s constantly being updated. And it’s beyond easy to send pictures too, so there’s never a hassle of having to update it or plug it in to download new photos.

The frame is a touch screen so you can easily connect to WiFi just like you would with any other device. Then, you can create your own unique Skylight email address for the frame. After that you can forward your favorite pics and the frame will almost instantly add those photos into the queue. It can surprise you with its own slide show settings (think shuffle) or you can select an order (think newest to oldest) for your slideshow. This feature is really the best part about this digital frame, because it’s always showing something new.

And because you can give out the email address to your friends and family and they can also send you pictures on their own! That way the photo album will continue to update with all of the best adventures and you can be treated to a surprise while you’re at your desk… just as long as the surprises are all work appropriate.

That being said, this frame really is better when shared. It has tons of cool features, like a small heart that you can click to “like” a photo and let whoever sent it to you know that it made your day a little brighter. You can also pause the slide show at any time and hold on one picture for a few minutes or the whole day. This feature is especially handy if you’re going to a meeting or heading away from your desk.

There are other settings that allow you to control the flow and display of the slideshow. It’s complete customizable and there are tons of new features to explore. It’s almost like being on social media, but instead of being flooded with photos of people you went to high school with, you only get the best, silliest, happiest photos from people you love.

But, if you’re going for a more posh aesthetic or if you want the frame to showcase your vision board, that’s also totally doable. You can self-curate slide shows or limit the amount of photos displayed. Because of the simple features and easy to use touchscreen, this frame is an easy addition for your desk. And it just might soften the blow of being back in the office… even if it’s just a little bit.

Check it out now, and see what all the hype’s about.

Enjoy great sustainable coffee that gives back

Despite being one of the world’s most sought after drinks, coffee is still a source of enviromental degradation, child labor, animal abuse and even slavery in many parts of the world. So, how do we enjoy a cup of coffee knowing that it could further contribute to these issues? By buying from a coffee roaster that actively works towards reducing their carbon footprint, sources sustainable beans from local coffee farms and cooperatives, and gives back to a non-profit that works on projects in developing countries. Just like the Volcanica Coffee Company.

The Volcanica Coffee Company is a family owned business based in Atlanta, Georgia. They specialize in roasting specialty and exotic coffees and donate one percent of sales from their website to charity: water, a non-profit organization that raises funds for a variety of water related projects in developing countries.

Did you know that moderate coffee consumption may actually be good for you? Even though early studies indicated that coffee might be bad for your health, recent research has concluded that moderate coffee consumption has many health benefits that are more beneficial than detrimental. In addition, a wide array of studies indicate that coffee consumption can lead to less burn out, better mental performance, and help with focus and attention.

Volcanica Coffee Roasters provide a unique variety of coffees, including naturally low acid coffee which is grown in areas where the soil and altitude conditions affect the pH of the coffee. When selecting a low acid coffee, Volcanica Coffee Company recommends listening to your body and seeing how your stomach reacts. If you’re looking for a low acid coffee, try the Brazil Estate Coffee, which is a single origin coffee that has a pH of 5.3 and is Rainforest Alliance Certified.

It has been said that adventure in life is good, consistency in coffee is even better. Good coffee roasting can provide great consistency, since coffee roasting can considerably influence the taste and composition of your java. All of the coffees produced by The Volcanic Coffee Company are freshly roasted in Atlanta to ensure a consistent standard.

If you’re looking for a delicious daily sipper, try the organically grown Ethiopian Yirgacheffe, that’s grown in a region known for its flowery and sweet tasting notes. Or purchase a bag of the well-balanced El Salvador coffee, that’s Fair Trade Certified. If you’re looking for a high-end coffee, the Costa Rica Geisha is popular because of its sweet tasting notes. It also has thirty percent less caffeine than most other coffees.

Need the perfect gift for a coffee lover. Try the Four Pack Coffee Gift Boxes, which come in different variations like Exotic Peaberry, World Traveler and Classic Gourmet.

The band tweeted out a live performance video of a song called “Colours Fly” on Sunday, which they debuted at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound Festival last month. Along with the preview clip in the tweet, was a link to a high quality youtube video of the performance. Miles Teller Says He’s Been ‘Having Some Conversations’ With Tom Cruise About A Third ‘Top Gun’

Pending some dark horse candidate, the biggest money-gobbling movie of the summer looks like it’s going to be a belated sequel starring a guy who just turned 60 that execs toyed with dumping on some streamer. Top Gun: Maverick is in its seventh weekend of release and it’s still Hoovering up cash. The movie ends on an elegiac note, albeit one that leaves things open for a threequel. And lo and behold, that may wind up happening sooner rather than later.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, one of the film’s top supporting actors — Miles Teller, who plays the son of Anthony Edwards’ deceased Goose — reveals that he and “TC” are already in talks to get Pete “Maverick” Mitchell back up in the skies.

“That would be great, but that’s all up to TC,” Teller said. “It’s all up to Tom. I’ve been having some conversations with him about it. We’ll see.” He added, “For him to share Top Gun with me and a lot of these other young actors it’s just been such a wild ride, and it’s still going.”

If so, Teller might have go back to boot camp. Maverick was filmed four whole years ago, then sat on a shelf for two years, waiting out the worst of the pandemic. Prep already broke him the last time, but who knows? Maybe he’ll have another chance to get sick in front of one of the world’s biggest movie stars.

Danilo Gallinari Joined The Celtics After Being Waived By The Spurs

Danilo Gallinari is quite literally seeking out greener pastures. Gallinari, the sharpshooting veteran big man, was traded by the Atlanta Hawks to the San Antonio Spurs in the blockbuster pre-free agency deal that sent Dejounte Murray to the Eastern Conference. From the jump, rumors circulated that Gallinari was not going to spend all that much time in San Antonio, which looks like it is going to spend the next year with one eye on the 2023 NBA Draft.

As such, it was reported that the Spurs would waive Gallinari, after the trade became official. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported that once that happened, the Italian forward’s preference was to end up in Boston as a member of the Celtics.

Sure enough, a week later, the deal officially got done, with Gallinari working out a two-year deal worth just under $14 million with a fully guaranteed player option in the second year.

Gallinari joined the Hawks as a big-name free agent back in 2020. Last season, he appeared in 68 games with 18 starts, and averaged 11.7 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 1.5 assists in 25.3 minutes per game while hitting 43.4 percent of his shot attempts from the field and 38.1 percent of his threes. The Celtics are now almost assuredly done making significant moves after signing Gallinari and trading for Malcolm Brogdon, but will feel like they improved on roster weaknesses by adding another ball-handler in Brogdon and an additional scoring option on the wing in Gallinari.

A Lil Baby Fan Got Destroyed By Security When They Rushed The Stage, And Lil Baby Was Concerned

The past couple of weekends have been filled with incidents between artists and fans at music festivals. First, Lil Uzi Vert was accused of hitting a fan in the face with a cell phone at London’s Wireless Festival after he threw one into the crowd. After that, Cardi B seemingly got into a scuffle with someone at that same Wireless Festival after they grabbed her hair. Lastly, Roddy Ricch quite literally kicked a fan offstage after they rushed toward him at Switzerland’s Openair Frauenfeld Festival. Now, an incident involving Lil Baby at that same Swiss festival joins that list.

Lil Baby was performing his 2020 record “On Me” at the Openair Frauenfeld Festival when a fan rushed the stage. it seemed like they got onstage with the hope of interacting with Lil Baby, but that attempt was quickly put to an end after a security guard pushed the individual off the stage and into the front row barricade. The security guard’s reaction seemingly took Lil Baby by surprise as he paused the show to make sure the individual was okay.

You can watch the fan get tossed off the stage in the video above.

Some artists covered here are Warner Music artists. Uproxx is an independent subsidiary of Warner Music Group.
