The Yankees Scored Two Runs After Red Sox OF Christian Arroyo Completely Lost A Pop Fly In The Lights

The New York Yankees have earned the best record in baseball this season in large part because their lineup of small and power forwards launch balls into the second deck with regularity. Entering Friday night’s slate of games, the Yankees — who are in Fenway Park to take on the Boston Red Sox — as a team hit 141 dingers, 14 more than the team with the second most in all of baseball.

While they added to that total on Friday, their most notable at-bat of the evening came when Joey Gallo hit a pop fly into right field in the top of the third inning. With runners on second and third and New York leading, 5-2, Gallo took an offering from Connor Seabold and didn’t quite get enough of it, which led to a lazy pop-up just shy of the warning track.

The issue for the Red Sox was the team’s right fielder, Christian Arroyo, completely lost the ball in the lights. This meant the ball — which landed, like, 10 yards behind him — hit the ground and rolled slowly onto the track, letting Gallo drive in a pair of runs.

Gallo ended up getting a triple out of this, but got greedy and tried for home, where he ended up getting thrown out. In fairness, you probably can’t blame him for pressing his luck considering how this at-bat went.

New Lakers Coach Darvin Ham Has ‘A Clear Plan’ For How He’ll Use Russell Westbrook

Russell Westbrook joined the Los Angeles Lakers last offseason. Despite that, the former league MVP saw his name come up in trade rumors ahead of last season’s deadline, and in the aftermath of the team’s disappointing 2021-22 campaign, Westbrook once again got linked with a move away from Los Angeles via a trade.

As of now, Westbrook is still on the Lakers, even if there has been a whole lot of speculation that he could be headed to Brooklyn in a move that reunites LeBron James with Kyrie Irving. And in a recent interview with Marc Spears of Andscape, new Lakers coach Darvin Ham indicated that he already knows how he wants to Westbrook in Los Angeles this season.

“Counted out prematurely,” Ham said of Westbrook. “Counted out. Prematurely. I’ve had some great interactions with Russ, in person, over dinner, over the phone, over text messages. I love Russell Westbrook, man. Just his mentality, his approach. Just to see him, a guy of that magnitude and everything he’s done in the league to get hated on. But being me, I got a wholehearted plan, a clear plan on how I’m going to use him. I showed it to him, sat down, brought stuff up for him. I think he’s going to flourish. We ain’t going to try to curtail his energy. We’re just going to diversify it, redirect it.”

Ham went on to state that he plans on using Westbrook in the team’s starting lineup this season. This is not the first time that Ham, who will fill in for the recently-fired Frank Vogel, has praised Westbrook ahead of the 2022-23 season. Whether or not he gets to work with him, however, remains to be seen.

Jaden Hardy Looked Like The Prized Recruit He Was In High School During His Summer League Debut

Jaden Hardy fell to the second round of the 2022 NBA Draft, a huge disappointment for a prospect that was ranked in the top-5 of the 2021 high school class. Hardy, who was considered the No. 1 combo guard prospect in the country, bypassed the college experience to play with the G League Ignite last season, but his scoring efficiency issues throughout the campaign hurt his draft stock.

Before he was selected with the 37th pick by the Dallas Mavericks, Hardy was projected as a mid-to-late first round pick and even received an invitation to the green room. Instead, he fell to the second round, but landed on a Mavericks team that is constantly looking for backcourt reinforcements alongside Luka Doncic. That’s especially true in the aftermath of Jalen Brunson joining the New York Knicks. On Friday, we got our first taste of Hardy in Summer League, where he flashed the tantalizing skill set that made him a highly-touted recruit in a 100-99 overtime loss to the Chicago Bulls.

Summer League is a playground for a player with Hardy’s skill set. Hardy is a natural scorer who can pull from anywhere and has never let doubt creep into his mind. He scored 28 points on 9-for-19 shooting while displaying a silky smooth handle and jumper that dazzled the Las Vegas crowd. Hardy even showed a determination to drive to the rim and shot 11 free throws.

Brunson’s departure means Hardy will get an opportunity to earn a rotation spot with the Mavs. His efficiency struggles in the G League were not due to a lack of ability — the Ignite consistently had poor spacing that made shots in the paint difficult, but Hardy was still talented enough to be entrusted with the primary scoring responsibilities for the team. On the Mavericks, Hardy will have a simplified role that will allow him to play in space and showcase his talent appropriately.

Next up for Hardy and the Mavericks is a Monday night tilt against the Utah Jazz.

Is a raw food diet right for your dog?

As dog owners, we all know that finding the right food for our pups is important. We want to feed them a well-balanced diet that supports their immune system and gives them enough energy to play. After all, our pets are family.

When it comes to dog food there are a lot of current trends and marketing terms that can be confusing for dog owners- raw diet, kibble, grain-free, natural, holistic, organic. The terms can be difficult to understand. Luckily, the Ohio State University’s Veterinary Medical Center has published a guide that breaks down all of the current pet food trends into easy and understandable information. Now, it’s easy to interpret what’s in our dog’s food and whether or not it’s healthy for them.

Image via petplate.com

Which diet is best for your dog?

It depends. Always consult with your veterinary professional when deciding your dog’s diet because every pet is different. Some dogs will require soft foods or raw diets because of dental or health issues. Others are perfectly fine with hard kibble. Your vet should have brand recommendations and give you places to purchase your dog’s food. If they don’t, you can always chat with the professionals at your local pet store for specific brand information.

Should you go raw?

While there is no scientific evidence that raw food is more beneficial to a dog’s diet than kibble, a raw diet does give owners peace of mind by knowing exactly what your dog is eating.

That being said, owners need to be careful when handling raw food. The Ohio State Veterinary Guide notes that without proper care, raw food can put you and your dog at risk for food born illness. Similarly, a poorly planned diet without proper nutrients can lead to illness and injury in your dog.

We’ve found that a great solution to these issues is Petplate, a dog food service that uses vet-designed recipes to create a well-balanced raw food diet specifically designed for your pup. Petplate uses a USDA kitchen to freshly prepare every meal, so you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your pets are safe from dangerous microbes. They’re designed to be breathable so that they can be used in year-round climates and fit perfectly on your bed with minimal overhang. Use them on top of your duvet or between the sheets for that added bit of swaddled comfort year-round. Check them out here and use the code UPWORTHY to get 15% off your order from June 15 – July 15!

Well this mask was designed for deep contemplation. With a crystal pouch over the third eye chakra it’s a great way to help open one of your eyes while your other two drift off into your sub-conscious. Chose amethyst for grounding, rose quartz for stress relief, agate for balance or fluorite for intuition and let the energy of the crystal go to work while you drift off to sleep. This mask is sound muffling, light blocking and supremely comfortable – making it a MUST for your sleep routine.

But crystal sleep masks are the only part of Baloo that get a little *woo-woo*, and we’re not mad about it. Their Tone Therapy Speakers give you that fresh sound bath feel, anywhere. The pair play sounds that wash meditative tones over you for three minutes twice a day. Use them in the morning so you can ensure that you wake up on the “right” side of the bed and again at night so you can go to sleep feeling that sound bath *ahhh*.

Baloo’s partnered with SeaTrees by Sustainable Surf to help plant mangroves along the island of Biak, Indonesia and also to reintroduce kelp forests off the coast of California. Both of these initiatives help boost local ecosystems and can sequester five times more carbon than tropical rain forests!

And that’s not the only way that Baloo gives back. They also donate a portion of their profits to the Pajama Project, an initiative dedicated to providing the most vulnerable children, like those that are houseless or living in foster care, with new pajamas and a book to read for a reassuring bedtime.

Which is essentially what Baloo is all about! So snuggle up sustainably with Baloo’s weighted blankets. Order now and take 15% off with the code UPWORTHY through July 15th!

Anthony Edwards Holds The Keys To The Timberwolves’ Rudy Gobert Experiment

The things that drew the Minnesota Timberwolves to Anthony Edwards when they made him the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft will be what make or break this grand experiment that new management has shepherded in after giving up the franchise’s future for Rudy Gobert.

Back then, general manager Gersson Rosas praised Edwards’ humility, raw athleticism, talent, and competitive drive. Edwards understood as early as his draft workouts in Minnesota which shots he would be taking within the team’s offense, and came to appreciate the chance to build something with other young players after one up and down season at Georgia. Following an impressive first two NBA seasons and a brilliant yet inconsistent playoff debut, Edwards’ ability to adjust and rise to the occasion to finish that construction project will be tested as the Wolves bring in Gobert and shoot to host a playoff series for the first time since 2004.

Picture this: Edwards lopes up the floor, ball in hand, then shakes past a screen from Gobert and slings a pass to a lifting Karl-Anthony Towns, who nails a three. It’s the ideal vision of Minnesota’s offense after it gave up a motherlode for Gobert in a trade with the Utah Jazz last week. But that vision requires a significant amount of squinting to clearly see today.

By making a bet on Gobert to catapult the Wolves from solid to something better, Minnesota management also made a bet that their exciting young cornerstone can catapult himself to a similar height. The organization correctly bet on Edwards despite criticism ahead of the 2020 draft, but he succeeded largely playing off others his first two seasons. His confidence was a bonus, not a necessity; he could afford to fail.

Now, Edwards will need to chisel his offensive profile into something more efficient and consistent while also making good on the defensive potential that has mostly only been theoretical to this point. It will be important whether better perimeter talent helps Gobert on both ends, and whether Towns can recreate some of the interior playmaking magic that head coach Chris Finch schemed up in New Orleans and Denver. Even if D’Angelo Russell getting benched in the closeout game against Memphis in the postseason this year wasn’t a sign that he isn’t staying with the team long-term, Edwards is clearly the player with the most to grow into and the most dynamic ability.

Edwards was not first in usage rate in either of his first two seasons with Minnesota, and has often existed in his own silo within the team’s offense. When Edwards did lean on his teammates, he excelled spotting up away from the action or dominating in transition.

By trading away Patrick Beverley and Malik Beasley in the Gobert deal, the Wolves are making a bet that Edwards can adapt and become a lead option. And despite some questionable decision-making and inefficiencies in his game, Edwards can still be lethal. Almost 40 percent of his shots have come at the rim in his career, and he drives the ball to the rim almost 10 times per game. For someone who often played with at least two other ball-handlers and often multiple weak shooters last season, Edwards proved to be a strong facilitator and the Wolves’ offense was 2.3 points better per 100 possessions when he was on the floor, per Cleaning the Glass.

In a seven-game run from the play-in through a near defeat of the Grizzlies in round one this spring, Edwards cut down on his turnovers and increased his number of pick-and-rolls and isos. His efficiency skyrocketed. At the same time, he dipped into those early memories regarding shot selection and turned into one of the best high-volume shooters in the postseason, hoisting almost 10 triples per game and making nearly 40 percent of them. He took over in a play-in matchup against the Clippers, nailing five of his 11 attempts from three and scoring 10 points in the final period.

With Gobert in the mix, Edwards will likely need to become more comfortable in the pick-and-roll. That means developing the drop passes and lobs necessary to utilize the rolling big man in those spots. Minnesota has ensured by keeping Jaden McDaniels that there will likely be solid shooting around those pick-and-rolls at all times, and Edwards will likely utilize the upcoming regular season to improve making reads as a ball-handler.

At the same time, Finch could build in more offense that starts with a dribble handoff at the elbow or behind the arc. The Wolves rarely started possessions that way this year but it’s an easy way to simplify what Edwards and Russell have to do while also taking advantage of the screening, passing and gravity of both Towns and Gobert.

On defense, Edwards has the 7-foot wingspan, functional strength, and competitive energy to be good, if not great. Rosas told The Ringer’s Jonathan Tjarks in 2020 that he loved Edwards’ “edge,” “toughness,” and “grit.” Those qualities are obvious whenever Edwards takes the floor, and when combined with physical tools, they ought to be enough to help a player lock down on defense. Gobert’s presence should help here, too. The Jazz finished in the top half of the NBA on defense each season that Gobert was a starter under Quin Snyder, even as the perimeter defense around Gobert worsened. But young players who have these attributes don’t always turn into routinely dominant defenders — for every Dwyane Wade, there’s a Donovan Mitchell.

In most situations, teams take a big swing like Minnesota just made with Gobert when they are very close to a championship. This is what a team like the Suns are hoping for if they trade for Kevin Durant. A big reason this Wolves trade has been so widely panned from a value standpoint is that they only just made the playoffs with this core for the first time. They are not, in all likelihood, one move away from a title.

Beyond that, in recent years, when NBA teams have bet on young players and ponied up to accelerate their timeline, it has been a player that is closer to Towns’ level than the younger Edwards: the Sixers signed Al Horford and traded for Tobias Harris to lift the Process youngsters; the Suns got Chris Paul to make a commitment to Devin Booker; the Celtics traded for Kyrie Irving to win with a young duo of stud wing players.

Instead, while Towns is an excellent player, this move was an admission of the limits of his game. Gobert will protect the rim in a way he simply cannot, and provide additional rebounding size and physicality to help make Towns better — while Towns will, in theory, be used to space the floor more than ever with Gobert around, trying to rebound against the Timberwolves when the two of them are crashing the glass together is going to be extremely difficult. It’s hard to imagine Minnesota made this trade with the idea that Towns would develop newfound skills overnight.

Which brings us back to Edwards. At 20 years old with a 20 point per game season and a 36-point playoff game under his belt already, Ant is one of the brightest young stars in the league. The team acquired Gobert using future first-round draft picks that, not coincidentally, will line up with Edwards’ best seasons. If he hits, really hits, like the top-10 NBA player he has the potential to become, those picks become less valuable and more reasonable to give up. For this grand Minnesota experiment to work, his trademark flair and conviction must translate into the consistency and two-way play requisite of a top-flight NBA wing.

Tyler The Creator Slams His Former Collaborators For Selling Old Demos Of His: ‘U Thirsty As Hell’

It doesn’t look like Tyler The Creator‘s decade-plus long feud with Bastard collaborator Brandun Deshay is ending anytime soon. This past Thursday, Tyler took to Twitter to express his disdain toward Deshay, now known as Ace Hashimoto, along with Tyler Major, for selling old demo tracks via Discord.

“b deshay and tyler major selling old songs of mine is wild ha,” Tyler said in a tweet, “all them discordd kids are sus especially 3D glass pacifist whatever the hell he called, copping stolen shit is like damnnnn u thirsty as hell ok.”

Tyler doubled down on his comments and even slammed the fans who were buying these demos.

“damn bro you that thirsty for 2 minute drafts / few hundred bucks get it together fellas,” he tweeted, “subliminal tried to get on a call like no bro, just stop, its not cool dawggy.”

Given his reservations about sharing his unfinished demos with the world, it is clear Tyler is protective of his craft. Back in March, Tyler also expressed his disinterest in non-fungible tokens during an interview for Converse’s 2022 All Star series. Instead, he prefers to direct his energy toward quality production and instrumentation.

“What the f*ck is a NFT?” he said. “I paint at home, I play instruments. … I have a friend who’s making me speakers by hand right now. What the f*ck is a NFT? None of the examples I’ve seen is, like, beautiful art. It’s a f*cking monkey in a Supreme hoodie.”

Report: Damian Lillard Agreed To A 2-Year, $120 Million Max Extension With The Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers engaged in a little light tanking last year once Damian Lillard was sidelined for the season with an abdominal injury, trading away CJ McCollum, Norman Powell, and others to clear space in the future, but after securing the No. 7 pick (and taking Shaedon Sharpe), they have spent the offseason gearing up for another run at the playoffs around their star.

Their first move was trading for Jerami Grant, a long-rumored target of Portland, by sending a 2025 first round pick of the Bucks to Detroit. They then got to work on their own free agents, starting with a 4-year, $100 million deal for Anfernee Simons to step into the McCollum role of being the starting two-guard next to Lillard, and on Friday afternoon, the team came to terms on a 2-year, $120 million max extension with their star, per Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports and Shams Charania of The Athletic.

As Charania pointed out, Lillard is now under contract with the Blazers for the next five years and is owed $270 million.

It’s not a surprise that Lillard will tack on two more years, taking his deal through 2026, as his desire to be a Blazer lifer has been well-established. For Portland, they’re hoping that a new cast around him can take them to new heights, with new leadership in the front office that’s willing to try different strategies and be more aggressive in making moves to bring in complementary talent around Lillard.
