BTS Isn’t Actually Going On Hiatus, A Band Representative Clarifies

K-pop phenomenon BTS has been an unstoppable force in music, but sooner or later every moving object changes direction. As of yesterday (June 14), it sounded like the group could be temporarily splitting up to focus on their solo endeavors after Suga initiated a “hiatus” conversation that RM and Jimin then added to at their 2022 Festa dinner.

Now, per a representative, it appears BTS will carry on as members work on their solo material simultaneously. The rep told Pitchfork, “To be clear, they are not on hiatus but will take time to explore some solo projects at this time and remain active in various different formats.” Big Hit also reportedly said in a statement (via Bandwagon Asia), “BTS now starts a new chapter with new solo projects as well as group projects. Members will take this time to achieve personal growth through various new activities, and we expect it to further strengthen the foundation for the group’s long run as a team. Big Hit Music will actively support the artists.”

The group has been associated for over a decade and a few of them kept it very honest about where they currently stand despite the success. RM and Jimin spoke toward identity, with the latter even acknowledging there has been a “rough patch.” However, for now, it appears there is nothing to be concerned about.

These comments come just five days after the group released their three-disc anthology CD Proof. BTS has risen in prominence over the years, earning nine American Music Awards, 12 Billboard Music Awards, and two nominations both at the Grammys and BRIT Awards each. The group was the quickest to earn five No. 1 singles on the Billboard Global 200 and Hot 100 charts since Michael Jackson. The hard work has paid off, and now as they look toward filming Run BTS, they are opening themselves up to explore additional other paths.

Trump Jr. Asked Trump Supporters To Sign His Dad’s Birthday Card — But Only If They Paid For The Honor

Yesterday, June 14th, was Donald Trump’s 76th birthday. He doesn’t look a day over 75; it must be all that Diet Coke (not Diet Pepsi).

How did you celebrate the Big Ripoff, I mean, the Big Day? Maybe by looking at these glum photos of his inner circle from election night 2020, or watching Ivanka’s dead-eyed testimony against her father, or taking a “big massive dump.” Those are all good ideas, especially compared to paying for the honor of signing Trump’s birthday card.

Insider reports that “Donald Trump Jr. is offering his father’s supporters a chance to sign the former president’s ‘official’ birthday card — but only if they donate money to his fundraising committee. A link in the email allows the recipient to write a message to the former president, but potential well-wishers must first pledge at least $1.”

The email reads, “My father has done so much for this great Country, and I know it would mean so much to him to see YOUR NAME on his OFFICIAL Birthday Card,” along with options to donate from $25 to $2,500 to the Save America Joint Fundraising Committee. MAGA lovers can also pony up “Other,” as long as the amount isn’t lower than $1.

“This is President Trump’s ONLY Official Birthday Card. So make sure you sign THIS ONE and not the other fake ones out there… HURRY — there’s not much time left. I can only save your spot for 20 MINUTES,” the email reads.

I guess swindling his supporters out of $250 million wasn’t enough. Happy birthday!

Kate Bush Thinks The ‘Running Up That Hill’ Resurgence Is ‘So Exciting’

Kate Bush’s 1985 hit “Running Up That Hill” is currently relentless in its resurgence, thanks to Stranger Things. It’s such a big deal that Bush acknowledged it in a post on her website earlier this month. “Running Up That Hill has just gone to No 2 in the UK charts and No. 1 in Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Sweden…. How utterly brilliant!”

She’s back with more to say. In a newer post, she talks about the way the song has risen even higher, and she’s grateful to have it enjoyed by a new audience. Read it below.

It’s all so exciting! Since the last post, Running Up That Hill has gone to No 1 in Norway and Austria. This is such great news and we just heard today that it’s up from No 8 to No 4 in the US.
The track is being responded to in so many positive ways. I’ve never experienced anything quite like this before!
I just want to say a really big thank you to everyone in the US who has supported the song. It’s the first time I’ve had a top ten single over there and now it’s in the top 5!
Thank you so much again to the Duffer Brothers – because of their latest, extraordinary series of Stranger Things, the track is being discovered by a whole new audience.
Best wishes,
Kate

Enumclaw Announce Their Debut Album ‘Save The Baby’ And Unveil The Warm Single ‘Jimmy Neutron’

Tacoma, WA’s Enumclaw, known for calling themselves the “best band since Oasis,” released one of the best EPs of last year with the breezy Jimbo Demo. Its songs had addictive basslines and an inexplicable, seemingly effortless coolness, not unlike their influence Nirvana. Today, they’ve finally announced their debut full-length Save The Baby, arriving in October. The new single “Jimmy Neutron” is out now, and it’s a sunlit song that retains their candid charm with the deadpan of the casually heartbreaking refrain “I want to fall in love / But I don’t think I can have it / Every time I get close to you / I start to panic.”

“This song is about getting so close to love that you can almost taste it,” frontman Aramis Johnson said in a statement. “All the highs of being in love and how ridiculously unlike yourself it can make you act. All the day dreaming you do about what things could be and how they might go. There’s always a catch though and in this story as soon as you reach out to grab ‘love’ and have it in your hands you drop it.”

Deante Hitchcock Proves That He Also Despises His Ex In A Freestyle Over SZA’s ‘I Hate U’

One of the more popular R&B records from 2021 came from SZA with “I Hate U.” The song stood as her third release in a little over a year, a spike in activity for the singer who was quieter than expected after her 2017 debut Ctrl. In addition to the song breaking records on Apple Music, it’s also been remixed by a few artists, two of those being 6lack and Phabo. There’s a new entry to that list and it comes from Atlanta rapper Deante Hitchcock who offers his take on the track for the latest entry in his New Atlanta Tuesdays freestyle series.

The Atlanta native released the freestyle with an accompanying video that sees him walk up to his former lover’s home with a boombox in hand. As the song’s instrumental begins, Hitchcock unloads a freestyle that details his struggle of watching his ex move on to someone new. In the end, he leaves her with a very salty and spiteful message: “You hate me but I still love you / But if anyone asks I hate you too b*tch / I hate you too b*tch / Yes it’s true, yes it’s true, yeah it’s true b*tch.”

Hitchcock’s new freestyle arrives after he released “Alone,” “Callin‘” with Big KRIT and Westside Boogie, and “All My Children” as singles off his upcoming album, one that would be his first full-length effort since 2020’s Better.

People Had To Explain To Patricia Heaton What ‘Lightyear’ Is About After She Said Pixar ‘Castrated’ The Character By Not Casting Tim Allen

For a Pixar film, Lightyear has been weirdly controversial. The main sticking point, at least for retrograde conservatives and certain nations, is that it features a same-sex kiss between two moms, though its vocal star, Chris Evans, is proud Disney stuck to its guns. Speaking of Evans, his casting also set off a mild firestorm. When the film was first announced, people were angry that it didn’t bring back Tim Allen, who voiced him in the Toy Story films — at least until they learned it was about the astronaut who inspired the character. But it appears one prominent entertainer didn’t get that memo.

Patricia Heaton, best known as Debra Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, came to the defense of another ‘90s family sitcom star, charging that Disney did Tim Allen dirty. “Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?”

It wasn’t just that Heaton didn’t seem to know that this was technically a different Buzz Lightyear. It was that she said the re-casting “castrated” the original character, whom Allen voiced starting in the original 1995 Toy Story and as recently as 2019’s Toy Story 4. Her mentions were soon filled with people explaining the (admittedly kind of laborious) difference between the Toy Story Buzz and the Lightyear Buzz. (Though unremarked-upon is that maybe Allen wouldn’t want to be in another children’s movie anyway because he “hates” kids.)

Eventually Heaton corrected herself, but still stood her ground, arguing that he reason the character became so beloved is because of what @ofctimallen created. Why remove the one element that mak”tes us want to see it?” She tagged it “#stupidHollywooddecisions”

Allen has yet to weigh in on the matter, though that’s perhaps because he’s busy making creaky (and vaguely anti-“woke”) jokes.

Lightyear hits theaters on June 17.

‘The Daily Show’ Charts Rudy Giuliani’s Sketchy Rise And Boozy Fall In A New Mini-‘Dailyshowography’

Things haven’t been good for Rudy Giuliani in a long time. In fact, they keep getting worse. Not long after his disastrous surprise appearance on The Masked Singer, the fallen former “America’s Mayor” has come up again thanks to the Jan. 6 hearing, where people reminded the public that he was reportedly three sheets to the wind on Election Night, giving then-client Donald Trump some garbage advice. (He listened, of course.)

Now this. On Tuedsay night’s episode, The Daily Show tackled Rudy’s truly surreal life and career in their new “Dailyshowography,” which has previously covered the likes of Lindsey Graham, Ted Cruz, Vladimir Putin, and more. It starts with his birth to an alleged mob enforcer who did time in Sing Sing, shows his early aspirations towards priesthood (“Giuliani almost became a man of the cloth, instead of a man of sweaty handkerchiefs,” narrator Desi Lydic says over shots of him mopping his forehead), and eventually marrying his childhood sweetheart: his second cousin. At one point George H.W. Bush publicly mangles his surname.

It shows Giuliani moving through the Reagan administration en route to being the mayor of New York City, which he only nabbed after coming after the city’s first Black mayor, David Dinkins — and after helping foment the 1992 City Hall riot comprised of off-duty NYPD officers. (Lydic remarks that “getting a crowd to storm a government building would be good practice for him,” cutting to images from Jan. 6).

Once in office, Giuliani cleaned up the dirty town using “some of the most iconic anti-crime tactics of the time, like stop and frisk, broken windows policing, sexual assault with a broom handle, and shooting an innocent guy so many times Bruce Springsteen wrote a song about it.” (That would be “American Skin (41 Shots).”)

His big break is his calm leadership after the September 11 attacks, but even that didn’t help his presidential aspirations leading up to the 2008 election. He eventually gloms onto Donald Trump, seen in a jokey video from the ’90s sexually harassing a cross-dressing Rudy, who gives him a big slap. Eventually Giuliani would burn his reputation to the ground for Trump, who repaid the favor by leaving him high and dry.

Eventually they conclude that Giuliani is always “standing tall, through 9/11 or a blood alcohol of 9.11.”

You can watch the Giuliani “Dailyshowography” in the video above.

Car Seat Headrest Call Their Music ‘Furry Adjacent’: ‘It Was For That Community Of People’

Car Seat Headrest just recently finished their tour with Bartees Strange. The Brooklyn Steel show in April had a lot of people talking—not because of their music or anything, but the fact that frontman Will Toledo took the stage in a furry suit.

In a new interview with Brooklyn Magazine, the band talked about their relationship to the furry community. The article immediately opens with a quote from Toledo that reads: “I wanted more furries in the crowd.” He continued, “It was very impromptu. My friend tried finding someone else to wear the suit but he couldn’t find anybody. So at the last minute, I asked him to bring it and I wore as much of it as I could.”

Drummer Andrew Katz added: “A lot of Car Seat’s music is furry adjacent because, when Will started, it was for that community of people. So obviously a lot of the fans are furries and the rest know he’s a furry.”

“[Brooklyn Steel] was a good show because it was the only time I wore Mortis,” Toledo said. “The costume has been sitting with a friend since I went to a furry convention in February. I haven’t been able to transport the suit back because I’ve been traveling all over.”
