Adele Shares How Postponing Her Las Vegas Residency Affected Her: ‘I Was A Shell Of A Person’

This past weekend, Adele held her first pair of public and live shows in five years with a pair of performances at BST Hyde Park in London. It was an epic weekend that featured an all-female lineup of performers that included Kacey Musgraves, Gabrielle, Mahalia, Self Esteem, Nilüfer Yanya, Tiana Major9, Chrissi, Bonnie Kemplay, Ruti, and Tamzene. Adele herself made sure to dazzle the crowd as she delivered a pair of two-hour sets that included her recent favorites and older classics. However, if Adele had it her way, her performances at BST Hyde Park shouldn’t have been her first live shows in a half-decade.

That’s because Adele was supposed to kick off 2022 with her Weekends With Adele Las Vegas residency, which she was forced to postpone due to COVID delays. In a recent interview with Lauren Laverne from BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, Adele explained how the residency’s postponement affected her. “I definitely felt everyone’s disappointment and I was devastated and I was frightened about letting them down,” she said. “I thought I could pull it together and make it work and I couldn’t. I don’t think any other artist would have done what I did, and I think that is why it was such a massive, massive story.”

Adele later added that she “was a shell of a person for a couple of months” after postponing the residency. “I just had to wait it out and just grieve it, I guess, just grieve the shows and get over the guilt, but it was brutal.” Despite her feelings, Adele completely stands by her decision to push back the residency. “You can’t buy me for nothing,” she said. “I’m not going to just do a show because I have to or because people are going to be let down or because we’re going to lose loads of money.”

The world is still awaiting new dates for Weekends With Adele, but the singer previously said that it is still “100% happening,” so the new dates should arrive sooner than later.

Bad Bunny Returns To No. 1 On The ‘Billboard’ 200 Thanks To ‘Un Verano Sin Ti’

Back when it was released in early May, Bad Bunny’s fourth album Un Verano Sin Ti debuted at No. 1 for the biggest week of the year at the time. It beat out the sales number that Future’s I Never Liked You previously held to claim that title, but it was later surpassed by Kendrick Lamar’s Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers. In addition to a big week on the Billboard 200, Un Verano Sin Ti also had Spotify’s biggest-ever streaming day in its first 24 hours after the album was released. With all that being said, it’s safe to say that Bad Bunny’s fourth album is a big success, one that continues almost two months after its release.

For the Billboard 200 chart dated July 9, 2022, Bad Bunny made another return to No. 1 with Un Verano Sin Ti. Its surge back to the top of the charts was propelled by 115,000 album units sold this past week. A good streaming week largely contributed to the album’s return to No. 1 as that number is comprised of 114,000 streaming equivalent album units.

Un Verano Sin Ti has managed to earn over 100,000 album units sold in each of its first eight weeks, something that hasn’t been done since Drake’s 2016 album Views did it for ten weeks between May 21 – July 23, 2016. Un Verano Sin Ti is also the first album to make three separate visits to No. 1 and the first to spend its first eight weeks in the top two positions of the chart since Drake’s 2021 album Certified Lover Boy.

Un Verano Sin Ti is out now via Rimas Entertainment LLC. You can stream it here.

What’s Popular On Streaming Right Now

Multiple times per week, our TV and film experts will list the most important ten streaming selections for you to pop into your queues. We’re not strictly operating upon reviews or accrued streaming clicks (although yes, we’ve scoured the streaming site charts and ratings) but, instead, upon those selections that are really worth noticing amid the churning sea of content. There’s a lot out there, after all, and your time is valuable.

TIE: 10. Ms. Marvel (HBO Max series)

The Marvel shows can’t seem to stop, but with this one, we’re receiving a sneak peak of the youngest piece of dynamite coming in 2023’s The Marvels, which will also obviously feature Carol Danvers (Brie Larson) and Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Paris). Iman Vallani makes her debut as Kamala Khan, a Captain Marvel superfan whose characters differ in substance and origin from the comics. Don’t worry, that’s for the best even if it is slightly controversial for those who don’t like adjustments to the canon. Lighten up because this show is a breeze.

TIE: 10. Dark Winds (AMC+ series)

FX’s Reservation Dogs led the way last year in bringing indigenous writers to the forefront of their own Native American stories. This series also happens to be produced by George R.R. Martin (because can you blame him for delaying The Winds Of Winter a bit longer in favor of different winds?) and follows 1970s Navajo cops who are dealing with murder and other ominous happenings near Monument Valley-tangential outpost. What they see makes them question everything that they’ve ever been told or believed, and it’s a sleeper of a show that’s worth queuing up.

9. Peaky Blinders (BBC One/Netflix series)

This addictive series is still as cool and addictive as always, but it’s all coming to an end now, at least temporarily, for Cillian Murphy’s Tommy Fookin’ Shelby, but the good news is this: this show’s swagger will be back, either in movie or spinoff form. Shelby’s journey points him toward America and a fresh-ish beginning, but before that happens, the gang’s got more confrontations and Cockney rhyming profanity while the show also does not ignore the untimely passing of Helen McRory.

8. Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe (Paramount+ movie)

If you’re familiar with the MTV series, then you know that this show isn’t exactly brainiac material. Mike Judge’s couch slackers also mostly rely on one joke, but what a joke it is. Revisit all the buttmunch jokes and, for that manner, a lot of mentions of butts, and thank goodness Cornholio still needs TP for his bunghole. “Do you have any…. olio?” This wave of pointless-yet-entertaining nostalgia couldn’t be more welcome on the heels of Top Gun: Maverick will striking a very different tone. God, I missed these two idiots. They’ll help you forget about the dumpster fire of today’s very serious world, and that spirit couldn’t be more appreciated than right now.

7. Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness (Disney+ movie)

Benedict Cumberbatch’s title character alerted Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man to the one chance the Avengers had to stopping Thanos, but since then, the Sorcerer Supreme’s been absolute chaos. He f*cked around and found out with the multiverse, and Wanda Maximoff was not pleased going into this film after she broke the rules and actually faced consequences. As a bonus, as well, this film turned out to essentially be an Evil Dead movie from director Sam Raimi with a few other notable cameos that should help to integrate the Marvel characters previously snatched up by Fox.

6. Only Murders In The Building (Hulu series)

Heck yes, this dream team is back with Selena Gomez alerting everyone to the many reasons why she’s been underappreciated in Hollywood, until recently. The first season wrapped up while perfectly unwrapped and the season begins with a few new guest stars and everyone buzzing about “Bloody Mabel.” One of those guests actually ends up being a romantic interest for Mabel, but I don’t trust the newbie! Everyone’s a suspect, man. And everyone should be very clear that Gomez is a fantastic costar while bouncing perfectly off Steve Martin and Martin Short. This second season turned around in less than a year, and as previously, it’ll hook you on a weekly basis.

5. The Umbrella Academy (Netflix series)

Get your dancing shoes on because The Hargreeves siblings begin this sublime season in a gleeful way, despite the fact that they’re about to deal with yet another world-shattering timeline disruption. Elliot Page’s Victor makes his formal debut this season, all while the Sparrow Academy’s antagonizing the O.G. Hargreeves siblings. This show continues to strike a careful balance between “overstuffed” and “still character based,” all while literally dancing through the quirky, action-filled mayhem.

3. The Boys (Amazon Prime series)

The show followed up the “Herogasm” episode with a major revelation that lines up a spectacular confrontation in the upcoming season finale. Meanwhile, the world still hasn’t recovered from The Deep’s octopus fetish, but hold tight because Black Noir and Mother’s Milk are both ones to watch as well. This show consistently manages to skewer superheroes while going way too far in the most skilled way possible. Who needs restraint, anyway?

2. The Bear (FX series streaming on Hulu)

You may not be able to stop shouting “Chef!” after watching this show that’s ultimately about finding one’s own family. It’s an intense story about a high-pressure working environment as a former fine dining chef (Jeremy Allen White, back in Chicago) tries to wrap his arms around running his family’s sandwich shop. He’s got some trauma embedded deep inside, and White is supported by some stellar players, including a megaphone-wielding Ebon Moss-Bachrach and a perspective-sharing sous chef played by Ayo Edebir. The title means something, of course, and you gotta watch to find out.

1. Stranger Things (Netflix series)

The final (enormously long) episodes of this fourth season finally arrived, and the Duffer brothers prepare to close in on their final season production but not without crashing Netflix’s servers in the process. Millie Bobbie Brown publicly hoped for some Game of Thrones-style deaths, but will she receive her wish? There’s absolutely no telling, but expect for this season to at least reap some Emmy nominations that will challenge Thrones in the record-holding department. Happy streaming.

Gavin Newsom Torches Ron DeSantis In New Ad Airing In Florida: ‘Freedom Is Under Attack In Your State’

There’s a chance — maybe a small one — that the Jan. 6 hearings will end with Donald Trump either barred from a third presidential campaign or sued into oblivion (or, heck, maybe jailed). But there’s another far right boogeyman to take his place: Ron DeSantis, the bullying Florida governor, who’s gone to war with the LGBTQIA+ community and even his state’s biggest employer. It’s gotten so bad that another governor from another state bought air time to trash him.

As per CNN, California leader Gavin Newsom spent over $100,000 to run ads over the July 4 weekend in the Sunshine State in which he lays out how bad things have gotten there.

“Freedom is under attack in your state,” Newsom says in the ad. He then lays out ways DeSantis and team have come for the citizenry: banning books, making voting difficult, curtailing abortions, and, of course, his so-called “Don’t Say Gay” bill, which restricts the mention of LGBTQIA+ issues in schools.

“I urge all of you living in Florida to join the fight,” Newsom says, adding, “or join us in California, where we still believe in freedom: Freedom of speech, freedom to choose, freedom from hate, and the freedom to love.”

The two governors have frequently clashed before, and the rivalry has no signs of dissipating. When reached for comment about Newsom’s ad, a DeSantis spokesperson simply mocked it. “Gavin Newsom might as well light a pile of cash on fire,” said Dave Abrams. “Pass the popcorn for his desperate attempt to win back the California refugees who fled the hellhole he created in his state to come to Florida.”

You can watch the ad in the video above.

Big Sean And Jhene Aiko Appear To Be Expecting Their First Child Together

Big Sean and Jhene Aiko have been together on and off since 2016. However, their collaborations through music date back to 20131when Sean recruited Jhene for “I’m Gonna Be” from his 2012 mixtape Detroit. Since then, the couple has joined forces for numerous songs like “Beware,” “I Know,” “Same Time Pt. 1,” “None Of Your Concern,” “Body Language,” and more. Sean and Jhene even formed a duo called Twenty88 in 2016 and released a self-titled project. They recently said that the duo’s second project is on the way. While many people are waiting on that collaboration to come to fruition, Sean and Jhene have something — or someone — sweeter on the way.

Thanks to some pictures captured by TMZ, it appears that Sean and Jhene are expecting their first child together. It’s unclear how far along Jhene is in her pregnancy as neither she or Sean have confirmed or spoken about the child. If this proves to be true, the baby would be Jhene’s second child, as she is already a mother to her 13-year-old daughter Namiko Love Browner, whom she shares with ex-boyfriend O’Ryan. As for Sean, this will be his first child.

This is seemingly not the couple’s first attempt at having a child as back in 2020, Sean alluded to Jhene suffering a miscarriage. “Should be a billionaire based on the time off I’m not takin,’” he rapped on “Deep Reverence.” “Probably why the sh*t with me get crazy and we lost a baby.”

You can see the TMZ-captured photos of Jhene and Sean here.

LeBron James Reportedly Wants Kyrie Irving On The Lakers ‘More Than Anyone’

With Kevin Durant asking out of Brooklyn, the belief that Kyrie Irving would spend next season on the Nets after opting into the last year on his contract has been shortlived. While the majority of the league prepares their best prospective trade packages for Durant and the Nets, suitors for Irving are far more limited.

Irving is signaling that he’s only interested in playing for the Lakers, which means another team would have to want to add Kyrie when he doesn’t want to be there, which is a major risk, when considering what has happened to the last two teams that have done so when he’s chosen them, few are willing to take. As such, pretty much every Irving rumor popping up involves the Lakers, with Chris Haynes reporting on Saturday that there were active talks about an Irving for Russell Westbrook swap, which would reunite Irving with LeBron James and, ever so briefly, Westbrook with Durant.

While Haynes would double back and pour a bit of cold water on his own rumors by noting talks were more preliminary than advanced, it sure seems like a Westbrook-Irving swap has real legs. Marc Stein added to that on Sunday in his newsletter, proclaiming that the driving force behind L.A.’s interest is none other than LeBron James.

James, I’m told, wants to see Irving in Lakerland more than anyone. What other team, furthermore, has a LeBron-sized personality with the experience to cope with all the chaos that comes with adding Kyrie? James, remember, has often thrived in chaos.

James and Irving have publicly squashed any lingering beef they had over Irving’s 2017 departure from Cleveland in recent years, and it seems both view this as an opportunity not only to fully reconcile but also that it’s their best chance to win. For all of Kyrie’s faults off the court, he’s more productive on it currently than Westbrook, which is surely appealing to James considering his ever-closing window at the age of 37. As for Kyrie, he comes from the only situation that could make the Lakers look tame, and he’s well aware of the expectations that come with playing with LeBron.

Given the Lakers are the only real suitor for Irving, the Nets might put that deal on the backburner until they figure out exactly what a KD trade looks like so they know what to send out and what to prioritize in return alongside Westbrook, but there sure seems to be a stronger than expected chance we see LeBron and Kyrie on the court together again next season.

No, ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ Isn’t Getting A Sequel About Evelyn Becoming Radicalized By Social Media

Today’s moviegoers are so used to franchises that a one-off movie that just ends can seem a touch alien. Such was the case with Everything Everywhere All at Once, the surprise money gobbler in which Michelle Yeoh’s laundromat owner tries not to lose her mind in a multiverse of madness. The action-sci-fi-drama has become A24’s biggest stateside hit, but even before it was, filmmakers Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert — collectively billed as “the Daniels” — seemed to have floated a bonkers ideas for a sequel. Now it turns out that was just a joke.

As caught by The AV Club, The Daniels took to Twitter to shoot down an IndieWire article, which claimed, based on an interview they did with them in March, that the two were planning a follow-up to what would soon become a sleeper hit. At the time, Scheinert addressed how their film never really addresses the Internet, and how Yeoh’s Evelyn, unlike her daughter Joy, is someone who simply never grew up with it.

“Actually, if we ever were to do a sequel to this movie, it would be about Evelyn getting radicalized,” Kwan chimed in. “And then Joy would have to go out and save her mom.”

Alas, that was “not true at all,” the Daniels tweeted. “Don’t even remember making this joke. Must have been back in March when the idea of a sequel was especially comically far fetched to us.”

Sorry! It’s not a terrible idea for a movie, and given their energetic filmmaking style the Daniels would probably make that into a fun commentary on something very real: older people who didn’t grow up with the Internet being easily snookered by misinformation and straight-up nonsense. On the other hand, more movies should simply just end.

Goran Dragic Has Agreed To A One-Year Deal With The Chicago Bulls

Goran Dragic was a key piece of the Miami Heat’s run to the NBA Finals in the Bubble in 2020, but after tearing his plantar fascia in Game 1 of the Finals, he hasn’t quite regained that same level.

Dragic averaged 7.5 points, 4.1 assists, and 3.1 rebounds per game on 37.7/25.4/81.8 shooting splits with the Raptors and Nets in 21 games last season, but did show some positive signs late in his tenure with Brooklyn. He is currently playing for Slovenia in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers alongside Mavs star Luka Doncic, and their close relationship has long brought the expectation that Dallas would bring Dragic in for point guard depth.

However, after not dealing for Dragic at the deadline last year, the Mavs have once again chosen not to bring in the veteran guard, as word broke on Sunday, shortly after Dragic scored 20 in Slovenia’s win over Sweden, that he was headed to Chicago on a one-year deal as they continue to bolster their roster with pieces of the mid-level.

It makes sense for the Bulls to bring Dragic in, as last year they struggled when Lonzo Ball and Alex Caruso spent time sidelined with injuries. While Dragic won’t supplant those two on the defensive side of the ball, he can provide some much needed ball-handling and scoring ability going downhill when healthy.

A Potential Challenger To Kyrsten Sinema Suggests She Should Hold A Town Hall To Explain Why She Thinks The Filibuster Is More Important Than Abortion Rights

Democratic leaders have been torched for not doing much to push back against the overturning of Roe v. Wade, but a lot of their problems would be solved if two senators would play ball. That pair is Kyrsten Sinema and Joe Manchin, both of whom have long stood in the way of progress, refusing to do, among other things, end the filibuster so they can pass key legislation. They’re unlikely to flip-flop, but a challenger to Sinema wants her to do one thing: explain to her constituents why won’t save abortion rights.

As per Raw Story, Democratic representative Ruben Gallego, who is reportedly considering running against in 2024, took to Twitter, suggesting she has town hall in her state. That way, she can “explain your choice to protect an old Senate Rule instead of a woman’s right to an abortion.” He pointed out it’s been a while since she held one, and if it helps, he’ll co-host.

Sinema has not only stood against such hot topics as ending the filibuster, raising the minimum wage, or protecting abortion rights. She also refuses to explain her decisions. This has angered fellow Arizona Democrats, and her polling has long been in the pits. But here’s the chance for her to have a nice chat with her voters, who may also be curious why she’s more worried about people dragging the “thoughts and prayers” crowd than saving 10-year-olds from being forced to give birth.
