You Can Now Have Your Own ‘Auditor Of The Month’ Buttplug-Shaped Trophy From ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ In The Form Of A Fancy Candle

Everyone will love this gift. Estranged parents who just don’t get you will love it. Multiverse-hopping omniscient children will love it. Your friendly local tax auditor, especially, will love it. Fans of Everything Everywhere All At Once may have noticed that Deirdre Beaubeirdre (Jamie Lee Curtis) has a…distinctive…award for her intrepid auditing prowess. It almost looks like a flattened egg or a blunted spearhead or something. Probably very useful in battle. And now you can bring one (or 9) home for every version of yourself to enjoy.

The perfect cinephile gag gift of 2022, A24 has released a candle version of the award with the thematically appropriate scent of dryer sheets. It’s made by artisan studio Joya, which also makes A24’s line of genre candles (“documentary” smells like lotus, lavender, vinegar, Chinese coumarin, blackcurrant, brandy, and oakmoss). Strangely, Joya has the Auditor of the Month candle blurred out on their homepage. Can’t put a finger on why.

Made from 100% beeswax and ready to ship in August, the candle comes in a handsome blue ribbon box with googly eyes. It doesn’t say how long it will burn for, but the genre candles last 60 hours, which should be enough to watch Everything Everywhere All At Once 25 times. You can also get your own 2$ googly eye pack and a fun tax season zine made by Daniels, but the Auditor of the Month candle is perfect for sticking into your stocking or wherever.

And if you still haven’t seen the film many think is one of the most original of its era, it’s still playing in some theaters and is also available for streaming purchase.

Trump Taunted Mike Pence By Calling Him A ‘P*ssy’ On January 6 For Refusing To Help Him Subvert American Democracy, Say Witnesses

Donald Trump thinks Mike Pence is a huge p***y. At least that’s what witnesses say the former president told his vice president on the morning of January 6, presumably after Pence informed his boss that he did not plan to help Trump and co. overturn a completely legitimate election.

As Insider reports, details of the fiery chat were made public during the January 6th select committee’s hearings on Thursday. Ivanka Trump, Donald’s former favorite child, witnessed the interaction, and gave her recounting of what went down during her video recorded testimony. “The conversation was … was pretty heated,” she said, adding that, “It was a different tone than I’d heard him take with the vice president before.”

Julie Radford, Ivanka’s chief of staff, further testified that Jared Kushner’s not-so-better half relayed details of the phone call shortly after it erupted, telling Radford that her pops had just had an “upsetting conversation” with Pence during which he called the VP “the P-word.” (She probably says “H-E double hockey sticks,” too.) Come on, Ivanka—you downplayed your dad bragging about how he likes to grab women by their p***ies, and you can’t even say the word?!

The insults didn’t end there though. Nicholas Luna, an assistant to the president at the time, testified to “hearing the word ‘wimp.’ Either he called him a wimp—I don’t remember if he said, ‘You are a wimp,’ ‘You’ll be a wimp.’ ‘Wimp’ is the word I remember.”

And one Pence will likely never forget.

Please Enjoy Kevin Bacon Reflecting On The Audition In Which He ‘Completely Sh*t The Bed’

It’s tough to imagine Kevin Bacon bombing an audition, but on the latest episode of Hot Ones, he revealed that he had at least one where he “just completely shit the bed.” After taking an embarrassingly tiny bite of a wing covered in Da Bomb’s 135,600 Scoville “Beyond Insanity” hot sauce, Bacon opened up about his time as a young man trying to break into show business by day and trying to get into Studio 54 at night. He made it past the infamous club’s picky doorman Marc Benecke by paying attention to the shoes of the crowd who made it in. And, wouldn’t you know it, Marc was there for Bacon’s disastrous audition.

“They decide to do a show called Got Tu Go Disco, which is a Broadway show,” Bacon said, wincing at the wings. “There was a song called ‘I Love the Nightlife,’. . . so I come in with the sheet music, and I hand it to the piano player, and he starts to play it. It never occurred to me that the sheet music might not be in the key of the record. It was a disaster. It was way out of my range. . . to say that I didn’t get that part would be an understatement. I just completely shit the bed.”

That’s an excellent lesson for anyone looking for their big break. Know what key the song you’re singing is in, wear the right shoes, and don’t eat hot wings right before going on stage. We also can’t feel too bad for Bacon. Not only because of his career, but because Got Tu Go Disco (alternative name Gottu Go Disco) only lasted 5 days on Broadway.

In an another excellent episode of the webseries that’s 50% watching celebrities tear up, Bacon also discusses the cursing Shakespeare vibes of City on a Hill and explains why This Is Spinal Tap is a perfect movie.

13 simple, life-changing Googling tips you didn’t know you needed

Do you ever just stop and marvel at how much the internet has changed human existence? At no other time in history has the average person had access to so much knowledge. Yes, we use it for dumb things too, but anyone with an internet connection can learn anything they set their mind to, from languages to auto mechanics to music to rocket science. It’s mind-blowing.

This unlimited access to information is amazing, but it can also be overwhelming. If I Google “rocket science,” I get 190 million results in 0.7 seconds. If I actually had an interest in learning about rocket science—which I don’t—I wouldn’t even know where to begin.

I could narrow down those results with more specific search terms, of course. But that would barely be scratching the surface of Google’s search abilities. As Chris Hladczuk wrote on Twitter, “If you use it right, Google is the most powerful tool in the world. But the truth is most people suck at it.”

It’s true. Many of us have no idea how to actually utilize Google effectively to find the information we want or need. I use Google all the time and thought I was pretty good at it, but after reading Hladczuk’s thread of tips and researching more, I realized there are so many ways I could up my Google game to save myself some time and effort.

Here are 13 tips and tricks for better Googling that we can all use:

1. Make use of the one-click filters that Google already set up.

Google makes it easy to narrow down search results with pre-set filter categories that show up at the top of your search results. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it’s easy to gloss over them if you don’t know they’re there. If you just want news stories or just want images for your search topic, you’d click “News” or “Images” at the top of the search results page.

To further filter, click “Tools” on the right. Depending on what other filters you’re using you can sort by date (in News), type of document (in Books), duration or quality (in Videos), and so on. Just utilizing these built-in filtering tools will greatly enhance your Google search experience with very little effort.

2. Use the minus sign (-) to eliminate words you don’t want in your results.

Let’s say you want to research George Bush’s presidency but you want the first Bush, not George W. Bush. You could Google “George H.W. Bush,” but that’s not generally what he was referred to prior to his son running for president.

Using the hyphen, or minus sign, before a word or phrase you don’t want included in results will eliminate that word or phrase from the search. So Googling “George Bush -W.” tells Google to pull up results for George Bush, but without “W.” Voila! All senior Bush results.

3. Quotations marks (” “) give you exact phrase results.

Googling multiple words at once can give you a mixed bag of results. The search will include all of the words, but not necessarily in order. If you are looking for an exact phrase, let Google know that by putting it in quotation marks.

4. Use a colon (:) to search a specific website.

Let’s say you wanted to see all of Upworthy’s articles about dogs. Type in “dogs:upworthy.com” and Google will give you all of our pupworthy content. (Generally speaking, you should put in the .com or .org or whatever the extension is on the URL, but “dogs:upworthy” works, too.)

5. Looking for a specific file type? Tell Google with (filetype:).

Do you swear you saw a printable PDF of dad jokes, but can’t remember where you found it? A search for “dad jokes” gives you a gazillion results you’d have to wade through to find a PDF. But you can search just for PDFs by typing “bad dad jokes filetype:PDF” into your Google search bar.

6. Search for similar or synonymous terms with a tilde (~).

Say you wanted to find a Spanish teacher in your area. Searching “local Spanish ~teacher” would also bring up search results for Spanish tutors, instructors and so on. (Google does some of this intuitively, but there may be instances when results are too honed in on one word.)

7. Do a fill-in-the-blank search with an asterisk (*).

Want to know what percentage of Americans have been vaccinated for COVID-19? Want to know how many gorillas are left in the wild? A search for “* percent of Americans vaccinated for COVID” and “* gorillas left in the wild” will bring those exact numbers right to the top of your results.

8. Calculate a tip or set a timer in a jiffy.

Searching for “tip calculator” brings up a simple, handy tip calculator without having to click through to any website. Nifty.

And you can set a timer by typing “timer” and however many minutes you want into the search bar. The timer starts automatically and will beep when finished. (Just don’t close that browser window.) You can also pull up a stopwatch with a simple “stopwatch” search.

9. Track a package without having to go to the carrier’s website.

All you have to do is copy and paste any tracking number into the Google search bar. No need to go to USPS or UPS or FedEx websites first. Just straight to Google.

10. Track a flight without having to go to the airline’s website.

Just like the tracking number, simply enter your flight number (e.g., DL 275) into the Google search bar. Easy peasy.

11. Do quick definition checks and look up time and weather in different places.

Sometimes Google is more intuitive to use than we might assume. Want to look up what “obfuscation” means? No need to search for an online dictionary. Just type “define obfuscation” into the search bar. (You don’t even have to spell it right, as long as you’re close.) Wondering what the weather’s like where grandma lives? Search “weather Orlando” to get current conditions. Need to know if it’s too late to contact that friend overseas? Search “time Barcelona” to get the current local time.

12. Search for free-to-use images with Creative Commons licenses across multiple websites at once.

Finding photos that are free to use, either with or without attribution requirements, can be tedious. But it’s easy to find Creative Commons License photos on Google if you know what to click.

Type in your search term for whatever images you want (say “snuggly kittens”), then click Images, then Tools, then Usage Rights, then Creative Commons Licenses.

(Quick reference: Images > Tools > Usage Rights > Creative Commons Licenses)

When you click on an image, you can click “License details” and it will tell you which Creative Commons license applies to the photo so you know how to attribute it.

13. Reverse search images to see where they came from or where else they’ve been shared.

If you want to try to track down where an image originated, you can search using an image itself, either using the image URL or uploading it to images.google.com. Just click on the camera icon and either paste the URL or upload the image, and the search results will show you all the places the image lives on the internet.

Bonus: Just for fun, try typing “askew” into the Google search bar.

The folks behind the scenes at Google have a silly sense of humor, so you never quite know what you’re going to get when you use it. You can also put “play pacman” into the search and actually play a mini Pac-Man game. Who knew?

Google is an incredibly useful tool in far more ways than most of us use it, and hopefully these tips will help you utilize it to its full potential. Happy searching and three cheers for digital literacy!

Harry Styles heard his ‘first teacher’ was in the audience, so he stopped a show to find her

The impact teachers have on our lives lasts a lifetime. Even though most schoolteachers instruct countless children throughout their careers, they remember how the students affected their lives, too. A perfect example of this is the exchange between pop megastar Harry Styles and his first teacher from primary school on June 15.

Between songs at his concert at Emirates Old Trafford stadium in Manchester, England, Styles stopped the show to find someone in the audience. It was no easy task, there were 74,000 people at the show.

“I’m going to ask a favor from you because I’d like to try and find someone in the audience,” he said, according to CBS News. It was his “first-ever schoolteacher” Ann Vernon. The gig was a homecoming for Styles, who grew up in nearby Cheshire, and he was told that some of his former schoolteachers may be in attendance.

Styles scanned the massive crowd for Vernon until he saw someone he thought was her. Unfortunately, it was her colleague, Mrs. Bailey.

“How are you? I heard you’re retiring,” he called out to the person he thought was Vernon. “I’d just like to thank you for everything in those formative years. And yeah, thank you so much, it means a lot to me that you’re here tonight.”

“Can you imagine dealing with me when I was 4?” Styles joked. He then dedicated his next song, “Canyon Moon,” to his former teacher.

Even though Vernon wasn’t at the gig, she got Styles’ touching message. Bailey called her and shared a clip of the exchange. After the concert, Vernon appeared on “The Zoe Ball Breakfast Show” on BBC Radio 2 to talk about what it was like teaching young Styles.

“As a teacher, you remember all of the children that you’ve taught, all of them are amazing in their own way,” Vernon said. “Harry obviously has gone on to mega, mega things—everybody at Hermitage is just so, so proud of him.” She recalled that he was a “delight” and that he had “a cheeky sparkle in his eye, he was a little bit of a tinker some of the time but he was a character so that’s for sure, we all remember him.”

A big part of Styles’ appeal is that he’s a nice guy who will “take a walk on a Sunday through the afternoon” with you. Some might have thought that it’s just an image he’s trying to sell the world, but it’s pretty easy to believe it’s true after seeing him stop a show to salute one of his teachers.

He was also gracious to his audience whom he thanked for coming to a show near where he grew up.

“This is an absolute pleasure to be here at my home show, I cannot begin to tell you how much it means to me to play here tonight and all of you for coming,” he said, according to Yahoo News UK.

“Some of the happiest times of my entire life have been making these last couple of albums, and some of the happiest times of my life have been right around the corner from here. So it feels pretty perfect to me playing these songs to you here tonight,” he added.

The viral story of how Chewy helped console a pet owner after losing her dog is unforgettable

Many of us know Chewy as the online marketplace for all things pet goods. What you might not know is the extra care that the company provides to pet owners after the loss of a beloved fur baby. That is, until one woman’s story went viral on Twitter.

Anna Brose (@alcesanna) had to say goodbye to her sweet dog named Gus. To make an already tragic event worse, she had an unopened bag of dog food purchased from Chewy that would now go unused. Brose was so surprised by the company’s compassion and generosity that she felt compelled to share her experience online.

Her tweet read:

“I contacted @Chewy last week to see if I could return an unopened bag of my dog’s food after he died. They 1) gave me a full refund, 2) told me to donate the food to the shelter, and 3) had flowers delivered today with the gift note signed by the person I talked to??”

That’s right. A full refund, plus a heartfelt note and flowers. NBD.

Much to Brose’s surprise, she was not the only one on the receiving end of such kindness.

Pretty soon stories from other grieving pet parents came flooding in praising Chewy for going above and beyond during their time of mourning.

One person shared, “@Chewy did the same for me when we lost our sweet boy, Murphy Brown. I’d just ordered 2 cases of his special kidney diet food, and they arrived after he passed. But they gave a full refund and told us to just donate the food to a shelter. That act of kindness meant so much.”

A person who works at an animal shelter confirmed this is Chewy’s standard practice, saying, “We often have people reaching out to donate because Chewy told them to reach out to a local shelter. I can’t express what this means to shelter’s like mine. Truly a gift.”

Many reported that Chewy even sends hand painted pet portraits, like this one:

Can you imagine having a beautiful memento like this to cherish? Of course it doesn’t replace the pet that’s now gone, but man, what a great way to make such a painful transition a little more bearable. Customer service is great and all, but this is a wonderful example of businesses displaying humanity.

That kindness isn’t limited to times of grief, either. Chewy apparently sends birthday cards, and seems to often encourage customers to donate all kinds of unwanted items after giving a full refund.

“I bought 4 sling carriers from Chewy to try for my new rescue dog. Only used one. Was shocked when @Chewy told me to just donate the rest after my refund. Brought them to [a] local rescue dog group who were happy to take them,” wrote one person.

As a mother of two cats—and a regular Chewy customer—I was both shocked to realize the company did all this, not to mention touched. I wasn’t alone. People were floored.

As for Chewy—since Brose’s tweet went viral, the company did see it, and left their own response.

“It’s the least we could do, Anna. We hope these flowers will help to keep your spirits up.”

We don’t always picture corporations having a heart. But it is a possibility. Huge kudos to Chewy for providing pet owners true care…in more ways than one.

Chance The Rapper And Joey Bada$$ Reflect On ‘The Highs And The Lows’ In Their New Song

Chance The Rapper and Joey Bada$$ have been living up to their new track’s title as of late. Chance has been releasing a lot of music ahead of his forthcoming sophomore effort, experiencing a resurgence of sorts, while Joey had to break unfortunate news to his fans that his anticipated upcoming album 2000, originally set to release tomorrow (June 17), experienced a setback due to sample clearance. While dates for neither’s LPs are known, they decided to treat the fans with an early release of their collaborative single “The Highs And The Lows.”

In Chance’s typical typeform, the two spit for nearly four minutes over a soul sample-laden, low tempo beat. The Coloring Book artist discusses his mother, mimosas, and makes a nod to Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, mixing in his raspy singing vocals every so often. Joey ad-libs the chorus before his own verse where he discusses cutting his vices and being blinded by the outside noise. “The best things in life are on the opposite side of fear,” the New York rapper says.

For Chance, this continues the aforementioned momentum while “The Highs And The Lows” serves as an appetizer for the Joey Bada$$ faithful.

Key Glock Shares His Take On Future’s ‘712AM’ In His New Video

One of the gems within hip-hop is when an artist puts their own spin on a song that another rapper has already put out. Back in late April, Future released his ninth studio album I Never Liked You which kicks off with the high-energy “712AM” produced by Wheezy and TM88. Today, Key Glock decided he wanted to try his hand at the track with his latest video of the same name.

The Memphis rapper rides around in his yellow vehicle, following a similar cadence to Future’s but ensuring he doesn’t sound like a copycat. The video follows the 24-year-old as he sips from a styrofoam cup, makes a trip to the store, and lands at the studio with some of his crew because the raps can never stop, even while he’s rapping. It is braggadocious energy galore, and rightfully so.

For Key Glock, “712AM” follows his remix to Denzel Curry’s “Walkin” in early June. In March, he shared the deluxe version of 2021’s Yellow Tape 2, rounding the album out at 30 songs and no features. While there’s no mention of an upcoming project, Glock is keeping the momentum strong and showing his ability to excel at other people’s beats in addition to his own with the latest “712AM”

Check out the video for “712AM” above.

Patton Oswalt Catfishes His Son To Save Their Relationship In The ‘I Love My Dad’ Trailer

Patton Oswalt is versatile. He can play MODOK, narrate an adorable docuseries about penguins taking over a small town, and pretend to be a 20-something waitress named Becca so his son will talk to him. Hopefully there’s a filter for that. In the SXSW breakout I Love My Dad, Oswalt plays Chuck, whose son Franklin (writer/director/star James Morosini) blocks him on social media. With his only lifeline to his distant son cut off, Chuck invents Becca as a Hail Mary that works disturbingly well.

It’s basically She’s All That, but instead of a bet, it’s a dad flirting with his adult son.

Winner of the SXSW Grand Jury Award and Audience Award, I Love My Dad also stars YouTube star and Teen Vogue host Claudia Sulewski as the invented woman and Lil Rey Howery as Chuck’s anti-dick pic best friend. Based on a true story (seriously?), this is the feature film directing debut for Morosini, who has had roles in The Sex Lives of College Girls and American Horror Story.

If the opening gag of the trailer (Chuck furrowing his brow while thinking “sup?” means “soup”) is any indication, it’ll be on the gentler side of comedy instead of the gross out territory it could easily slide into. Also, “sup?” officially means “soup” now. Text accordingly.
